The owners are sweet but the last few times I've gone a middle aged woman does my nails and she is SO rude. I literally just go to get a gel mani and she makes it such a miserable experience. Was very excited to go here after hearing good things. I regret everything. I called around 4:30 to make an appt for 6...told the woman on the phone what I wanted...they didn't even ask my name. So I go at 6 and it's packed to the brim. Eventually someone soaks my nails to get the dip powder off while I'm sitting in a barstool with my hands on a towel on my lap. Around 7pm I am seated and then promptly asked to move to another chair. Fine. The woman then begins my dip mani. Painful is the only word I can use to describe it. Using a nail file, she scrubs my nails and my cuticles raw. After two hours, these are the finished product. Sad. Maybe my nail tech would have cleaned them up afterwards had I not been in such a rush to leave (going stir crazy after two hours!!) but she had already moved on to the next girl - so I doubt it. So I had Gel X and asked them how much it would be for a fill and she said $83 which is pretty high but I said fine. Then I told her I had 2 nails I needed to fix bc they broke off. Then I asked for a design that had rhinestones on every nail and she said the total would come out to $140. I said that was fine because I understood rhinestones cost a lot and she had to fix 2 nails. She only put a tip on 1 nail bc the other broken one was long enough so I don't understand how my total came out to what it was. They were too aggressive with pushing back cuticles, despite me telling them to be gentle, and that traumatized my nail bed - needed to go to a podiatrist to get it fixed as my nails started growing funny, and it took a LONG time to get okay again. I went back to them recently in October 2022, hoping that was just a one-off incident, and the girl was super rough while shaping my toenails that the soft part underneath my nail start bleeding. I am very easy to please when it come to manicures, but I can't rate this higher than one star. And I've given them three tries just because of proximity to my apartment. This place does not use good quality polishes and on top of that they don't know how to file or shape. I had such a bad experience the first time I went paying $75 for a gel manicure design- the gel peeled off one day after I got it done and was already on my vacation. I went in and complained and they gave no refund, so they threw me another free regular gel manicure - FINE. So I decided to finally redeem this little makeshift "we owe you" and that took quite a long time. Finally got them and had to ask the girl twice to paint closer to my cuticle. She didn't listen and my nails look like they already have almost a week growth. I don't have pictures of the original gel but I do have of the new one and this place is a joke. Meh. Walked in for a gel mani. Wait was 25 min at 6:30 on a Monday. Shaping was good. Gentle. Woman asked me if I wanted strength coat for my gel, $3. I said sure. She did it. I've gotten gel plenty of times before, and I can promise you it was just the base coat. If you don't believe me, the bottle clearly had "base coat" written on it. So there's that. I asked for the Hailey Bieber nail. So did every other soul in the salon. I'm very original I know. For this they charge $55 (steep for gel in this area). Fine. They did the nail - doesn't look great but not worth complaining about. Color is see through. Not on purpose but because they only did two coats of a light color. Whatever. Polish came out pretty bubbly too. When I go to pay suddenly my total is $61. If you're following my story, $55 + $3 "strength treatment" aka base coat is only $58. Guess the other $3 is just for fun. No point in arguing about getting overcharged when there's a language barrier in my opinion. Go to pay - had to fight to pay in any other form besides card. It was a real battle let me tell you. Overall paid $75 with tip when I could've gone down the street and paid total $45 for a very similar look. Do with this info what you wish read more

This place did an okay job at my nails. However, the lady filed my nails so aggressively and wasn't even paying attention that it started to bleed. Now I have a scab on that cuticle area that's been there for a week. Also, the nail salon workers strongly wanted me to use cash however I had no cash on me at the time. I handed the lady my card and she walked away for a second "to grab the credit card machine." Then 2 days later, my credit card number was stolen and people were charging items to that card. I don't think it was a coincidence that my number was stolen. This place is very sketchy and people should avoid. read more

