I went to Congee Village for lunch with a large group of family members (20 people), so I was able to taste a lot of the food here. In general, the food quality is good. In particular, the lamb was cooked well and the walnut prawns were tasty. However, one of the main issues with this place is the expensive price. Also the service speed was a bit slow. The interior of the restaurant is nicely decorated with Chinese decor. Each of the large rooms for groups is decorated uniquely. In the room that I was in, there was an automatically rotating lazy Suzan table, which was nice. Also, there is plenty of seating in the restaurant. Overall, Congee Village has overpriced but good authentic Chinese food. It is well-suited for large groups that plan on staying for a while. If you are just eating out with one other person and on a budget, you might want to consider another place. read more

We got off on the wrong foot last year when we first tried Congee Village in Flushing and the food was not very impressive nor lived up to expectations after eating many meals at the CV in Manhattan or the now closed Congee Bowery. There's something wrong when you have a 10 course Chinese banquet meal and you end up going home hungry? I probably would have rated them 2 stars. Skip forward in time and maybe things have changed for the better. The decor here is less eclectic than CV-Manhattan, a little more traditional and better feng shui on 2 levels with private dining rooms downstairs. There's even a wooden bridge, a flowing fountain and where do you even get a bronze horse and carriage these days? And who else has mosaic artwork going to the restrooms? After 2 recent multi-table multi-family meals here, I have to say the food is back up to par with what I expect from Congee Village. Familiar traditional Cantonese fare that I've been enjoying since I was a kid at my first wedding banquet come to mind. The portions are generous and will have you satisfied as you roll out the door. All the earmarks of a celebratory banquet meal must be satisfied. Start with 2-3 appetizer plates, and a nice soup, seafood dish(es), a whole chicken, complemented with pork or steak, maybe toss in a couple of lobsters, a whole fish and finish up with fried rice and noodles to symbolize long life. My one recommendation is the pan-fried whole flounder. The crispy edges and sweet soy sauce makes this dish one of our favorites that we order all the time. We came here on the Saturday before Chinese New Year, so allow my review to reflect those conditions. Bearing the hour and a half train ride to Flushing from Sunset Park, one Chinatown to another, is not an easy one, so I was happy to experience the warmth when I stepped through those doors, realising it was mostly from the body heat of all the people inside. Congee Village has two floors and has a feeling of decadence. I can imagine having a nice wedding banquet here, especially with their indoor bridge, the perfect photo opp for your social media aunties. Because it was a busy night with many parties waiting, the spacing was a bit crammed and I felt like a sardine with nowhere to breathe. However, the food was served promptly after it was ordered. We had a few of the standards, and everything was quite good save for the garlic-fried chicken which was overly salty. Their jellyfish/fried cod/intestine appetizer was delicious, but their steak was obviously not thawed properly and tasted of freezer burn. Their garlic pea shoots were amazing, as well as their yee meen, but the star of the show was probably the Loa-Muy Lung Hao faan {lobster with fried sticky rice combo; $68}. I didn't have any, as I am averse to sticky rice, but the rest of my family enjoyed it. Overall, the experience was fine, but I don't think it was worth hauling all the way out for. My biggest gripe was that they would not allow us to cut a birthday cake for my niece because of how busy it was, so we had to do it at home. Congee is amazing, as always. Saved me through my darkest hours when I was sick for a full week and they delivered life-saving goodness. The non-congee dishes I ordered were ok (beef braised noodle, roast beef and turnip canto style) but I can't say I'm clamoring to repeat that experience. All in all, solid. Normally go to the Allen St location in person and really thrilled this Flushing location delivered to me. Ate here yesterday for dinner with my mom, dad, sister and cousin! Lately, it has been our favorite Chinese and family restaurant to eat for dinner in Flushing. The service here is always pretty good and attentive. The food there is also really good, delicious and the price is affordable to eat for dinner! My favorite food eating there includes the chicken, lobster fried rice, sizzling beef and the