Coohills is a terrific restaurant whether you want to grab happy hour, get food & drinks before a game, have date night or entertain clients. I've done all of the above and enjoyed them all. Diane & Tom are gracious hosts and always there with a smile. I had my last client holiday party there and it was a great success, everyone enjoyed the food and the service was excellent especially for such a big group. Parking is really convenient and their Beats on the Creek event is super fun in the summer. read more

"The chef de cuisine must be a heavy smoker..." was the comment made by someone in our group of 6. Because everything that was put in front of us was salted to hell, to the point it hurt my mouth. Only someone with obliterated taste buds would consider the amuse bouche to be remotely amusing. Should have called it offend bouche. My ravioli dish (consisting of three pieces) was sad, oily, and painfully salty. His Dudeness ordered his steak medium plus, but was served a cut with the beast's pulse still detectable. After sending it back to have it cooked as ordered, the same previously living hunk arrived transformed into a lump of black, sooty coal. That went back too, but by this point, His Dudeness had no confidence in the kitchen and declined to order a replacement meal. They present their wine list on an iPad. Gimmicky to the extreme, without enhancing utility or customer delight. Our server was caring and hard working. We bonded because he was sick and tired of the (apparently frequent) kitchen bungles sabotaging his customer service. No one in my group left happy or solvent. An abomination all around. read more

so you pull up to the valet stand and there is a sign that says "keep driving round the block". so you do. after two right turns and a struggle to see the microscopic direction signs in the dark, you find yourself in a cul-de-sac with a valet. he gives you a ticket and says "get it validated". you walk a block back to the restaurant (isn't the idea of valet that you DON'T need to walk any distance in the cold)? you eat a very average meal, attended on by coked-out waiters who are surprisingly slow to bring food, fast to bring the massive bill, and keep telling you their name is chad or brad or spud or something. (and this is on a slow thursday). you return to the valet stand and find that your car is parked on the street with a ticket on the window stating "call me" posted by the valet. luckily you don't need to return to the restaurant because you carry a cell phone, and you call him. he says he will be back in ten minutes. it's freezing cold. he returns, tells you "it's $12" and dangles your keys in your face. you say "here is the validated ticket; we ate at coohills". he says,"yup. $12". obviously we aren't going anywhere intelligent with this thug, so we pay quickly because we're freezing, having been kept waiting while he finished his joint somewhere. we call the restaurant back to complain that free valet service after a $180 meal is expected, especially after being told to validate our ticket. "not here" they reply. "can you find good food or service at coohills"? you ask. "not here" i reply. they will be out of business by this time next year. read more

I must give this restaurant the highest of marks. Came in with my friend and we both had strict dietary needs. The wait staff and chef were brilliant at obliging our needs. Our waitress check on every detail of our meal. The food was amazing. Mussels melted in my mouth. The chef even sent us complimentary desserts with our diets in mind. Beautiful atmosphere. read more

I've been to Coohills once before, it was around 10:30 on a Saturday night and didn't get a chance to try their food since the kitchen was closed but that's not my reason for the poor rating. My reason is that the bar staff seemed put off by our "late" arrival. My wife and I stayed for just one drink and went home (we live across the street) The second visit (and most likely the last) left a very, very sour taste in our my mouth. Again my wife and I visited Coohills but this time it was on a Tuesday night around 7pm. It was a beautiful night and so we wanted to sit on the patio and snack on their Bar menu. Since we weren't sure if it was a seat yourself kind of place we waited at the front next to the vacated Greeters Booth...and waited we did for about two minutes. That might not sound like very long but it feels like an eternity when you're being ignored. Several wait staff passed us and said nothing, there was a lady standing behind a counter to the right of us writing in a book that also said nothing and the most frustrating part is that Mr. Coohill himself was standing about ten feet directly in front of us, I guess the conversation he was having with someone was too good to pause for a moment and excuse himself to help a patron. I'm sure the food is good but the place must be so popular that they just don't need my business. read more

Service review only - why did I come here, oh that's right, it's a new restaurant and it's French cuisine. Food was good, pricey. The service was awful!!! I read all the reviews before I went to dinner here and 100% reviews were on spot! The waitstaff was rude, timid, obnoxious, agro and rushed! It really wasn't worth my breath/effort to speak with mgmt to embarrass or ruin their day. In all, food was good but service gives you a bad taste in your mouth after. read more

Our first impression today came from the person at the hostess station with the stony expression, who only bothered to say "how many?". This same person was also our server and couldn't be bothered to crack a smile or show the slightest bit of warmth. The pork sandwich we had for lunch was excellent, so if food is the only part of your dining out experience you care about, then I say "go for it". We were also a bit put off by the fact the manager stood talking to the chef and couldn't be bothered to say "good bye", "how was your meal?", "come again", or any of the other niceties you come to expect as a part of good customer service. Nice touch, people. I won't go out of my way to go back there, as there are too many good restaurants in Denver to bother with one that doesn't seem to care whether you eat there or not. read more

