After spilling a glass of water on my macbook pro (or as I like to call it, my LIFE), I was sure there was no way I'd get my computer back with all my photos, documents, music, etc. intact. I was feeling especially down after making an appointment, going to the apple store, and being told abruptly that "we don't do data recovery here" and that the hard drive and therefore all my stuff would simply be replaced. The "genius" who didn't even touch my computer or confirm that it was in fact water damaged was rushing to get to his next customer. He did, however, print me out a list of places where I could potentially get my computer looked at. I'm so glad I chose computech from that list. I worked with Ryan, who provided truly excellent with customer service and within a week I had my computer 100% back to normal WITH ALL MY STUFF ON IT. The price was way more affordable than what it would've been at the apple store and DID I MENTION I GOT ALL MY STUFF BACK. Seriously I turned on my computer and it was like I never left. After the apple store told me my computer's logic board had failed, I rushed the computer over to computech to get it fixed within 2 days. Computech did tests on the computer and turns out it wasn't the logic board just loose RAM. They called me early in the afternoon the next day, and didn't charge me anything. They saved me having to pay a lot of money and wait days for me to get my computer back. Hopefully nothing else will go wrong, but I'm definitely taking my computer here first if anything does! read more

When my computer got sick the other week, this mom of a toddler iBook G4 (he's only 4!) didn't know what to do. So after speaking with my boyfriend, we came to a consensus after looking at the yelp reviews, to take wee Mackie to Dr. Computech. I had first gone to the Apple Store, and like Robin Y., had been told it would take at least a week for their employees to assess the damage, and cost a minimum of $150. Well, I said thank you, but i'll keep looking, then headed home and found Computech on Yelp. They were helpful over the phone, so I brought it in to their shop in Culver City. It ended up being a very simple issue. The inverter board needed to be replaced, and Computech told me 2-4 business days for turn-around, but it was only 1 1/2 days, and definitely cheaper than Apple. Fantastic! And the on-call "doctor", Michael, was so knowledgeable, communicative, friendly, and honest. He explained all the things it could possibly be when I first brought it in, then explained everything he did when I picked it up. Thanks, guys! I'll happily refer my friends to you. read more

Visited the store on Oct 4 2012. Using an old Powerbook G4. I stepped or kicked on my power adapter that was plugged into the UPS sitting on the ground. Which broke the duck head plug attached to the power supply/adapter. Since my battery was dead my laptop can only be turned on plugged in. Online prices for duck head plug $3-8. Called in and talked to Ryan who said they had one and it would cost $5. When I got to the store Billie gave it to me free. Yippie! Gave them my broke part for ewaste. Total length of time for visit was under 4 minutes. Very customer-friendly staff. Will definitely be my go to place for Apple and Mac fixes. Parking was so so meaning there are a lot of stores and offices in that plaza that have reserved over 50% of the parking spaces. read more

My computer is saved!! I was sent here BY THE APPLE STORE as their top recommended third party service store. The guy at apple told me my hard drive was definitely out, and that it would cost almost $700 to replace through them. Luckily, he was nice enough to recommend I visit Computech, where I found out that the Apple store guy was wrong in his diagnosis. Ryan clearly explained my options and the prices that went along with each of them, and I ended up doing a diagnostic to determine whether my issue (MacBook Air on permanent gray screen for startup) was a hardware or software issue. Lucky for me, it turned out to be a relatively easy fix and $180 got me my computer and saved my data! Had I listened to the Apple guy, I would have been out a lot more $$ and wouldn't have even fixed the correct problem. Computech knows their stuff. 3rd time into Computech Repair & Recovery Services. They are very busy so your job will sit in their queue unless you pay them extra for a quicker turnaround time, which is fair to a certain degree. Our job was finished a day later then proposed and they also missed the cleaning of the computer which was written on the order, and important to me. (Details) They kind of slim/slammed the job out the door due to their busy schedule and I don't care for that kind of service. The offer was made to clean the computer if I hauled it back. (Mac Pro Tower loaded and heavy) Apparently their time is more valuable then their clients. Didn't offer a small discount or to come pick it up. They preferred to lose a client and his recommendation rather then doing their job and not working to correct their own mistake. Fine... D- read more

