My parents raved about this place so I figured I give it a try since it is on my way home from work. A little disappointed because it was not the best broken rice dish I've eaten. Heck- it wasn't even mediocre- it was kind of bleh. I ordered the rice with BBB pork chop, egg cake, fried shrimp cake and shredded pork skin. It was a pretty small portion compared to other places and the price was higher too charging $11.00 for the meal. It comes with a side of broth (like most places). The egg cake has a strange texture to it and flavoring was a bit bland. BBQ pork chops needed a little more marination. Fried shrimp cake was too chewy for my liking. I think they need to rework and refine the food a little more if they are going to charge above market value price for the food. I am not as impressed by them as my folks are I guess. read more

We have been here twice so far. They have the best Pork Vermicelli (Bun Thit Nuong) we have ever had! We have tried their #45 (Pork & Shrimp Vermicelli) and # 47 (Pork & Egg Roll Vermicelli) (both were $12.75), which were perfection on both visits! Their grilled pork was so soft, juicy, and flavorful, with hints of lemongrass and chargrilled flavor. The vermicelli bowls had lots of shredded fresh lettuce and vermicelli, and their scattered basil leaves, ground peanuts, and fried shallots really enhance the overall flavor. Their fish sauce has perfect amount of sweetness and saltiness, but I asked for extra fish sauce, because the usual amount was not enough to adequately flavor the large amount of vermicelli and lettuce. We also tried the broken rice with grilled pork (com tam thit nuong). It came with the same delicious pork as in our vermicelli, in addition to pickled cabbage/carrots. The com tam was delicious but was not as filling or as satisfying as the vermicelli bowl. The waitresses were all very nice. The restaurant is small, but we noticed that they handled a lot of carry-out orders as we were eating. The prices at most Vietnamese restaurants in Little Saigon have been skyrocketing and getting way out of control in the past year, so we hope that this place will keep their prices reasonable, so that we can come back frequently for dine-in or carry-out pork vermicelli! read more

Com Tam here is good compared to many places. Theres so many ways you can custom it adding and subtracting what you dont like, which is awesome. (Always add an egg, you'll thank me later) Pho here isn't as good, broth was okay, a little bland and the noodles to me were undercooked. For my first visit I have to say their Com Tam dishes are impressive. You must try the tht nng (grilled BBQ pork) as one of the meat selection to their Com Tam combo. It seriously taste almost as good as Mom's homemade version. What sets this place apart from the others is the fact that they charcoal grill their tht nng so you get the smoky taste with the slightly burner edges. It's such a forgotten nostalgic taste that left me in bliss. Most Com Tam eateries will fry instead to save time. I also don't care that the portions here is reasonable for single serving because I'll always choice quality over quantity. I get that Com Tam places has built a reputation on portions big enough to feed a family of four but the trade off is settling for mediocre food. I came here last week with my family and we felt so uncomfortable dining there. This place is dirty and smells weird. Food was okay but service was so bad. The workers here look lost and just stand in the back to gossip. The lady standing near the front register was rude and kept making rude remarks to her employees and I can even hear her talking bad about customers. I wanted to like this place, but very disappointed in the portion to price ratio. For about $11, I got more rice than any of the proteins I ordered (Thit nuong, cha, tau hay ky). I ordered to-go so I didn't see my wonderful surprise until I got home. Thit nuong(grilled pork): I received 3 little strips of meat that was equivalent to 1/2 stick of thit nuong you'd get from the street markets or festivals. Flavoring was okay - it was kind of salty and didn't have much flavor as your Thit nuong should Tau hu ky (shrimp party wrapped in bean curd): at first I thought this was a good regular portion but the shrimp patty is actually half of the size. So I guess they folded the bean curd into a rectangle but only filled it with shrimp party like a square (if you can picture that). Cha (steamed pork/meat pie): tiny triangle of it. This was my most liked protein out of the entire plate. It was okay. Vietnamese iced coffee: they did NOT fill my cup all the way (left about 1/4 empty) and my SO told my it was only 1/4 coffee and 3/4 ice.... but we didn't want to be rude and cancel the coffee after we saw that. I could've gone to Lee's and paid the same price for more coffee :( This restaurant should work on their portions and quality to ensure it reflects the price of the food they're offering. I'm usually not a fan of Vietnamese restaurants because I eat Vietnamese food so much on the daily. Almost every time I am at a Vietnamese restaurant, my order is usually a broken rice plate. This place was different. I absolutely LOVE this place. The authenticity is unbeatable. The meat is actually grilled and the rice was of great quality, unlike many Asian restaurants. I would give them 3.5 stars, but 4 stars because I hope it'll give them the incentive to make things better. The quality of the food is great. The sauce for the com tam was perfect. Unlike other com tam places where they go for quantity over quality. However, I wish they could lower the price a little bit to adjust to the small portion they give. I love smaller portions because I don't feel so overwhelmed and if the quality is great, then I would go for it. Though the price just need to be a little lower, $9 for a com tam plate is a bit pricy in my opinion. My favorite place for com tam! Every dish here is fresh and good. Their meats juicy and has a nice grilled taste. Love their Cha(meatloaf). It's very soft and fresh. Most places are dried or crusty and theirs are just right amount of meat and eggs. I also love their grilled chicken. Not dry at all and very flavorful. I can't complain about anything. Love this place too much. You can't go wrong eating here. I've been eating here for two years and I would not order my rice anywhere else. read more

I used to love the place but decided not to come here anymore Food is 3.5/5 since the taste is pretty fine. The environment 4/5: clean, that the most important fact. Service 2/5: this is also the reason i put 2 star since i always saw the same servers every times i came here. We tried this broken rice restaurant last weekend. We agreed with the other yelpers regarding their meats are fresh and they didn't cook the meat ahead before you order. We like the taste of their food and it is better than some other places, however, I took off one star off due to the prices. All of their main dishes are a couple dollars higher restaurant. Another star off due to they do not give enough rice for the amount of meat on the plate. I usually can never finish my plate at other com tam places. Here, I finished all the rice in my plate and still have lots of meat left. We may think twice about coming back to this place. read more

Whenever I come home to visit my parents, I always try to load up on Vietnamese food since it's meh and overpriced in the Bay Area. Usually my mom cooks everything, which is why I was surprised to hear her recommend going to this restaurant for lunch. Considering it's on the outskirts of the main Little Saigon drag, yet can still garner a wait, I knew it had to be pretty good. My go-to dish is always the thit nuong, and this place delivered. It was charred, it was marinated, it was the right cut and texture. I also had an order of the egg rolls on the side, and those were fine. The egg cake, bi, and fish sauce were all solid. Service was fast and efficient, and when we brought up that there was an error in our order, they quickly fixed it without giving you the attitude that other Vietnamese places often have. The only thing is that my mom complains that it is pricey - it's about $9-11 for a plate. But then I remind my mom that in the Bay Area, they charge that amount for a lousy banh mi sandwich, so she gets that everything is relative and that this place makes me happy.
