I literally just got home minutes ago from picking up my laptop from Computech. That shows how desperate I was to write a rave review of them!! The bevel (the frame around the screen) cracked on my MacBook Pro, so I took it in yesterday afternoon to get it fixed. The turnaround was one day! I destroyed my laptop in a water damage disaster and rushed it in to Computech in a hope-against-hope that ten years worth of photos and documents I had not backed up (ugh) were recoverable. Computech was so great to deal with, and I felt better as soon as I walked in. I could tell immediately that they clearly understood my problem, and they gave me an initial time estimate and price quote that was reasonable and made sense. They recommended options for getting my files from the dead computer to minimize cost and labor, and their prices were lower than the other places I'd called. Computech followed up as soon as my computer was finished. They had saved my data (yay!) and the final price was even less than their initial price estimate. I joined Yelp just so I could give these guys their due. I had my MacBook Pro seize up on me in addition to a problem with my trackpad. Upon a recommendation from our IT guy at work, I took my computer to Computech and since it wasn't busy that early in the morning, thy guy was able to just dive in, diagnose the problem on the spot while I waited. Long story short, the problem was an Apple battery that went bad and some RAM that went bad. Though they didn't sell either, they recommended a place that could set me up with both. When all is said and done, they were able to send me on my way, rescued my laptop at no charge. I know that experience may not be the norm, but I was amazed at how helpful and accommodating they were even though they weren't going to be able to make any money. It gives me pause to read that a couple users have had experience so different than my own and it makes me wonder if the satisfaction with computer service is going to vary based on the severity of the computer issue at hand. But I can only speak for my own and my experience with Computech far exceeded what I was bracing myself for when my computer died. read more

What the hell? It's like they try NOT to advertise. They're on the second floor of a very quiet intersection in Palms, with * one * sign, yet they take up like 10,000 square feet - they're not a small shop. They're also very reasonable, very quick, and they specialize in macs. The dude quoted me one price, and when it came to be a little more expensive, he GAVE ME THE FIRST PRICE. That's a rarity. They also know what they're talking about a little more than the other places. Did you know that they get a lot of work from the Genius Bar? That's right... that douchebag you talked to at the Apple Store who's angry and bitter at life because his PH.D in "applied philosophy" is not helping him find a job, will have Computech eventually do the work anyway. Very professional and very fast. Found them on yelp and the reviews held up true. My PC had been on the fritz for a year and a half. I had taken it to Best Buy where they were unable to diagnose the problem (even after a week). At computech they called me the next morning, had figured out the issue, and within another 24 hours had a new power supply installed. PC works perfect now, well worth the cost of repair. read more

I have dealt with Computech multiple times over the last year and have had nothing but trouble. First I hired them to set up a wireless network-attached storage system at my house. I bought exactly the NAS they recommended, but within weeks of installation it was corrupting my Time Machine backups and disconnecting from the network almost daily. When I called the manufacturer, they said Computech had told me to purchase the wrong device--the one I was told to get is not even designed for wireless access! Additionally, after Computech migrated my iPhoto and iTunes libraries to the new NAS, the tech could not figure out how to set iTunes up to access the library in its new location. I ended up figuring it out myself by searching the Internet, yet I was still charged for the time the tech spent at my house not figuring it out. Computech did eventually offer to install a new NAS for free (if I would shell out another $500-$800 to buy it), but I really couldn't trust them anymore after the complete ineptitude they displayed. Still, I was forced to go back to them when the hard drive they installed in my MacBook Pro failed after 7 months. They didn't charge me for a new one because it was still under warranty, but they did charge me 90 bucks to transfer the data, which I thought was pretty unfriendly. I wish there were another company I could recommend instead, but so far everyone I've tried in LA has been a dud. read more

I love computech. Whenever I have an issue with my laptop now, I call computech before I even think about making an appt with the genius bar at the mac store. The geniuses are great, but I believe computech is better equipped to solve more complex problems. I have never had to wait very long when I stop by, and everybody is super nice and helpful. I always learn something new when I go there that helps me with future issues. Since I still own the old school powerbook g4 12", there's alot of things that become more complicated being that this model is obsolete. Computech is wonderful at solving problems and keeping me confident about my laptop and it's remaining life. I've used the services of CompuTech for probably over 5-7 years now - I have 4 kids (3 of them college students) each with there own MacBook Pro - Also my wife and I have Mac's - Over the years I have used CompuTect to solve or fix all of my technical needs - from helping with my home network to replacing cracked screens, keyboards, motherboards and numerous internal dive problems - what is soo amazing is that they go the extra mile to detect and save your on a corrupted disk - which happens far to frequently these days - Several times I waited over the w/e while they their recovery ran stuff - so If things are taking a bit longer, these guys have the equipment and are trying to save your data. I was able to rent a mac with all my files on it so no work time was lost. My apple warranty has expired but I am not worried cause they have such good customer care. Nice guys! My Macbook was acting up (3 HD crashes in 2 years). I had made some repairs myself that would get it working for a short period of time, but after the third crash I figured it was time to take it to professional. Someone from Geek Squad had guessed that it might be the logic board - which would have been a $600-700 repair. Not worth it on a 4 year old laptop. I ended up stopping by Computech and explained the situation to them and they recommend running a full diagnostic but that it would take 2-3 days. I was in the middle of finals week and could not be computer-less for that long. Since my laptop was already opened and without the hard drive when I brought it in, they were able to quickly start up my computer off of one of their hard drives. They reasoned it was most likely not the logic board, but rather crappy hard drives (their words) since my computer started up with no problem there. They didn't charge me anything (thank you!) and suggested I get a new hard drive and do another reinstall. They also let me know that you can get a fast replacement HD from the manufacturer (if it's still under warranty) and then send your crashed one back at a later date. Solid and useful advice and my little lap top has been up and running for the last few weeks. read more

