I absolutely love coffeeology- their coffee is delicious, their specialty drinks are creative and tasty, and their staff (and management) are witty, courteous and peppy even at the butt crack of dawn when I'm rushing off to work. They got me through undergrad, they got me through my first semester of grad school, they got me through multiple jobs. I'm proud to say I'm a regular at coffeeology & im looking forward to getting my favorite coffee tomorrow morning (and the next and the next). Out of season comment- their gelato is also out of this world. I know it's hard to think about in winter, but when it warms up I strongly recommend the Ferrero Rocher flavor. read more

5 star because the barista properly frothed the milk for a cappuccino. Its hard to find a place these days that does it the right way. Usually I end up with some hot milk with some bubbles on top. The food was okay, but nothing special. I wanted to get a soup but apparently they did not have their fall soups in yet. Although, it had been fall for 2 weeks. I was in Greensboro for about 4 days and of the 4 days i was there i came into Coffeeology twice. Once on Friday and once on Saturday. The first time i came in, i had a Boci. What's a Boci? I really don't know. All i know is that it's hazelnut and chocolate flavored and its DELICIOUS. Its like drinking a candy bar! YUM!! The 2nd time i came around, I had a shot of espresso. Not just any espresso but their premium espresso which was really good and smooth. I haven't had great coffee for a while and that was definitely a treat. I haven't tried any of their foods but from what i hear, their gelato is amazing. Ryan R. had their mango flavored one and she basically devoured it in one bite. Anyhoo, this place seems like a perfect spot for students to meet up and have discussions or to even come and get some studying done, assuming you don't mind the conversations that are happening around you. I remember when they opened this place up while I was in school at UNCG, and it was like a freaking godsend. (I've disliked TSCH's coffee for years and years - always tastes old and burned to me.) I'm a regular here. Coffeeology is one of the greatest coffee houses ever! Where to begin...they have a wide variety of coffee selections, both hot and on ice. They also offer tea, hot chocolate, and an excellent apple cider (hot or iced) made with tasty apples from Vermont. Oh, did I mention the excellent pastries? They have a mean spice cake, chess pie, apple fritter, tuxedo cake, and a superb double decker pumpkin cake. I have yet to try their gelato, but it looks so good that I just may. The food is terrific as well. You can get breakfast here as well as sandwiches and soup. Plus, this is the first coffee house I've been to where you can get biscuits & gravy as well as chicken & waffles! You won't find that at Dunkin or Starbucks. This is my go-to coffee shop when I'm visiting my hometown. If you're going to be a regular there, its pretty economical to get coffee since you can buy their stainless steel mug for about ten bucks and from then on out you get your coffee for $1. They've got a killer breakfast burrito and the affogato, any flavor of gelato drowned in espresso is a little taste of heaven. Also of note: there isn't tons of seating and spots fill up quick (often times with baristas in between or after shifts). I live in the College Hill neighborhood, just over the hill from Tate St. I spent my high school and college years in that *other* coffee house across the street from Coffeeology. I still like that place, but I feel more like a grown-up at Coffeeology. In my experiences, every barista and cook at Coffeeology has been super friendly and neighborly; hardly a lick of snobbery. Can't always say the same about their counterparts across the street. The food and, of course, drinks, at Coffeeology are terrific, of course, but for me, the great, friendly service makes them even better. Food - The panini are delicious (if a teensy bit small for the cost), and the case muffins & desserts are also pretty good. But the gelato and the breakfast goodies from the kitchen are where it's at here. Don't leave the place without trying one of them. Drinks - Their house specialty drinks are great. Every drink is easily customizable, with nary an eye-roll from the barista. The sheer variety of beverages is pretty impressive for a college-neighborhood coffee place. You can, of course, buy brewed coffee by the mug or cup, but one thing that's a cut above at Coffeeology is the french-press-for-two (or -four) option. Perfect for mornings out or post-theater. Oh, and they use milk & cream from Homeland Creamery in Julian, NC, and several of their food items are from local suppliers too - and I will surely support a local business that's already supporting local farms and other local businesses! Thanks to my day job, I am rarely at Coffeeology to see it full and without open seats, so if you plan to sit & stay awhile, early weekday mornings, late weekday afternoons, or late weekday evenings are good times to claim your spot. What I love about this place is that they made Tate St step it up. They have a small breakfast & lunch menu, and gelato! I've tried a few things and loved it all! The prices are decent too. The coffee is really good and they offer more sugar options then Tate St does which is a big deal to me. There is wifi and outside seating. FOOD: Standard alty cafe offerings--good espresso, coffee, and healthier breakfast as well as salad/sandwich options (great find for people who want to eat healthier in Greensboro). - Latte I had was great--great flavor without the puckering tang of espresso too finely ground. - Avocado toast with poached egg--eggsellent!! Had one for breakfast and one for lunch - Fresh fruit cup--half of it was rotten. Check before buying. Store was perfectly friendly when I brought it back. To be fair, students were on break in January, so I am sure they weren't selling as quickly. The red delicious apples (which seem to last forever in the fruit world) were satisfactory (not at their peak crunchiness, but not mealy yet) SERVICE: Friendly staff who gave good directions and accommodated my rush breakfast need. And welcomed me back for my three visits in one day :). AMBIANCE: Soft ambient music and wifi make this a great place to work right off campus. The lighting wasn't too aggressive (as I imagine it would be in the library) and there is ample seating. read more

