Came here on Mother's Day for their brunch buffet, and not sure if they overbooked??? Valet was a nightmare, as there was an overflow of cars. Entrance (from valet into the lobby) was swarming with people with very little walkway. IT WAS INSANE. Walking in to the lobby, there was another huge crowd just waiting to be seated. This was poorly executed... AMBIANCE: Noise level was pretty loud inside. Fortunately, we were seated on the terrace, where there were only three tables. I have to give it up to Coco Palm for their delicious food and drinks! We went for Valentine's Day and really enjoyed the 4 course menu they had. Now, service on the other hand needs some work. We had RESERVATIONS at 6:00PM, didn't get seated until 6:35 and didn't get our main course until after 7:30 although we ordered right away. You can tell they were overbooked for Valentine's. The waiting area looked like the waiting room at the Emergency room. Had to remember where I was for a sec haha. Our server was very nice though and apologized about the wait several times. Something else to keep in mind is that you need to get a good window seat to get a good view and even with that, the room we were seated at had the freeway traffic as the best part to look at. Not sold on the ambience. I did want to give everyone a little tip. Take a careful look at your receipt. On mine they added a 20% tip automatically but then give you a suggested gratuity at the bottom of 15-20% MORE. We had the Bolero Room with the buffet option, for about 30-35 people. tl;dr Things that went well: - First meeting - Food was good Things didn't go well: - Our payment info was lost - We didn't meet with the event coordinator again until the day before our wedding - Everyone was generally noncommunicative - The event coordinator was absent the day of the event and said her assistant will be available to help - The assistant met with us once, our tables were set up incorrectly, our wedding toppers were left abandoned on the table instead of being on the wedding cake, and generally anything we asked for was either ignored or done incorrectly Actual review: We met with Coco Palm about 8 months before our event in January 2025. We had a reception in the Bolero room with the buffet option. Our guest count was estimated to be 30-35 people. The initial meeting went well. Rhonda was very friendly and attentive and the room offered to us was beautiful. She assured us that she would be in contact periodically before our event, and that she would schedule a meeting two weeks prior to go over final plans. We had a credit card placed on file for automatic payments. The first payment was not taken as scheduled. We left several messages with staff at Coco Palm as Rhonda was not available at the time. I knew that she wasn't receiving our messages when we received an email from Rhonda saying that we were past due. We emailed her and let her know we had a credit card on file already. This email went ignored, and she responded a few days later reminding us again that the payment was overdue. At this point, I called Rhonda. It turns out they lost our financial paperwork. It wasn't clear if it was disposed of properly or stolen, so there's a possibility our credit card information is floating around somewhere. What left a bad taste in my mouth was the fact that I had to ask for an explanation as to why they weren't automatically charging our card, and all previous communication made it seem like we were deliberately avoiding payment. The next time I heard from Rhonda was on December 30, asking for the final guest count. I attempted to clarify the table arrangement of the venue and she said she would reach out again closer to the event to finalize the arrangements. The week of our wedding, we attempted to call Rhonda several times. Two days before our wedding, she called back and explained that because of the power outages (likely due to the ongoing fires), her answering machine wasn't working and that she was unable to return our call. That would have been fine, but it didn't explain why we weren't contacted two weeks before our event as promised. The day before our wedding, we went to meet with Rhonda, who apologized for not contacting us to finalize the plans as she realized we didn't have a table arrangement set up. We walked over to the room, explained in great detail how we wanted the tables set up and numbered (important to placate certain guests) and we watched her scribble on a piece of paper what we wanted but trusted she would get it done. Then she dropped the bomb that she wouldn't be in the office on our event but that her assistant would be there. We never met the assistant before and she wasn't available to meet prior to the event. The day of our event, we saw that our table numbers were set up incorrectly. We were told that our wedding cake would be placed on a separate and decorated table, but the cake was not in sight and our cake toppers were just sitting on the appetizer table. The assistant came and introduced herself once and we never saw her for the rest of the event. We spoke mainly with the catering captain, who was nice, but didn't seem to know what to do at a wedding reception. When they brought out the cake, it was placed on the appetizer table so there wasn't much room for it. We had to stop them from cutting the cake so we could take pictures. We asked if they could cut the cake, but let people come to get their slices. They said yes, but then started serving the cake sporadically to all the tables, so a table of 7 were getting like 15 slices of cake. Most of the cake ended up wasted. At the end of the event, only the catering captain was available to speak to, and Rhonda's assistant was nowhere to be found. I'm really disappointed in the quality of the event coordination. Things that we were told in the meeting didn't happen, and it felt that once they got our signature on a contract and took the money, they didn't care about anything else. We went to coco Palm for lunch on a Saturday. They have a nice parking lot but unfortunately only valet parking is currently present. We sat on the outside which has a nice view, however, while sitting you won't be able to enjoy it much unfortunately. They have a well thought out lunch menu and it has many different options for regular diners, vegans, etc. I had two of their lychee martinis and they were very tasty. I would order them again. For appetizers, we had the empanadas, ahi tuna and croquettes. The ahi tuna was fresh and different, probably the highlight of the brunch. We enjoyed beef more in both, empanadas and croquette combos. It was interesting trying Cuban style appetizers. For entree, I had their salmon and it was fresh and a good size meal. I had always seen the restaurant while driving on the freeway but never did I know it was a Cuban Restaurant. 