    All Hail Caesar salad

Cork & Gabel and the nearby businesses have a free shuttle to Ford Field for home Lions games, so Nate and I met up with a friend for brunch before hopping on the shuttle. The shuttle is included with the purchase of 2 drinks or you can buy a ticket for $5. The parking lot at Cork & Gabel is free to park in, and it was easy for us to get on the highway to head home after we got back. Super convenient and so much cheaper than paying for closer parking. Our shuttle driver Darryl was great and on time! We had an awesome server at Cork & Gabel and a tasty brunch. We were seated outside on the patio but they have a shaded area, which was nice for the 80 degree day! I got the Caesar salad which was perfectly dressed and had lots of cheese. Nate got the garden omelette, which was super tasty and had plenty of feta. I loved it. I did laugh at the potatoes because it was just 3 boiled baby red potatoes on the side - not really what I think of for breakfast potatoes but honestly the rest of the food was delicious. Drinks were strong and they had some interesting cocktails on their menu. Coffee was also available. I would definitely go here again even if we weren't in need of the shuttle!

I've eaten here twice now, and I have to say -- I love the vibe. This place sits right in the middle of a happening part of the Detroit scene. From the outside, you'll notice a big, heavy, very cool door -- almost hidden -- which adds to the speakeasy feel when you finally step inside. They have a great craft beer selection, too. I tried one that tasted exactly like Skittles -- playful, bright, and absolutely delicious. The fish and chips were a total home run: crispy, flavorful, and comforting in the best way. The little donut dessert was amazing -- light, warm, and addicting. And don't even get me started on the chicken pasta... truly to die for. Every dish hit the mark. Its location is special as well -- just down from the old Tiger Stadium and right across from the beautifully restored Michigan Central Train Station, which makes a stunning backdrop for your dining experience. They also have a very cool outdoor space that looks perfect for private parties -- hip, spacious, and stylish. Bonus: they offer private parking, which is a huge win in this area. I honestly can't wait to go back. Great food, great vibe, and a slice of Detroit energy done right.

Great place, as always, even when Janelle and her drunken friends cause a big ruckus and start swearing at staff. I felt bad for some of the more level headed members of her group. Staff handled the incident quite well. Honestly, this place is great!

Went there last night for the first time. Had the Salmon. After a few bites I realized it was way undercooked. I left it on the plate; the waitress was oblivious. Won't be back.

Dinner with the in-laws was a blast here! The service was very prompt and food was very well made. I enjoyed that the space was dimly lit and the architecture was really cool to look at! I got a burger and fries, which was pretty good. Others at the table got the tortellini special and fish and chips, both were generous portions and delicious! Will definitely have to come back this summer to check out the cute patio area.

    Calamari - very good

My wife and I came here for an early dinner ahead of a Tigers game. We were about 50/50 on liking this place. My wife had the Cajun beef tips, which she loved. Great flavor and a very large portion - she couldn't eat it all. I, on the other hand, ordered the Schnitzel BLT, mainly because I wouldn't get this meal anywhere else. Was hoping for something wonderful but was left deeply unimpressed. The bread was burnt and the sandwich itself was incredibly dry. I mean DRY. In order for me to consume it, I had to deconstruct the entire thing and just ate the schnitzel and bacon. Lesson learned. We also had the calamari as an appetizer, which we both liked. The bartenders were friendly and responsive and the place is pretty cool inside, but this was a 1 and done for me. Regarding the business reaching out...I was not asked if I wanted something different. I was told however 'you should have told me'. I was hungry so I wasn't looking for a replacement. Perhaps someone should have noticed the black crust before bringing it out? Just a thought. Appreciate the quick response though. Thanks for that

I enjoyed my experience at cork and gabel . It was a busy football game day. Standard setting with a lot of brown wood. My food was delicious and the spread for my toast tasted homemade in the best possible way. Everything was fresh and my mimosa with ginger was outstanding!!! I forgot to grab photos of my food but my western omelette was super tasty.