This review breaks my heart to write. Coffeeology was my favorite coffee shop, but it's under new management or ownership, and is clearly not the same. I applaud the new furniture; it is updated and nice, but the place has lost it's neighborhood coffee shop vibe. Most of the workers and familiar faces have left. Twice I've had to explain my drink order. Even though it's still listed, I get eye rolls and "what's that supposed to be?" when I order it. If you're in a hurry, you should think twice as the average wait time is now much longer. We just to come here for study sessions, but sadly we're going to have to find a new place. I sincerely hope these are just growing pains, and the new owner will realize what made this place so special. read more

This is a great place for a quick coffee to go. The roast is robust, consistent, and rich. I recommend trying the super premium espresso, too. Coffeeology is extremely convenient to the university campus and it is priced with students in mind. You can get any of their food items all day, including breakfast items like scrambled egg wraps, waffles, crepes...and they have freshly made authentic, italian-style gelatos. Like someone said, the WIFI can be slow at times, but it's free and you can't complain. So many people use it and it can bog down at times. FWIW, it has gotten better. The main limitation of this venue is the space. There is not a lot of room to sit and you can count on asking someone to share a table. They do have sidewalk seating available, too. Ahh, I remember the Great Tate Street Coffee War of 2009 almost like it was yesterday... Before 2009, there was only Tate Street Coffee near the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. With its lackluster service, disheveled (actually dirty atmosphere, and worst of all immoderately priced excuses for coffee; I grew tired of Tate Street Coffee being the only player in the game. Well in September 2009, a challenger arose! If you take one thing away from this review it is that Coffeeology is MUCH better than Tate Street Coffee. They offer a clean and inviting atmosphere, a friendly and considerate staff, they serve a wide range of homemade gelato, their food is made to order, and their coffee clearly prevails over Tate Street's. read more

Checked out this place for brunch today. it was my first visit so didn't know what to expect. I had a great slice of Italian pie which was a quiche. It was great and a nice size slice that came with a side of hash browns for 7 bucks. I wonder if they made in in-house or if they brought it from somewhere else cause it was really good! I don't know if I'm happy or sad that I found this place only a month before moving out of the state. On one hand, I may have saved myself from spending money every day on their awesome drink selection, but I've also missed out on trying every last item on their menu.There are a variety of drinks to suit anybody's tastes (both coffee and non-coffee drinkers), an enticing menu for both lunch and breakfast (which is served ALL DAY!), and even a fantastic gelato selection. I got an iced Bee Thousand (honey & cinnamon) which I'm attempting to slowly savor as I write this review. Not too sweet and the flavors are certainly present. Also got a sandwich with hummus & chips for only $5.50, the perfect price & portion for a light lunch. My friend got a strawberry smoothie, which looked good but was incredibly sweet. The service wonderful, extremely friendly and high paced - I even missed when my sandwich was ready because I didn't think my order could have been completed that quickly! Besides the sweet smoothie, the only other suggestion I have is that some of the chairs could use a slight upgrade (cracks with padding showing). Honestly though, it won't stop me from going back after work and dragging my fiance along with my this weekend to fully explore their tempting breakfast selection. read more

I'm writing an updated review. Things have improved in that I've found several tables available if I come after 10pm (though the seating remains unchanged). Unfortunately in the time that I've been coming to Coffeeology, the Internet has been chronically slow. In fact, I'm typing this review on my iPhone (the yelp.com page is still loading on my laptop using the Coffeeology wireless connection). 78 seconds to load Gmail! The girl next to me is also having the same issue. I know Coffeeology listens to their customers (the owner sent me an email to let me know they plan on improving the seating situation), I'm sure the chronically slow internet will be addressed in the near future. Short review: check this place out! Great interior, nice staff, good variety of drink options, and people seem to love the eats (I need to go back and order a meal)! There were lots of students doing work, so it was nice and quiet (although I was having a meeting). PARKING: If you are not walking, know there is a parking lot behind the strip for customers (turn by Chipotle) - originally, I parked on Tate Street in a 30 min spot (all spots looked to be 30 minutes max) but moved my car after learning about the parking lot. I went for a meeting with a UNCG student, and she ended up getting a ticket on Tate street...apparently the City of GSO parking enforcement does not mess around in that area! Tea: I am a tea drinker and ordered a black loose leaf tea with steamed milk...delicious in a nice, big mug! Definitely recommend. read more

