Honestly I showed up and there was a 20 minute wait, which was understandable. I mean it is Sunday and I did show up for brunch. I sat down, ordered my drink and food and waited another 20 minutes for food. I ordered a Santa Barbara omelette with tri tip which came with a hash-brown and biscuit, I also asked for a water. The whole time I was there my water was never refilled. My omelette had NO flavor, no salt and was dripping in sauce. My hash brows again had no salt and became mushy with the sauce. I could barely eat any. Moving on to my biscuit, it was SO DRY. No amount of butter could make it edible. Let's total the bad food with bad service and bad weather, which is not the restaurants fault, I will NOT eat here again. Here's a tip Cody, pay your servers more so they can serve us more. Currently 93°, with not water, while I'm waiting for the server to come pick up the check. read more

Man I was craving some wings and there's not many places in the area that have wings. You see a lot of liquor stores but not bars that serve wings. Anyway saw this place riding around and was like hmmmm lemme stop here and see. Damn them wings were on point. Bartender stated on Saturdays wings are$3 I was just a day short. Buffalo wings with just enough spice and flavorful! Not too much breading and not much chicken(no hormones) the way a chicken wing should be. That's all I ordered along with their drink special "Apple whiskey" can't go wrong with that. Left satisfied and will definitely return another Saturday to get that wing special. read more

Although there was only a short waiting line when we arrived at the restaurant, it took about 15 minutes for a waitress to come take our orders for a party of only three persons. Then it took another 25 minutes for our food to come out from the kitchen. Needless to say, the restaurant was severely understaffed both with the serving staff and the cooking staff. This is shortsided from the part of the restaurant management and ownership, because with proper staffing in both front and back of the restaurant, the table turnover might have been 1.5 to 2.0 times what it was, while the customers would not need to experience such slow/poor service. read more

It was my first time here. Food was good, coffee was okay. I wish service was better! I had asked for a coffee with room for cream and I received a full coffee cup. My hubby ended up taking the coffee then I asked for another coffee, room for cream and never got one! My husband asked for a breakfast plate with hash brown and white toast with a side of pot roast. He got a pot roast lunch plate, a side of eggs, hash browns and no toast. We waited about 20 minutes to order and about 45 min for our food to arrive! We understand it was a busy lunch rush but the least the server could of done is made sure we had our drinks correct and it would have been nice to be acknowledged and possibly even apologized for the long wait. An expeditor, finally brought us our food and 15 min into it the server finally came to ask If everything was fine, which I already got up before he came to check, to ask for ketchup and napkins. Nice local restaurant, but didn't have our best interests for our 17 person lunch party. I had called the restaurant a month in advance to make a reservation for my father's 94th birthday at 11:30 a.m. We would have approximately 17 people and we would bring a cake to the luncheon. The person who took my reservation said the separate/more private room we wanted to be in, (not the main restaurant floor area), was open and no one had a reservation. They mentioned since we only had 17 in our party, that we might get another smaller party in the private room with us, but that was fine with me. So today when our party of 17 arrived, they placed us on the main floor of the restaurant at 11:30 a.m. When I questioned them and said we had a reservation for the private smaller room, the only explanation we received was they had already set our table up in the main room, we needed to sit there, and the private room had a 10 a.m. reservation of people that were still there, not ready to leave yet. The person at the cash register said we couldn't have the room, because they wouldn't go tell this 10 a.m. reservation to get out of the room, because they weren't finished eating. This to me was not acceptable, and I feel the restaurant mgr or someone should have told the 10 a.m. reservation, that there was another party that was coming in at 11:30 a.m. If they were not going to be done by then, they should have placed them on the main floor, not us. This was the first issue I had with our luncheon today. Secondly we did not get our food until almost 1 pm. I know taking a lunch order for 17 is cumbersome, however it took over an hour for our food to be cooked, and brought to our table. The server(s) did their best, and we understand it was a busy day, however we were famished by the time the food was placed in front of us, and some of the entrees were not hot, they were lukewarm. But we didn't send them back, since it took so long to get them the first time. So our rating of the service was a 3 for this larger luncheon party (not happy with being placed on the main floor of the restaurant). The food was a 4, and tasted good, but was lukewarm and not hot. The server(s) did bring our cake out, and sang happy birthday, which was great, and they cut the cake and served it. Nice touch to end our luncheon. I probably won't bring our large party here next year, I'll try and find another restaurant who can handle larger parties i.e. keeping our reservation as it was made, more expedient service and warmer entrees when served. read more

