The food rarely disappoints! The mussels are always a great option (the Thai curry and Provençal are my favorites). Unfortunately, I've noticed that the service has been lacking. I visited with a small group of friends last night. We put in our appetizer order when we were seated and waited over an hour for it to arrive. Drinks were not refilled and every dinner plate came out at very different times. The terrible service ruined a good meal. I still recommend Coco but be mindful of slow, inattentive service! read more

I've eaten at Coco more times than I can count, mainly for the wonderful ambiance and very decent food. My last two visits there, however, were a disappointment. Both times I ordered my standard favorite - mussels provencal - and both times many of the mussels were gritty, undercooked and bad tasting, After trying a dozen or so from various places in the very generous pot, I had spit out or rejected so many that I lost my appetite and gave up. The broth was a disappointment too - lukewarm and tasteless. Thank goodness for the accompanying crunchy rosemary frites, the delicious arugula salad app, and an excellent glass of Malbec rose. read more

A restaurant that boasts fresh ingredients should not precook its "pan-seared" duck breast and trout. When ordering the duck special, I learned that I could not request medium rare because the duck breast was precooked. I then asked about the trout - same thing. In the end, I ordered mussels which were, unfortunately, over cooked- as measured by almost all having fallen out of their shells and ending up shriveled at the bottom of the dish. The rosemary frites were delicious. However, this is just not enough. Such a disappointment. read more

I have been to Coco for dinner four times now, and all I can say is it never disappoints! The atmosphere is intimate and comfortable, the food is inventive and delicious, and the service is great. I think maybe one time there was a lag in taking our drink order, but if that is the biggest complaint, they are doing well. They also do a Tuesday/Wednesday three course for $25 deal which is excellent. For the quality of food they put out, this is an amazing deal. We have now eaten here 2xs and both with great service! I'm plant-based and gluten free and had an awesome beet salad (without the cheve) and they brought me balsamic vinegar on the side. They have an appetizer of spiralized zucchini which I made into my entrée with extra spinach and white beans. Perfect! Unlike many other places, they were SUPER easy and accommodating. We had a birthday celebration last week for 16 persons. The restaurant assigned 2 waiters to our table which was wonderful. They were very friendly and attentive. I've eaten there many times, but not with such a large party. I wanted everything to be perfect and it was. We ordered an assortment of appetizers which were delicious. Everyone ordered whatever they wanted and I was wondering if we would all be eating at the same time. No worry-all the items came out at the same time. The restaurant is charming and small-very intimate. Love it. Since we were a little noisier than normal, we sent drinks to all nearby tables. Also, we were not rushed at all, which has happened at other restaurants. Forgot the mention that all entrees were delicious. Everyone of our guests were pleased. They also brought out the cake, sang and then cut servings. read more

I've been going to CoCo's on and off for a few years now and have to say each time the experience has gotten progressively worst. I won't be returning or recommending the place going forward unfortunately. Last evenings visit at a table in the bar area was horrendous. Horrible service, litterally having to go get someone for anything we needed, including the check. There was apparently little to no staff available to do this, something I would not expect on a Saturday night. Add in the feeling that someone kept opening the back door to cool the place, which made us freeze several times because it was left open, and the experience was a complete bust. This place was great at one time, but no longer in my book. read more

I was very excited to see a French restaurant in Buffalo. I went for s Christmas dinner with friends and found the decor and look of the restaurant just like sometime you would see in France. The menu isn't really French but the food was amazing. The service was not that great but I didn't let it ruin my night. Great food and service. I had the Portuguese Mussels, which were plentiful and delicious. I had three teen girls with me. We had a caprese Pizza for two of them and the other had a Caesar salad with chicken. Both were very generous portions. I had a glass of wine and total bill before tip was $60 which o found to be very reasonable for the food and service we received. Service was excellent. Attentive but not annoyingly so. Relaxed atmosphere but quick and efficient service. Definitely would go back! read more

As a fan Le Metro's Williamsville location, I decided to try its city outpost out with a friend for dinner on a Friday evening. The interior, although large, evokes a romantic french bistro vibe. I would suggest they turn the lights up a bit, as it is too dark to see the menu! I found myself reading by candlelight, trying to avoid lighting the menu on fire. Fire hazards aside, the food was very tasty! The menu features many versions of gourmet pizza, mussels, pho, and some simple appetizers like salads and dips. Our meal started with a complementary white bean and rosemary dip...it was dynamite! We ordered mussels and a mushroom truffle pizza to share, and both were delicious. The mussels were well-cooked and seasoned in a wine, tomato, and fennel broth, and the pizza was crispy and earthy in flavor. The mussels also came with a side of perfectly crisp fries to soak up all the broth. The portions were overwhelmingly large, but who's complaining about leftover pizza! ? I will definitely be back to explore the bakery, and lunch menu, as both looked delicious. It seems as if restaurants come and go in this lofty main street space, I hope Coco is here to stay. read more

