Copper Canyon Cafe is the kind of restaurant where as soon as you walk in you feel at home. Not many restaurants can give me the comfortable vibes like Copper. The location is excellent for those working on the base. Anytime I'm on campus at UNM, there's only one place I know I'll always be satisfied with my meal, that's Copper. Gibson has a lot of restaurants but none that have the same quality, taste, and experience like Copper. The menu is a good size and has plenty of different tastes that can fulfill anything you are in the mood for. I have ate a variety of dishes and have been more than pleased with the portion size and the price, nothing beats big portions and fair prices. The breakfast has an array of options and you can't go wrong with any of them. If you thought Blake's Breakfast has the best breakfast burritos then you must be living under a rock and need to make your way to Copper Canyon Cafe. Lunch and dinner dishes are very tasty with a perfect kick if their spicy green and red chile. My dinner that I had (Steakchelada) had the prefect taste combination between the steak and enchiladas, the steak was cooked to the temperature I desired. To summarize: if you find yourself on this side of town and you want to eat amazing food at a good price and enjoy the friendly and homie service.. Then Copper Canyon is the place you should go to. Went in to this Copper Canyon Café on April 2. It was 220. We ordered nachos and an egg platter when my husband received his nachos there was very little beans and very little meat. I called the cashier and told her about this and she states that I should've asked for more beans And meat this is something I've never had to do and it's just unacceptable. The waitress did not come and check on us and we cashed out she didn't give us change when my husband asked for two fives or five and 51 she just gave us a 10 as we were finishing our drinks. Another woman came up to our booth and started vacuuming under my husband's feet Which was very rude when I called the cashier to let her know this she tells me that I should tell them not to vacuum around me or that I should ask for more beans and meat that's not customer service you should teach your employees right from wrong and the customer is always right. I have not done one thing wrong but try to enjoy a meal, I told her that I was going to put a review on yelp. She said she didn't care because there was a lot of good reviews which I don't see! disgusting behavior. read more

I haven't been to Copper Canyon for many years. Unfortunately, I've been back to ABQ twice in less than a month for the funerals for my grandparents. One of my cousins flew in for the funeral, so he and I decided to get breakfast, on our way to the airport. We had gone to Seferino's a few days before, so we wanted something different. I remembered going to Copper Canyon a few years ago, so I decided to give it a try. (My parents and I used to go quite often, but the manager left for another restaurant, so my parents followed her and stopped going to Copper Canyon.) Damián ordered the breakfast burrito with red chile. He devoured it, so I'm assuming that he liked it. Given the fact that he is usually talking and not eating, that speaks for the quality of the food. I ordered the enchiladas and eggs. I got the eggs scrambled, didn't want the potatoes or flour tortilla (gotta watch the carbs!). The enchiladas I got with green chile. I forgot how tasty their green chile was! I ate the enchiladas and the two eggs and I was done! I didn't even really touch the beans. I'm a beaner! So for me not to eat the beans was amazing. I was so full. The restaurant was an old IHOP, I think. There is a room in the back that can be shut off from the main part of the restaurant. Decor isn't anything special, but it is clean and not run down. I will have to visit again, when I return. I want to have the chicken fried steak with green chile again. Superb! Oh, and they gave us a discount since Damián is in the military. read more

This place has been around forever it seems. A nice hub for a meeting spot and a quick meal. Mexican food is pretty good and if that's not your flavor, there are plenty of options! Wait staff has never been rude nor complacent to our needs. The establishment is dated but that is not reflected on the meals that are carried out. This cafe has a wide variety on their menu. My experience there was not the best the cooks kept getting the orders wrong. When my meal came out I noticed my combo plate did not have the carne adobada or the papas she said it came with. The waitress said the cooks don't always put papas and it doesn't list is on the menu which was weird when I asked what sides came on the plate she mentioned papas. The waitress brought me a small cup of carne adobada they forgot along with a small sopapilla. As I ate my chile relleno I notice that most of the batter was raw so she took my plate back and brought me a new plate with the papas on it this time. I ate half of my chile relleno and again noticed all the raw batter still there. I didn't want to complain again for my plate to be made so I took the rest home and thew out the battered part of the relleno I had lost my appetite to eat anymore of the food. Just to warn others do not order the chile rellenos they will not cook it all the way. Everything else we has was good it just seems the cooks are in a hurry and throw together your plate. I would visit again to try something else on the menu because the prices are reasonable but just have to make sure the food is cooked right and that I got what I ordered. read more

