Terrible food, terrible delivery, terrible response when I called to tell them what happened.

I don't really like the name of the diner, it reminds me of a haunted terrible place i go to get my degree but that has nothing to do with the rating. The food is just pretty bad lol. I love diners but this place would have to pass. Maybe i'll come for like a coffee meeting here at night but def not getting the food here. read more

I used to go here once or twice a week for lunch over the course of the year. The place gets very busy from 11:00-11:45 am because the nearby school kids are out for lunch. The booth seats have breaking fabric and are rather uncomfortable. Most of the waiters are nice however one clearly did not understand that my friend was a vegetarian and asked her multiple times about not wanting meat in her cob salad. Even after we sent the the salad back once it came back still with bits of bacon. While we did not send it back, just assuming they picked out all the meat we were very unsatisfied. Be mindful that there raspberry smoothies are very tart. Overall it has normal diner food and isn't really spectacular. read more

I don't love or hate this place. The Caesar wrap has no taste and ultimately that's the biggest issues for me. The fries were fine, it's honestly just hard to deliver fries it's not even the restaurants fault. I just didn't love the wrap, it was soggy, lacked taste and the chicken was rubbery. I wouldn't say I won't order again, it's possible it was just what I ordered that wasn't the right choice. read more

I live in the neighborhood, and had tried this diner about 2 years ago. Left totally underwhelmed. Gave them another try recently for delivery-- I thought maybe they were having an off day the first time. Again are underwhelmed. The club sandwich, something so classic and easy, came with un-toasted bread and no Mayo. It was dry and mushy. After one bite I had to disassemble the sandwich, toast the bread triangles, and put the thing back together with Mayo. This is a $15 sandwich. It feels lazy, and after all this work I feel like someone should pay me for making the sandwich. It ended up being tasty after I fixed it. Obviously in won't be ordering there again read more

I read some of the bad reviews, so I prepared for the worst! I got delivery, and it was all good! I ordered the Spinach Pie and Greek Salad and it was a giant portion, which i loved. It was really an Old School Greek Diner portion. So I was really happy. Maybe not the best Spinach Pie, but it brought back memories of eating at mid-night at various diners in my miss-spent youth. Reading that some reviewers have said that it needs to be updated, well that makes me want to go in-person and enjoy even more old school vibes. We'll see. read more

Not long ago I took a wine tasting class. In wine tasting classes you try to heighten your senses, the better to discern the subtle flavors of blackberry, leather, plum, licorice, tobacco or whatever you might find in a good wine. When eating at Coopertown Diner, your best bet is to do the opposite -- try to dampen your senses as far as possible. If you don't, you might find that the pickle served with your cheeseburger has a distinctly medicinal taste (something I don't care for in a pickle). Then, too, you might pick out the grainy/hollow texture of the French Fries. In the context of the food I had, Heinz Ketchup became a blessing. And plain, ordinary mustard took on the complexity of the Encyclopedia Britannica. Coopertown does offer a lot of varieties of hamburgers, which is cool. You can get cheddar cheese, even feta cheese. You can get a hamburger with an egg on top! Nearby Cosmos Diner doesn't offer the wide range of cheese options that they do here (although I liked Cosmos' plain ol' American Cheese cheeseburger better, overall). And Coopertown's people are fast, efficient and amiable. New York diners are by nature local, neighborhood businesses. It makes sense. Who would travel out of their way just to go to one? What's great about this fact is that it affords an opportunity to observe the local, neighborhood people living their lives. So, for example here, if you need to interview people who remember what New York was like in the 1930s, stop by anytime between say 4:30 and 7:00 PM. They're here, dancing on that borderline between septugenarian and octogenarian. There's no counter at Coopertown Diner. I don't get that. Diners are supposed to have counters. In my view, a diner isn't just a 25 page menu and a big open space wherein a bunch of booths and tables and chairs have been gathered. It's got a counter, with fixed stools. It's got revolving cake and pie displays. It's got waitresses in uniforms. It's got coat hooks on the booths. Alright, let's figure the tip and get out of here. read more

