My friend and I met up at the Coach Grill in Wayland for dinner recently. The last time I dined here for dinner was 20 years ago before seeing a play just 1000 feet away. When we arrived, we were promptly in a comfortable booth with plexiglass dividers on each side. We tried to scan the QR code for paperless menus, but the waiter gave us paper menus upon request. We were given ice waters and fresh baked chewy breads and butter as we reviewed the menu. The raisin bread was my favorite. We perused the menu and the steak choices (a la carte) sounded great, but we both decided to order seafood choices instead which included accompaniments. I ordered the Pan Seared Sea Bass ($39) served with mashed potatoes, garlic shrimp, heirloom tomatoes and my friend ordered the Chargrilled Salmon Fillet ($34) substituting asparagus for mashed potatoes. Our entrees arrived in 20 minutes after ordering. Both entrees were very tasty with great flavors. Both of us finished up our dinners and we were both full and passed on the offer for dessert. The dinner check for 2 with tax before tip was $78.11. My friend used up some of her gift card on this dinner. Overall, the food here was excellent and the service was prompt and efficient. Came here with a party of 10 for my mom's 80th birthday yesterday. The service was exceptional and our server, Sam C., was friendly, attentive, and super helpful with recommendations. The food was well prepared and presented and delicious and the wine list had an extensive selection by the glass. For appetizers, I highly recommend the deviled eggs and the roasted bone marrow, and for entrees the Beef Wellington, the ribeye, and the steak frites were all standouts. They brought us a selection of three different desserts for my mom's birthday and they did not last long. Finally, a shoutout to the GM for coming over to introduce himself and to the hostess for her patience and help with the family photo shoot. Great job, Coach Grill! I loved this place. The service was amazing. All my family was happy and satisfied with the food and service. I would recommend making a reservation before going there. This place is pricey but it is worth it. We tried Calamari Milano, two steaks, and Chicken Piccata. And for dessert Vanilla Crème Brûlée. This was the most delicious dessert I ever tried. Exceptional. That one word best describes my experience this past Saturday evening. I have been dining at Coach for the past 7 years and I feel through the change of hands and the ups and downs of covid, I think they finally have mastered every area of this place. The front of the house employees are great. Quick & friendly acknowledgement of your presence and they swiftly want to help you get to where you want to be and happy. For me, I love to dine at the bar. I ordered the 8oz filet done medium well and it was amazing. My boyfriend ordered the special for the evening, beef strogenoff and he enjoyed every bite. One important mention., I like that they provide great wines at great prices without overexaggerating the markups for a glass. That's a bonus. We have been Coach Grill fans for 20 years. For any special occasion it is our go to place. However, at a recent visit the menu is more expensive, appears changed and no more Coach style option, everything being a la carte. Our bill was really substantial with our usual choices (it being a special occasion). Food quality still seemed good. I am afraid they have managed to price themselves out of my market. This was our first meal (6/3/21) back inside a restaurant since before COVID-19. It was quiet at first (we sat down around 5:15pm) and then got louder in the room later. We had steaks, Coach-style smashed fingerling potatoes, and sautéed mushrooms. We also enjoyed maple old fashioned cocktails and an espresso martini (without bailey's), both of which were delicious. Our server, Madison was great! More recently, we dined in the outdoor tent on the most beautiful summer evening (7/9/22). Everything was wonderful! We each had a filet mignon and a half-salad (1 coach salad, 2 special apple salads, both were very big). We shared the crab cake appetizer, mashed potatoes, asparagus, and mushrooms. One of the bartenders loudly made many of the following statements to her coworkers last night while behind the bar and near patrons: "We're short staffed. They're going to have to deal with it!". Well, people who are sick call out sick. I'd honestly prefer that restaurant staff who are sick take a sick day and not prepare or handle food or drinks when sick. "It's Saturday night! No one gets a break!". Really? So despite MA DOL regulations regarding breaks for restaurants, the Coach Grill bar is immune to such regulations because it's a Saturday night? Do yourself a favor. Coach grill has been a staple in the area for a long time. In the past I have always enjoyed it & considered it Boston quality food but in the suburbs. Although in the last few years they really have changed. The food quality is extremely hit or miss. Sometimes the steak is perfect, and others they completely miss. Either way over cook or way under cook. The ambiance is always the same, which is nice. The service is also hit or miss. They have some incredible servers (Ask for Alex) and they have some really rude ones. So it's a gamble every time you go. Prices also now reflect the city steakhouses, so you are better off going to one of those instead. Much higher quality meal/service. read more