Been here a few times, and have enjoyed it every time. The food is fresh and the plates are large. Got a huevos rancheros, came with beans and hashbrowns on a flour tortilla. Both red and green chile were tasty, but no heat. The hashbrowns were crispy on both sides. Jen got the mega burrito which was huge! They also had turkey sausage as an alternative. The beans were just so so. Would give it a solid 3 stars for the food, however the service and prices were great. Just 6.99 for each plate. I tend to forget this place is here, I need to remember it more often. It is clean inside and has a variety of fresh desserts which I have yet to have a chance to try. read more

This is a great little cafe'/diner and really convenient to base and perfect for lunch during my work week. They have daily specials plus their normal menu items (their fish taco special is very good). I have also been there for a breakfast once and it was also very good. They get a lot of customers from the VA Medical Center just across the street. I enjoying seeing all the Veterans, it gives me a warm fuzzy. Yesterday I went there with my husband and a co-worker for lunch and I had the California Avocado Wrap (but I requested it to be on the wheat bread instead) with the Green Chile Chicken soup. The soup was awesome and you could tell it was not out of can, prepared in house for sure. The sandwich was also very good, I could only eat half because I got full with my bowl of soup. If you are in the area of Gibson and Louisiana, stop by and enjoy a nice meal. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because, they could use a little renovation/update to the inside. Oh and they do have a room in the back you can reserve for small parties, looks like it could fit about 25 people. read more

Stopped in here on a recent business trip. Very laid back, casual atmosphere. I had a special - steak, baked potato, and side salad. The steak was seasoned and cooked well. My waitress was friendly and checked in but didn't hover. My only regret is that I didn't have room for dessert. I travel to Albuquerque a few times a year. So I've been here twice for breakfast and my honest review of the place is: meh. That's being completely honest. The decor and ambiance feels stuffy at best with muted pinks and greens. The menu I received this time was falling apart at one seem (I know my two whole readers of my reviews are like get of the menu rampage already!). But I dunno a menu says a lot about a place. The real testament of any restaurant is the food and it's here that I have no issue. The food is just what you'd get at any other diner. Just regular. Nothing special. That's not a bad thing if you're looking for a cheap easy meal. I had scrambled eggs, a slice of french toast, hash browns, and bacon ('merica!). None of it was greasy which is nice, but I did ask for my bacon ('merica!) crispy and it wasn't as done as I like it. No wiggle in that bacon ('merica!) and then its crispy enough. I digress. Alright, after spending 5 days at Kirtland AFB we ended up going to the Copper Canyon almost everyday, mostly for breakfast. In addition to my last review I ordered the breakfast burrito, the Ranchero Canyon omelette and the veggie omelette. All were large and quite tasty. Their staff continued to be friendly and attentive, the meals were served promptly and each time we were there they had a steady number of tables filled. Stopped in for breakfast this morning since we were across the street at the VA hospital. Nice clean, country-like atmosphere and we were greeted by the smell of bacon...yep, it was divine...and may have actually lured us from the hospital parking lot! The waitress must have seen us coming in from the outside, she politely showed us to the table where she had already placed two menu's for us, took our drink order and returned very quickly. The breakfast selection is great. Eggs, biscuits & gravy, pancakes, waffles, oatmeal..etc. For a southern boy like my husband...the biscuits and gravy were the obvious choice. I stayed true to my roots and had the Huevos Rancheros. After ordering our food, our meal was at our table within 10 minutes. I was impressed. My huevos came with whole pinto beans and a choice of either papitas or hash browns, I went with the hash browns. My eggs were cooked perfectly, I like mine over medium and the egg white has to be cooked! The beans were delicious...tasted home made and not from a can, seasoned very well. Green chile had grade flavor. I usually like my huevos on a corn tortilla, but at Copper Canyon they use flour (I'm sure you could substitute if you wanted too) and it was just as good. My hubby's biscuits and gravy meal was demolished in a matter of minutes...eggs scrambled and with that amazing bacon...I'd have to say this thick, crispy bacon was some of the best bacon I've ever had. And I love bacon. The gravy was southern-style...white gravy with pepper and the biscuits were a good size and fresh. Absolutely a great way to start the day...if you're over on Gibson west of the base...stop in and have a bite. You won't be disappointed! (they have free wi-fi too!) read more