Cody's is a neighborhood place and is somehow associated with the excellent Mesa Cafe. The menu is the same as the Mesa Cafe, but the ambience and quality of the food can't compare. Where Mesa is excellent in nearly every category Cody's falls flat. The food is boring frequently and served cool. The waitstaff is ok but nothing special. My biggest complaint is my breakfast always seems to be served on a cold plate! I have given Cody's several try's because of its close location, but no more! read more

Highly recommended! Our favorite restaurant in the area, Cody's delivers consistently fresh, well-prepared food. The teriyaki spinach salad (for lunch) and crispy chicken salad (for dinner) are particularly delightful, as is the turkey burger (which comes loaded with jalapeo slices --- yum!). The service is always superb and prompt. The restaurant is large enough that there's seldom a wait for a table (except on Sunday mornings), but not so large that the personal touch is lost. read more

I've been to Cody's a number of times. I'd have to say the best experience was breakfast. I ordered pancakes with berries. The pancakes were tasty and the berries were very fresh. I have been there three other times for dinner and have been disappointed with the food. From greasy fish to sour chicken piccata I have preferred not to have more than a couple bites. I'm typically not one to complain but when you see how the cook takes a piece of chicken and dips it into a bucket of yellow muck that sitting on top of the refrigerator for who knows how long, you could very well lose your appetite. The chicken was as chewy as gum. It didn't even taste like meat. I set it aside and decided I would have the side salad. When I moved it closer to me I noticed it came on a cold plate which just made me realize that salad had been prepared, plated, and stored in the fridge until a customer ordered it. I realize vegetables needs to be refrigerated but it seems lazy to serve it and not check to see if it's still fresh considering parts of it were soggy and had gone bad. The only reason I returned because the service was decent. The waiter was very funny and attentive. I had hoped it was just an off day for food quality, but after three times of being disappointed it's not with spending money on. read more

Great Mom and Pop brunch cafe. The menu offers a wide variety of American comfort breakfast food and Mexican breakfast food. The food was so good that I went two days in a row to try another menu item. Everything seemed fresh and homemade, and the portion sizes were phenomenal. I loved the blueberry muffin. The puff on top tasted and felt like a soft sugar cookie, yet the inside was rich and fluffy. Absolutely delicious. What an absolutely disgusting establishment. The service was fine and the waitresses were nice but does any of the other stuff matter if the food was terrible? I ordered a "California" Eggs Benedict without the hollandaise sauce and thank GOD for that impulsive decision not to drizzle this trash food with a mysterious yellow sauce. I received a cold barely toasted soggy English muffin, with 2 slices of a yellow avocado no thicker than penny. The eggs on top were not runny poached eggs- god that would have been nice. The eggs on top, or what I originally thought was a super bouncy ball based on the size, texture and thickness, were instead hard boiled. When I asked for them to bring me new eggs, they brought 2 sunny side up eggs dripping in oil as if they were found in Gulf of Mexico following the BP oil spill. And the worst part, I paid 20 dollars for this excuse for food. read more

Run of the mill diner located in an outdoor shopping plaza along with a CVS and Vons. Breakfast is served until 2 pm. I love breakfast anytime of day so I got Javiar's french toast. It came with three thick slices of bread, topped with tons of sliced bananas and almond slivers. The bread slices were nice and pillowy. I barely uses any syrup and didn't even bother with the butter. I think it was sweet enough due to the powdered sugar on top. It wasn't extraordinary, but it was filling. My dining companions both got salads, and they looked pretty good. The salads come with two slices of garlic bread. Service was fast and friendly. It didn't make a great impression on me, but it's a decent place for breakfast/lunch if you're in the area. read more

