This is probably the best Mongolian Grill in Nor-Cal. Always fresh ingredients, delicious and clean! I suggest having the lunch special with the sushi side. Lots of veggies and stuff to choose from. Our first Mongolian Barbeque was Hula's in Chico and we loved it - went there several times over the past few years. We didn't know about CoCo's, so we decided to try them and were very pleasantly surprised. We think CoCo's is equally as good as Hula's, but is much closer to where we live. Now we can go to CoCo's every time we go to Redding - hurrah! Pleas read the many other complimentary reviews with details about the food available. We had the barbeque without any sushi - we selected ingredients we liked and it was skillfully cooked, ie, it was perfect. And the luncheon price was a bargain. We definitely will be back. read more

We ventured to CoCo's last Saturday night with our party of 9. We'd called ahead and they kindly set up a table for us, despite their "no reservations for parties under 10" policy, which I thought was very kind. The restaurant was only about half-full, despite reports of an hour-long wait for Kahuna's (the other Mongolian place in town). This was our second visit to CoCo's, and we've been to both Mongolian places in town. Both times, the food has just been so-so for me - Kahuna's is better IMO - but we were giving it another chance. The server - I didn't catch her name - was super sweet. Good with the kids (ages 8, 8, 7 and 5), brought us a bunch of appetizers and was very accommodating to our specific requests. Hubby ordered a $30 bottle of sake. It was about the size of a wine bottle, but he had no intention of drinking it entirely at the restaurant. As we got ready to leave, we requested the lid for the bottle so we could transport it home in the back of our car. If you drink wine out as much as we do, you know that this is perfectly legal in the state of California. We've done this countless times with other restaurants. It took them a really long time to address our request, and we were finally approached by the assistant manager (?) another server(?) bartender(?) and were originally told that due to their lack of liquor license, they were unable to let us take the bottle home. They amended this statement to say the -type- of liquor license didn't allow it. Either way, we were not going to be permitted. We told them we had done this with numerous other restaurants in the past and assured them it was perfectly legal. We even looked up the California law on this subject and read them the statute from the Internet and the .gov website. Then the owner/manager approaches us. She continues to argue. "Call the restaurant you were able to do this with, and we'll gladly take their word for it," she asks us. Are you kidding me? You -don't- believe the State of California, but you're just going to believe some number that I call? I basically told her that I didn't believe her and I wasn't going to bother my restaurant friends. We eat out a lot and we know owners of our favorite restaurant (from which we take home wine all the time), but it was not in my interest to bother them with the idiotic argument of this stubborn woman. We had just spent over $150 on food and drinks with our party of 9. The owner was completely unwilling to reimburse us for even half the cost of the bottle of sake (we had only consumed about half the bottle) that we had to leave on the table because she refused to let us -legally- take it home. We argued with her for more than 20 minutes. She was unwilling to accommodate us or budge on her ignorance. We will not be returning. I kindly suggest that you patronize Kahuna's instead. I've been here at least 5 times now. Tasty food, seems fresh and the place feels clean. They could have a larger variety of sauces or more sauce mix suggestions in the Mongolian grill line. Probably the worst Mongolian food I've had. I was super excited because I spent around 60 dollars on DoorDash for the food to be bland, watery, tasted like the meat was rotten. And they season it like they have never seasoned it before. It was possibly the worst 60 dollars I've ever spent. Went to dinner with my niece the customer service was horrible! We got the bowl and shrimp tempura and the meat tasted off and wasn't cooked well then they forgot about my shrimp tempura until we were leaving which by then I asked for a box to go. We waited for thirty minutes for the box and it never came but the bill did. We proceeded to pay and leave and as we're leaving he said oh I forgot the box can you wait to get them? It's the sushi, mate. We've been here several times now for the grill. We're always happy with it. Good, fresh ingredients, good service (I love Rosemary) and a pleasant atmosphere. Sushi? I admit I was slow to try it. I was afraid it was like those Asian buffets where the sushi seems little but a sad afterthought. But one day, Rosemary talked my son and me into trying a California roll. Pedestrian beginner sushi, right? Well, no. My son and I agreed that we'd never had a California roll that good. First off, the good. The grill was very good. Very nice selection of meats & veggies (though no seafood, even at dinner) the price was excellent & it was all you can eat. It also for $13.50 came with rice, soup & cream cheese filled spring roll. All the above was very good. I would suggest they do their sauces like Kahuna's. It's awkward the way it's set up at Coco's & the sauces in the back drip into the sauces in front & I hit the protective glass 3 times while adding them to my bowl & spilled sauce all over the counter & splattered it on my shirt. The bad: service & sushi. Our waitress was very unsure of herself & nervous. Maybe she was new? She had to be called over to refill drinks, bus the table, for everything really, she never checked on us unless I waved her over. She also forgot our sushi order & after we got it, I wish she had. It was not made according to the menu, we ordered the crazy roll. It didn't have the spicy albacore & whatever was put in its place was tough, cooked & extremely fishy tasting. I go to Kampai Sushi regularly, which is fantastic. Coco sushi is not edible. We all ate one piece & that was it. Granted it was a soft opening but what happened to TRAINING employees before an opening it being prepared.?!?! One poor waiter had NEVER been a waiter before his first day on the job today!!!!!! My wife and I decided to try this place today ( Monday ) for lunch. We are from out of town and visiting Redding for a week for some business matters. I looked up this place on Yelp as it was right where we are located. It seemed to have some good reviews so I decided to try out. As we walk in, we were greeted by a young server that sat