Stopped here on the late night for a burger since they are one of few spots either food 24/7. I read through plenty of the reviews so I had mixed expectations. First, the breakfast burger was spot on. Delicious. It's a thick patty, grilled fresh. They come one temperature. I'm a medium gal and this was well done, but it wasn't lacking. Burger was tender, not tough or dry. The toppings were perfectly balanced. I added cheese, which I'm kinda shocked it didn't come with. Cost me $1.49 which is ridiculous, but I didn't ask ahead of time so it is what it is. The grill is right behind the bar top, so you can see the cook as he prepares the food. He is good at his job. The neatness and attention to detail as he single handily made every order was all skill. My burger was excellent and worth the wait. Cause you will wait. There was only one person taking orders and running the food. He was very observant, though he seemed to avoid eye contact so you wouldn't question how long it's going to take to be acknowledged. But, soon as he took care of one table, he went to the next table in "queue" -- and was overall pleasant enough. It's Christmas and you are a one man team, I'd extend some grace. I did see two tables get up and leave because of the slow service and that's unfortunate all around cause the food is fresh (as in made to order) and good. Calling it a "greasy spoon" is not how I'd describe it cause it's not greasy in my opinion. Prices were mostly fair though after tip I spent $21...and some change...on one burger. It is what it is. Three stars because it's 24/7, made to order, and the overall best option if you want diner food. But the service can use improvement. You have a reputation that's promoted enough to where you should want to have someone else on staff that can help when business is busy. Every negative review on service I can see having took place. So for there to be no improvement is a turn off. read more

A hidden little gem down on Bourbon Street that you shouldn't sleep on. Woke up early and decide to wander down Bourbon Street and found this little gem. Now it's really a hole in the wall, but if you know about good eats, you should know that most come out of places like this. You are required a negative COVID test or show your immunization card and wear a face mask going in (city regulation as most places at the moment). Also they don't accept cash. We came in and sat at a table and was greeted by our waiter. We ordered our food and drank some decent coffee. Don't get it confused, it was good and they let you know that you get ONE free refill but for $1.50 for coffee, that should be enough. We ordered the pork chop plate that came with hash browns, eggs, and toast and also a bowl of grits to share. Everything was good. The pork chop was a tab bit over cooked but I think that's because the table over had just complained that they felt their pork chop was undercooked. A nice little no-frills spot right off of Bourbon St. While Clover Grill probably is not mentioned in many of the major tour guides and top restaurant lists, you will get your serving of greasy and oh so delicious food to soak up the booze from Bourbon-induced day and/or night drinks. During my visit, I went with the Daily Breakfast (two over-easy eggs, sausage, and hash browns). Was it the best breakfast that I had? Nope! But did the breakfast do its job. YUP! At first, I thought the waiter/server had a bit of an attitude and was overly sassy. However, my opinion quickly changed within 5 minutes of seeing what he had to go through. Having to "babysit" many of the drunk folks (around 3 am), I will say that the server had the patience of Job. I definitely would have not have lasted more than 15 minutes into working a shift at Clover. A couple of things that one should be aware of: 1. Clover is a no-cash establishment. 2. Let me preface this by saying that the Clover Grill is NOT a 4-star restaurant. Not by any stretch of the imagination. The OG greasy spoon, diner ambiance probably looks exactly like it did in 1975... or 1955. Surly, but efficient service from some of the neighborhood's most colorful servers, who don't take themselves... or you, too seriously. But they do have a damned good burger, with fresh toppings on an awesome bun, with great fries or tater tots, and the only full breakfast you'll find in the Quarter at 3 or 4am. We've all needed that at one time or another. After walking by hundreds of times on my way to the trendier, more expensive dining options in the FQ, I'm glad that I finally gave CG a chance to impress me, and they did! read more

Wow..I have heard about this place for years and I have been to New Orleans a few times and never had the chance to eat here because it was crowded and the spot has limited capacity! Well all that changed on this trip and it made me and my friends delighted! One of my peeps had a case of the Bourbon St Blues! She was trying to eat & drink her way through the area and was feeling a need to soak up some of the booze! As we were taking our midnight stroll...I said I know a place..let's stop through...we got a table (not an easy feat) and proceeded to order the burgers..tater tots and lots of water! While waiting ...you can't help but notice the cast of characters that inhabit this cozy burger joint..staff included! I loved the energy...although chaotic at times...it's just a backdrop to the great food being served here! During some of the chaos..the friend who needed the food the most ..had to wait the longest because the order was misplaced? Can't go wrong with a classic. This is a charming dive/diner in the heart of the French Quarter that's almost a hundred years old, and the food is solid, greasy-spoon dishes that taste great. It's a very small place and open 24/7. If you get the chance, or dining solo, sit by the counter, sit by the counter, it feels a little more authentic, plus you can watch alal the cooking action, if you;re right in front of the grill. What an experience. Now walking in here, there was not a seat open. To be honest, I didn't have a lot of hope to liking this spot as this was in a "touristy" area -Bourbon Street and I didn't choose this spot for breakfast, my better half got to pick. Walk in and sit at the bar and our server was hilarious. He was real and told us about his long night out and what he was doing to be getting through the day. I first thought it might be a roller coaster experience through his up and down night but he was a rockstar. He was running this spot, owning this joint, filling drinks, taking orders and most importantly keeping all of us and the juke box full to maintain some upbeat jams for us all. This was a traditional "greasy spoon."