I have super mixed feelings. Their designs are unmatched and beautiful. The two main women that work there are very talented. The others are kind of sloppy. Also it can be very unprofessional at time. They don't reaLly respect reservations and you can be waiting an hour. Also they charge extra for everything and practically demand cash . Pros: cheap - regular polish manicure $14.50 Cons: no soaking dish so cleaning up my cuticles was a little painful, nail polish shows cracking and bubbles under the surface within 36 hours, watched them wipe off the tools with rubbing alcohol spray and hand the basket of tools to someone else to use (did not see them using a sanitizing machine like most other nail salons) Overall- I feel like I can't be mad because I paid $18 with tip (note I paid more than a 20% tip and had to pay before they even put paint on my nails- would not have tipped so high if I knew what my experience would have been). I saw all their cool nail art on Instagram and was so excited to get mine done. I had an appt and waited 45 minutes to be taken. Right before the design was about to go on my nail, my technician switched with another technician. This new technician claimed she knew what I wanted and started putting on the wrong design in the wrong color. Then, she told me a different price than what I was originally told. When I noticed a flaw in the design, she told me it was too late and started laughing at me for calling out the "stupid" flaw to the other technician...in front of my face. I used to LOVE coming here. I'd look forward to getting my nails done here. The first two times I came here, I had unbelievable service and prices. Ever since more people started hearing about this place, it has turned quite sour. Here is what happened during my last visit at Color Nails bar: 1. Waited 45 minutes to get seated when I had an appointment already 2. Woman made my cuticles bleed three times while she was doing them (she also spent way more than 10 minutes on my cuticles which really hurt me) 3. When filing my nails, she broke my pinkie nail and they made me pay to fix it 4. Was told my design wouldn't work when base was already done on my nail 5. Said it was going to be $49 and when I checked out it ended up being $56 6. A simple manicure took over two hours What happened is not rare. Multiple friends have been here and have experienced similar things that I have. I hate to leave such a harsh review but I believe it's important for people to know what goes on here. With all of this aside, the designs that they do and the work they produce is extremely impressive and gorgeous. I wish I could come back to this place and feel like it's worth it but I'm just not sure. read more

They're dishonest about their prices and will overcharge you. I came in and asked for a regular polish change and acrylic on a toenail. They told me $10 for hands, $15 for feet, and $5 for the acrylic. Then once I sat down and she's cutting and shaping my nails she tells me $1 for each service so she charged me $2 extra just to do the bare minimum trimming and shaping. Then she tells me $3 extra because I got a nail polish that lasts longer. Then at the end they charged me $6 because I used that nail polish for my hands and toes??? They charged me $10 extra. Honestly, I never leave bad reviews, but I'm pissed. I paid $156 dollars for my acrylic manicure. The actual service was ok, nothing special, but my nails were sloppy, bumpy and different sizes. The lady kept gluing my skin to the nail and forgetting to clean it up. There were two different flies in the uv drying machine and nails cuttings everywhere. To be clear, I dont have a very physical lifestyle and my first nail popped off in 3 days! By the first week, I've already had 7 nails fall off and I've left the city for the holidays, so I will not be able to go back to get them fixed, which I shouldn't have to do in the first place! I am so disappointed with this place. The first few times I went it was good (except for charging me more than they initially said) but this is the last time I will ever go here. I live in the area and was really hoping to make this my regular spot but they handled my situation so terribly. I went in for a gel manicure at the end of the week. The woman who did them seemed very irritated to be doing my nails and was rushing, but I tried to be understanding - it was getting close to closing time. About 4 days later, I noticed one of my nails started to chip. The next day, even more began peeling up and chipping. I also noticed the color was very different from when I left the salon - it had changed from a beautiful lilac to a dirty-looking pinkish white. I immediately called the salon and they told me to send them photos vis Instagram DM, which I did right away. Over DM, the salon asked a few questions, to which I responded, then they stopped responding. I called a few hours later because I hadn't received a response. They told me to come in at 8:30 that night so they could "take a look". When I went in, the woman told me I had clearly done something to chip my nails and change the color. She said "it could be makeup, clothes, cleaning, many things you don't even realize". This may be possible, but I work from home, don't wear clothes where the color could rub off onto my nails (like jeans), do not wear makeup, and don't clean my apartment (especially not with strong chemicals). I will also add that I have been getting gel manicures consistently for the past 5 years and something like this has only happened to me once before (a different salon did the right thing the last time and redid my manicure). I showed her the color it was when I left and she continued to insist that I had done something wrong. She told me she would put another coat (over my badly chipped nails) and it would be fine. I believe there is something wrong with the actual polish and told her I just wanted it to be taken off and a new, similar color to be put on. I don't trust that the same color wouldn't change the way this one did. After going back and forth for a few minutes, she told me she would fix my nails, but had to charge me. I am so irritated by the way they handled this situation. I like to get my nails done every few weeks and don't want to make this a weekly occurrence. I didn't want to be there at 8:30pm to get a new, free manicure. I simply wanted them to fix how terrible they looked after less than a week. There are so many places to get your nails done in New York City, and I can't patronize a place that blames customers, doesn't take responsibility, or rectify a situation. I was so looking forward to being a long-term customer of Color Nails but am very disappointed in their lack of customer service. I hope they will do a better job going forward but I would not recommend this place to anyone. Find a salon that actually treated their customers fairly and with respect rather than blaming them. They should learn the saying "the customer is always right". read more

I was thrilled when this place opened up near me. The first couple manis/pedis were great and lightening fast, but the staff has gotten sloppy. Now the chances of getting a solid mani/pedi that doesn't chip within the first day is about 50/50. They request payt before polish goes on for mani, so luck increases significantly with a 20% tip, or wait to tip until after polish is on. They also charge extra for Zoya polish. read more
