I came here for happy hour with a coworker and I loved it! Their happy hour menu has $6 moscow mules! So I got the moscow mule and the cheese board. The moscow mule was really good! Very light and refreshing. And the cheese board came with brie cheese, toaste, seasonal jam, dijon mustard, and artisan meats. Everything tasted well together! I really enjoyed the cheese board and a good snack after work. The service was great! And the place was pretty busy but I didn't have to wait for a table. Let me start by saying the Marriott Courtyard is fantastic. All the staff are very pleasant and helpful. The Copper Fox is just the opposite. We are staying at the hotel and, because it's raining, wanted to just grab dinner here. Host (Mr. vocal fry) said 20 minute wait. OK, fine. Asked if we can sit in the comfortable chair area. "No. I'm sorry." Asked if we can sit in closed dining room (first to eat, then to wait). "No. Manager said no. Here he is, ask him." We ask the manager, and he said "No, we only have one server." Ok, fine, but why doesn't the manager pitch in? Why doesn't the host or bartender? Anyway, both the host and manager had an attitude that they just didn't want us. Whatever. Walked two blocks to Gordon Ramsey's and, so far, so good. There are so many food options within a few blocks, you'd think this place would make more of an effort to compete. read more

Good lunch at the Copper Fox Gastropub. Looked on Yelp for a restaurant to have lunch at near our hotel and found this gastropub a short walk away. Upon walking in we thought it was going to be a bit pricy and bugee. We overused the menu and ordered a couple waters. They had some interesting dishes and a Yelp check in offer for the #16 Biscuits. We chose the baked Gouda mac and cheese which came topped with cheddar bread crumbs and a side of habanero hot sauce, and the prime steak sandwich served with house made chips. Both were delicious and a nice spicy kick with the hot sauce on the mac and cheese. After we ate our meal, I inquired about the Biscuits. They apologized and gave us a couple drinks while we waited. The maplewood fox IPA and mimosa went down just right after there meal. The Biscuits arrived and were served hot with honey butter. This was the final stop on our food tour and we were served a famous brownie. It was entirely too sweet for me plus it had carmel sauce. Just too much sugar. It gave me a headache. I did, however, like the modern interior and the bar. I would consider returning here for a drink during happy hour or maybe even dinner. The chef came out and talked to us and was very approachable. The food was good but the service was probably one of the worst experiences I have ever been subjected to. First of all, I spent years in retail and also as a waiter, so I understand the tribulations of customer service. But it started badly before we even ordered! The first person to interact with my group, which consisted of guests from all over the country, was a pleasant waitress who was dismissed publicly by Edward as he took over our table. We were surprised first by the dower facial expressions as the dinner progressed but when he brought our checks he threw them upon the table and disappeared. To make make the payment easier for him we split the meals costs equally, even though my actual amount was $40 less than with the split. If you want an enjoyable meal - go someplace else than Copperfox (even the busser was grumpy!). Not a good sign. read more