I started my food-affair with Coopertown as my staple diner four years ago. The portions were generous and the waiters very attentive. Sadly to say, I fell out of love over these brief years. My main problem were the price increases, they were too much for my wallet. Nevertheless, the food is usually good, hot and served incredibly fast. My favorites have been just about any omelet on the breakfast menu and the burgers. Although I agree about the pickle with your burger, avoid it if you can, it really tastes like an overly ripe cucumber. read more

We ate dinner there tonight and everything was fine. I had the Stuyvesant omelet - and although I was initially concerned that a two-egg omelet wouldn't be enough, it actually was. The toast was very plain, but the omelet and hash browns were very tasty. The service was pleasant, and *for once* we ate at a place where water was proffered at regular intervals. Prices were on the high side, but not outrageous - and the menu was extensive (typical Greek diner fare). I came here over the weekend with my straight-up Greek family for a casual brunch. Everything met our expectations, but didn't exceed them. My dad got really excited when he realized we were in a Greek establishment, and proceeded to strike up a 10-minute conversation with the owner while we waited for our food - safe to say, he had a great time. My mom and I each ordered the eggs florentine, and could easily have split one order - there was a ton of food! My only complaint was that the hash browns were of the shredded-potato variety and were a bit bland and under-seasoned. I prefer the cubed, well-cooked variety, with extra flavor, ya know whadda mean?! Overall, we ate well and ate a lot, and the prices were fair. It's a diner. So picture your standard big room with lots of tables, cheap food, and a ton of families. The tables and decor are cuter than at most diners I've seen, and the service is very quick. If you're in the mood for a diner, you can't go wrong at Coopertown. I've been to some other hole-in-the wall places on 1st avenue, and Coopertown beat them all so far in quality of food, prices, and service. The first time I came to this place was awesome. I ordered the Irish Breakfast and what I got in addition to it was 2 pieces of toast with jelly and butter, orange juice, ice water, coffee, and fruit. The dish itself was your all-American (or Irish rather) breakfast--meat topped with more meat, egg, and crispy hash browns. The service was very personable and I had the television in front of me to keep me busy. I came here again today, and same story, with same dish, same side stuff. Yet, it must have been busier because one of the waiters gave me tea instead of coffee less than a minute after I clearly said coffee. Now that wouldn't be so bad if he didn't place the check on my table when I had just started eating. I found that rather peculiar and unpleasant. There I am having my meal and I have the price tag staring at me the whole time as if saying "pay me, now!". As for the food, it was every bit just as wonderful as the first time (that made up for the service). I asked for champagne in my orange juice this time (mamosa), and I was stuffed. Growing up in jersey, 50% of the meals I ate out were at diners. Now that I've been living in the city for a year I've made it my mission to find all the quality diners in NYC. Coopertown is one of them. To me, a good diner consists of speedy service, consistently good food, and cheap prices. I have a rotation of what I order from diners (omelette, tuna sandwich, turkey burger) and all of these have been approved at Coopertown. Also not to mention they have the quickest delivery time on seamless and they're always reliable. I have actually only been inside the restaurant once and it looks like your typical diner. Coopertown is my go to diner for probably as long as I'll be living in the east village. I'm not giving this 5 stars because it's the best restaurant I've ever been to..I'm doing it because its a quality diner. You get what you pay for, and it's good. read more

Call this a 3.5. Decent burgers, good fries that traveled well, good packaging. Sort of a long time to get delivery, but they delivered later than some closer places. It was difficult to get the person taking the order to understand it, and then they botched the apartment number after we repeated it three times. It happens, but it put off phone ordering. Prices seemed slightly less than our usual diner and the fare seemed much more diner-y, too. All in all, we'd order again. read more

