This is a hidden gem. The beers are exceptional and the Hawaiian Juicy IPA (has a really long name you can't pronounce) is a must try. We got the Grass Skirt sushi roll and it was pretty decent. I love this place! The people are SO friendly and accommodating! I've eaten indoors and out, and so far have enjoyed everything I've tried. We love this place. We know fresh fish and thought everything was fresh and delicious. The best way to gauge if it's fresh is ordering the nigiri and the hamachi nigiri was buttery and so yummy. The beers are delicious too. Oh! And we loved the wings. Sweet but spicy and crispy and sticky. My bf said he could eat them all day. We have been there when it's quiet and when they've had a live band and it was so busy they were bursting at the seams. We got our food fairly early on the busy night but I noticed at the busiest time of the night people were waiting awhile for their food. Just adding that so people come prepared. When we went in and we seated ourselves. After 10 minutes of not one word to us, one in our party went up and asked for menus. After 20 minutes of still not one word to us we walked out. Waitress said goodbye as we walked out and my boyfriend said we didn't even get served!! Waitress responses was, oh well. Four of us went to this restaurant/bar for dinner about a week ago. Apparently it had just undergone some decorative changes as well as a menu revamp. That would indicate an improvement, but it's hard for me to believe that the atmosphere or food was an improvement over anything. Everything but the burger one of us ordered was fried from frozen. We had the fish and chips, as well as the chicken and fries. All very bland and forgettable. The burger was visually appealing and tasty. My husband and I have been toying with the idea of buying land in Cool to retire on in a couple decades. To get a lay of the land we wanted to eat local for dinner. Plus is, the food was pretty good, I had a Volcanoville roll and he had a burger. Downside, whew, it felt like we walked into a rally, and not the kind you want to as an interracial couple. Could have been our mistake, but we weren't acknowledged when we walked in for a good 5 minutes and the place wasn't busy. Then we got a curt nod, no smile, and waited another 5 to be sat. My husband and I felt like we were outsiders, an annoyance to all three waitresses and half the patrons. I'm white and I think I finally got a taste of what it's like to be othered. I can't say with certainty we were treated poorly or received sideways glances and no smiles because we're an interracial couple, but everyone else in there was white and got friendly service from what I could tell. If it was because we aren't locals, shame on you Cool Beerworks and not to worry we'll spread the word on your service. Going with my gut on this one, we probably won't be back. read more

I love their food, but this has happened time and again. Often takes FOREVER to get service. I've had to go up to the bar area (after at least 15 minutes) and ask if someone is going to come to our table to take our order. Once they do take the order, it takes FOREVER to get the order to the table. I've been told that "sorry, they lost your ticket", "sorry it's the kitchen staff's problem, not mine". You have a great place, please hire staff that knows how to do their job. read more

Roll was wrong and super fishy tasing. Kids chicken tenders were chewy and only our dog ate the fishy tasting fries. I haven't been to this restaurant since it changed owners but I don't think they're doing very good business when they're painting signs on the front of the building that look like a kindergartener painted it with a paint brush that says shaved ice now they painted over it or covered it but they have signs saying they're open late and they have cold stuff or shaved ice and sounds like and looks like they might not make it with whatever they're doing. Hope they figure it out hate to see somebody spend a bunch of money and fail but that's what it's looking like. I've tried this place two different times and both times I was really let down I didn't enjoy what I was served. Actually aurgroup 8 people I nobody enjoyed what they got. We weren't drinking beer or anything else so maybe you have to be drunk to enjoy the food here. Definitely not my place to go in the future probably will never return. read more

This is solely a review on the food. Overpriced, nothing authentic about the Asian cuisine. Paid premium pricing for uncooked chicken?... Did not finish dish due to raw chicken. Ended up spitting out the chicken, felt like vomiting after. Waitress did not bother coming back to check up on us after bringing out food. Save your $$$, better off going to a Panda Express. Wish we had the option of choosing zero stars. We are locals and had a terrible experience. Our miso soup took 20 mins and was cold and taste burnt. I'm pretty sure the gyoza was purchased from Costco and baked... it was horrible. We barely ate anything and asked for our check. This place was great. After a long day on the lake my husband and I stopped in for a bite to eat and a cold beer. Had the beer sampler and to our surprise we liked everything! We just had appetizers the fired shrimp and spring rolls. The staff were all very nice but our waitress was amazing. Poor dear was dealing with a real jerk at the bar that needed to go for sure. My husband and I decided to stop by the brewery before we went grocery shopping. We walked in and saw that it was busy so we decided to sit at the bar where there were two available seats. We sat down and waited for 10 minutes, during that time we were not acknowledged at all. We didn't even get a "Be right with you", I even made eye contact with the bartender and got no response. So disappointed in the service, being ignored when you walk into a restaurant is unacceptable. We will spend our money somewhere else. read more

The last time I'd been to cool beerwerks they had your typical pub food. Wings, fries, etc. It also had that typical bar feel to it also. Sometimes change is good, but not this time. Since my last visit a few months ago management/owners whoever decided it'd be a great idea to completely take the bar experience out of the establishment and make a poor, poor attempt at being the "hip" place in town by adding sushi as the go to choice for nourishment. Also, to add the craft beers are a 2/10 at best. Service was piss poor as well. Service to my party was non existent until I walked to the bar for a glass of water. Overall, I'm extremely disappointed with the direction of cool beerwerks. Not going back ever again. read more