Fantastic food! I loved the lamb bolognese. Wow!!!! Perfection! The sauce is incredible. The citrus cream on top was lovely. My friend enjoyed her döner kebab and fries. Delicious cocktails. I had the Two Pumps and my friend had the She Told Me She Loves Me and we enjoyed both. The servings are generous so we didn't need an appetizer. I appreciate the free parking lot. Great location in Corktown, right by the Michigan Central Station. Spacious interior. There is a back room in case the main room fills up. Cozy vibes with warm lighting. Courtney provided excellent service and made great recommendations. I look forward to coming back.

The food here is to die for. Favorite brunch spot in Detroit. Great atmosphere and very good prices for quality of service and food. Would be good for a group as well as they have a large space.

Stopped by the Cork & Gabel for dinner after visiting the train station. The server was very attentive and accommodating! The pretzel appetizer and salad tasted delicious! There was background music but it did not make it difficult to hear our conversation!

Very disappointing first experience…read more My companion and I visited McShane's in Corktown for the first time and sat down at the bar. We waited approximately 3-4 minutes while the bartender talked with other staff and lingered nearby. During that time, he never acknowledged us, never made eye contact, never said "I'll be right with you," and never asked if we wanted anything to drink. He was close enough to know we were there, and we were clearly new customers sitting at the bar with no drinks in front of us. After waiting without even a simple greeting, we decided to leave and try the outdoor bar instead. I asked the bartender outside if he was the bartender, and he said yes. He remained seated, continued talking with a group of women, and again made no effort to ask what we wanted or explain how service worked. I even mentioned that we were new there, but that didn't change anything. At that point, we decided to leave altogether. As we were leaving, instead of trying to help or understand why we were walking away, the interaction became dismissive and argumentative. I don't expect instant service, especially if a bar is busy. I do expect the basic courtesy of being acknowledged. A simple "I'll be with you in a minute" would have been enough. Instead, we were left feeling unwelcome and ignored by two different bartenders. We took our business elsewhere, and unfortunately, our first impression of McShane's was that new customers simply weren't a priority.

The…read moremenu for this restaurant falls along the lines of an expanded bar/Bistro menu with a heavy emphasis on sandwiches, wraps and burgers. Having heard good things about their Burgers I opted to go with their Classic Cheeseburger and fries for $15 and two of their house margarita's which were the drink of the day on Tuesdays for $5 apiece. Realtive to the burger, it was quite large at 1/2 lb and definately a two hander. It was well made, quite juicy, with fresh veggies and very very tasty. The fries were well made as well with a nice crunchy texture and quite tasty in their own right. Lastly my two Margarita's very well made and oh so good where I had only planned on getting one but opted for two after the first sip. NICE! At $5 a piece this was an absolute steal! Relative to facility and staff, the restaurant is visually very appealing with vibrant Irish accents, neon sign's everywhere and TV's scattered to allow you to watch the big game of the day while enjoying your meal. The decor defiantely adds a lot to the dining experience. Staff was very friendly with great follow up throughout. Overall this is a great bar/restaurant whose reputation is well deserved. I definately will be returning in the near future, probably on a Tuesday, so I can get some more of those tasty margarita's. :)

Since there were 4 of us we were able to order a bunch of stuff to share and have a taste of everything (my preferred way of dining out). You put in your entire order at once and the serve will course it out so it worked out perfectly for our group! Among so many interesting dishes I think the standouts were the carrot steak and the mushroom fettuccine! But honestly everything we ordered was good! I think the steak tartare was the only thing that was slightly underwhelming; I don't think it was super flavorful. We also got the potato donuts for dessert and those were fantastic and had such a great texture. The restaurant itself was gorgeous and felt really nice and intimate without ever feeling unapproachable. Our servers were great but it definitely felt like they were understaffed since there were a few times we wanted to ask a question or order more drinks and couldn't find anyone.
