Dave Whispell is the guy to have come out and quote you on your HVAC project. In 2015 Columbia NW installed a tankless water heater, new furnace and new electric panel in our mid-century ranch-style home. We didn't have the money then to install central AC, but we made it happen this week and our home finally is nice a cool! I've had other companies provide quotes, but it never felt right and the decision was always to go with Columbia NW. Very knowledgable, always friendly, professional and fair. So much so, we're getting ready to relocate to a new property and will definitely have them help us with our next HVAC project.

Unit installed on a compact pad.

Martin came out for the initial inspection. The estimate was the least expensive of the 3 HVAC installers that we had look at our system. Due to the nature of our furnace, paying more was likely going to yield diminishing returns. Martin was a pleasure to work with and explained our options well. Jason and his team on installation day were tidy and friendly. Happy with the look of everything. We'll see how well everything works and holds up come Summer!

This is exactly what was on the side of the car that came to our home and tried to price gouge us.

Please see our response to their reply!! Home advisor said heat pump full installation would be $2,700-11,000 high end with average of $4,000-8,000. You can buy full systems for $3,000-4,500. They quoted us $12,000-15,000 and everything is already ran for ductwork, etc. asked about Geothermal heat pump but home advisors says $3,000-25,000 high end and he quoted us $35,000. Very frustrating when you feel they are trying to rip you off just because you have a nice home. He was very nice, here on time but it we are disappointed. Also, he kept telling me running auxiliary heat was the same as a regular electric furnace - no, it is not, you are using 4-5 times the electric to use the heating coils in heat pump. . Welp, getting a fireplace put in for $5,000. $150-200 for regular electric heat or $400+ for auxiliary. Also, said the heat pump would be around $30 month to heat our home - only forgot to mention the $200 month heat pump financing payments would bring a usual $113-160 bill up to $230ish. Please base your price on the product and not the cost of the home and remodeling done. Now we understand why we couldn't get a quote based off the size of our home. Sigh. In reply to the response: you are blatantly lying!! We live in Rainier, Oregon and my husband is Ian. I would take a picture of your business card but we threw it away after you tried to price gouge us. I would highly suggest you check those records again. I'm not putting my physical address here but YOU DID COME HERE! I haven't confused any company. Review updated from 3 down to 1 after trying to call us liars. Now I'm upset. Oooh, but I did manage to find an appointment CONFIRMATION. I removed all personal information. Now Keep better records and don't call people liars. Your technician DID provide ranges and did try to price gouge us. I don't lie.

From the estimate that wasn't clear to the install that was far from code. They didn't listen to my concerns.

He even sent a text the next day saying he had an opening that day, but I had a medical appt and I couldn't make it happen. We had good communication over text and then during his visit he went above and beyond to fix our problem. I had to work and couldn't be home, but my 24 year old son was at home. He invested a great deal of time to ensure things are done proper in order to pass inspection. The result of his work is impeccable and has made me one extremely satisfied customer. He has earned my trust, and therefore I will use him again. To Erik: I appreciate your work; thank you!

Better Air Northwest sent out an estimator (Eric) for free. He was really nice, helpful, and figured out how to solve our issue for a reasonable price! We received the estimate per email a couple days later and unlike other companies, no pressure was put on us to approve the job right away - instead we were given as long as we needed to discuss and ponder. As soon as we approved the estimate, we were contacted so we could get on the schedule. Somehow Edgar and Juan asked and also answered all the questions at the very beginning and we were able to do other things while they did these 2 jobs like the true professionals they are. They started by taping everything in the room with the closet, and it kept everything so clean! (Although they did clean up after - and left the place tidier than it started haha - not even kidding they cleaned our doormat I forgot to clean prior to their arrival!) The attached pictures were provided by them and show the beautiful job they did! But I've seen other little touches that proof they are all about getting the job done right. Could not have hoped for better - I would hire them and Better Air Northwest again anytime for any job they perform!

I was impressed by the process from start to finish and the noticeable difference in air quality afterward. The scheduling process was easy and transparent. I called on a Tuesday, and they were able to fit me within two weeks. The office staff clearly explained the pricing structure (which was fixed based on the size of the house, with optional add-ons like dryer vent cleaning) and sent a confirmation text the day before. The technicians, Andreas & Cody, called me 50 minutes before arrival, right arrived pretty close to the promised time. I knew there was construction down the street so I figured they would be delayed due to stopped traffic. The two arrived in a well-marked truck and was immediately professional. They took time to explain the negative pressure vacuum system they use, which involved hooking up a large hose to the main duct trunk near the furnace. They wore boot covers inside the house, which I appreciated. The cleaning itself involved systematically sealing off all registers and then using powerful air whips into each vent to agitate and loosen all the debris. They showed me the incredible amount of dirt, dust, and junk they removed from the main trunk--it was genuinely shocking and visually compelling. When finished with the vents they took on the dryer. The lint cleaned out of the vent and the filter was surprising. I expect the drying cycles will be quicker with a clean system. The entire process took approximately 5 hours. Once finished, they sealed up the access holes they created cleanly. There were only two rooms where they forgot to move furniture back in place. The immediate difference was significant: the air in the house feels fresher and less "stuffy," and the HVAC system runs noticeably quieter. I am confident that the removal of years of dust and allergens will benefit our household, especially during allergy season. Better Air Northwest delivered exactly what they promised: professional service, clear communication, and excellent results. I highly recommend them if you are looking to improve your indoor air quality.