We were doing our annual staycation downtown and this is was one of the restaurants I selected since it was in walking distance from the hotel we were staying at. Didn't realize the restaurant was in a hotel until we got inside and saw the elevators. Décor was nice....brown/copper tones and understated. It has an upscale feel to it. Once we were seated, I noticed quite a few tables with kids there. Wasn't sure why they were there because the menu at first glance isn't kid friendly beyond the Gouda mac/cheese. But they must have a kid's menu on request as I saw wait staff bring out kid size portions of standard kid's fare to a table. There is also a very cute outside space with seating that didn't look too cramped, but it was too windy for us to sit out there. First the prices...for those complaining about the prices, these are downtown Chicago prices, so deal with it. Copper Fox was on par with other restaurants in the area. A decent price on the drinks as a glass of Prosecco was $9, $38 for the bottle. We started the meal with the #16 Biscuits. They came out in a small cast iron skillet. Whenever I see a cast iron skillet, I assume it is hot, but this was not. But the biscuits were and they were to die for. They're flaky, fluffy and crunchy all in the same bite. They are sprinkled with sea salt on top and due to the crunch, I assumed that they must be fried, but our server Lindsey stated that they are baked, but covered in bacon fat. So technically, they were baked, but with bacon fat covering them, they fried in the oven. There was honey butter, which was nice and added a subtle sweetness to contrast the sea salt. We also got the Calamari fries. I would go back just for these. They are strips that are cut from I have no idea part of the squid, but man they were delicious and meaty. The coating that was used to bread them was not heavy, but savory and tasty. Definitely more calamari than breading. They were paired with a nice tartar sauce and a cold grilled lemon. The grilled lemon was a nice touch as you got the citrus with a touch of smoke flavor to the fries. For dinner my daughter and I got the Baked Rigatoni Carbonara (parmesan cream, fennel sausage, snap pea, runny egg). Runny egg was done just nicely....no egg white to be seen. The parmesan cream sauce was a bit on the mild side for me, but a little salt and pepper at the table helped it along. Not much in the way of fennel sausage in the dish...looked as if it was added for flavor and not for eating. The sausage itself was delicious, just not enough of it in the dish. The snap peas were crunchy and tasty, but too many for me in the dish. This was more like a vegetarian dish with a little bit of meat for flavor. Probably not something I would order again. My husband had the fish tacos. Great presentation and he said that they were great in flavor. They are on the small side, which is why my husband got them as he eats light in the evening. They do not come with any sides, just the three tacos. Not sure why this isn't an appetizer as I don't consider this an entrée, so if you are hungry, I would stay away from these. My husband and daughter split the Nutella brownie...devoured it more like it. The brownie was served in a cold cast iron skillet, but it was warm and gooey as it was drizzled in caramel sauce. There was also a lovely vanilla bean gelato that was explosive in taste...very nice. My folks declared that the brownie was a sheer delight. I want to give our server Lindsey a 5/5. She was very attentive, friendly and bubbly. There was also a hostess that was on her A game as well. When she saw my husband needed another beer, she came over to ask if he needed another just a split second before Lindsey could do it. They seemed to have a good rapport and that was nice. I would more than likely stop here again for a meal, definitely to get the calamari fries and to try a burger as it looked very good from what I could see from other folks tables. Some of the salads I saw also looked worth exploring, especially the seven layered one. Food was fine, but it leaves a sour taste in my mouth when there's an offer on Open Table telling me I get a free appetizer for making a reservation on Open Table at the restaurant, with no limitations listed, only to get to Copper Fox and be told nope, not at happy hour. I wanted this to be better than it was! Super friendly when I called to make a reservation. I hadn't realized it was tucked into a hotel; there is a small area that seems to be part restaurant bar, part hotel bar that you have to walk past to locate the small host station. A check in offer of a free order of biscuits was promptly used - best part of the meal right there! Those are good! We also ordered deviled eggs as an appetizer. There's a small piece of andouille sausage that accompanies each egg that is an interesting contrast to the whipped filling. Our server's first stop at the table was to get drink and appetizer orders but she also asked for our entree order. I don't like feeling like I ended up at a diner when I'm out for a dinner in downtown Chicago so my feedback there would be to coach the staff to be a little more aware of the "relaxed, downtown setting" their website touts. That said, once we ordered it felt like it took ages for our dinner to arrive. My burger was cooked to the requested medium and the rosemary chips were a little overdone but i thought the hint of rosemary was perfect - that can be a pretty overpowering herb. The "white bbq" was an aioli in real life I believe? My sister loved the pork belly and grits but seemed underwhelmed by the fried avocado salad. The presentation on that one needed some work, though maybe there isn't an appetizing way to fry up chunks of avocado! May be a fun place to go share a bunch of apps and have a few beers after work, but I'll move on to the next option for dinner next time I'm in town. read more

For those trying to learn about the Copper Fox. First note that it is a restaurant found at the base of a Marriott. There's a hotel lobby that leads right into the restaurant. Copper Fox has its own entry which is unique, given that the hotel entrance is a few feet away on the corner. When I was walking down the street looking for the restaurant I was happily pleased to see their incognito advertising. An icon resembling a copper fox on the sides of their entrance. What are gastropubs? A venue the serves tasty food and drink. The plates will often contain rich, fatty ingredients meant to tantalize taste buds. This also means a few plates will carry a higher expense. If you've got the Yelp app loaded on your smartphone, you can check-in to receive an order of their flaky, buttery biscuits. One check-in will garnish a three piece order served with whipped butter. I was to meet a cousin and her bff for a lite bite before drinks the other night. She told me they were at the Hancock and wanted to meet closeby. She also rattled off a list of dietary restrictions. In such cases, meat is the best way to go. So I told them to meet here. For a Good Friday night, it wasn't swamped despite the bustle happening in the hotel lobby. Nice'ish place with modern decor. Uber nice for a hotel restaurant. Waitstaff was on top of their game seeing to our every need. (Side note, some table areas have plugs/usb for charging. However, you should have a cord.) I had a couple menu cocktails while the ladies ordered plates for sharing. I ordered for them based on the Copper fox's IG page. The one entree that was often pictured and struck intrigue was the pork porterhouse served with crispy brussels sprouts & chorizo cream sauce. The large piece of meat with bright orange colored sauce and hefty serving of veggies immediately drew attention from other tables. The ladies commented they were thrilled with the plate but wished there was more brussels sprouts. Note, they shared this plate. It would have been enough for one. We also got an order of the biscuits. Which are made with butter and are uber flaky. I cut one in half and then realized, if I could have something else with it.. a schmear or spread, that would heighten the taste. So I asked the waiter if she would try and bring us some preserves! She made it so. #Perfection Food, drink and service were great. Granted we had a few drinks and two plates. I came from church and had had a belly full of vegetarian food, otherwise I would have ordered a few more plates for tasting. If there was anything negative, one minute detail that cast a dark shadow on dinner, was this pernicious stink that attacked our nasal passages. And the topper; no one talked about it until we paid. (HA!) Even early on when I reached the table and sat with drinks. I smelled something terrible but couldn't distinguish where it was emanating. Once we paid and started walking back towards the lobby, we discovered what was creating the stinking odor. As mentioned earlier, the lobby was crowded. A hotel guest sat with her shoes removed and you could see people actively trying to avoid her. We were downwind of that, two rooms over and yet it still resonated. YUCK! When in the area and hosting peeps, I'd check them out again for small plates and drinks. read more