peking sauce pork chops...Yum! At the end of our meals, there's always free desserts for us to be served and eaten such as when the weather is cold we can get hot red bean soup and when the weather is warmer/hotter we can get sliced fruits. I'm a fan of the original outpost and really wanted to love this newer, bigger location - but it's hard to give this location more than 3 stars given the inconsistency. We recently ordered a bunch of items for a large family dinner in one of their private rooms ($1k min spend btw -- not worth it given the inconsistency of the food!) ranging from fresh king crab cooked 3 ways to their special fried chicken to vermicelli, ginger and garlic stuffed clams. The highlights: excellent seafood eggdrop soup, steamed king crab (although this mostly has to do with the quality of the crab vs. effort on the part of the restaurant), stir fried garlic king crab Could be better: Some pieces of their special fried chicken were perfectly seasoned and crispy - other pieces was tasted like they'd be doused in salt. The seasoning of the ginger and garlic stuffed clams was on point; but, some of the clams were too overcooked and chewy. I have super mixed feelings about this restaurant. Upon first visit, Congee Village had horrible to excellent food, poor service and the unclear pricing on their specials. We went here for my-in-law's birthday. Big group, big family, big table. Lots of food. We made a reservation (Yes! You can do that!) and they told us that we need to be there at 6pm sharp, or they are giving away our table. Ok. So we got there on time, ordered enough for 15 people (even though we only had 10). We ordered chicken with mushrooms and sticky rice served in giant stick of bamboo, fried tofu, Cantonese fried chicken, pan fried minced pork patties with water chestnuts, sautéed pea shoots, sauteed cauliflower, preserved meat with Cauliflower and Cantonese wok-fried lobster with sticky rice. So the presentation of the chicken and rice in bamboo looked amazing but the chicken was ok and the sticky rice was average. The crispy Cantonese fried chicken was great, we polished that dish. The pork patties were gross- half of them were raw in the center. We sent that dish back. The best dish was the most expensive: The fried lobster with sticky rice. The sticky rice had lobster roe and lobster juices, it was warm and adente and sticky and soft at the same time. Chunks of juicy lobster in the shell were in the dish. And you got to pick out all the sticky rice from the lobster shell. Amazing!!! I've never had this dish before and I'm so glad we ordered it! The problem was the wait time and the lack of communication between the waitress and our family. The waitress was rushing us to get fast cooking dishes and told us not to order other dishes that took a long time. But her recommended dish, the Cantonese wok-fried lobster with sticky rice, took 30 minutes to make. And then the much anticipated dish came out when everyone was full. We were so excited, most of us took pictures when the dish was laid out on our table. Then they took the dish away and said- sorry this is the wrong amount of lobsters. The waitress said, that dish had one lobster and not two. So, without clarifying, they ordered for us the 2 lobsters with sticky rice when 1 would have been enough. My in-laws were told the price for one lobster not for two lobsters. So we waited some more and watched longingly at the table next to us eat lobster with sticky rice. And when my in-laws got the bill they were unpleasantly surprised at the price ($70 instead of $35). Umm, so yea. I don't know if I'll be back. This place is huge in space and grandeur, and I forget my parking stresses as soon as I sit down at their big tables with my family. We usually take over 2 tables, and whether it's a special occasion or just a regular dinner, it is such a treat to eat family style at Congee Village. And it really is like a small village in there... there's a decorative foot bridge from the entrance to the multi-level dining rooms, a bright bar, and mosaic-adorned bathrooms. I don't understand all the negative reviews. This place is great. They have the best congee in all of Flushing. Their sampan congee and thousand year egg with pork are my top favorites. I ordered from Uber eats and my food came in hot! Everything was delicious. My son is a picky eater but he ate all the rice and Peking pork chop off his little plate. He even asked for seconds! For those people complaining about the congee coming in a quart container-all congee from everywhere come in quart containers. Also keep in mind, Uber eats and door dash take restaurants 60% of their profits, and they still fill their congee up to the rim. I hope they don't go out of business.
