I LOVE Cold Stone Creamery ice cream!!!!!! And I would love to have given it 5 stars, but maybe i should have given it 3, but I settled on 4 (decided to go with the average), why you ask, when I love the ice cream here??? The FREAKING SERVICE!!!!!! This kids think they are doing me a favor by serving me or even putting on pause their chat to attend to PAYING customers, emphasis on paying. But this location isn't the only one with this evil, I've been to 2 in Chula Vista, 1 in Coronado, 1 in Hillcrest and 1 in Mission Valley, and they all have the same problem. I have started to believe that when they hire new people, they how much they can ignore the customer. So if you want really good ice cream and can tolerate a bit of bad service (it ends in about 10-15 min), this is a place to come.... read more

This was the worst experience I've ever had at a CS. My mother and I were walking on the beach and wanted some good ice cream. We stumbled across the CS and decided to go in. Upon entering the store we noticed it was extremely hot and humid inside. Weird, it's about 75 degrees outside. A man walked out from the back and attempted to make a greeting. He was very business and not customer friendly. My mother ordered almonds and marshmallows in chocolate ice cream. He put the ice cream on the mixing counter (which has always been cold) and the ice cream began to melt. This means it's not a cold counter and it's so hot in the building that the ice cream literally begins to melt right away. (We were dropping swear by the time our order was finished). I ordered the peanut butter cup perfection. The guy mumbled something and I finally understood he was asking what size. I told him and said with a plain waffle cone. After he mixed around the ingredients in my melting ice cream we went back and forth on bowl/cone then he tried to get me to get a specialized cone. ALL I WANT IS A PLAIN WAFFLE CONE!! Finally I got my melting ice cream and paid. The register was across the room on another counter that the customer could not see. He walked over, pushed buttons, and came up with a price. I had no way of knowing what he punched into the register. My total was around $16 for 2 small ice creams. We left and talked about how sketch this place was for a solid 10 minutes. Sketch: -only one person working - hot as hell inside - hot ice cream mixing table - employee who mumbled and argued - register away from customer so you can't see what is going on with your money. read more

I usually LOVE Cold Stone - but my experience at this location has made me think twice about ever going back. There was only one person working so they were really understaffed for a Friday evening, so after waiting a while to get up to the counter we asked the worker what was going on. She said she was working alone which normally she wouldn't mind, but tonight she was sick and feverish so it was annoying for her to be there - gross experience #1. Who wants to eat ice cream that was served by someone who is sick and feverish?? Then we walk outside to eat it and 1 bite in I pull out a long piece of hair - gross experience #2. If the wait wasn't so long, we would've gone back in to complain, but didn't feel like dealing with it, so we tossed the $5 scoop of ice cream - what a waste! read more

Whenever I want to give a poor review, I always read through previous reviews to be sure I'm not doing something based purely on one freak incident. Based on what I've read below, I feel my review is valid. I entered at just past noon on a Wednesday to purchase five gift cards to be used as incentive prizes at my company. There was only one employee working and he was taking care of a family. Beyond them, I was the only other person in the shop. No problem so far. When he finished helping the previous guests he asked how he could help me. I told he I needed to purchase some gift cards. The employee didn't say anything to me, but he rummaged around in the cabinet under the register for a few moments. Then he went through door to to the back and came out a few moments later on his cell phone. After speaking to someone on the phone he put the phone away and came over to me and said, "Sorry, but we don't offer gift cards here. What you will have to do is go to another of the stores to see if you can get them there." Let me state here that as I'd entered the shop I looked for and saw a display on the very far left side of the counter advertising Cold Stone gift cards. In fact, there were gift cards on the display. I'd tried to remove them thinking that's where they are available, but there were just these two mounted on the display. So, his statement of "we don't offer gift cards here" was a lie, or nobody had bothered to remove the display that indicated that they do in fact offer gift cards when they no longer do. My real disappointment is that this shop must be poorly managed. There is another review of this location where the customer is denied use of a gift card. That reviewer states that the employee says something along the lines of "it's too expensive for us as a store to take part in the gift card program." If that's the case, why is there a display on the case showing they sell gift cards. If the shop was simply out of stock of gift cards, this is again a sign of poor management. Proper inventory levels are important for a well run and successful business. The thing that really bothered me is what the employee told me. Mind you, he was pleasant and friendly, but he words were poorly chosen. He said, "Sorry, but we don't offer gift cards here. What you will have to do is go to another of the stores to see if you can get them there." If he'd been properly trained he would have taken a different tact. To be really service orientated (and since there was nobody else in the shop but me) he should have said, "I'm sorry, but we are currently out of stock of gift cards. If you'd like, let me call the next closest location to see if they have any gift cards in stock before you waste your time." I was able to get Cold Stone gift cards at the Vonn's grocery store just down the street in La Jolla, so there is a happy ending on that front. I'm just disappointed that this store isn't better able to take care of its customers. read more

