Great place for some shrimp and rice plates! The portion seems big overall but it's honestly a big chunk of rice with 6 small-medium sized shrimp. I do appreciate the salad and yummy dressings on the side. The flavors of the shrimp is generally very good! I find that sometimes the rice is overly salted but just depends on the day. I love this option since I always struggled finishing the tasty, seasoned rice. After getting more salad than rice, I kid you not...I was able to finish the entire meal. Let's talk about the shrimp though. They come in different flavors. *Coco: Think of that crunchy, deep fried batter shrimp. You dip them in sweet chili sauce, and it's a winner! *Butter garlic: This is my absolute favorite of all time! I mean "butter garlic" sounds amazing already - I just love the added herbs on top, making them so fragrant. *Spicy: I haven't tried the spicy shrimp before, but was in for a nice surprise. It is spicy, but not a tear-jerker. That creamy sauce gave it a delicious heat. Our lunch came with extra shrimp because the shrimps were smaller that day. I was so excited to have Coco Shrimp open a brick & mortar location in far north to replace the original food truck that used to sit at Beach & Basswood. For a minute this location in South Main Village was the only place we could get our Coco Shrimp fix. Now it's just across the highway from us! The south main store is super busy at lunch time every time I've visited. What they do, they do right. Coco Shrimp is one of those rare products that make a limited menu that presents one thing so well, it just hits. Shrimp on rice. The only variation is the flavor of the shrimp. For keto people like me, you can make it Shrimp on lettuce. That's it. Pick your flavor and enjoy a healthy portion of hot, yummy, tasty food. No sides. No chicken. no kids menu. And, the line is out the door. I met a friend here for lunch on his birthday and got him some Mochi, which he'd never tried before. He loved it! The festive, fun, Hawaiian/Pacsun-reminiscent atmosphere is always inviting. Ordering is quick and easy. And the food is just super great, fresh, and healthy. Around 6pm on a Tuesday. Took less than 20 min to order and get food Parking: Save yourself the hassle. Drive once around their tight parking lot (which is shared with another restaurant) and give up and park across the street, paid parking. Lol. We did luck up on a park, though. There is Street parking, too, but we didn't trust that. I ordered the sampler: 7 shrimp, rice, and salad. I got coconut shrimp (don't have to have again) and the sweet and spicy shrimp (will definitely have again). It came with additional sauces. Patio seating was full. Bummer ! It was a beautiful day. Cashier was friendly enough. Restaurant was clean. There is a sink to wash your hands as soon as you walk in. I believe their bathrooms are single stall bathrooms. We had been to the Coco Shrimp food truck in Fort Worth and it was very good. When I found out they opened a restaurant in the Near Southside area in Fort Worth I had to go and try them out. They did not disappoint still very good as the food truck was. I got the Sampler which you pick three sauce flavors. I did the butter garlic, lemon butter and, spicy shrimp. All are good choices. I like how the sauce gets on the rice that the shrimp sits upon gives the rice a good flavor. A salad comes with the meal and the poppy seed dressing is wonderful. We went on a Saturday afternoon no wait ordered at counter and then took a seat. Food came out fast, good and hot. Restaurant has a cool vibe décor not a lot of indoor seating but enough. Large outside patio with tables. Parking is on the side not a lot may have to drive around look for parking. We parked on Main Street no issue with parking. Holy crap, this place is delicious. If they open a location in Dallas, my diet is in trouble. Hubs had the butter garlic and I had the coco. Both were incredible. I preferred the poppyseed dressing to the ginger, and for some weird reason, the poppyseed dressing made the salad taste like a Big Mac. I can't explain it, but my husband mentioned it and then I couldn't taste anything else but Big Mac. I will dream about the butter sauce on the rice. It was ridiculous! If you are eating low carb, I would highly recommend getting the sampler where you can get three types of shrimp flavors and request a bed of salad in exchange for rice. The salad has cranberries, which adds a flavor of zing to the meal. For extras, I would recommend the avocado and macadamia nuts. The avocado is plentiful. My favorite type of shrimp is the coconut flavored one. My friend said he would not bother with the other ones. I've been to Coco Shrimp a multitude of times, now! And, I've tried everything on the menu. The Spicy, Lemon Herb, and Butter Garlic are grilled shrimps coated with previous stated flavors of sauce, while the Coco Shrimp and Sweet & Spicy are fried shrimps in a coconut batter. There is no sauce on the Coco Shrimp, but the Sweet & Spicy has a buffalo-y chipotle and tangy teriyaki sauce drizzle over them. My favorite is still the Sweet & Spicy. read more