us down at the booth. She grabbed us our drink orders and then out food orders. My wife decided she wanted to try the lunch Mongolian BBQ bowl. The lunch special for that bowl was around $11.00 and it came with only 1 bowl ( no all you can eat unless it's dinner - which we knew and was fine with because we can't eat that much anyways) soup (choice of miso or egg drop) and a side of rice (white or brown). My wife orders the miso soup and a side of brown rice. I ended up buying the mix sashimi plate for around $15.99. I wanted a side of brown rice and the waitress said it would of cost and extra $1.99. My wife then told me that I can have her side of rice because she wasn't going to eat it so I didn't have to order it. The waitress told us that my wife couldn't let me eat her rice that already came with her meal and I would have to purchase my own. I thought that was so stupid that I decided to say cancel the rice order for me and I'll just take the sushi and the side of egg drop soup that comes with it. We then went up to make out Mongolian BBQ bowl while waiting for our sushi order to be done. They have a good typical selection of different vegetables and meats. The meat will take up most of the bowl room so be careful about overfilling because they only allow you to have one bowl. After out bowl was cooked we returned to our table. Our side soups (and my wife's side bowl of brown rice) were there waiting for us but the sushi wasn't ready yet. My wife started to eat her Mongolian BBQ bowl and decided to give me a little bit to try on a plate since it was a big size bowl and she wasn't as hungry. As I'm trying some of the food, the waitress comes up to us with the sashimi order. She then tells us that we are NOT allowed to share any of the Mongolian BBQ as it states on the menu or she will have to charge us for 2 Mongolian BBQ Bowles. We were shocked. First of all, the lunch only came with one bowl. If the Mongolian BBQ was all you can eat like dinner time then I would understand why they don't want you to share - that's a no brainier! She literally stood there for a second and mentioned again if we do share she will have to charge us for 2 Mongolian BBQ bowls. So I physically stopped trying some of Mongolian BBQ , pushed the plate to the side and told her that this is the most stupidest rule ever and she will get a bad review. First the side rice incident and now this?! Horrible! This is penny pinching and very bad customer service with horrible business ethics. The sushi and the Mongolian BBQ was only OK ( the side soups sucked). The funny part also is my wife didn't even eat the side brown rice that was given to her. It was wasted. I could have just ate it but after being confronted about sharing our own food (when it's not all you can eat) we felt uncomfortable. The most retarded thing actually happened at the end - the waitress came up to us and asked us if we needed a to go box for the food. Wtf is the point of asking for a to go box for the Mongolian BBQ when we couldn't even share it inside the Resturant. We could of just bought - asked for a to go and shared it outside we wanted. The only thing I ate was all the sushi because I did not want to waste $16 bucks and raw fish to go is not a good idea. I know it wasn't the waitress fault and she doesn't make the rules but she still should of had some common sense and tried to make it work. I specially told her to let the owner know about those rules. We still tipped her $3 for crappy service. Should of just tipped $0. You choose from a variety of meats, veggies, and sauces. No limit, so you can fill as much as you can. The bowl of ingredients is then spun around on a large round hot surface. So delicious. I informed her then went to use the restroom as my food was not yet ready. When I returned from the restroom, she greeted me again as if I'd just walked in and we had t just had a conversation. Half of the sashimi had skin left on it, which I don't care for. It was rough and had an unpleasant consistency. The roll was rolled incorrectly. This is a solid place for Mongolian food (haven't tried the sushi yet). The exterior and interior have some nice updates and the staff is friendly. (However, if you go during the busier times, the staff seems a bit scattered and unorganized. I'm sure they'll work out the kinks eventually.) The food is nice and fresh; the only downside is that if it is busier, the wait in line to get your food cooked can be a bit long due to only having 1 grill and a max of 3 cooks. Also, the sauce station is a bit difficult to use without spilling and the suggested ladle menu doesn't provide enough flavor, so some guessing is required. All in all, this is a nice place that I will return to in the future, as the prices are cheaper than Kahunas, and they also provide some nice appetizers to go along with your meal. read more

My first time at CoCo Mongolian Grill & Sushi was fantastic! The setting was spacious and fitting for parties of all sizes. The staff was quick, friendly, and attentive. As soon as our party of 3 entered the restaurant, we were quickly seated at the comfortable booths near the Mongolian BBQ. The Mongolian BBQ was delicious. We each grabbed and filled an empty bowl with a wide assortment of uncooked meats--chicken, beef, turkey, pork, lamb--and fresh vegetables--onions, corn, bell peppers, celery, and much, much more. There were many options for seasoning with a large sign suggesting different combinations. I have a low tolerance for spicy foods, so I chose a milder combination. After filling our bowls with meats, vegetables, and spices, we gave them to the friendly chefs who cooked our personalized bowls on a gigantic, flat grill. It was a meal and a show! My bowl turned out well-seasoned, although I probably could have used a little less of the sauces. Fortunately, this is an all-you-can-eat Mongolian BBQ, so I was able to test a variety of seasoning combinations. Even though I was stuffed from the Mongolian BBQ, I still had my eyes and stomach set on sushi. The plates of sushi served at the tables around us were mouthwatering. I had to have a plate. They offer a wide variety of sushi rolls, and I settled on the Hungry Roll. How ironic. When the plate arrived, I was amazed by its large portion. In my previous experiences with sushi in other restaurants, I could finish one piece in one bite. Here, the pieces were so large that I had to take 2 to 3 bites to finish. The ratio of filling to rice was also very high so that each bite was full of shrimp, crab, avocado,and eel. I was very impressed. Despite being incredibly full from the Mongolian BBQ, I'm embarrassed to say that I was also the one in my party to eat the most sushi pieces. But I have no regrets!