This is a fun spot near campus with a coffee loving bunch of folks running the place. Nice variety of Hugh quality coffee drinks and options. Didn't try the Gelato or the food but looked good from what we saw around us. Free WiFi is a plus. Drinks and food are tasty and at fair prices, but if you're looking for a quiet-ish place to work, this might not be the spot. Granted, I was here on Saturday afternoon, and it was busy. Most customers were sitting quietly and working, but the staff carried on loud conversations and kept slamming the "Employees Only" door (which like, come on, you don't have to slam the door), and there was one person who was making loud and persistent volunteer-recruitment phone calls sitting near me. Obviously I know that the staff can't/shouldn't do anything to stop this, but it was super annoying from a customer standpoint. Once again, their food and drinks are really good and it would be a great spot to meet for coffee and maybe work is you don't have a lot of concentrating to do, but it really wasn't a good fit for someone trying to get a chunk of work done during the day. read more

I come to Greensboro several times a month. I used to visit Tate St coffee pretty regularly. It was my treat. Unfortunately, over time, I noticed negative changes at that establishment. (but I won't go into that now) So I decided to walk across the street to check out Coffeeology. I'm glad I did! I've frequented their shop at least ten times over the past six months, and realized... it's time for a review! I've visited on various days, and at various times. Always with the same positive results. My favorite drink actually isn't even coffee. It's a 'London Fog' which is Earl Grey tea steeped in steamed milk. They add a hint of housemade vanilla syrup to theirs. Deeelish! My husband has tried their pour overs w various coffees, also very good. Their baristas do it right. Coffeeology does their coffee very well. Fair prices too. They offer good, quick, and healthy breakfast and lunch items like wraps and bagels. Everything we've tried has been good. I particularly like the fresh rosemary bagels! Lots of seating. Free wifi. Clean bathrooms. Clean establishment in general. read more

There are two coffee shops on Tate Street, both are perfectly good when you need coffee - So - Compared to across the street - Coffeeology has much better iced coffee (cold brew), they don't carry the newspaper, it's about a third the size of the other place, they have a high chair(!), Coffeeology has outdoor seating, they've got Stevia, it's a lot quieter, there are way more outlets, less of a personality with its decor, there's a TV with close captioning on, there's a big communal table, and the staff is plenty friendly but smiles and sometimes even eye contact aren't a given and for sure no one's gonna be learning your name or anything any time soon. read more

Dear Coffeeology, I came into your shop around noon today. I ordered a coffee like usual, and asked the cashier about the patio furniture, because it was stacked up and not out. She smiled and said that she just walked in and wasn't sure. Then what appeared to be the manager on duty said, " it was sprinkling earlier." She then when about her conversation with an employee and was completely dismissive. An acceptable response would have been. "oh did it quit raining, I'd be glad to set the furniture out." Or, "could you give us a few minutes and we'll get to it shortly. But nothing near this was communicated. I was then handed my coffee, and I said, "so are you going to put out the furniture?" The "manager" then said to the guy working, "do you want to put out the furniture?" He too looked bothered by this simple task. What do you have 4 tables and 12 chairs? It would seriously take 2 minutes, tops! Now, I get her point if it was raining, but the furniture isn't covered by an awning so stacked or not the tables get wet. I used to work in customer service for years, and to my knowledge maybe the only time I have ever complained. I work at UNCG and will definitely be telling staff about this event. Consistency is king in customer service. Your customers expect tables to be out. I then walked around campus on my break for another 45 minutes, and the tables were still chained up, like your shop is closed, afraid to serve coffee on a cloudy day. If I was the boss of this worker, I would have fired her on the spot. You can do much better than that. I do not know the answer to this, maybe she was having an off day and is a superstar usually, but my intuition tells me differently. Maybe as her boss, you can let it slide, but it was enough for me to never return. Especially with Tate Street Coffee in close proximity, there is no real incentive to spend money at your establishment. read more

I did not have a good experience in your business this morning. I came in and was greeted by a rather rude employee who seemed to be unhappy and had a rather rude, condescending attitude and mannerisms. I also noticed one employee in the back playing on his phone who looked rather unhappy working on my order. Also had a weird interaction with another customer who didn't like me standing in front of the water cooler. I realize that had nothing to do with your bisiness but taken in whole, it was a rather unpleasant, very awkward experience. Probably wont be back. It was my first time in here, and the food was bought for my wife, which she did say tasted good. You guys should pay attention to the customer service and attitude of your employees. Great coffee shop off the UNCG campus. If you don't know about the history, it's a little messed up. The guy who opened it used to work at Tate Street, and long story short, he opened a coffee shop across the street, offering food and the ability to take debit cards (not offered at Tate Street). The food is pretty good, a small but very interesting selection. The coffee, tea, cider, and hot chocolate are all pretty banging. A lot of people love their gelato, too, but it's not really my thing. Because it's right next to campus, it's usually impossible to find a table inside in the day time, but it's perfect for getting coffee on the go. If you do get a table, it's a great place to hang out with friends between classes and grab some coffee and grub. read more