Once they have you set up, the support is weak at best. They want the money and run. They don't return calls, they don't answer emails. Any response you do get is feeble at best and you have to ask your question several times in several ways just to get something that remotely looks like a solution. They drop the ball big time. Took an external hard drive to be recovered, Even told them that the drive was mounting, was taking too long for my client to retrieve the files and he wanted to have it done faster. Paid $90 for the service and took another external HD to have the data transferred in. They called me back a few days later saying that the data on the bad drive was retrieved, but the spare hard drive that I gave them was bad. Drove there and gave them another external hard drive (Took the one they told me was bad home and tested just fine and I am using as it now). A few days later they called me again to say that my new external drive I took there to have the data transferred was bad as well. Got the third external drive there. A few days later they called me to and left a message saying that was not possible to retrieve the data from the original drive, the service would only cost what I already paid for. Went there and try to reason with attendant, but the end result was not going to change. Drove to my thinking how to give them the bad news since a few weeks before the news were different. Upon my arrival I decided to give the last shot on the situation. Went online and purchased Data Rescue 4 for $99.97 and started the process of restoring the data. After five (5) days of running unattended, the software restore the entire drive. Call back Computech, explained what happen and asked for discount on their poor service. The attendant told me they would call me back. A week has passed, no word from them. NEVER AGAIN WILL USE THEIR SERVICES. read more

Went in to get a RAM upgrade on my 2006 macbook. Was helped by Billy and in less than 2 hours got my speedy computer back. Bonus- he replaced the whole keypad-faceplate (mine was cracked and busted up)... Apparently Apple has a replacement initiative since they are so prone to cracking. All this for no extra charge! This company used to be trustworthy the last time I went there about 2 years ago. Last week I took in a drive that wouldn't mount. They kept it for 4 days and then used scare tactics to try and bully me into paying $300 + for 'data recovery'. I told them if it mounted on their iMac I had a feeling it would mount on another and I could do my own data recovery. All I wanted was to determine if they could get it to mount because at my immediate disposal I only had a laptop. Andrew assured me that if he dismounted the drive there was an extremely high probability it would never mount again on any system. It mounted on my friends iMac and and old one I had in storage with a fire wire and a usb cable no problems. If I i didn't have some computer know how from my job as a film editor I would have been conned into spending hundreds of dollars for no reason. There is some damage to my drive directory but it isn't any worse than it had been a few years ago when I last opened it. In any case nothing like the horror story I was sold in exchange for money I didn't need to waste. Mad at being conned and bullied into paying $135 for something that took less than 10 minutes for me to do at home. I don't trust Computech and won't be going back again. read more

I took my laptop to computech because it wouldn't turn on. They said they would call me in 2-5 days to let me know what was wrong with it, on the sixth day I called them to find out what was up. The guy said I needed a new logic board. He said my computer was just old, and that it would cost $500.00 to fix it. I told him I thought I should just get a new computer, he agreed. And he also said, it would cost $135 to transfer the data because I didn't have back up. The problem was, I couldn't afford a new computer. So I ended up just paying them the $40.00 diagnostic fee, which turns out was completely wrong! Luckily I found ReAnimac. I took it in, and within 30 seconds the guy told me that it wasn't the logic board, it was the memory. It ended up costing me a total of $50.00. My laptop is now working perfectly. I also found out that even if I did need to replace the logic board it should cost around $200.00. Needless to say, I will not be going back to computech. read more