Fortunately for everyone it was an easy repair and I had cold air coming out if my vents again. They fixed an aging air conditioner and fairly recently replaced my gas furnace and air conditioner. It was 29 degrees the day of service and I offered to postpone the service. They came anyway. They came a year later to do a courtesy check on the furnace and decided to wait for the check on the air conditioner when it would be more obvious that it was working as it should. Before they installed the new equipment I had asked if they would install an automatic cutoff device on the gas in case of an earthquake. They said they don't usually do that and I was okay with that. Then they called and said they had found the device and would be happy to install it. Recently I noticed that I had a lot of cold air coming in the cabinet above the stove microwave. I had had my roof replaced by Evergreen Renovations and Roofing and suspected that they hadn't hooked up the ducting and vent correctly. I had called the roofer and was told it wasn't their responsibility to hook it up but they would do it as a courtesy if the ducting was flexible. Western Heating and Cooling shared my thought that if you unhook somethinbg, you should reattach it. I didn't know who to call but I asked Western Heating and Cooling if they could check it out. While the roofer showed me a photo of a rigid ducting, the HVAC people showed me a photo of the ducting with a large hole in it. Once again, the weather wasn't ideal for them coming out. It was supposed to get to 102 degrees and I was concerned about their safety in my attic. They still came out, fixed the problem and even did some nice work inside the house around the duct in the cabinet above the microwave. I was thrilled. I asked if that job was something they would usually do and was told that, no, it wasn't. but they would do what need to be done to help me. They are polite and thoughtful about my property and keep me updated as to when they are going to arrive and, unless, there is a problem on the road, they have been prompt. I have recommended Western Heating and Cooling to many people and would highly recommend it to anyone needing their services.

I'm not a big reviewer, but I had a very not good experience with this very highly rated business…read moreand I feel like warning others is appropriate. We recently purchased a home. The sellers had installed 2 new direct-to-consumer brand (Zokop) heat pumps with 4 heads (2 for each) in the home roughly 1 year ago (they are not providing records, but this is a reasonable estimate). After move-in, we noticed an error on the head unit in our son's room. Precision had previously repaired a broken AC at my small business 2 years ago. It was a good experience then, so I was excited to hire them again. They sent 2 technicians to our house, Edgar and Dylan, to service the units and diagnose. Long story short: Dylan broke the fan in one of the good units, which was maybe a year old (per Edgar's estimation based on some technical detail about Freon...you'd have to ask him) and previously working perfectly. He stuck a probe thermometer in the unit to check its efficiency and then caught the fan blade with it as he pulled it out. There was a CRUNCH and 3 bits of plastic fell out. He said "what was that?" and otherwise shrugged it off. No apology. No taking of responsibility, no solution or assessment offered. Completely unprofessional. I stayed calm, paid for their service, and got them out of my house. They assessed the issue with the other unit to be a Freon leak and quoted for repair. Shortly afterwards, I did a small amount of googling and concluded it was likely the fan. The following week, their office called to schedule the leak repair and I asked to speak to the service manager. His name is Wendell. He asked for a photo of the broken pieces (same one I'm posting here) as well as a photo of the label on the unit, which I also provided. He said he'd see what he could figure out. 1 week went by, I called back, he said he couldn't find anything about the unit or source parts, but if I find the part, they could install it. Not a good solution. I stayed calm and said I would think about it. Here's the thing, I'm also a repair-based contractor. Sometimes, I make a mistake and break something. We're all human, but our mistakes are our responsibility. I can't imagine breaking a customer's perfectly good thing and then just acting like, well, nothing I can do. Total BS. You can't find the part? Buy us a new unit. Too expensive? File an insurance claim. You came into my house, broke a new, working thing, and then left me high and dry. Completely unacceptable. Anyway, I thought about it, decided I don't want these clowns in my house again, and I don't want to keep asking them to act like adults with a sense of responsibility. I hired another company to fix the freon leak. They charged $100 more than what Precision quoted me but also did the assessment and repair the same day. That technician verified these pieces are from the "blower wheel," which is just another word for fan. I still have not resolved the issue with the fan Precision broke. They have a responsibility to make this right, but I'm sure it's on nobody's to do list. Maybe they read their reviews?