Having been in Stuy Town to see an apartment that my daughter will be moving into in a few weeks, our party of 4 stopped into CTD for lunch. It was excellent. Great place to grab classic diner food if you happen to be in the area. It's a pretty straightforward kind of place, serving up all the foods you can expect from a diner without offering much more. You could probably even order here without even looking at the menu. However, don't expect many healthy options or alternatives. I think simpler food is the way to go here. I really enjoy the lemonade they have here. During the summer it hits the spot perfectly and tastes really fresh and tart. The grilled cheese tastes just like mom's: american cheese melted in between toasty slices of bread. Like many casual eateries, this place is also very family/kid-friendly. Rudest people I've ever encountered in NYC. I placed my order, they confirmed via text message. One hour later I called to see what was going on. The owner said the seamless listed price was $10.90, but he charges $10.95. I asked if he was still going to send it and he yells at me going "NO! I AM NOT GOING TO LET YOU STEAL MONEY FROM ME!" and then hungup when I was in mid-sentence. He never even bothered to call to tell me. He got the order, confirmed it, decide he didn't like the price, and threw it away. All this over FIVE CENTS and because he listed the wrong price on seamless! After passing the Coopertown Diner more than a few times, I told myself that I wanted to try it. Solely based on looks, the exterior of the diner looks like the place could be mad awesome. The sign outside is big, bright, and attractive. (that's what she said). It stands out on the street and definitely draws your attention. After a night of painting the town red, I suggested to K-Flex we give it a try. Since she does whatever I tell her, we walked in ready to get our breakfast on. After being seated immediately, Karen and I looked over the menu and gushed like a couple of girls on the first day of camp at the list of omelets. There were so many options, and they all sounded delicious dance worthy that we didn't know which ones to choose. However, I was extremely surprised when I noticed that all the omelets were two egg omelets. Maybe, its because I'm a born and raised Jersey boy, and we live and die by our diners down there, but I thought a two egg omelet is absurdly ridiculous. I can't remember ever being at a diner where they didn't have three egg omelets. I refuse to believe that I am the only fatty who has been a patron at Coopertown Diner and have been shocked and appalled over this issue. Thankfully, though when I asked our waiter if I can get a third egg in my omelet, he nodded yes. Notice how I did not say that the waiter said yes. He nodded yes. The only thing the waiter actually said to us was "More coffee?" The waitstaff at Coopertown diner did not seem very friendly or engaging, and appeared to be very stiff and all about business. Anytime Karen or I asked him a question, it was either a nod yes, or a shake of the head no. It was interesting when Karen was trying to substitute her toast and home fries for just regular tomatoes. As he kept shaking his head no, since the menu does say 'no substitutions,' he eventually allowed the tomato freak (yes, that's you Karen!) to have her tomatoes by nodding his head yes. Which begs me to ask the question, why no substitutions? Is it really that big of a deal? Is the chef going to break down and cry because he or she is insulted you don't want the meal he or she created? Why is it such a problem if someone is trying to be healthy and doesn't want to consume all the extra carbs? Besides, it's a waste of food, and money for the owners if they are bringing a plate of toast and home fries that doesn't even get touched. It boggles my mind. Anyway, after I had my cereal, in which "No Manners Flexer" reached into my bowl and took some before I put the milk in, the omelets finally came. I have to say that the omelets, definitely lived up to the hope that we had for them. They tasted great (have the Peter Cooper, if you come here it has mushrooms and basil in it, and it is excellent) and they were cooked just right. Most importany, the omletes weren't like Karen in the sense they weren't overly cheesy. They had just the right amount of cheese in them, where you actually taste the eggs first, and the cheese second, and not the other way around. While, Karen and I managed to get a chuckle out of being served the world's tiniest piece of toast, that doesn't make it acceptable to serve. While the omelets were as good as we expected them to be, I don't think it allows Coopertown Diner to get away with the overall flaws that it has. I wouldn't say that I would never go here ever again, but I would probably look at other diners to eat at in the area first. read more
