Words cannot describe my love for this place. Located on 36th Ave, Copacabana is in the heart of Astoria, with like 50 other "okay" Brazilian spots surrounding it. To be fair, most "good/okay" food spots in Astoria ALONE are infinitely better than whatever overpriced counterpart in Manhattan, a statement I will forever stand by. The reviews for this place don't lie; it's been a personal favorite spot for many years now. In an age where $50/plate at a "meh" churrascaria is deemed perfectly acceptable, this place keeps it simple. Small variety, but everything is incredible. I mean, for ~$11 for a container, you can't go wrong here. The mashed potatoes are great; however, if you want to capitalize the most out of your plate, don't even bother with it. 1 heaping spoonful of it will make your tray heavy and cause you to do an awkward 1-handed balancing act while you get a drink from the fridge. This place used to be great when they served Short Rib but the last two times that I tried to get short rib, they didn't have it. I even called the first time to ask and they told me they did and then didn't have it when I drove all the way there. I just tried to call them again and the person on the phone was rude, and once again, no short rib. Time to try a new place! read more

Some plans got cancelled and we were hungry so we needed to find a cheap place to eat a decent meal. Found this place through yelp and so glad we went. It was great food for a great price. 3 of us had good portioned meals with 2 soda cans and 1 dessert (i think it was a cheesecake). All that came out to $30. We definitely left happy and full. This place used to be amazing, authentic, convenient, and affordable. None of these things are true anymore. Been coming here multiple times a week for 15+ years since it opened and the last few times I stopped by, the meat smelled foul, stinking up the restaurant. They never have the proper meat (Idk if they stopped serving pork sausage but it's been months since I've seen it there). Another classic case of jacking up the prices and quality plummeting. I wouldn't even mind paying a premium for QUALITY meat that doesn't smell, and delicious buffet options. But, as others mentioned, they don't add garlic (or salt!!) to any buffet options. The brigadeiro is good. The other desserts basically suck. So very sad about losing a neighborhood classic. read more

Out of all the thousands of restaurants in New York, this place is one of the places I would visit more often than not. The place is small on the corner of the block. Inside it you find 2 connected buffet tables and at the end of one a very friendly employee that handles all the meat. You get to pick which type of meat you want and how you want it and he will gladly make it for you. The best surprise happens at checkout. You hand the plate to the employee and he (or she, today) weights the plate and charges you by the pound! I never ever pay more than 10 dollars for a plate full of delicious well cooked steak. After paying you pass through a small doorway into the seating area. In my opinion this area is rather small and im surprised that it is never full! I've never had a problem finding a seat in this restaurant which which serves above average quality meat for a very economic price. Overall I love this place and wished that they would have more food choices but that may not be possible since they are restricted from expanding by the area of the restaurant. Every time I get a craving for Brazilian food, I think of Copacabana's buffet. Not only are there many dishes that one can choose from (including a small salad bar) but there is also the 'meat man' that handles all your meat needs. I literally stack up on food here and the most that I ever shelled out was still under $20 (for two people!). If you wanted to try Brazilian food but didn't want to go all out at a restaurant, then you should try this place. It's cozy, the people are friendly, and the food is pretty darn good. Thumbs up for Copacabana!!! It is a very Authentic Brazilian cuisine and as A Brazilian I know it! They have a big selection of Churrasco - the meats on the stick- rotisserie. The food tastes really good and for the price it is a gem in Astoria. You pay 5,49/pound. I just wished they put more salt in the meats before cooking it! But that is ok since I can ad the salt on my own plate! Every day the salad bar has a different menu so that you might get different foods every day. The salad bar also has meats, yet pre-cooked and flavorfull! Copacabana is often busy and that helps the food to keep it rotating and fresh. You can find few Brazilians beverages as well. Seating is tight but place is lightfull with windows facing the street. I enjoy the Strogonofe de Frango the most. And the ripe plantains are semi sweet, if you are luck you will get it sweet as Brazilians do. :( I go there around three times a week and it has always been great food! read more

Amazing meats. Sides are fantastic too. Feijoada is great. Even the desserts are fantastic. This place really cares about their food and all at an amazing price. My boyfriend and I get a full dinner here for $15-20 combined. They usually have a veggie or two as a side, and could do with one or two more. But this is such a small downside. This place is by far one of my favorites in the area. When you don't want to shell out 35 bucks per person for a Rodizio come here instead. You can get all the meats that your artery clogged heart desires for about 7.99 a pound. They also have salads and various Brazilian dishes. The meats are sooooo tasty. Grab a plate (or to-go container) stop by the buffet line or just cut to the meat corner where the staff will cut you slices of whatever they may have grilling. The steaks are great and the chicken hearts are extra yummy! Love this place! The atmosphere here is no thrills but they make up for it in their food. My favorite meats are the beef sirloin and lamb. Pork is a hit or miss sometimes. The hot foods in the buffet taste very homey and has lots of variety. The buffet menu changes everyday. When you come here don't forget to try the sweets. They are tiny and a bit pricey but they are packed with rich, decadent goodness. My only complaint is that the layout of the place is a bit awkward. Came here with a group of friends and they were saying nothing but great things about this place... so naturally I was excited to see what it was all about. Walked in to the buffet area and the meat carving station, and just from the brief look I got of the meat I was really excited to eat there. The food was fresh and hot. You serve yourself as much as you want and wait on line to get some meat freshly carved for you to your liking. I left a lot of space on my plate for the meat and I'm glad I did. The server was super generous and the meat was cooked to perfection. I had lamb, steak and some steak with the bone in it, and it was absolutely delicious. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. If this place was closer to me, I would be here all the time. It is very cost-efficient, especially for the quality of food they have. I misunderstood what buffet meant on yelp and assumed it was an all you can eat. Turns out they charge you by how much food you get- 6.99/lb if you get meat and salad, 9.99/lb if you just get meat. I definitely will be back even if it's just for meat. The steak was so tender and delicious. I could almost taste the corn that I assume the cows were fed. So i came to Copacabana and I am finished. Went there on Monday, Tues, Wed, Thur. straight. I always get top sirloin and beef ribs because I like the burned fat along with the meat, it is so good and makes my stomach smile ! Beef is really delicious grilled. I didn't like the flank steak, it was tough meat. They have: Turkey wrapped in bacon, chicken drum wrapped in bacon, chicken heart, pork chorizo, chicken sausage, flank steak, top sirloin (A+++), and beef ribs (A+++).