I thought Coco was amazing! finally a restaurant with a european flare in Buffalo NY. i loved the atmosphere, beautiful art painted on the walls, very elegant lounge area, lit candles everywhere. great place for conversation no tv's all over the place like every other restaurant . i really enjoyed their selection of mussels, i had the portuguese. my partner had the pasta carbonara was tasty, and we shared the scallop tempura appetizer! this place is my new favorite restaurant! Oh and our waitress/ bartender was lovely great personality with full knowledge of dishes, wine selection, and a very original martini list that i think she may i have invented herself. read more

Had a reservation last night and we were seated 25-30 late. No offer was made to enjoy a complimentary drink. Nothing but some attitude from the hostess. The hostess, a young woman with longer hair wearing a striped outfit of some sort, was dismissive and borderline perturbed when we asked to be seated at a 4 top rather than the long communal table that she showed us too. This table easily seats 10-12 people and the lighting glares down on you. Her attitude and facial expression made it known she was not happy. Food arrived in a timely fashion and the server, a gentleman with a mustache and beard, was upbeat and attentive. As for the quality of food...the roll that was served on the lamb burger was grilled: a sure sign that the roll was old and grilled to try to freshen it up. One of us had an order of mussels. Many of the top half of the pot were inedible. Oddly, when the server cleared the table he noticed that many of the mussels were not touched but he didn't say anything them. Could we have commented on the low quality food while we were eating? Sure, we could have but decided simply it was not worth it as we would not return. read more

I went here for Valentine's Day and the food was amazing. The Portuguese mussels were absolutely delicious. The fries were so tasty as well as the cocktails. The ambiance was very romantic. Service was polite and helpful when trying to decide on an entrée. If your looking for a romantic dinner date that won't cost a lot, this is the place. read more

We came for a romantic dinner on the patio and because they advertised gluten free pizza crust. Service was very slow and spotty. The time it took for water, drink orders, drink arrivals and to place our food order seemed lengthy, especially since the bar and restaurant were nearly empty, with patrons on the patio only. They were out of gluten free crusts, leaving a last minute scramble for something else to order. The food was fine, but nothing fancy that couldn't be replicated at home. read more

Went here for dinner for the first time before a show at Shea's and cannot believe why this place was not packed! My group of four all had cocktails from their special martini list which were all very generous in portion and very tasty (we each had two!). The caesar salad special was delicious, fresh and perfectly crisp. We then shared one of their pizzas and a few different mussel choices and were incredibly impressed by EVERYTHING. On top of the food and drinks being so good, our waitress was extremely personable and outgoing. I really hope this place lasts downtown as a great lunch and dinner spot! read more

While Coco's atmosphere holds up to other reviews, I can't say my culinary experience was quite as exemplary. The menu is very interesting and were it consistently delivered this place would be my #1. However, while fresh, my salad was woefully under-dressed. Duck on a sweet potato pancake was a little overcooked and the pancake had raw onion in it and was soggy. The topper was an extraordinarily burned apple tart. I don't know how they could have sent this out of the kitchen. It was completely black. So, my take away is there's no quality control on this night. If it wasn't for the fantastic music provided by Trio Payazzo, a delicious French chardonnay and the fun atmosphere, this evening would have been less than memorable. To be fair, the restaurant was extraordinarily busy and maybe some staff failed to show on this very snowy evening. Perhpas one bad night should be forgiven. read more

Just came from a business luncheon at Coco. Food and service were reasonably Okay however there was no bread, I was presented with a two foot tall pepper mill from which I had to grind my own pepper for my salad and they ran out of unsweetened iced tea. Last I checked, iced tea isn't difficult to make.... Biggest disappointment however was the inability to hear - there's construction going on upstairs which was extremely disruptive and sidetracked the objective of the business luncheon since conversation was near impossible. When I asked to speak to the manager, they sent what I believe was the tee-shirted dishwasher guy who was reasonably sympathetic. Was able to score three free coffee's as a consolation. read more

I have had lunch and dinner at Coco and it is consistently fantastic. Pricing is good considering the location in downtown/allen area and the quality really is top notch. Solid drink selection and decent bar tender, wish they had some more beer types but what they have is good. The food is consistently great and the atmosphere is nice. It's a good place to go with friends, on a date or just to hang out. The mussels and pizza are great but try the rosemary frites. read more