This is your basic, run-of-the-mill diner. It just so happens to be in New Mexico and decorated appropriately. The green chiles were pretty good but aside from that, this place didn't make much of an impression on me. I had the canyon burger with an egg on it. We came for Mother's Day. We got seated and 5 min later someone asked us if we had gotten our drinks yet, which we had not. She took our drink order and brought them back. Took our order and left. Normal wait time for food so not a big deal. After we got our food the server never came back to check on us and never refilled our drinks. I felt like we were being rushed out. I still had food on my plate and someone was already trying to take it. We got our check and went up to the counter. We waited 5 min before someone even acknowledged us. There was a server that kept going behind the counter doing things and didn't say anything to us or tell us we'll be right with you. Well in a hurry and working close so jumped iin for lunch. Local crowd seems very nice. The crowd is on the upper end of the "who's good the most years under the belt". Kinda Dinner vIbe. They do breakfast till 2 and have lunch and dinner options it looked. One of those "everything has gravy" menus. Except the couple obligatory salads Um got breakfast biscuits and gravy Texas staple. We have jumped the boarder to NM so I'm holding the standard. Service is quicck aNd prices seem fair. Songs from the 60s and conversations are mostly medical conditions and home heat prices. My husband and I went in for the first time a couple of weeks ago. We were absolutely starving. Our server was amazing. We ordered an appetizer, dinner for both of us and dessert. We ate so much food and had leftovers for several days. The food was amazing even reheated (which is saying something). The atmosphere was so calm and relaxed. Our family of four walked in seconds before a ten-top and the waitress made sure our order went in first then took the time necessary for the ten-top. Went here for breakfast with 2 coworkers. It took a minute to get seated but thats fine because I'm a patient person. The waitress quickly brought us drinks- this is where it got bad. I should've inspected it because after taking a sip i noticed some tyoe of dark green/brown residue on the cup and it just so happened to be inside the cup. I felt pretty disrespected but also take some responsibility for not inspecting my drink first. If it were my wife's or my kids drink i would went off and we probably wouldn't have even waited for the food(we had already ordered before i noticed the booger) but i decided to wait until the food came. I got the Grand Canyon omelette with toast. The food was decent and it got me full. Some salt and pepper with hotsauce made the food better. The toast has butter on it and is ok for toast. Me being kind in nature still left a tip for the waitress but my buddy was pissed for me so he left nothing. A group of Greek-American men meet every Tuesday for lunch, today we met at this establishment across from the VA Hospital; Needless-to-say the menu was extensive with breakfast served all day! There were egg plates, skillets, Mexican breakfasts, burgers, sandwiches, combos, southwestern dishes, along with combos, omelettes, salads and specialties...! The service is professional and our water glasses were always filled, as I'm retired I had a glass of a fine red wine with my Relleno Plate, everyone else had some different. The owner visits with all the dinners to make sure everything they have been pleased with their orders and the service, a really classy establishment!!