I will be updating this review after my business with Computech is complete. What I like about CompuTech: the people there were frank and willing to make recommendations that would not necessarily benefit the shop. People are professional, courteous, and thoughtful. What I do not like about CompuTech: they seem to lack a proper reminder system. I dropped off my laptop with them 3 weeks ago, which they diagnosed with a problem only Apple could solve. They offered to send my laptop to Apple, and I would pick it up after it was returned. After two weeks had passed, I called them to follow up on its status. They said that sometimes Apple takes up to two weeks to return a laptop. After three weeks had passed, I called them to follow up again. This time, they investigated and found that they had never sent the laptop to Apple at all. I realize a busy shop may misplace a CPU now and then, but the lack of a working tickler system has left me without a working laptop for 3 weeks and counting... hardly the service I would expect for a competently-run business. The good news is that the person responsible apologized and took responsibility. He could have claimed it was Apple's fault, but did not. --- update --- Although I'm still nonplussed about the mistake, I am understanding that mistakes can happen. After the problem was identified, the laptop was returned to me half a week later and in good condition. The folks at CompuTech continue to seem to me to be kind to customers, which will bump them up from 2 to 4 stars in my estimation. read more

Typical. I want to support local computer repair places, but I'm always disappointed. Computech is the same story. Bring the laptop in on Monday (it has a Trojan) and have to leave town with it on Sunday. Ask about the wait. They say 2-3 business days. I call again on Friday (4 days later) and they say they'll try to look at it that afternoon. They're usually open Saturdays, but not this Saturday because Monday is a holiday. Come to pick it up Friday evening, and nothing has been done. Typical. Don't waste your time with this place unless you don't need your stuff back for 2 weeks. They do not have their act together. Yelp, you led me astray! I really, really hate to say it, but I should have just taken it to Best Buy. Would have had it back, fixed, on Tuesday instead of having nothing. I was hoping I'd found a dependable, local computer repair place, but Computech is definitely NOT it. read more

They honor Apple warranties, and since they are certified for Apple, their work doesn't void any warranties either. They had my hard drive REPLACED with a new one in 36 HOURS! Computech renewed my faith that there are still businesses with integrity that aren't all about the almighty dollar. I was referred to a few different places by the Apple Store. Computech was by far the most informative, professional and friendly on the phone. Friendly goes a long way when you're anticipating dropping a couple of hundred bucks. I've had my Mac in there twice; the first time for a new hard drive and recently to undo corrupt software. Both times, Mike Jones was the service tech and both times he spent a lot of time explaining exactly was was wrong and what he needed to do to fix my machine. Bought my MacBook Pro in cos my kids had "accidentally" spilt tea on my keyboard ...groan... Ryan there was not only very helpful and knowledgable, but I also NEVER got the feeling these guys were trying to make an extra buck (which sadly cannot be said of other places, even authorized Mac ones). They delivered on what they said, and the cost was extremely fair for replacing keyboard etc., (thank god logic board had not been damaged, phew!). CompuTech is hands-down the absolute most fantastic place you can go to take your computer. Over the years I have gone numerous times for my crap PC desktop that always breaks down and they are always so kind, efficient, and professional about taking care of it in a timely manner. I had also brought my old iBook (which has since retired) and they are the BEST with the obviously superior Macs. Their office is clean and comfortable and their staff are always friendly and hilarious.The guys who run Computech are the real deal and have started the best computer support service around! My PC died. They recovered my data and transfered it to my mac. They're busy so you'll have to wait about 3-5 days, but it's well worth it. It cost me $135 to pull the data from my dead PC and put it on my new Mac. Unless you can find someone who will do this cheaper, I'd say it's as good as it gets. Good luck! read more

I went to Apple (with reservation) and waited an hour. I went to Computech (without reservation) and waited 3 minutes Apple told me it would cost me 800.00$ to fix my problem and that it would take atleast two weeks. Computech (Ed) smiled at me, took my computer in the back for five minutes, came out put the computer on the table and smiled again. Apple was an $800.00, one hour plus wait, sans smile.... Computech was a 3 min wait, and the smile and service came for free five minutes later....you do the math nuff said! read more