Cody's own website claims that this establishment is a "local hangout" and a "local favorite" but I must say that it is the customers who define what is and is not a local favorite. Right? Woody's Bodacious Burgers...now THAT'S a local favorite; Cody's? I'm not so sure. Just hanging a few used surfboards from the ceiling does not make your common cafe into a hangout for local beach-bums and long-haired college kids. Sorry Mr. Cody. We were here on Mother's day, and I was disappointed with my food. I had fish and chips, which would seem hard to mess up, right? The 'chips' were ok, but not fantastic. What was really marginal were the battered whitefish pieces. I love to douse my deep-fried battered fish with the obligatory malt vinegar, which I did. But that common treatment seemed to ruin the chispy-fried coating. The batter sloughed off the fish like it was never cooked, and I ended up with separate bits of wet fish and soft, wet dough. My son had the bacon cheeseburger and my wife had a sirloin steak. She ordered it "medium-well" but it arrived too pink for her liking and she said the meat was rather chewy. The burger was good, but only half was eaten and half was brought home for later. I had a small bowl of vegetable soup with my fish and chips. The soup was good, but it was very chunky. Two huge pieces of potato took up nearly half of the soup bowl. Cody's is easy to find, sited on the north side of Hollister Ave west of Santa Barbara. Parking is ample and easy; the place is clean inside and out. Service was good, but not what I would call "attentive". We were seated quickly, but were not asked about drinks for quite some time. The menus may be separate, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Our menu was marked "dinner" and it was only a single-fold placard, with drinks and desserts on the back and meal choices on the inside. Rather attenuated and restricted, the dinner choices are grouped into pasta, burgers, salads, and appetizers, with a separate boxed area of "entree favorites". Really, not much to choose from, especially if you don't like burgers or pasta. Oh, I finished my meal with a slice of apple pie and scoop of vanilla ice cream. The pie was excellent and so was the ice cream. Perhaps the weekend brunches are better than the dinner fare; but, all things considered, only three stars. They used to have one of the best happy hours in town, and some pretty good dinner to boot! Unfortunately, they stopped keeping the place open past 3p recently, so alas the happy hour magic is no more. Pretty dang good breakfast if you're in the area, though! I don't understand how people are comparing this to Denny's. I thought it was far superior. On my plate was bacon, eggs, sausage, hash browns, and sourdough toast. It was delicious! The hash browns were cooked perfectly and served in a large portion so dense that they stayed piping hot until I had eaten them all (I ate them last). Bacon, sausage, eggs, and toast were great! Don't worry about it, have a good day." And I was stunned, I smiled and shook his handed and thanked him. That's CUSTOMER SERVICE. I asked for plain no seasoning chicken and that's what I got which was good and a scoop of delicious mashed taters and it hit the spot!!!!! Great breakfast spot, MUCH better than a corporate place like Denny's or IHOP... Quality food and huge portions: I paid $11.50 for a deluxe omelette (bacon cheese avocado and added green onions), a large portion of hashed browns and two biscuits. The food was great, and I had more than my fill & was still able to box up about 1/3 of my plate for a fantastic "leftovers" breakfast the next day... Service was excellent; food came out extremely quickly, coffee was frequently refilled, couldn't have asked for more on this front... 5/5 so far. (I wasn't in the mood for a drink on my last visit, but they do offer a full bar with a variety of morning cocktails.) Minus 1 star: We were seated at our booth for about 90 minutes. We were approached THREE TIMES by an outside solicitor trying to sell me flowers. I'm not sure if I was more bothered that this individual was illegally hawking "goods" that he'd obviously never pay taxes on, or that a place like Cody's allows said "hawker" to freely roam their establishment and harass patrons. Either way, Cody's needs to do the right thing and bar all solicitors from their restaurant, and contact the sheriff's office about repeat offenders.