So glad to have this new Brewery in our little town! There is a large selection of great beer on tap (I had North Coast Brewing Company's PranQster) and it was ice cold. The owners introduced themselves and are very friendly, the atmosphere is fun with live entertainment events scheduled. My husband and I tried the Kahlua pork sliders and truffle fries and they were delicious. Outside seating is nice for cool evenings. We will be back soon! read more

We really, really want to give this place 5 stars. Fully support hometown businesses. However, every time we go we say, not again. The menu and decor are improved. But the food is the same. And my beer? Never cold. Great beer, in a warm glass, barely cool. Maybe everyone doesn't want their beer super cold... but I do, especially on a hot day. So, onto the food. The tempura shrimp? Meh. Soggy, greasy, tasteless. We had this recently at another place and it was super crispy, not greasy in the slightest. Had a bang bang sauce that was the bomb. Not this one. The sushi rolls are way too big to put in your mouth, so what do you do? Bite it and watch as it falls apart? Deep fried shrimp in these also tasteless. The Ahi is a light red, not sushi quality where I come from. More than 60. for 3 rolls, soggy appetizer shrimp, and two beers. Nope. Would love to see some crisp tempura, better quality shrimp, sushi sauces with some tang and zip. Everything altogether too bland. Wish it wasn't true. read more

Thought it'd be another mediocre sushi place, especially at the price. The second I opened up the take out box I couldn't be more wrong. My eyes were blinded with fat colorful sushi rolls. My nostrils were filled with the aroma of fresh sushi. The box was warm. I was quite in shock! As I bit into it I was reminded of what good, fresh, high quality sushi is like from my Mikuni days at a way cheaper price. Awesome place especially for such a small town. Will be back! The food here is good, but you'd better like head-banging music. Great beer too, but service is so so. We are locals, but we rarely go to Beerworks. Cool Beerworks has recently changed the format of their restaurant and this review is badly in need of updating, given the amount of time I spend there I should have updated it to 4 stars long ago.... The eatery side which they call 'Kuru' now serves Japanese. Being a rural brewery you should not expect quite the level of Japanese you might get at a good quality Japanese restaurant down the hill, but I have ZERO complaints. The menu is a little limited but this is understandable and what they do serve is quite good in my opinion. I can satisfy both my Japanese and beer craving at the same time and without driving. What a deal! All the positives from below still apply. They updated the seating adding benches along one wall. The place has a much warmer feel. They still don't take Amex but I won't let that stand in the way of a good review except to whine about it and point out that I would spend more there if they did (really), and I still do wish they were open Mondays and Tuesdays. Also since writing the review below I have become an avid drinker of their Pandemic Imperial IPA. I highly recommend this place! VVVVVV Old Review VVVVVV As a local Cool (ALT) resident I was very excited about the prospect of a brewery in town. I was hoping for a warm inviting pub atmosphere but what I found instead was an odd seating arrangement and a clubby atmosphere. Now to be fair they have billed themselves as a live music venue and I understand that the look and intent may appeal to many people, it just doesn't appeal to me. A few pros and cons Pro: 1. They are located in Cool. I don't need to cross the canyon for a beer. 2. The beer selection is good in my view. Every brew type is represented and the fact that they have thus far kept North Coast Old Rasputin on tap is a BIG plus in my book. 3. They are dog friendly and allow dogs on the patio. 4. In my experience the service has been very good and friendly. Cons: 1. Clubby cold look. Poor seating selection. 2. Don't accept American Express. I understand that this is not unique, but the pubs I frequent in Auburn DO accept it. Beer on tap is a high margin item. It is really not worthwhile rejecting any form of payment. For my part it means that I will stop by much less often. The additional expense of dealing with AMEX is well worth it. 3. Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays! What? We stopped by for a beer yesterday (Tuesday) and they were closed! One of the biggest pluses they have going for them is convenience. They are local. So yesterday we drove back across the canyon to the Little Belgium Deli in Auburn (also keeps Old Rasputin on tap) and I reflected on how much I like the atmosphere there and how they take Amex, and how it isn't really that much of a drive. See where I am going with this? 4. The food is "OK". I'd prefer a better selection ala "Auburn Ale House" but I am there for the beer. I suspect (perhaps incorrectly) that the limited menu is partially in the interest of getting along with other local food establishments. If so.... please take it up a notch. You are competing for our dollars. You deserve them as much as anyone else. Actually I wouldn't mind if I could have an "American River Grill" pizza delivered :) I guess alternatively American River Grill could start carrying Rasputin on tap. It's a dog-eat-dog world. I hope this review is not coming across as too negative, because I don't really intend it to be. No doubt I will stop in now and then out of sheer convenience (and Rasputin) but not nearly as often as I was hoping for. Cool Beerwerks just opened and they deserve to get a chance to find their footing and to that extent I hope to be constructive in my criticism. If you haven't stopped in I would recommend that you do. Just because they don't entirely suit my tastes doesn't mean they won't suit yours and I don't fault them in any way which would cause me to recommend that anyone stay away. read more

What a great find in the small town of Cool! Some very fine brews on tap, both their locally brewed and their guest beers. Staff are knowledgable about the beers they serve and are very friendly and attentive. Amazing sushi, had our doubts about sushi in Cool and sushi in a place named Beerweks but it really was great. I had the poke bowl with tofu and spicy sauce,amazing. My husband had the chefs choice sashimi and said it was great. Kids had California rolls, my 16 yo daughter is a sushi snob and loved hers. They even made a special tofu California for my son.
