For my 100th review, I was thinking of a place that was good, not extravagant and I often visit. This is a local spot for me and I go at least once or twice a week. I have brought friends and colleagues which also agree good food in a nice spot. The main reason I like it so much is it covers most of the food groups like meats, grains and vegetables, hey they sometimes even have slices of oranges for the fruit portion and you can buy Acai juice there, but I being a Carnivore Lover go for the meat. The Brazilian Churrascaria isn't table service like some other restaurants, this is a casual buffet like atmosphere. You wait on line and choose what goes in your plate from the bins of buffet food (rice, beans, fries, marinated meats with gravy, yucca, fried pork, plantains, salads) then when you get to the racks of BBQ meat select sausage, hearts, cheap rib eye, flank steak and chicken (sometimes with bacon). Waiting on line seems better before lunch or after on the weekdays. The place is packed and line fills up the little area where the food is on the weekends. Actually it use to be better and more popular couple years ago until they changed management or staff, though the food seems the same or similar, maybe the popularity toned down a bit. The food is not spectacular but very good. It really depends, sometimes I have had the BBQ meat a bit on the chewy side and other times, I just giggle with satisfaction. I think some of the photos by Nga C. and Wilkie J. show a very good description of the food you're getting. It is priced based by the pound on what's on your plate (approximately $7-$8 a pound for meat and buffet - don't quote me on that), just meat might be pricier, meat and salad, meat and buffet, just buffet or just salad (cheaper by the pound). I think this place is above three stars and only slightly below four stars, if maybe they improved the decor, food and basic seating instead of such a random/average seating arrangement just a little bit I see way more potential than a local Churrascaria, but that's why I like it: basic. A poor man's Fogo de Chau. A cheap version of a Brazilian buffet which is FINE by me. Flavor, meats everything you can probably find at a $25-50 dollar authentic Brazilian style fancy restaurant. The buffet style is different that your normal style buffet in the sense that you fill your plate up with whatever you want and then you weigh it which was going at $5.49/lb. I got a plate and a canned drink and the cost totaled to just nine dollars. Pretty good deal. ATMOSPHERE: Not the classiest type, more of a down to earth mom-pop shop/hole in the wall type. But the food definitely makes up for it. There are definitely Brazilian people coming in with all the Portuguese going around. The table seating is nice and clean at least but don't expect anything glamorous. Not bad for a small group 5-6 either. FOOD: The food is delicious! They have a salad bar with all sorts of different types of salads and veggies. There is also a entree part to the buffet bar with pastas, side dish types and some meats. But at the very end is a server who is getting some skewers of meat and cutting it up for you. I didn't see the meat server at first so I asked my friend what was all the rave about for the Brazilian meat that was already out in the buffet. But then I saw him, with all the scrumptious Pork Belly, Rib meat, sirloin, top sirloin, JUICY chicken cuts, pork sausage, chicken sausage, fatty meat...*drool* anything a meat loving man or wo-man would definitely LOVE. A cheap carnivore's paradise! lol I didn't name every meat they had and I'm sure there were more. SUMMARY: Definitely worth a try if you've never had Brazilian food and want a cheaper place to try then somewhere where you won't feel pain from you pocket book afterwards. The meats are all juicy and tender and there are some pretty authentic South American sides and entrees. You won't be disappointed with the food. Ok I still love Villa Brazil Grill but I gotta say this place has blown me away and dare I say my boyfriend (who is from Brazil) and I like it better. Been here twice now and will continue to come back. Copacabana like Villa Brazil Grill is buffet style and thus fairly cheap (I am usually full on about $7-8 of food). I can personally vouch for the deliciousness of the picanha, chicken hearts, and pork sausage. And somehow there is only ever maybe one person in front of me at the buffet which makes me a happy girl as I usually come here starving. And clearly they have guarana :). And likely equally important to the fact that this place serves up delicious food and quickly. It is really near the subway and it's a much quicker trip from Manhattan! At a random time (5PM on a Saturday), there were no lines for anything - a creamy mushroom concoction, rice and black beans with chorizo, and of course, the endless, slowly-rotating variety of meat on sticks including steaks, sausages, offal, chicken, turkey and who knows what else. I just want to big up the Brazilian people for blessing Queens with Churascarias. So far in my 7 years here this is the best buffet i've been to in NYC. If you are ever in Long Island