We have been going to Coach Grill for 25 years, and for reasons unclear to everyone, they chose to revamp an excellent menu and ruin it in the process. They ignored the adage "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." Instead of an incremental change followed by feedback, they chose to change everything at once. Of course, they also used the opportunity to hike prices to the point where value is non-existent. $150 for a seafood tower; $26 for shrimp cocktail appetizer; $55 for a ribeye; $12 for a baked potato. If the food were better because of the price hike it might be tolerable, but this was the worst meal we have had in 25 years. What was once a delicious pork chop now has a dry tasteless apple demi-glaze. My mother-in-law choked on her grilled salmon because it was so dry. The "special of day" fra diavolo was bland and fishy (it shouldn't be). The new braised short ribs was extremely dry because they barely put any sauce on it. Even the ketchup stunk. They changed from what tasted like Heinz to one that is not edible. Trying to alienate all their customers at once, they also removed favorites like Crab Louie and moved reasonably priced, delicious entrees like chicken piccata to a one-day-per-week special. Rumor has is it that they will soon revamp their brunch menu. We won't be returning for dinner, and if they hike prices proportionally on brunch and remove more favorites, that will be the end of a great 25 year run for our family at Coach Grill. read more

We had a party of five people and we ordered 4 dishes of steak. The portion is good but the steak is all overly cooked. We ordered one sea bass which is a perfect dish. We were very mad with the manager. We came on Dec 3 during lunch time and we ordered a bottle of Rose. On the menu it says 2021 but one the bottle it is 2022 The wine did taste very good, and it's too sour and too sweet. We talked to the manager but his altitude was very bad and didn't want to explain and made me feel we wanted to take some advantage.He told us that's what it should be he cant do anything about it with very rude attitude.The business of the restaurant is not as good as before, when we were there there is 75% empty seats. I think it probably has something to do with this manger. I feel sorry for the restaurant. We are local residents from Weston Wayland Sudbury . We are not sure we want to come back again. Everything went very well at Coach Grill. I considered this area of MA a culinary wasteland but this restaurant deserves all the stars. The ambiance is calm and relaxing but not funereal. The service is impeccable and friendly. The food is fabulous! All of our dishes were great (especially the crab cake). We went to Coach Grill for the first time with friends who rave about the place. I ordered salmon and asparagus. I received, literally salmon and asparagus, dumped on a plate with no great skill in plating. The food: as unimaginative as the plating. The salmon was pan-seared and overcooked, dry and leathery. The asparagus was overcooked, overly crunchy, though because it was grilled it has a nice charred flavor, terrible texture because of the overlook. My friends and wife all enjoyed their meal, so I would say avoid salmon and asparagus at Coach Grill. Not worth what I paid. By chance, we met other friends and I had salmon and lemon couscous at Tavern in the Square in Littleton. A much better meal. Go there instead! Coach Grill is not worth its high prices. read more

While trying to squeeze between our table and the couple sitting 18" from us, our wait staff person accidentally knocked a water glass to the floor. Broken glass everywhere. Ordered a drink that came in a tall glass with 2 stirrer straws that reached only half way up the glass ‍Caesar salad mediocre. My filet arrived over cooked. With the wrong side. Husband served shell-in lobster tail without lobster utensils. My bread pudding was bland, dry and way overheated. Dining experience not up to the Coach Grill standards of past years. We had dinner here for my sisters birthday. The service is amazing!! We Loved our waitress Jessica. We all had onion soup which was delicious. Drinks: Bloody Mary's & Raspberry Beret, both were good. For appetizers we got fried calamari, lump crabmeat, the coach salad & the iceberg wedge salad, everything was good. For dinner: lamb shank-very good fall off the bone; prime rib was perfect plenty to take home; Beef Wellington- wasn't medium, but still good & the duck special- the skin was very salty, but it was cooked perfectly. For sides we got the sautéed mushrooms-plain, simple, good and the corn pudding side is good if you like sweet, which we do. Desserts: banana pudding, bread pudding with butterscotch and a crème brûlée. They brought out a chocolate coffee ice cream slice with a candle in it for her bday, it was good. Have patronized Coach Grill several times over the years and always had excellent meals. Decided to come back again after a long hiatus for a birthday dinner celebration. Entirely revamped and elevated menu. Burger no longer on the menu but still available. Petit filet cooked perfectly. Bone in Rib Eye delicious. Dessert of chocolate cake wonderful and the butterscotch bread pudding (our servers recommendation) incredible. Mackenzie was our server. I will start by saying that the food was delicious. But when your check is higher than the per capital income of Zimbabwe, then my standards go up and I'm going to nit pick. When you pay a premium for your food, the premium should be for service. Service needs improvement. It was a while after we were seated until we saw our waitress. So when she showed up, we were ready to order both food and wine. Unfortunately our waitress put the food order in right away and we had bread and salad long before wine. Then there was the wine. Where was it? Nobody could find the wine. We were asked to select something else. But before we could get another wine list, some one found the wine. Really? How do you not know where your wine is? Amateur hour behind the bar. In the meantime, half our bread and half our salad was consumed. The bread. 