Tried this place for takeout tonight. It took a really long time to get our food and it wasn't that busy. What added to the frustration of the long wait was that two other groups that ordered after us got their food before we did. The fries and onion rings and hot dog were good, but both the burgers were a letdown. We had both a big burger and the boulder 1/2 lb burger, and both were very dry. Not over cooked, just dry. They tasted and had the texture of low quality frozen patties. We thought being a burger place that the burgers would be the best thing there, but the was definitely not the case. As much as I try to avoid burgers when I am in the mood for one there is no place in Fresno that can really match the Colorado Grill. This place makes everything fresh and it is never disappointing. A few of my male friends have come here with me and ordered their HUGE burger that has 4 patties on it...excessive but apparently it is awesome. For me a single is good enough. Fresh produce and condiments for your burger and the fries/onion rings are always fresh crispy and made to order. as others have said, this place is spotless. i swear i'd eat a fry i dropped on the floor. okay, maybe not. but you get the point, n'est pas? that's one star. the parking lot is private, but tiny, and really hard to maneuver in. i don't know if it's the size, shape or configuration of the lot, but its bizarre in some way i can't put my finger on. as other have said, the food is ridiculously good. everything is really fresh and incredibly delicious. all superlatives are applicable in the taste category. that's two stars. maybe three, but i'm pissed, so two. annnnnnd, the best for last. my husband and i have been going to the location at willow and barstow for years. as is customary, you order at the register, pay, leave your name, and find the perfect table where you wait for the friendly table service to slide that steaming burger and glistening fries under your greedy little nose. over the years, we have noticed that the man who takes our order NEVER uses my name. for example, we walk in together and order. i pay. he asks my name and turns to hand us our cups. handing our cups to my husband, he says 'and your name sir?'. my husband says 'oh you can just use her name'. i'm just standing there staring. not really believing that he's not going to use my name. the man says 'ok sure. (he smiles widely) and you are?' i'm still staring. my husband, having now been asked his name twice, feels obligated to respond with his name. let's use 'john' for my husband's name. the man writes 'john' on our ticket. and when the order is ready, he delivers it to our table and says ' enjoy, john!'. i'm not staring anymore. my eyes bug right out of their sockets, my teeth begin gnashing, and steam begins to curl from my ears. however, i still have a charming smile on my face. and my eyes, to the trained observer, are flashing with an oncoming tirade. so, i won't darken the door again because it happens habitually. and it bothers me. alot. someday, i'm going to go back in there and give that man a piece of my mind. you know i will, too. but there's just no getting around the fact that their burgers are fantastic. two stars it is. read more

First impression was not good, asked the guy behind the counter a perfectly reasonable question, and his answer was neither helpful or friendly. After we paid w cash I watched him proceed to turn around and throw our meat onto the grill, with his bare hands, without even washing them. Disgusting. Will never come back based on these factors alone. My suggestion to the owners, if you want to earn repeat business, give your employees a lesson in customer service and basic hygiene and food safety skills. Blech!! read more

After years of passing by, my family decided to try this place. Unfortunately, we had an awful experience here from the moment we walked in. The young lady taking our order was extremely rude. While ordering, she was mumbling under her breath and making faces. My husband asked how many sizes of drinks they carry and she proceeded to make a face at him as if he were stupid and said nothing. She lifted a stack of cups at him and slowly nodded as if it we had a hard time comprehending. After she took our order, our friend put his in. While he was ordering she had the same deminer. We all thought this was strange and let it go. Immediately after taking our order, another set of customers walked in, and WOW THE DIFFERENCE IN ATTITUDE. She had a smile plastered on her face and seemed very enthusiastic taking their order. This was shocking to us since we had received the polar opposite treatment. Later, while we were filling our drinks we notice people had cups of different sizes. Funny, because we asked this question and received no answer. But, we let it go. We sat waiting in the dining area for 30 minutes, waiting for our to go order. Finally, another worker came and asked us for our order name. There was no order with our name because it was put in under a different name, fine no harm no foul. When we get home our order was wrong. Myself, nor my family felt that the treatment we received from the young lady taking our order was warranted. We will not be back and I am highly disappointed in the customer service. I have eaten a lot of burgers in my life, it's my favorite food. I had high hopes for this place because the sign said "Gourmet Burgers". We ordered a Boulder Burger and Avocado Burger. Good fresh ingredients, too much lettuce, salad like. Lacked the essence of good condiments on both. The bun was dry with the texture of cheap white bread. If they added more condiment and a better quality toasted bun it could be a really good burger instead of average. Regarding the restaurant it was small and crowded. The specials were hidden behind the cashier which went un-noticed until we sat down and looked the place over. Friendly atmosphere, not gourmet. read more

Easily, hands down, the best burger in the Central Valley. I've had a lot of burgers in a lot places from New York to Austin to Chicago to Los Angeles, and seriously, this is in the top three burgers I've ever had. The reason? Simplicity and consistency. I eat here a lot and what always blows me away is the consistency. Without fail, it's perfectly executed and exactly what I expect. That level of consistency is very rare in restaurants and no matter who is running that line on any given day, it's simplicity executed perfectly. I think that is the main reason it's so great. They aren't reinventing the wheel; it's not gastro-pub niche like Kuma's Corner in Chicago or trying to upscale itself like Lugers in NYC. It's a simple, solid burger. Exactly what I think a burger should be. Always the Double Boulder Meal with Cheddar, no onions no pickles, add relish, and every time it's like a Xerox of my last one. And if it ever deviates, it's somehow BETTER than the last. Quality meat, perfectly seasoned, and the crust on the burger from the flat top is literally text book old school burger. No crazy toppings, just quality standard issue produce and condiments. They just nail that flavor profile of a "classic cheeseburger" and do it over and over and over again. I've worked in and ran a lot of kitchens, from fine dining to turn and burns, and it's honestly amazing what they kick out with that consistency. Chain restaurants spend millions in research and development to try and pull off what this burger joint in Clovis does effortlessly. Add to that the incredibly friendly service, absolutely nailing the picture perfect classic burger template, and you get a kick ass product. Yeah, it's a bit more expensive than In n Out and yeah, it might take a little longer, but that's the price of quality. I love this place. The steak fries are bomb. So are the curly fries. My favorite is the grilled spicy chicken sandwich. Especially when they add a little extra spice. Yumm. My fiance loves their burgers. He says that they have the best burgers in town. I have a friend who ordered a hot dog from there once and he thought it was great. Another friend of mine had their pineapple shake and he really liked it. I love the decor of the place: the little cars, the red booths, the coca cola collection.