City/Astoria just shut up and go here for the restaurant flavor at Buffet prices. Many times when we travel to Queens we go out of our way to stop here for a late lunch or early dinner. We go for the meats, though the other food on the buffet is very good too. The short ribs and skirt steak are incredibly delicious!!! The problem we have had (and the reason for not rating 5 stars) is that when we are there, too often the short ribs and skirt steak are not available. The top sirloin is very good, but not the same as the ribs/skirt. They also have other meats which are also quite tasty, but not enough to make a (longish) trip for. The food too is very very inexpensive for what you are getting. $7.50/pound when you mix the grilled meats with other items on the buffet, $10/pound when you don't. (And just a small amount from the buffet area drops the price to $7.50). The cost of skirt steak and short ribs are typically more at the supermarket and I am surprised the buffet doesn't cost more. I always feel like I'm getting much more for the dollar here than in other restaurants. read more

Ate lunch here yesterday. My roommate used to live in the area and raved about this place. I'll start by saying the food was deliciousss. They have a buffet of a variety of different things from standard Brazilian fare to a random beff stroganoff. I got myself some rice and beans, veggies, a little bit of this salmon and broccoli mixture and then I made my way over to the meats. They have an attendant manning the grill that will cut up a variety of different meats for you, I counted at least 5 yesterday. I got myself the sirloin steak. After skimming a few pages, I found Copacabana. It was a Brazilian place. All of a sudden, my eyes were fixated. Me and my excited tummy made out way to the buffet. This buffet it a more casual array of meats and salads and sides that you would see at Plataforma or Fogo de chao. You can choose from different size plates if you're just snacking or having a full dinner. I always go big. Rice, oxtail, fresh fries, stewed pork with onions, potato salad, some mystery brazilian salad (shredded chicken, raisins, peas, cubes of ham, onions in a mayo mixture, topped with crunchy Potato stix chips) and of course some brazilian meats! Yep, they have the famous brazilian meats on a stick. Chicken and ribs for me. Delicious, everything is simply delicious and well prepared. The buffet sides change all the time, so you can always try something new. Two huge plates of food, a water, and two cans of soda came to 29 bucks. Which is pretty good for all the food you get. We've visited this place on the recommendation of a friend and have been back a few times since... so i guess we are fans. Here is what you get. There are 3 options for the buffet. All salad bar, All meat bar or a mix. Personally, I like to get the mixed plate. The meats that we are aware of include - Flank steak, sirlon, chicken (i think it's usually dark meat), pork loin, chicken sausage, pork sausage, short rib, chicken heart, bacon wrapped turkey. I also feel like they have lamb, but i could be mistaken on that. I have to be honest that it is a bit of a hit or miss with everything for a number of reasons including, the time of day you go and the way the dish/meat was seasoned. But overall, for the price you pay, it's good and consistent enough. If you are in the neighborhood, stop by and try a little of everything then go back from more. read more

The place is full of portuguese speaking Brazilians and not only that an good alternative to AYCE Brazilian BBQ'S if you don't want to gorge yourself on food. Great selections on meat such as chicken heart and chicken wrapped in bacon as well as Rice and salads. They have Feijoda which is Brazil's national dish as well as seafood salad and yuca and all the goodies you can think of. There is also a seating area where you can sit down and chill out and watch soccer on t.v. I got some flank steak, some sirloin, some rasin pea rice, some Feijoda, a tad bit of beets and some Feijoda and BAM there you go, a nice hearty meal. For less than $25, two people were full, not ashamed of how much they are and enjoyed a coconut water to wash it down. The layout of the restaurant is buffet style with all the meats in a rotisserie cooker and then all the assorted sides such as rice, beans and salad along the side wall. You choose what you want and then bring your plate(s) and try to the register where you pay by the pound for the food you have selected. I recently came across this hidden gem in Astoria. Copacabana offers authentic Brazilian Food. The skirt steak is really good. I also had the ribs which were too salty for my liking. I asked the employee and she stated Brazilian Ribs tend to be salty. The sides are served buffet style and charged by the pound. Salad was truly very disappointing. A true brazilian knows their salad and the salads that was serve was cut too big in cube size and no taste(very disappointing in this.) Desert was the only Plus grade here. Decor - 3 of 5. Very Good clean place. Overall - 2 of 5. Conclusion - very disappointing after reading all the review about this place.
