    Santa Barbara Omelette
    Lucia C.

Local diner in the area. I went w/ their Santa Barbara Omelette which comes with avocado, tomatoes, scallions, mushrooms & cheddar cheese. I went light on the cheese. It's a big omelette. I wish the hash browns were a crispier but I didn't ask for it so I just dealt with it. Our server was very good. I had my breakfast for dinner w/ some multi grain toast and jam. It's nothing special but a great go to place when you don't know what you want to eat. Note: Better to pay cash as there's a fee if you pay with credit card.

Service was fast and breakfast plate was great. Not too crowded so no wit for a table of my own choosing.

It's your quintessential diner-- the eggs are good, the hash browns are good, and the turkey bacon was good! It's a staple for sure, but nothing too out of the ordinary! In the pricier side, but so is everything here! Cheers!

This is a pretty solid diner experience. Located on the corner of 20th and 1st, this is a pretty bare bones establishment and isn't going to win any ambiance awards - BUT I think for the price, service and taste it really shines. Brunch is a nice affair - the front of the store is all opened up to let the breeze in from outside. $5.99 mimosas and bellinis, brunch specials that run around $25. The omelettes brunch meals are $23.95. This includes: 1) omelette of your choosing 2) a mimosa or bellini with 1 refill 3) the menu said that I would have a mimosa/bellini or coffee/tea/juice but they also included coffee 4) 2 pieces of toast 5) a bowl of fruit 6) a huge helping of hashbrowns Had the iron man omelette - a good amount of cheddar; would've liked for there to be some onion or peppers in this but couldn't find any of the combinations they offered with all the toppings I wanted. Not sure if they offer a build your own option for the omelette brunches since they're sort of pre-selected so I just went with it. Fluffy and all around decent, no other complaints. The hashbrowns are a little on the mushy side on the bottom but nice and crispy on top. This is likely because they give you such a large helping. And they're a little on the less seasoned side but nothing you can't fix with a little salt. The fruit is actually pretty impressive - extremely fresh especially for diner food. We had melons, grapefruit and grapes. Toast served with little packets of butter and jam - nothing to write home about there. Orange juice is made fresh in house - there's a little machine in back. The drink itself has a bit of a strong flavor from the champagne but still rather enjoyable. Pancakes - under $10. Fluffy, tasty. Doesn't dry out too quickly. Nothing to complain about here either. Service is slow at times due to how busy it is, but friendly and they offer things even you may have forgotten to ask about.

Bacon Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato Sandwich, Vegetable Omelette. There is an uptown called "Good Enough to Eat". Feels like this is CTD. It's your typical local American diner. The sandwich is really think though. Otherwise, the omelette is ok. The service is great. Not the greatest diner food I have eaten but again, it's good enough.

I have traveled this world from Asia, Europe, North America,…read moreand South America, and let me tell y'all, I have never ever had pancakes like this before. It's clearly evident why the pancakes at the Gold Diner are famous, viral, and most talked about. My husband and I were obsessed with the lemon zest on the butter. I have never tasted a syrup like theirs before. It was fluffy and was giving a bit of mochi consistency (which I'm obsessed with mochi lol). Although the pancakes are the star of the show, the fried chicken is out of this world amazing too bursting with the greatest flavors. Enough about the food, service is straight up top notch! Everyone who works there is passionate about being a member of the Golden Diner. They work as fast and efficiently as possible to get everyone in their doors. Thank you so much for welcoming us with arms wide open and for the best service. You guys are awesome!

The pancakes are decent, though, with a perfect fluff inside and crisp on the outside. The lemon zest adds a bit of tang and flavor to the honey butter's sweetness, which I love. It isn't the best pancake in the world for me, and I'm a little underwhelmed given the hype for this. But I think if I ignored the hype, it's still a solid pancake. It isn't anything crazy to me, though. I wouldn't wait hours in line for this, but if you're a pancake fiend, definitely go here! Service was very efficient and attentive. They were very kind and food came out very promptly. Also, there isn't much seating inside, and there's only one bathroom. If you want to try the pancakes without much wait, then go on a weekday that isn't breakfast or early lunch.

