We've used Commander Moving 3 times now and they've been excellent each time. Our most recent move was earlier this week. They called a few days ahead to confirm the appointment so we knew they hadn't forgotten about us. Our movers were Reggie, Sammy and Dominic - they were both strong and professional. They handled the job like it was nothing. They moved our 2 bedroom apartment into the van in an hour - which includes going down 3 flights of stairs and wrapping all of our furniture. I was nervous they wouldn't be able to fit everything into our storage unit but again, they handled it without a problem. David, Reggie, and Jose were very professional, fast, friendly, and made sure everything was wrapped and secure. The whole move only took a few hours (2br/1bath). Wow. We totally lucked out. We got these three incredible guys: Libor, Dallas and Rory. They tirelessly (and quickly) moved us into a really difficult new building, didn't damage a single thing, and kept us all in good spirits. We appreciated how they didn't complain about our total disarray and worked with us to get everything done seamlessly. Barry in the office was extremely helpful, and scheduled the move with no fuss, and followed it up with a call the day before to check everything was still on. The move itself was great, Samy and Dom were extremely quick and professional. They showed up on time, were very efficient with the packing and moved everything quickly. They've clearly done this before and have it down to a science! Commander Moving was fast AF and super friendly and nice to work with. They moved us out on a holiday weekend (July 4th) and even arrived early. Our move involved a ton of stairs and narrow hallways, and they were unbelievably fast. Our furniture and definitely-way-overstuffed boxes were moved in record time, and the guys were very very careful with everything. Nothing was damaged, and they really had a handle on things the entire time. What was extra helpful was that they provided the hanger boxes to simply move clothes hangers straight from our closet into the box, and back onto the new closet which was such a helpful touch. Moving is stressful as is it especially when moving long distance from Oakland to Palm Springs. The guys at Commander took that stress away with speed and care. Here's how it went down. Went online to submit a request. Next day I got an email to schedule an in person estimate. Then Karel, the owner, came on his birthday to do a walkthrough and give us an estimate. Then scheduled a load in and delivery date. Load in took less than an hour to pack a 3 story, 2 bed/2bath town home (granted we packed and staged everything on out own well in advance. The following day the load out took less than an hour. Karel, if you read this, Rory, Vlad, TJ and Ross were exceptional! I met Rory and Vlad in Palm Springs for the load out and they did everything with such ease and speed it's hard to believe that our move has completed in such a short time. Also Erin and Amanda kept in constant communication throughout the entire process - especially when we kept changing destination location at the last minute. We'll miss Oakland and driving past your warehouse everyday on our way to work. It was great to see a local business grow. 5 Starts Isn"t Enough!!! From the initial call with a friendly young woman (who I sadly can't remember her name) to the finally signature after an unbelievable move - THIS COMPANY IS INCREDIBLE. They sent out JULIAN to give us a FREE ESTIMATE on our move. He was quite professional and friendly and took a look around the house to determine how many people it would take to move us - and what size of truck to use. 1st of all, RORY, AMOS and ROSS arrived on time after a weather challenging drive from Oakland to Union City. They were friendly, professional, efficient and more than knowledgable in their trade. They moved us from a 3 bdrm 2 bath home filled with heavy furniture, a piano, an elliptical exercise machine, patio furniture and a grill. Everything was professional wrapped in blankets and then plastic wrapped for further safety. They were able to do all of this even in the middle of a storm! We've never seen 3 people work so hard and so well as a team. They even respectfully worked around my 85 year old mother who isn't very mobile, waiting till the very last moment to move her chair. (Her chair was the 1st to be unpacked at the new house for her consideration). Nothing was damaged in the move even though they moved quickly. After everything was in the new place, they cleaned up all the plastic, tape etc, leaving no trace behind. RORY, AMOS and ROSS made our move (along with everyone else behind the scene) absolutely effortless. The communication from the office all the way to the actual movers was clear and honest. In fact, the estimate was higher than the actual cost. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS MOVING COMPANY and wish them many years of success!! read more

This was the first time I've ever used a moving company (living away from family means no more free help) and I was hesitant to say the least. I had been in contact with several companies and was having a hard time accepting what it was going to cost me. Amanda, the Office Manager, was extremely helpful and prompt with all of our exchanges (both via phone and email). She did not try to get me to add unnecessary expenses and broke everything down for me. Very professional and friendly. Rory and Amos are nothing short of god sends. I was very nervous about having strangers move my belongings and a crying mess that morning, to be honest. They communicated with me about how they were doing, reassured me whenever I started questioning what entrance/route/etc. and were very efficient! The job was estimated to take 4-5 hours, but they got it done in 3 on the dot. We moved a 2 bedroom townhome into a 1 bedroom apartment