4 pieces of bread. But only 3 pats of butter. Hmmmm. Who knows how to count? The salad. Supposed to come with warm goat cheese. But my goat cheese was not warm. It was kinda cold. Our waitress offered to bring a new warm piece. So I got a little saucer with a warm piece of goat cheese. To add to my half eaten salad. My petite filet was cooked to a perfect medium well. Fortunately they did not butterfly it. The chef can cook a steak. Even though it was medium well, it melted in my mouth. High point of my meal. I don't even attempt to cook filet at home since it's hard to keep it tender. My man says the prime rib was perfection. Nicely on the rarer side of medium rare and melted in his mouth, fat and all, no gristle at all. Dessert was ok. The mascarpone cheesecake was good. But would have benefited from having a bit more berry coulis. I was literally scraping sauce off the plate. Cheesecake alone was a bit dry. At the end, when the check came, their was a mysterious charge for a scotch and soda on the check. You should not be waiting tables if you can't keep your checks and customers straight. We kinda felt like jerks asking for it to be removed. The waitresses apology was far from sincere. My man tends to bring me takeout from here when he attends his business dinners. I'll stick to the takeout from now on. Let him endure the subpar service while on expense account. Bottom line - if the check had been $150/180t+t - this would have been a 4 Star review. read more

The food is very good but do not fall for their promotions of buying a gift card and then getting a bonus card for free. We were there for dinner around the holidays and the waiter pitched the deal of buying a gift card and then getting a bonus card. Not once did he say the bonus card had to be used by a certain date. Pulled it out today because we were planning of going this weekend and it expired 3/31/24. The manage was not helpful and just said I should have read the back of the card. We grabbed an anniversary dinner from Coach Grill enroute to the Wayside Inn, Sudbury. The steak was excellent, mashed potatoes were basic but tasty, scallops were outstanding, risotto was very unrisotto like but so delicious we didn't mind. The salad, with pecans was excellent, fine quality, pecans perfectly glazed, just wish it also had beets or squash in it, particularly now, squash season. Seared Tuna was not perfect, but we could see it would have likely been had we been willing to dine in. Accommodated many crazy celiac needs without balking which almost earns them 5*. My main disappointment was being served a lukewarm entree that sat too long either waiting to be picked up or for the 5 other entrees to be ready. Tepid haddock is not a treat. Ate here last night while visiting the kids/grandkids. Outside seating was requested. When we showed up, they took us right past 2 tables for 6 (4 adults + 2 kids) and seated us at the 3d table that was smack in the sunlight on a warm late afternoon. I would have said something, but it was not my place as a guest. Wait staff was just too chatty and nothing seemed to happen on time. Food was fine, but not a really pleasant experience. I never write reviews but felt it was necessary due to last night's experience. My family and I have been going to the Coach Grill for over 20 Years and always loved it, until last night. Went for my Birthday since my family knows it was always one of my favorite places to dine. We had a 5pm reservation so it was early not a lot of people in the restaurant yet. First off, the hostess a young grill she was very pleasant but had a shirt on that was not appropriate for the restaurant. No back, and her bra was showing. The assistant manager had a suit jacket on that was too small and his belly was busting out from under the button. First impression is important and when dinning in a restaurant like the Coach Grill, you would expect a dress code for their staff. our waitress was very pleasant, she took our order. Our meals came out and if you have dinned there you know that the waiter or waitress comes to the table when your steaks come out to have you cut into them to make sure they are cooked the way you asked. No waitress came by to check on us to or to ask us if our food was ok. Next several of us had empty water glasses and we kept trying to get someone's attention to refill. No luck. Finally, the assistant manager came over to see how everything was since we had not seen our waitress again. I told him terrble and explained to him that several of us have empty water glasses and cannot seem to get anyont to refill them. Second, we have not seen our waitress to even check on us to see if our food was correct and if we needed anything else. He did apologize for this and offered dessert to the table on the house. we thanked him and ordered dessert. when the bill came guess what out of 6 desserts only one was free and of course the least expensive one. I guess the manager would not comp all desserts. We paid our bill which as you can imagine was over $500 and left. We will not be going back so sad that such a great restaurant has gone downhill. Great brunch! It's nice as you have the choice to order off the regular menu or the brunch menu. I had the filet mignon benedict which was tasty, although one of the eggs was overcooked. Bloody Mary was just the right amount of spice. Another in our party had the crab crusted haddock (had the crab cake taste) and a nice sauce. The rib-eye was beautifully coooked with great flavor.