Coohills is a classic example of a restaurant opening with GREAT food unfortunately paired with bad service, maybe not bad, but certainly amateurish. We went Memorial Day Weekend and managed to get Saturday reservations for 6 the night before! The space is great and well laid out. We were seated as soon as we arrived and given an iPad that contained the wine list. We wanted to start the evening with something light and had a question about two of the wines, the waiter told us she would send over the sommelier who never came to our table. We got the attention of the waiter and went ahead and ordered a bottle. When she served the wine we told her we needed a couple of minutes to figure out our order for starters, after 20 minutes (and feeling we had been forgotten) she caught my eye and indicated she would be over. We went ahead and ordered starters and entrees at this point. I started with the charred octopus and mussels which was served to me without the mussels! When we asked about the missing mussels the waiter seemed embarrased and said something about this being an older preparation, whatever that meant, and brought me a very small little dish of mussels 5-10 minutes later. I will say that the octopus was probably the best octopus I've ever had and the mussels were delicious. Interestingly, another person at our table ordered the same dish as an entree and it was presented with the octopus and mussels combined in a beautiful, lidded dish. How could an item on the menu called charred octopus and mussels be served to two people so differently when it was ordered at the same time for the same table??? When the entrees arrived they were all sat down at the wrong place, again, this shouldn't happen at a restaurant like Coohills if a a casual dining restaurant like Park and Co can get it right! By this time we had ordered a third bottle of wine and were enjoying our entrees, everything from the specials to the menu items were very well prepared. I will say that the roasted half organic chicken is not a true half and the advertised white asparagus that accompanied the chicken turned out to be 3 little spears hidden under the chicken. We decided to avoid dessert, growing tired of the bumps in our evening, and asked for our check. Speaking of dessert, why is the dessert menu presentation left to the bus person rather than the waiter? After handing the check and credit cards to the waiter she returned to the table and told us she forgot to add the third bottle of wine. The night just wouldn't end. We are all experienced diners and this was not the experience we wanted. With so many wonderful restaurants in Denver we're just not "give them another chance" kind of people, we would rather not waste a good night out. read more

Wow one of the worst meals I have had in Denver. Such a disappointment. Started from the moment we sat down and the waiter rattled off way too much info at once including what they were out of. 2 appetizers, an entree and some of there cocktails. We ordered the crab appetizer which was quite delicious. Bread was served after this which seemed out of order but was fantastic, the best thing all night. The Cesar salad was solid but not remarkable. And then the disaster... I had the scallops and gnocchi which where uneatable completely hard on one side. I wasn't able to stick a fork in them. The scallops were cooked well and had good flavor but the broth/sauce was bland and uninteresting. Frankly the gnocchi were so poorly done the dish was a turn off. My father had the fish special which was chard beyond recognition on the outside. It was plain old burnt. The food was so bad I would have complained if anyone had come to check on us during the meal but no one did despite the dining room being almost empty. A buser showed up and asked to box our meals which we did to take to our dogs. When the waiter did return and ask how everything was we told him. He apologized and then sent over someone else who I don't think really believed us since we had boxed our meals. They offered us free desert which we really didn't want. When pushed I took it home to give to a friend who said it was really good. Apparently they should stick to baking. In retrospect I wish we had sent our meals back to the kitchen for $30 a plate your food shouldn't be uneatable and with not one dish but both entrees awful I have to give this restaurant one star. Although I might be convinced to return to the bar for a cocktail I will never eat at this restaurant again. read more

I never right bad reviews... and I really wanted to like this restaurant, love french food, but didn't like this place. Some how they served me a duck confit that was dry... how is that possible, its supposed to be slow cooked in duck fat, it must have been 2 days old. they served it over unseasoned flavorless Brussels sprouts, served in a weird bowl that made it hard to eat... they managed to mess up 2 of my favorite things in the world... so surely they would get my entree right, which was Lamb I love Lamb my grandpa was a sheep header. I had the lamb porter house, with roast parsnips and a sweet mash mmmm sounds delicious... Was not. The piece of lamb its self was good, however it was very poorly executed, it was kind of blackened on the out side and raw in the middle, which is fine I don't mind raw lamb so I ate down the maybe 4 oz of meat that was left on the bone pretty steep for $32... I don't know maybe I got a forward cut piece, closer to what would be a T bone Lamb steak, cause I couldn't even scrape off a bite of the tenderloin side... it was pretty much just a fat cap. The roast parsnips were insulting thrown on the plate as if they had been scooped out of a cafeteria line, completely void of and flavor just a white spongy circles. The sweet mash totally uninspired, and the Au jus was just a joke. It tasted like caned reduced beef stock a little salty and that's it no flavor at all. They did have beer. I live right around the corner and at some point might end up there again, hopefully it will be better and if it is I'll let you know. read more