There was already a line inside when we got there, but they did a fantastic job getting everyone seated in a good amount of time. The restaurant is definitely on the small side and very tight, but the staff here know how to navigate this place. The person working the food was a machine. She did a fantastic job making sure the food came out correctly and handed it to the servers. I had a front row seat and just watched her orchestrate the whole time. Anyways, I ordered the pastrami on rye and the wife ordered the pastrami reuben. The food came out at a good pace. One thing I noticed is that Carnegie rolls up their pastrami. Most deli's I've been to usually would slice the meat and lay it on the bread, but not here. I can see why they roll it up as it gives you the impression that you are getting a lot of meat. But the problem is that there are parts of the bread where there's no meat whatsoever. I'd rather have them lay the meat on the bread so that every bite I get a bit of meat also. I just ended up not eating the part that was just bread. However, I do love that they toast the bread. Gives it a nice crunch when you bite in to it. I did think it was odd that they give you a side salad with balsamic vinegar. Afterwards, we got a slice of their NY Cheesecake. This was probably the biggest piece of NY Cheesecake I've ever gotten at a Deli. Usually it's sliced thinner than this. It was topped with strawberries that tasted like jam. The cheesecake was good and not too sweet. It had that thickness and smoothness from a NY Cheesecake. This is definitely not a place where you would eat and chit chat. It's more of a get in, get out type of place so they can turn over the table for the next guests.

Fast forward to 2026 (where I'm finally not broke as hell), the day has finally come, and I am ecstatic about stepping foot into this diner that surprisingly is still standing in 2026. The inside certainly feels like a diner, but not quite the old-school dinginess that I'm used to--it's clean. Given that it was Sunday at noon, it was very crowded in there and mainly flooded with tourist groups, but a table opened up for us pretty quickly. For a NYC diner, the menu is certainly small - this is probably done to keep tables moving faster. I got the Pastrami Hash & Eggs and it was just overdone and super oily and dry--almost as if they just refried everything except the sunnyside egg. Not gonna lie, I was very disappointed, given that I had waited for so long to come here, only to get food that was an attempt to give the staleness another chance by refrying and reheating. I actually beat myself up a little the rest of the day for finishing the whole thing, knowing that the oversaltiness was flirting with opening up some high blood pressure. It was also not moderately priced by any means (was close to $30), but I know I'm helping pay for that Midtown and proximity to Central Park pricing. Not sure if I'll return, which saddens me, but also knowing that they're part of a conglomerate at Fireman Group (and still run independently in a sense) makes total sense

With the hopes of avoiding any potential wait time, I decided to stop by on a bright, early Sunday morning at 8:30 AM. There was no line and I was seated immediately, but it was already packed (which indicates the food is top quality). Egg Cream: This chilled beverage has a beautiful appearance, especially the thick foam at the top. The ratio of seltzer, milk, and chocolate syrup were stirred perfectly. It was highly satisfying and a perfect alternative for a traditional breakfast drink. If you are not desiring the chocolate flavor, this specialty drink is also served in vanilla. BBC Omelette: This breakfast plate may have the same initials as the 24-hour news channel, but there is no relation whatsoever. This omelette was stuffed with broccoli, bacon, and cheddar cheese. These are not typically the toppings I order with an omelette, but I was feeling adventurous. It was a wise choice to explore this specialty plate because it surpasses my taste buds by a long shot. I never would have guessed broccoli and melted cheese taste well combined with an egg. A side of hash browns and toast is included. They were the backbone to the breakfast plate. In addition to a great meal, the service was impeccable. After I was seated, multiple servers checked up on me to make sure I wanted a drink. They always passed by and refilled my water glass.
