We had a 6pm reservation and we were seated promptly at a corner table. The place has a romantic vibe and the noise level was low. Perfect for when you want to dine in peace. Our waitee came over shortly to take our drink orders. They gave us 2 different menu versions as mine didn't have the prices but his did. I had a glass of cabernet and my husband had a nice cocktail to start. We shared the crab cake (pan seared, with citrus salad, lemon remulade and pickeld red onions. My husband also got the French onion soup because he likes French onion soup and he said it was great. The crab cakes were delicious and flavorful. I enjoyed every bite! I had the ribeye prepared medium rare and my husband had the salmon. We also ordered the brussel sprouts and creamed spinach sides to share which were all lovely and well seasoned. My steak was prepared the way I asked for it to be and our dinner proceeded smoothly. Our waiter came and checked on us regularly to make sure we were well tended to and got us another round of drinks. I was unfortunately too full for dessert which is unusual as I always try to have dessert on Friday nights. However, getting full on a fantastic meal was not something I regretted. The server gave lots of excuses, mostly "there was a big top in the bar room" but for the cost of the meal, that's not really an excuse. Especially when the restaurant wasn't full and we had made a reservation. We literally talked about getting up and walking out at one point. There was another couple that had an 8PM reservation, and they were getting the same courses as us, but before us. There was also a Gentleman that sat next to us who came in around 8:30, had three courses, and was out within an hour. This is St. Louis. The other few restaurants in the region at that price point have been white glove. Never an empty glass, attentive service, never waiting between courses. However, on another visit I didn't think the Sheppard's Pie was as good as it used to be and was somewhat smaller too although it's just big enough to qualify as a meal with me but I'd only give 3 stars for this dish and it has a mix of lamb and beef and the flavor of the beef kind of wins out sadly but it's still savory and tasting well, it's just not nearly as good as some others I've had. Also, I had the scotch egg for an appetizer and I think it's still very good and it's basically a hard-boiled egg that's wrapped in ground sausage, then breaded and deep fried. It's served with a sauce and is delicious. The atmosphere at the Scottish Arms is wonderful and feels fairly authentic for a British/Irish pubs and it's still one of my favorite places to go in St. Louis and the waitstaff were great on both of my visits. I loved being able to have a Perennial Abraxis ale that's one of my all time favorite beers while dining there. I'll look forward to stopping by for a Guiness sometime soon as well and try something else new and that'll probably be the bangers and mash.