BEWARE!!! COMPUTECH DESTROYED MY COMPUTER! I have never written a review, but I need to make people aware of how horrible this place is. My Apple laptop was displaying horizontal lines (every now and then) when I opened/shut the screen. I decided after living with the problem for over six months to get it fixed. I read great reviews on Yelp about Computech so I thought I was safe. NOT! Their initial diagnosis was that I needed to replace the cables that attach the bottom to the top screen. Not a big repair, so I agreed. A second call came a few days later that the problem was bigger, they needed to replace the screen and suggested I buy another lap top. I decided to pick up my computer and live with, what was at the time, an INTERMITTENT problem, which was more of an nuisance than anything else. When I arrived home with my computer tried to turn it on and saw that my battery was at a zero charge. I plugged it in and hours later saw that it was not charging, at all! The battery was only 6 months old, so I called Computech to complain. They were very condescending and told me to make sure I'm allowing enough time to charge the battery and that they did not consider a 6 month old battery "fairly new." They told me to bring it back in and they would fix or replace the battery -- I did with the receipt in hand to prove that the battery was in fact pretty new. Days later they called and said that every time they put in a new battery my computer "FRIED IT!!!" "WOW, that's pretty crappy," I said, "but what are you going to do about it, since that was obviously not an issue when I brought it in." He had the nerve to say that I brought it in that way and it's not worth repairing because it would cost over a $1,000 to REPLACE THE ENTIRE GUTS of the computer. In my defense, I told him that I brought it in without a power cord and when I checked it in and showed the counter person the problem, my battery was fine! And, no one told me there was this supposed problem with the battery when I picked up it! I asked for the manager who happened to be out of the office. I left several messages for him, frustrated I asked to talk to the owner, who was also not available. I spoke to the business affairs manager who could not do anything but calm me down until the manager could call me back. When he did, he just reiterated what the technician told him and said "sorry there is nothing we can do about it, the battery was an issue when I brought it in." THEY TOOK NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR BREAKING MY COMPUTER! Again, in my defense, I told him that I NEVER work with my computer plugged in because I am a freelancer and my office is usually the nearest coffee shop. And, I'm completely pissed that now I can't do that. He just kept saying, "sorry but there is nothing that I can do." Defeated, I picked up my computer and decided I will just have to keep it plugged in when I want to use it until I can make enough money to buy another one!! WHEN I BROUGHT IT HOME (THE SECOND TIME), IT WOULD NOT TURN ON, EVEN WITH THE POWER CORD PLUGGED IN!!! I was furious and called the manager. He said that "for some reason" when they opened it up to investigate the problem my whole computer was fried. WHAT?!?!? He said they saw some past water damage that could have caused a problem when they opened it up. WHAT, WHAT?!?!? I have NEVER spilled water on my computer, ever. What B.S. I told him the whole situation is completely unacceptable, now I don't have a working computer...on any level!! WHEN YOU DROP OFF SOMETHING FOR REPAIR YOU EXPECT IT TO BE FIXED. NOT RETURNED WORSE OFF!!!! After much complaining, he agreed to "only charge me what Apple would charge them" to fix it. I told him, forget it. Why in the world would I trust them to fix it?!! Having no choice I ended up losing work and buying an new computer and spending time and money to retrieve the date off my broken computer!! The worse experience ever. If I had the time I would SUE COMPUTECH. Seriously, don't trust them. read more

i just returned from the only good experience i've had since my apartment suffered severe smoke damage a few weeks ago. i brought my white macbook into computech because it had been sitting open on my desk and was covered with a dark grey soot that wouldn't wash off and stank of acrid smoke. matthew laforest literally made miracles happen and cleaned the entire computer (he even opened the back and checked for troubles), all with enthusiasm and reassurance and without accepting payment of any kind. i'm completely sold on the place and almost welcome future computer glitches so i can once again be in such capable hands. read more

I needed a new keyboard on my MacBook Pro. Even tho my Mac is under warranty, The Mac Store AND MacMall (where I bought it) couldn't fix me up for up to a week - meaning I had to drop off my computer so they could apprise the situation, order the part, then install it - all the while me computerless...I run both my personal and business affairs on this machine and couldn't be without it for that long, even one day would be too long! Both Ed and LaForest encouraged me to bring my machine in to Computech and promised that they could likely turn me around in a day...even in a few hours! This was music to my ears. In fact, I brought in the machine, logged it in and I took it home while in the meantime they ordered the parts and called me in a few days letting me know the part was in. I brought in the machine and they indeed had me out of there in a couple of hours. The highlight that no other service provider could offer was not having to have my WORKING computer be in jail the whole time waiting for the part to be delivered. This was personal attention, the kind you can't get at MacMall or The Mac Store. When I came in to pick it up, Norman introduced himself and took the time to share with me the whole Computech philosophy and introduced me to other happy clients who have been coming there for years for all their computer needs, whatever they were. While I hope I never have another computer issue (fat chance!) I'm glad I found Computech. If and when I do have a problem, at least I'll rest easily knowing there's someone out there who understand my needs, the needs of the consumer, and that they'll strive to take care of me.