Pleasant unpretentious decor and generally excellent food. We were a family group of seven celebrating a graduation and it was a great experience. Only one dish failed to impress (the clams). Trout was perfect as were the pizzas. Nice beer list; wine list was not so great with rather high prices for middlebrow or frankly lower-end wines. Good cocktail selections, loved the "route 123". Great service, excellent food. We have been there many times and it is consistently very good. Often we are really late and eat at the bar. They have very creative desserts and cocktails. To top it off, the atmosphere is great. There are murals and artwork of interest on the walls and it not overly noisy. In the summer, they have a cute back patio. read more

Mussels were presented beautifully, but were not fresh, lacked broth and flavor, and were served with "frites" that resembled something you'd get at a cheap diner. This place has been consistently excellent. Specials are always great, the cocktail menu has everyone's tastes covered, and the chef has always been happy to accommodate a request here and there. Servers are excellent, though seeing the busier would be nice. You can miss with the mussels and frites. My personal favorite is the thai curry but there are so many others to try! Restaurant week trial. The atmosphere we easy and comfortable. Seemed loud at first but at the same time it allowed us and island of privacy. The menu was short but presented a fair variety of chicken, pork, or fish with accompanying veg/starch. Not critic so I'll just say the service quick and friendly. The food was warm and terrific. My boyfriend and I were here this past weekend. He got the steak which was cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious. He's also a huge fan of the rosemary frites. I ordered the Italian pizza which was amazing. We got a couple drinks before and both the bartender and the waitress were friendly and knowledgeable and made us feel welcome. So I went to Coco with my dinner club and they seemed to have gluten free items. I ordered the trout with the horseradish caper sauce. When it was placed on the table it looked and smelled delicious. I tasted it and it did in fact taste delicious. Then I got a bone. I thought ok it is fish I should expect a bone here or there. But the more I ate the more bones I got. It was like the scene from the witches of Eastwick and the character kept spitting out cherry pits. Not only were there tiny bones but I was spitting spine bones. I think I ate a whole spine. There were so many bones by the end I just let go of all manners and was literally spitting the many bones in my hand. Quite honestly it was disgusting! The restaurant was cute but this is NO replacement for the Rue Franklin. Boy oh boy do I miss that restaurant! I don't think I will ever eat here again. Just thinking about those bones is turning my stomach. GROSS! Our waitress was not very good at all either. I think it took her 20 minutes to get me another glass of wine. read more

I recently moved back to Buffalo, i was so happy to find Coco because it reminds me of bistro's i had experienced in the bigger cities that i have lived in. The music selection was great they were playing 80's music which no one ever with maybe the exception of abv ever does. I was so excited by the music and the decor, i loved the murals, and the photo frames made out of doors. They had these great quotes in the bar area on chalkboards which you can add yourself and write directly on the wall. Their patio was so beautiful flowers everywhere very parisian feeling atmosphere. Our server Greg was funny yet full of knowledge about menu and the wines. He was like the Robin Williams of waiters. We ordered mussels (curry) and the white mushroom pizza both were great. The mussels were plump and sauce so good with bread for dunking into it. There was a truffle flavor to the pizza which was a great surprise. After dinner we hung out in the bar area so i could enjoy the music for longer. The purple haired bartender made us drinks on the fly that were not on the menu and they were perfect for what we wanted. The drink list there is sublime but i love when you meet a bartender that can make a drink just for you. All in all this place is worth checking out its like a bistro with an edge. I order a provencal pot of mussels and wine and it was a perfect dinner. The pot of mussels were simmered in a rich, tangy tomato base sauce and it comes with a bowl of French fries that are seasoned with some kind of seasoning that you want to take home. I could eat the bowl of fries and finished by licking the bowl, they are that good. The mussels were wonderful and they give you bread to get the last of the sauce. I can't remember the dessert I had, but it s chococlate cake base dessert that was fantastic. read more

Two stars is probably way too generous after last nights meal. Four of us went for their vegan dinner and pretty much from start to finish it was very much sub par. I'm not sure which was worse - the temperature of our food or the fact that this meal took almost THREE HOURS. When we were first seated there were only a couple other tables but it took at least 10 minutes for our waitress to ask what we wanted to drink. The plates that were supposed to be served hot were not even warm, at one point our flustered waitress skipped to another course, saying that she would bring what was supposed to be 3rd out when it was ready, and then apparently forgot about that (or maybe thought we would?) and skipped to dessert. I am well aware that there were no guns pointed at our heads, forcing us to order more drinks, but I can't help but feel that they hoped their slow service would "force" us to keep spending money. We were all shocked when the bill came. Moral of the story - if a restaurant knows how many people have reservations for a special event, please make sure both the kitchen and the service staff have enough people to accommodate. This was a very disappointing experience. read more