3.5 * Came her to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We've been seeing this restaurant for years up on the hill, and made it a point to finally come here. When I looked up the menu online I was surprised to find out it was Cuban food. My wife ordered the empanizado (chicken fried steak basically) and I ordered the Mar y Tierra (lobster and steak), and added the shrimp scampi. Also, the yucca con chicharrón as an appetizer. Our mains came out before our appetizer. We assumed the waitress had just forgotten, so chopped it up to no big deal as long as we're not billed for it. My wife really enjoyed her meal and the mojito. I on the other hand thought my meal was just okay. The steak was cooked nicely and seasoned only with salt and pepper how it should be. However, the salt was sprinkled on one location of the steak. So one bite was super salty and the rest was lacking flavor. The lobster was unusually fishy in flavor and not sweet and tender like what I'm normally used to having. Side note: per their menu you are not allowed to make modifications to your orders. Halfway through our meal our app finally comes out. The chicharrón was burnt, and although it didn't taste bad it was off putting. The waitress noticed and so she removed from our table and brought us a much better tasting and nicer looking plate. Here's the caveat, I mentioned the chicharrón tasting good and it did but it had a garlic mojo that was not appealing to me personally. We loved this venue and really enjoyed working with Rhonda to help make our wedding day special. Everything was perfect until the actual day where there appeared to be some miscommunication with the staff when rearranging the tables after our ceremony. Our couple table was in the wrong place (in front of stage) when we entered after taking pictures and had to ask that our table be moved to the right place as had been agreed. As a result, the guest tables were also not moved forward and this resulted in our closest family members sitting almost behind us where we could not see them directly nor they us since these tables were not moved forward in the proper place. This was extremely disappointing and guests were already seated so it was too late to resolve. The appetizers and food were amazing, plentiful and everyone raved at how delicious it all was. The staff was also very nice and helpful with anything that was needed. We chose to use our own DJ, which turned out to be a problem because there were various issues with the venues WiFi and it turned out to be what was the most disastrous. This shouldn't have been an issue but for some reason was at this venue. Just sharing this for awareness and avoid others from making the same mistake. I ordered the churrasco with mashed cassava. I loved the sauce that came with the dish so I could pour it on the steak. Super flavorful! The mashed potatoes came out perfectly and was soft and buttery. My boyfriend ordered the palomilla and enjoyed it! The steak was juicy and had wonderful flavor. Came here last night with my good friend and my girlfriend. My buddy really wanted to try this place, which is why we came. We sat down and I ordered a bottle of wine (Coppola) the waiter came back and informed me that this bottle was not available, so he upsold me a different bottle. My girlfriend ordered a Belvedere and vodka. He then came back and told her, "sorry, we don't have belvedere but we have grey goose". This was upsell #2. She obliged and ended up saying that it was alright (he already approached our table with the drink). We placed our order for appetizers and then for our main courses. I asked the waiter if I could substitute my rice on the ropa vieja with yellow rice. He told me that it should be ok, but then he tried to upsell me a side of the yellow rice. This is just annoying at this point. Furthermore, my plate was supposed to come with black beans (which it did not). I had to reach out to another server to request this being almost 70% done with the meal. The ropa was so salty it was nearly inedible. There was an unbelievable amount of salt in it. My girlfriend and friend ordered the paella and it was ok. After receiving our food, the waiter never came back to the table. In fact, I had to ask another waitress to close us out. It was very obvious that he was allocating his time to the inside tables (and forgot about us outside). I probably won't return. The food is ok at best, and the service is lackluster. I was truly impressed with the food at this place! The location is really quite wonderful with spectacular views. I'd been here years ago for dinner and remembered the food was pretty good. Came here again for a co-worker lunch and I have to say the food was better that I remembered it. I opted for the pork criollo served with rice and plantains. An appetizer plate was shared which came with empanadas, plantains, calamari, and more! It was super delicious, the sauce on the side was amazing- a garlicky yummy herby blend. Everyone at the table seemed happy with their dishes. A couple got the paella and it was enormous! I do remember they used to serve bread and a black bean dip as an appetizer- that wasn't offered this time. Maybe its dinner only, but it was a nice touch and as I recall it was delicious. The space itself has a sort of out-of-time abandoned-palace vibe with a grand gated entrance. The parklot's a bit crumbly, and then there are caged parrots. The interior is a lot of black marble and white columns, a little sterile but Somehow it works. I think the place could do with some updates but again, oddly, it is very endearing as is. The red sangria was also very tasty. The mashed potato balls were ok, but there was more mashed potato than the beef/pork carne inside. So, they were a little dry. Why 4 and not 5 stars, I had called to request a window seat a week prior to our reservation. Unfortunately, we were told no window seat was available when we arrived, but we could wait an additional 45 min if we wanted one. After being seated for about 10 min, 2 parties by windows left leaving window tables open. Our server Luis was great. Very attentive and always checked on us. The food was delicious and very tasty. We ordered a few plates to share with our group and we were barely able to finish it. There were a few holiday parties going on since we came close to Christmas time but it was good and not too loud. Although a party showed up about 30 minutes before we were done and sat next to us and they were extremely loud. But all laughs and giggles, it's holiday times so be merry and joyous to all. The sea bass is phenomenal and I drown it in their mojo sauce - garlic sauce. Even the bread and bean dip is mouth watering. We came for the first time for Valentine's day in February of 2020. And since we've been back multiple times. Our daughter loves the views and outside, and the koi pond and parrot of course! Can't wait till our next visit! Parking lot is big. I believe on weekend evenings there is mandatory valet, as it's just the one lot and not a parking structure where valet is usually optional. But never valet on weekdays (tues-thurs). Cash only. The women's bathroom is clean and nice. More of an outdated fancy feel. The outdoor seating is so nice! And they have heaters as well for when it's cold - that actually work so well! My complete honest thoughts of this place; The food was good, but 30 minutes into getting home I had food poisoning. Super bad symptoms and stomach ache. The place looks clean, but it gets so crowded and then you can't even hear the people at your table. The view is the freeway and a few businesses really nothing fascinating.