When we were visiting Chicago and staying at the Sheraton, I entered a search in Yelp for best gastropubs in Chicago and this gem came up. In addition, there was a Yelp check-in coupon for #16 biscuits - that was reason to come here by itself. Greg was our server and did an excellent job guiding us through the menu. We decided to make it an appetizer meal with a combination of Baked Gouda mac and cheese, Calamari fries, along with our free #16 biscuits. First, the biscuits came warm with a ramekin of butter and they were unbelievable, definitely a signature appetizer. To start, I had one of their Apex Predator Farmhouse Ale by Off Color Brewing. I also had a Krankshaft Kölsch by Metropolitan Brewing. Both were really good and with the appetizers, made for a filling late lunch. Great beer list and cocktail list, and great food. We'll keep this on our "go to" list next time in Chicago. read more

I am staying at the hotel and wanted to take my leftovers and my drink to my room, the staff was extremely rude and would not allow me to take a wine glass to my room. When I explained that I spend over 26 nights a year in Marriott hotels, they accused me of yelling at their staff and the manager immediately went to the Tony desk to complain about me. This is a pretty nice/classy place to eat. I was expecting a pub/bar place but this was like a nice hotel restaurant. Overall: 3.7/5 Value: 3.5/5. The food here isn't cheap. Sandwiches run around $15 and appetizers around $8. You do get a pretty big portion (I couldn't finish mine and packed it back :) ) but just be prepared to pay ~$20. Speed: 3.8/5. It wasn't super fast, wasn't super slow. Average sit down restaurant wait time. Atmosphere: 4.5/5. This place is real classy. Taste: 3.8/5. The sandwiches were good. I was very satisfied with my sandwich. Was it worth $15? I guess for the quantity maybe. I got the Brussel sprouts appetizer and it was good but a little too salty. The biscuits were also good and crispy but a little too salty. Very great location downtown not too far from Millennium park and other attractions! For all my fellow yelpers make sure to checkin when you get there to get a taste of the amazing biscuits. We made reservations but when we got there it wasn't too busy. Location is inside the hotel so just in case you find yourself a bit lost. Hostess was super friendly. I remember at one point I was searching for the restroom and she saw the look all over my face haha. Restrooms are very clean! Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. We ordered the moscow mules which were great! I will say the straws seem to be cut in half and very short. Would be nice to have straws a bit longer in length. I wish the biscuits had extra flavor and more moist, slightly dry. We had to pack on alot of the honey butter. I ordered the kale and brussel sprouts salad with Salmon. We did... -#16 Biscuits with whipped honey butter ~ light, fluffy, delicious, & FREE WITH YELP CHECK IN -Calamari Fries with citrus aioli & a charred lemon ~ probably my favorite of everything we ordered, as it was perfectly crispy and the aioli was great -Mac n Cheese ~ kind of disappointing and wasn't a big fan as the flavors were kind of flat -Fried Avocado Salad with tomatoes, candied jalapenos, pickled onions, corn, cotija cheese, and cholula ranch ~ surprisingly light and flavorful at the same time, but maybe a bit too ambitious with the jalapenos as it did get quite spicy with all of the jalapenos seeds -A side of Crispy Brussel Sprouts ~ similar flavor profile as the avocado salad as they had mixed in some of those tomatoes and candied jalapenos; just okay... For drinks, a limited 5 or 6 beers on tap for $7 a glass. Cocktails were surprisingly delicious as I did get to try their take on an old fashioned which had some nice herbal notes. Meh. I'm not usually into hotel restaurant/bars, but with all the rave reviews I decided to check it out. I will say the service was pretty great all around. But we didn't really like the food. Luckily we used the check in on Yelp for free biscuits because those were my favorite part! Otherwise they were out of mussels so we ended up ordering the kale brussel sprout salad and shrimp crab roll, which neither of us would order again. On the positive side, cocktails were pretty good and always came out quickly. Not a bad place for a drink if you're staying at the Marriott. read more