Love Cold Stone and this location! Near the beach in the village of La Jolla (UPSTAIRS though...) The service is great and the ice cream and for my friend (frozen yogurt) was even better! They make it fresh in the store and it is 100% customizable in front of you!! Don't go in if you are indecisive as there are too many options. I also like the fact that I can get a smoothie while my kids enjoy ice cream (or a churro sundae) Great ice cream, great location!! read more

We stopped by here for some dessert while walking through La Jolla. If you've been to one Cold Stone, you've been to them all. It's not bad, just not great. I prefer many of the local St. Louis ice cream joints (Oberweis, etc) to Cold Stone. I had peanut butter ice cream with reeses peanut butter cups. Yes, I love peanut butter. :) It was good, just not wonderful. Maybe I just wasn't that hungry having eaten dinner not too long before being there. Either way, Cold Stone is further down the list of places I enjoy going for ice cream. read more

I love their ice cream cakes. I get one every year for my birthday. My favorite is mint ice cream and chocolate cake, but switch the outside frosting to chocolate instead of the standard white. Yummy!!! read more

This is not a good place to get ice cream. They barely give you any and charge a lot. Cold Stone isn't the cheapest place to get ice cream, but the owner of this Cold Stone is incredibly stingy. They also only accept printed coupons, so don't bother bringing a screenshot from your phone like I tried to do. Their system is so out of date that I had to come around the corner to type my pin into their card scanner. All in all, there are much better places in La Jolla to get ice cream than this Cold Stone. read more

This location is disgusting. The bathroom was filthy. There was piss on the seat, toilet paper everywhere and it was clearly not clean. I called this Cold Stone to order a birthday cake for my mother-in-law. The girl who took my order told me that she would have it ready in a couple of hours. She proceeded to take my order and asked me what toppings I wanted, etc.,. She said the cake would be ready in a couple of hours. Approximately 90 minutes later, I received a call from another Cold Stone employee who told me that girl was new and there was no way the cake would be ready in two hours. He told me it would take at least 24 hours. Then the girl got on the phone to tell me she was new and had never made a cake before. I asked the manager why he had a girl working there by herself who wasn't trained and he said "because they had been slow." So I would advise you if you go to this Cold Stone to order a simple ice cream cone because they can't handle anything complicated. read more

Real bad experience. Lots of the ice cream containers seemed molten and looked unpleasing to the eye. Had cheese cake and chocolate and it tasted like "nothing".., flavorless, probably old or stale, I don't know. The guy also barely mixed any m&ms in there... Then after asking the guy to exchanging it for a different ice cream, his attitude was unfriendly and not accommodating at all, not even an apology. We were planning to grab some yogurt at Berries & Beans after grabbing a burger but apparently it went out of business. Walking back to our car, my nephew wanted to ride the escalator which happened to lead to a coldstone. We normally prefer Frozen Yogurt, however stopped in for some ice cream. The owner was very friendly and fun to chat with. Parking isn't the best if you are driving. If you are an ice cream fan and nearby I recommend stopping in. read more

For being in La Jolla, CA you would think this place would be run well and nice, boy was I wrong!!! This Cold Stone was beyond dirty and everything was falling apart. When you order something the guys look at you like they have no idea what you are talking about. You also can't tell which guys even work there because a few were dressed in workout shorts and random t-shirts. We ordered shakes and two of us received our straws and for the third straw -the guy had to go searching to find one. The Lotta Caramel Latte was superbly made, which is good because I've had it made poorly at another Cold Stone Creamery. Other family members had the sweet cream ice cream with blueberries, the chocolate ice cream with sprinkles, and root beer floats; everyone was very happy with their treats. The service was awesome, especially since we asked for so many things. It would have been easy to grow weary with such a big order - instead, there was nothing but smiles behind the counter. (To those who had poor service, I'd recommend trying again, these must've been the workers who replaced yours). Oh, and the music was great! read more