Best seafood taco I've ever had. Very juicy and very filling. The sampler was also great. The first flavor you say will have 3 shrimp, the other two will have 2 shrimp. But very filling. Came with a side salad that was tasty. Also came on a bed of rice that had a little too much rice. Overall, this place was well worth the money and i immediately recommended it to coworkers and friends in the area. Service: seems good but this first time we went, it took us 25 minutes to get our food because they lost my order. My family kept seeing people come in and out and they got their food but we didn't. I asked if we needed to stay inside to wait for our food but they said they'd come find us outside. Waited another 15 minutes. Then we asked what happened. They deleted my order and they thought the other order was an online order and it was just sitting in a bag. So we had to wait another 5 minutes. Total wait time for our food: 30 minutes. My new favorite place for shrimp. The shrimp are a good size and are the same size for all dishes. Every dish comes with rice that has butter sauce on it and salad with choice of poppy seed or ginger dressing. All in a perfect size box. There's the namesake dish, coconut shrimp. Unlike the other shrimp, these are fried. It comes with a sweet, marmalade type sauce. I don't like the marmalade sauce at Outback but this one is fab. My favorite is the butter garlic shrimp. It's so good with that wonderful rice! The shrimp on this and all the other dishes are sauteed. The shrimp are very flavorful and taste fresh. You'll be surprised to find that these sauteed shrimp dishes with different sauces are all that's on the menu. There are add ons for the salad like macadamia nuts and avocado and I suggest you try the grilled pineapple add on. It's wonderfully delicious. Standard drinks available plus Hawaiian beer. There are only 2 caveats, in my humble opinion- only plastic silverware is available and shrimp styles. I wish they had just plain fried shrimp offered with the same or different sauces. But I can and probably should, live without the fried food. All in all a great casual place to eat if you like shrimp. read more

COVID-safe for pickup! Came through after calling in to place my to-go order. I got the shrimp sampler which comes with rice, three different flavors of shrimp and a light salad with all of their salad dressings. The lady who answered the phone was an absolute delight! She told me what the most popular shrimp flavors were (GET THEIR BREADED COCONUT ONE) and even threw in all of the salad dressings in there because I mentioned that this was my first time after hearing about Coco Shrimp on yelp! Thank you gal! Parking was easy. They have a lot that's on a slight incline, but there were plenty of spots. It seems to be shared with all of the other shops in the area. It's safe and the shop is easy to find. I was able to pick up my order within 15 minutes, and it was still piping hot and wrapped up in their paper to-go box. When I opened the box the beautiful colors and delicious shrimp caught my eye! I didn't know where to start. The salad was so fresh and honestly it was the flavors for me. I was on the road, so the to-go box was actually perfect! It reminded me of the huge, juicy and fresh seafood I had in Maui and the lightness of the salad and dressings sealed the deal for me. Just wow! Coco Shrimp has been on my list to eat for quite a while and it lived up to the hype! My first experience with this style of shrimp/rice was the famous food truck in Oahu, Hawaii...and I haven't had anything like it since. Coco's is located in this new restaurant/bar area, while there is a few parking in the actual lot, it's shared with other businesses...majority of the parking is on the street. We had the lemon herb, spicy, sweet & spicy, butter garlic shrimp flavors. ALL EXCELLENT! Choosing the double rice option gave you even more rice...more than one can even finish. The salad with the poppy dressing... excellent! Next time, I will ask to add even more shrimp, it would definitely be worth the up charge. Coco Shrimp is one of a kind, and it is up to par (if not better) with this type of food in Hawaii. We need to see more Hawaiian shrimp eateries in Texas!! read more

They were crazy busy this beautiful Saturday afternoon, and I was lucky to find a close parking spot. Ordered and waited about 25 minutes, got my food to go, then walked across the street to Hopfusion Ale Works and finished off my sampler dinner as I sipped on my feisty redhead blonde ale. First off, the real surprise was the salad and salad dressings. Get a sample of both dressings (lemon poppy & ginger?) and they are both excellent! The rice is seasoned nicely with garlic and other seasonings, and is a meal just by itself. Be sure to order the grilled pineapple for $1- perfect! Now the fried shrimp. I ordered a sampler but chose to split it 2 ways (3+3) with the sweet and spicy shrimp and the Coco shrimp. Loved them both. Above average size and perfectly cooked. Nice contrasting flavors. This place probably ranks a 4.5/5 but given the somewhat ridiculous wait time (25 mins) mid-afternoon and literally no seating, I'd have to give it a 4/5. Definitely worth a try, especially when they aren't busy. Fun area to hang out with several craft breweries within a blocks distance. read more

Okay, I don't get the hype over this place. I got a sampler with coconut shrimp and spicy shrimp. I was shocked and disappointed that my $15 meal has only six shrimps, that's it. It also came with an excessive amount of rice and what was supposed to be a cold salad, that after being trapped in a box with hot rice and shrimp got warm and ick. The rice was good, but again, way too much of it....especially in ratio to how little shrimp you're getting. Even if you assume that 25% of your meal cost is for that rice and salad, that still means you're essentially paying approx $1.80 per shrimp in your meal. Okay but the shrimp was excellent right? No. It was dry and over cooked. It clearly had come from a large batch sitting under a heat lamp and not cooked fresh. The coconut on the shrimp was actually even burnt. I've literally had better shrimp from a bag in the freezer section of Walmart. For a place where the focus is supposed to be on shrimp, they completely missed the goal. read more

HOW have I not written a review for this place? I take everyone who comes to visit me from out of town here and they always rave about it after. It's also a staple for me during Lent! They have a simple menu, but they do it so well. Only thing they could do better is take the tails off the shrimp for you, but I don't mind doing it myself. Pro tip: you can customize your salad to rice ratio and get "more salad than rice" if you want to lower the calories a bit.