My review of Copper Fox is long overdue. Located in the lobby of the Courtyard Marriott hotel, this is a great lunch spot off Michigan Avenue. I have been here 4-5 times in the last few months. I invariably get the same thing - the seven layer chicken salad. When you see the pic and have had it once, I almost feel FOMO, not getting it again. The salad is 5 stars purely based on its presentation (look for my pic) and once you've had it with their pulled smoked chicken, avocado, corn and tomatoes you want to give it another 3 stars. Service is quick and friendly as it was today as well. They serve Starbucks drinks in the lobby and I almost get a coffee to go but you can order with your server and they'll bring it over to you and add to your lunch check. Great service! read more

I came here with my friend in the middle of the day for a rest stop and quick bite after touring Chicago. We sat in the back booth, where there was an outlet to charge my phone. The outlet was not working for some reason, so I asked the waiter about it. She ignored my comment and asked for drink orders. Did not even offer to help locate another outlet in the restaurant. I ended up finding another outlet that was farther away and plugged my phone there... Since we came in the middle of the day, we got to order off their happy hour deal. I ordered the most popular dish they have, three biscuits. My friend ordered the hamburger. I do not recommend biscuits as your main dish, maybe as an appetizer. Overall biscuits were very yummy. The bar area (there wasn't any other seating really available) was now empty and our food arrived fairly quickly. Chicken apparently was good, just served with some vegetables. My burger was ..... ehhh. A burger. The bun left a lot to be desired and the burger was a little over cooked. Certainly not great, so maybe still better than the steak? I'll never know. We came here because we didn't want to wait at Au cheval. The Creekstone Burger was pretty good quality but somehow underwhelming and not memorable. For $15, a Burger should be awesome. There are plenty of good places at or under that price point. This burger seemed so good from the description. The mac and cheese was really upscale with the Gouda cheese. I really liked that dish but it was a tad pricey for the amount you get. Overall it's a pretty cozy place but downtown has so much to offer. The restaurant itself is pretty nice and inside of a hotel lobby in downtown. They keep it warm and the bartenders are cool. read more

Somehow when we chose this restaurant we missed the fact that copper fox gastropub is in the bottom of a courtyard Marriott which was a turn off when we walked in. It was a fine meal. Weak menu with very odd appetizers ( everything was fried or fatty ). I did enjoy my scallops and husband thought salmon was ok. Service was good. Moderate prices. Restaurant was pretty elegant but every patron was wearing ratty sweats or t shirts making the whole experience seem less elegant for a Saturday night . The place is convenient if you are staying at the Courtyard Magnificent Mile in Chicago. It is part of the hotel. However, you must allow ample time to eat here as the service is extremely slow. The food is average - not great but not completely awful either. The service though is some of the worst we have gotten in a while. My husband and I went here twice for breakfast. The first time we were told up front that it'll be a while to get service as they were down to one waiter. The one waiter took our order relatively fast but then we waited more than an hour for the food to be brought out (oatmeal and an omelet) while watching many 3-4 person tables who arrived much later than us getting their food first. There was a rushed apology and nothing more. We didn't complain. The second time I did complain as the same story repeated - again, we waited for about 45 minutes for food while many tables got their order before us although they were seated much later than us. People were getting coffee and drink refills, we were ignored. They said a rushed apology (they said omelets take longer but I found it hard to believe that the 8+ people who got their food faster than us did not order one omelet) and promised that they would comp our meal and that everything would be complementary (this time we ordered avocado toast and an omelet). My husband waited for an extra 15 minutes for his toast to arrive and when it did (brought over by the manager who took my complaint), she pretty much threw it on the table and the butter dish fell face-down on the table making a mess. She brought us a new butter dish, but never cleaned the mess. At the end, we did get a bill - they charged my husband for the omelet and took my avocado toast off, but charges us for two coffees while we only ordered one. I let them know at the end after we paid that the bill was wrong still. They are just not with it. They seem very disjointed and disorganized. Of course, we were visiting Chicago for a couple of days and will probably never be back. But wanted to share our experience for others thinking about going here. What a lovely birthday celebration! As we were a larger party, we were sat at a table a little more removed from the rest of the space by a large wall of wine racks. It was lovely to feel like we had our own space and enjoy each other's company--not that the rest of the place was overly loud. Though our waittress missed a couple things through the night, she was really nice and accommodating. We were a big party that arrived at staggered times, so it's kind of understandable. The food and drinks were amazing. We all ordered various cocktails and entrees and all loved it. Biscuits are a must! The mac and cheese particularly stands out as being some of the best I've ever had. I added salmon to my risotto and it was cooked well. The My Jam cocktail was so good I had to order a second. Finally, the chocolate (flourless?) cake they brought out for my birthday was phenomenal. The next time I find myself in Streeterville again I'm making a beeline for Copper Fox.