Don't waste your time! Bartender was extremely unprofessional, they couldn't make 2 drinks on their 8 drink menu because of not having the proper liquor (sake and tequila). The truffle fries were limp, cold, and flavorless. The sliders were stale bread with hockey pucks in the middle, and our cocktail server was a little snippy brat! We showed up prior to a basketball game looking for some reasonably priced food and a couple beverages. Food was awesome, atmosphere was great, but watch out for Kyle. He ruined our experience with poor service and billing us for food we didn't order. We pointed this out to him, and he fixed it, except he added another 20% in charges after by neglecting to give us happy hour specials. We left before we realized this, but the overall impression was that our entire experience was him trying to upcharge us so he could have a larger tip. Plus he complained about his coworkers and having to work every time we interacted with him. In summary, we'll try again because of the food and atmosphere , but we won't be sitting at the bar if Kyle is tending and we'll be easy especially vigilant about triple checking our Bill. read more

This place is fading fast and for good reason. If you've never tried it - don't bother. It'll hopefully be gone in another few months. Used to do lunch service. That's gone. Used to be very welcoming to small groups here in the nieghboorhood which should be their bread and butter since the location is about as inconvenient as lodo gets. That's gone. If you're not a table of 8 and aren't ordering rounds of cocktails/bottles of wine, it now feels like Coohills doesn't want you. Noticed this restaurant on my way back from a hockey game. I work right across the street and had no idea a restaurant had even opened in this space. What caught my eye was the outdoor fire lounge. We sat outside and ordered some drinks and apps. It's a quite corner of downtown and not much foot traffic in this area. Haven't had a chance to try the full menu and will review when I have had a chance to. Worth checking out though if you are leaving the Pepsi Center after an event. read more

I have to tell you that this place is as refreshing as it gets. The food was very creative (the salmon and the steak) in the preparation and the servers were extremely friendly. The wine list was extensive and affordable. The desserts were as good as they get in Denver. The chef and his wife both came and visited our table to make sure all was well. We would recommend this place to anyone that enjoys good food that has a very convenient location (right off Speer and Wewatta with the on site parking garage). have fun!! read more

I was looking forward to our 5280 experience at Coohills. My appetizer of pork was ok to much food for an appetizer. My husband had the artichoke which was tasteless no flesh on the leaves, small. We both had the fillet mignon with scallop potatoes, the filet was good but the potatoes were bland so we ordered salt and pepper to add flavor. The biggest disappointment was the dessert, I felt like I was eating frozen coolwhip with nuts, awful texture, waxy aftertaste. The service was good, very attentive. I was looking for a French food experience but ended up with a bad steak house experience. Nothing french about the food. read more

So so. This place is classy and pricey but not memorable. The experience from start to finish lacks personality. The bar appeared to be a more desirable ambiance (warm, cozy, lively) compared to where we dined - in the dining room. Service is pretty flat, menu reads well and the food tastes good but the lack of passion and energy for it from the staff makes it fall short. The wine/beer list is delivered on an iPad, which is hip -- but it comes with no guidance from the staff and is kind of confusing to navigate. The bread and butter with truffle salt is awesome! We had a less than perfect first visit to Coohills a month or so ago. When we brought it to the attention of the restaurant leadership it was handled with remarkable speed and thoroughness. Because of that, we returned last night to give the place a second try. We were certainly glad that we did. The food last night was incredible, the service was great, and who can beat half price wine on Sundays? We tried to pick a favorite dish of the five we tried and it was nearly impossible. We gave a slight edge to the chocolate cake that ended the meal, but any of the dishes would stand up to any meal in the city. Our second meal was a five star experience, so we're going with four to account for the mishaps of our first time. read more

It's restaurant week in Denver. One would expect a restaurant to have their act together for this week. Not so much last night. We arrived on time for a 5:30 reservation and immediately told the server we needed to leave at 7:00 for the theatre. She said , no problem because they figure an hour and a half turn for a table. We quickly ordered drinks followed by our dinner order. The charcuterie plate was fantastic, followed by a wonderful duck confit for my wife and a delicious onion soup, thick with onions for me. The next course was unremarkable, escargot salad and ricotta gnocci. That was the last thing we ate. It took 20 minutes or more between courses. At 6:40 we cancelled the dessert order, and finally, at 7:10 we told the server to put our dinner order in a box since we're were already late for the theatre. Go if you have plenty of time and only want charcuterie and a little wine. We will never return. read more