on the other side of Oakland, both with different parking and difficult entrances/stairwells. It was worth every penny. He and Jesse met my boyfriend at our (now former) house, packed the truck in 30 mins. Made it out to me in Albany, had it all unloaded and unwrapped in 30 mins. Were very professional and courteous. I was mostly outside watching the truck and street scene, but after they left I noticed they had taken care not to lean anything against the walls, very thoughtful. Just used Commander for the third time on Friday. They have been amazing every time! Rory and Amos arrived 10 minutes early and handled everything super professionally. We moved from a one-bedroom apartment to a two-bedroom condo, and they were done within four hours. Our apartment complex wouldn't allow us to use the loading dock, but the movers were able to still move everything, and we had some very heavy items. I'm not sure what to say. I can't say they didn't work hard but I wouldn't recommend this moving company to someone else. They showed up on time, surveyed my place and then went to the bathroom. The guy basically blew up my bathroom and then closed the door to trap the smell. I had them move 1 bed (with mattress and minor assembly/dis-assembly) an empty bookcase, 1 tall 5 drawer dresser, a small dining table, two dining chairs, one boxed up media unit and about 12-15 boxes (varied sizes and weights). I had read how quick and efficient they were and thought it would take 30 minutes at most to get it all loaded. Nope it took them 1 hour and 15 mins to pack it all up and head out. I drove ahead to my new place to wait for them and make sure that the path was clear for them. I waited 45 mins to an hour for them before they showed up. I got a phone call that they were running late because they had to stop for gas. Ummm...they're a moving company, isn't making sure they have a full tank of gas before they show up to your place a part of the job??? They then unloaded as slowly as they had loaded and managed to drop one of my boxes. That broke my french press. Not a big deal but not cool either. I was disappointed to say the least. I was expecting a lot more form all the great reviews. I guess you can't be great all the time and I was just the unlucky one. read more

THESE GUYS ROCK!!!! We made a local move 3 weeks ago and after reading Yelp reviews, booked our move with Commander moving a few weeks prior to moving day. When we had called, JULIAN came by our place to check out how much they would be moving from furniture to boxes to fragile items. He provided a quote on the spot and assured us that we would not be charged more than the quoted amount even if the move took longer than he estimated. We got such a good vibe that we booked on the spot! A few weeks later, 30 minutes earlier than scheduled, we got a call from the moving crew that they would be arriving shortly. JAIME, VICTOR, and ROCKY arrived early and got right to work. We moved from a 3 floor town home to a 2 floor home and these guys rocked out the move! The hit the ground running as soon as the truck engine was turned off and didn't stop until we were well settled into the new home Not only did these guys bust ass to get the job done, they did it care, efficiency and even some entertainment tossed in! They did great with our dog and our kids, disassembled/reassembled furniture, moved a huge amount of boxes, etc and all while smiling, joking and having a good time working. They wrapped each piece of furniture so that it wouldn't get damaged. We've moved 4 times in 4 years and man do I wish we had found these guys when we did our first move! I could totally go on and on about what a great job these guys did and how easy they made this move for us, but you've read the reviews, why haven't you booked these guys for your move yet??? :) You certainly won't be disappointed! This is my first Yelp review and it couldn't go to a better company. I cannot say enough good things about Commander Moving. I was graduating from a masters program and moving back to LA. Karel came out to give me an estimate for an intrastate move from Berkeley to Los Angeles. He was pleasant, polite and accommodating and came up with an estimate that seemed very fair. Knowing I was on a budget, he even offered to see if he had any used boxes to keep my expenses down. Each interaction I had with him was pleasant and professional. The movers, David, Mike and Barry, were all equally polite, friendly and professional. Although it took longer than anyone had expected to get things packed and loaded (as happens often with moves,) I was not charged any extra fees. The move in to my townhouse went smoothly and all of my sentimental and fragile things arrived safely, including the top of my parents wedding cake from the 1940s and Minton china that my father had sent to my mother during WWII. The only negative was that a number of heavy boxes were accidentally put in the wrong rooms and I couldn't move them myself. That was quickly remedied when I called Karel, and within 2 days, Barry, Mike and David, who were in LA doing a move, came to correct the locations of the boxes. I cannot express how amazing this moving company was for us! They made our first move in ten years SEAMLESS. From start to finish the guys were professional, efficient and fast. Not to mention, really nice people. Alan, Doug & Rocky were absolute moving superstars and I'm so glad we chose Commander. Moving from Concord to Napa- they loaded our 2 bedroom house + our detached garage in 2.5 hours, arrived at our new 2 bedroom second floor condo promptly (40 miles aways) and unloaded just as fast. Our furniture was all wrapped and packed perfectly, no damage whatsoever upon arrival. In fact, none of our belongings were harmed at all- they took genuine care and even listened when I asked them for special attention to certain incredibly fragile items.