!The perfect hangover meal. Nothing weird or experimental with the food just good breakfast. Through sitting at the bar I got to watch the cook meticulously manage each order. He was a professional with so much consistency. Everything that went to plates looked phenomenal. He even told us some secrets to cooking on the griddle when we asked! Never have I ever seen such fluffy eggs. I ordered the breakfast burger and needed help to finish. It was huge. The tots were perfectly golden brown and pillowy inside. The burger was good, egg and bacon cooked perfect. I would order this in a second, again. My boyfriend ordered the traditional omelet with bacon and cheese. Good amount of cheese/bacon ratio. Hash browns were cooked to perfection. Go with an empty bladder and try to skip the restroom. Had burgers here on 8/20, the week before Hurricane Ida hit with my wife. They were delicious and the server was really nice & friendly. We had a local drunk try to come in and got rejected so he then tried to sleep on their doorway so he was told to GTFO. COVID REVIEW: if youre not looking for simple and delicious food, keep it movin! Clover Grill is right to the point and makes their dishes with a lot of butter. This might sound gross, but the eggs were fluffy and buttery! I call that perfection! The omelet was fluffy, and huge, with cheddar was melted just right. The homefries are prepackaged, but theyre grilled just right. I hate when homefries and hashbrowns are raw, but not here. There's a nice crunch, and of course, the flavor of the chargrill comes through. The grits were okay, but need some help. We asked for cheesy grits, but there was just 1 slice of cheddar at the bottom. Not exactly my idea of cheesy grits, but it was okay. My meal came with a side of toast, its toasted perfectly and of course - even buttered for ya! Everything in here is priced very cheeply, and the servers are very friendly. That this place is open 24 hours a day is the only positive... if your goal is to have bad food and have the most horrible service this is your place. We came during the day and tried again at night to see if the night crew had better service, we were asked to leave because they do not want to sell to-go orders at night. Completely ridiculous. The food just ok. When we got to eat here during the day the turkey club is filled with processed horrible looking meat. The employees do not wash their hands often. If you ask for anything like crispy hash-browns the response is, "They come out how they come out." Others walked in and waited for a few minutes and the server got attitude because they politely called him over. Along with the horrible food and the horrible service they do not accept cash and the card tip is preloaded for 25% 30% and 35%. It's crazy to preload that and give worthless service. Made fresh to order, the burger patty itself had a great taste and the tots were perfectly crispy and some of the best I've ever had. And man it was a delicious, all beef burger with bacon and I barely can get it all down. Great music, awesome and quirky waitstaff that will make sure you have a good time while you're waiting. My parents were in town to visit for Mardi Gras last year from Ohio and stumbled upon this gem on a stroll through the quarters. I've been here 9 years and have only rode pass this place. They were in town again for a cruise and she had me tag along and man I've been missing out. I loved every bit of the hustle and bustle and the simplicity of the menu and food. As a cook in this city basic is typically better and this is perfection. Their 50s style setup has been part of the initial charm, but their burgers and breakfast options have been the real sell all along. Naturally, it's not all drunkards looking to soak up the late night booze, it is to a lesser extent, also tourists who are avoiding their hotel breakfast. Like many old establishments in the area, it's cramped and the ventilation is not the best. Come with a friend at best and prepare to indulge on some greasy spoon classics. As a breakfast fan, I give it a thumbs up. I appreciate that they cook the eggs to perfection practically every time. The sunny side up and over easy crowd will be sure to love their egg-cellent egg-secution. (#1) I also love that they're served over hash browns, which are the golden standard (#2) in my morning meals. Their burgers are their proudest product. So proud that they often will advertise the fact they use a hubcap to do the grilling (I haven't noticed anything). I've had some pretty solid burgers here, but nothing that I can distinctly remember as being one of the best in the city. When in doubt, go medium rare or less. The breakfast burger I've enjoyed occasionally and the heart attack of a sandwich, the double meat is no joke. I'm pretty certain at one point it was cash only here but last year I noticed they have a "No Cash" sign now. You ever wanted a real diner meal that gave you a real urge to try it. If not than this is the spot. You better make sure u have a debit/credit card because thats the only form of payment. The staff was very friendly and the hostess always present to help. When you are inside it's a little room so you get that small diner feel. I had a classic cheeseburger but it was very good with a side of fries. The burger was cooked well done with a slice of cheddar cheese. It was so tender and juicy. I can vouch and say this is a real deal diner. If u want the atmosphere of the diner I think you will have that experience here. read more