Giving a very very generous 4 stars to Coohills, mostly on the promise that it shows rather than the actual experience. We went with friends for a special occasion, and I realize that Coohills just opened but looked forward to the meal based on the reputation of their Atlanta restaurant. The space is eyepopping, with floor to ceiling glass and dark wood everywhere. The patio out front is spacious, and located right on Cherry Creek, it is going to be a popular hangout during the warmer months. We sat in one of the round booths which I have to say was a bit awkward for a party for four. As many as six people could have fit around it, so I felt a little bit like out on an island by myself during the meal. Overall I really liked the dining room, however. We were expecting and prepared for some hitches in service since they had just opened, but our waiter quickly let slip that it was his first night of service, and it didn't take too long before that became apparent. I understand how difficult it is during the first week, so I won't detail all the mistakes, but for the benefit offering my observations for improvement, I would say that the service suffered from paying us too much attention to the point of annoyance; my friend was asked by at least three or four people whether he was finished with his drink when he wasn't, and our waters were never allowed to get down below the 3/4 full level. The food took an extremely long time to come out; our entrees were served nearly two hours after we ordered them. And since the dining room was pretty empty, I don't see any excuses for that. Standouts included the Octopus starter and the Wagyu ribeye steak which I had (though the accompanying pommes anna was a hockey puck). My wife's fish dish was too salty and our friends had the lamb and a clam pasta entrees and neither was particularly inspired. Several dishes had spinach on the plate, and for each of us it was gritty with sand. We were a little despondent after waiting so long for our food and getting a so-so meal, so we skipped dessert. Perhaps Coohills was expecting to make a really quiet soft open but was unexpectedly slammed by the attention given by the Denver Post article featuring them as a hot new restaurant, but definitely they under-delivered in nearly every aspect of the experience. I feel like my review comes out sounding like a litany of excuses for Coohills, but I quite expect that one year from now, it will have hit its stride and will be one of the hot dining spots in Denver. They have all the ingredients for success; they just need some time to pull it all together. read more

This restaurant was a real disappointment. A dear friend who knows the owners chose it for lunch one day. We went, and found out it was no longer open for lunch. Oh well. I needed to take my partner out to a nice restaurant for our anniversary dinner, so I checked the Yelp reviews. Even though the reviews were a bit all over the map, I thought I would try it out based on the recommendation of my friend. That was a mistake. The prices at this restaurant ($150 for two, without wine) are so high that anything other than an excellent meal is unacceptable. An excellent meal was not had. Do not get me wrong: The food (with the possible exception of the snails) was fresh and appeared to be cooked correctly; however, the dishes lacked the correct seasoning or any kind of interest. The bread and dessert were truly the highlights of the meal. The tomato sauce was the highlight of the snail starter, and the three snails in the dish were very, very fishy. While french onion soup was not on the menu, we chose it based on the server's recommendation. Now, french onion soup can be a true comforting delight; however, this was not a comforting delight. As my partner put it, it was "okay". The sauces associated with the scallops were mystifying as they added nothing to (actually, they detracted from) the flavor profile of the scallops, and the scallops themselves appeared to have been cooked without any seasoning whatsoever. My partner said the barley was more flavorful than the salmon. Yep. The barley was the highlight of his main course. Other than that, the service was very good, although the ambiance was not as exciting as other reviewers would suggest. So, it's "Eek! Methinks not (at these prices)!" read more

All starters, sides, entrees and dessert were good. Few were great. I really enjoyed my pork chop and the lamb looked great. The ladies' halibut was overcooked. The cheese board was light on the cheese, but they were all good tasting for the small bites we did have. Carrot side was excellent, brussel sprouts were good, potatoes were okay. Service lacked quite a bit. No explanation (or offer) of the dishes, no check in, we had to request more bread vs offered. Also, I don't like ipad wine menu's. The bathroom had paper towels all over the floor that had seemed to be there for a while. I always question a restaurant that doesn't keep a clean restroom. I would go back, but if at that price point there are a number of better options downtown. read more

Going to try to be constructive since they are pretty new but have several issues mostly with the kitchen execution: Bread service with truffle salt was good Spot prawns- uncleaned rock shrimp I'm ok with but leaving a certain size of shrimp uncleaned leaves me to make the inquiry ...."how much shrimp poop is too much"...also califlower puree was unseasoned and bland. - Octopus was tough and bland...hard item to execute either fix it or take it off. - Escarole salad was good and egg was perfect but not seasoned, a little cracked pepper would go a long way too. - Chicken spaetzle soup was actually delicious but no spaetzle so taken off our bill. - Saucission was good but again a little salt and a pretty weak presentation made that dish underwhelming. Last thing which I hate most of all is the furiously texting manager closed the kitchen a full hour early. Terrible sign of things to come and my ultimate pet peeve for a restaurant.
