Paid a visit to CnC for the first time recently for my wife's birthday. We had a reservation for 4 on a Wednesday at 7pm, about a week in advance - no problem. I actually didn't realize where this place was, and wasn't sure what to expect. The parking lot is small, and not super easy to get to if you don't know what you're doin. Easiest way if you're on I69 is to go south on Coldwater Rd, then turn right on Washington Center. The interior of the restaurant is pretty awesome - the lighting is low, the doorways are arched, and the place feels high class without the privilege or pretentiousness. There are several "smaller rooms", so it's not a loud restaurant. The server we had was excellent. She was attentive, friendly, but not pushy. The food: I had the coffee crusted ribeye - it was excellent. I asked for medium rare on the medium side, and it was cooked perfectly. The steak came with a side (I had a baked potato, which was fine), and a soup or salad bar. Having heard about the salad bar from friends, I opted for that option and it didn't disappoint. The salad bar had several different lettuces, cheeses, dressings, and other toppers. One of the better dinner salads I've had. My wife had the filet and bisque, which she was happy with, and we shared the mushroom appetizer, which was very cheesy and tasted great. Since it was my wife's birthday, our server provided a piece of their signature mud pie on the house. The slice of pie was huge - could have fed 3 or 4 people easily. It was a nice touch. Overall, we probably won't frequent the CnC, but mainly because it's fairly expensive and a little out of our way. But, we highly recommend it for a great steak (hard to find in the Fort) and salad. Hands down 5 out of 5. The food, atmosphere, and drinks were perfect. My team and I went To dinner there after working an event at Coyote Creek Golf Course. Our waitress couldn't have been nicer or more on top of it. They were so quick with getting us some waters and drinks as soon as we sat down. The menu being a cleaver is such a unique idea. One that I have never seen at a restaurant before. I ordered the espresso martini. It was the perfect blend of espresso and vodka. It was also a decent size. Before dinner, I checked out the salad bar. I am a sucker for a salad bar that has all the options. Let me tell ya, they didn't forget anything in this salad bar. The jelly beans at the end was amazing. Great conversation starter with some of the staff and so unique. For dinner, I had the 7 ounce filet. It was cooked to absolute perfection. It was just red in the inside with some of the juice. The flavor on it was delicious. I also had a baked potato with the stake which was the perfect side. For dessert, we had the mocha ice cream cake. The slice was a perfect size for 4 people. It came with some whip cream and almond shaved which was the perfect light dessert to end the night. Cork N' Cleaver is a family favorite for special occasions. Their salad bar is only matched by Trolley Bar in town. They have everything-- including caviar, anchovies, jelly beans, & so much more! They also bring amazing bread with a whipped honey butter before your meal. Main course wise, everything I've had is good, from the scallops to prime rib to the center cut. Dessert-- the mud pie is a must (but be prepared to share). Service is always great, and atmosphere is unique. I have never had a good experience with the food here. Everyone at my table of 6 who got chicken all had very dry chicken. The salad bar was small for as much hype as it gets. Do not get the raspberry dressing. I made the mistake thinking it was a raspberry vinaigrette and it was practically a raspberry jelly. Will not be coming back or recommending. read more

Gluten Free Review: I asked the waitress about a Gluten Free menu, and was told they don't have one. She was very helpful, however, in many items that would be safe for me to eat. (Stay away from all teriyaki and salad dressings except oil/vinegar and French). I ordered the 6 oz filet; baked potato with butter, sour cream and chives; grilled onion; and salad bar. Also a glass of Reisling. At the salad bar I chose fresh vegetables, fruit, cottage cheese, and French Dressing. Happily, I had no reaction. Eating it is so stressful, trying to avoid a gluten reaction. This was a huge relief for me! Other notes: Sat in the lounge-- it was far from the salad bar, but a great table. Food was great, steak prepared perfectly. Waitress was slightly absent when wanting to reorder drinks. Decor is outdated, and in need of a good once over. I love the architecture, but the upholstery is just a little stuck in the past. I will return for sure. A staple from my childhood remains a favorite. read more

A fun spot with great drinks and service. They actually give you a cleaver with the menu on it and the coat check was a nice surprise with the cold weather. Everything was cooked just the way we asked and the salad bar offered a little of everything. The French onion was delicious and I definitely recommend the sauté onions with your steak. read more

My in-laws were celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary and invited us to join them at Cork N' Clever. My wife and I were very excited to eat at this longtime high end steakhouse. Unfortunately, expectations were not met. The table where we were sat was OK (front room) and atmosphere was OK (smooth jazz music and soft lighting). My biggest beef was the server, who spoke to us in a singy-songy voice as if she was on stage....almost fake. Plus, she tended to 'helicopter' us and at one point tried to remove 2 salads before they were finished. We ordered cocktails and was stunned that the server has no idea what VO is, as requested by my mother in law for a drink. We ended up ordering 3 Manhattans and a vodka martini for my father-in law. When the drinks were served, the Manhattan has no cherries. What? A supposed high end restaurant and the bartender doesn't knowhow to create a proper Manhattan??? As for the food, we ordered shrimp cocktail and were served a dozen small, food service shrimp on a china platter with a small dish of cocktail sauce and a small dish of horseradish. One would think that a restaurant presenting itself as high end would serve JUMBO shrimp and a better presentation. FAIL. The entrees were good all around the table...filet was awesome according to my father in law, my mother in law loved the salmon and my wife enjoyed the filet beef tips. And my New York strip was divine...cooked perfectly! My advice? Decent food...so so cocktails and hovering servers. Definitely dine there but set your expectations low. read more

First time I've been back in a couple of years. Let's start by saying it was a disappointment. We went there as my choice to celebrate my birthday. They no longer have the salad bar. I understand it may return at some point. That's why patrons go to this restaurant. They no longer have french onion soup. The crab cakes were hard. The prime rib was mediocre. They still offer the mud pie for birthdays and anniversaries. The waitress was not friendly and made the excuse that they are still trying to hire servers and staff. A north side classic. Cork and Cleaver is one of the finest dining establishments in Fort Wayne. Great for business lunch, dinner, special occasions, and group events can also be accommodated. If you're from here you know 2 things: 1.) the salad bar is the best in the city. 2.) the menu is on an actual cleaver. If you're visiting, get the salad bar with your entree, you have to experience this if you only come once. Caviar, sardines, all sorts of cheeses, 4 types of greens for salad, pasta salad, artichokes, etc. for my money you can also get a pretty good steak here, and it comes at a good value. They also make some pretty solid cocktails. Call in for a reservation ahead of time, you'll probably need one. read more

You can never go wrong with a meal from here. The downside is you must make a reservation otherwise good luck getting a table simply by walking in. The other downside is I have been a time or two where the service was downright snooty. I am not sure if they portrayed me as someone who wouldn't tip well or just had an off day but it wasn't a Fun experience either way. On that note 98% of the time I have gone the service has been great. Making a reservation is fairly simple and most times They have spots open but there are those busy times that fill up quickly. Reservations can be made for the bar dinning or main dinning area. The bar is retro cool and has some intimate seating but can be noisy as the actual bar rail is close by. Service is just as good in either area. They offer daily specials and their standard cleaver menu items that haven't changed in prob 20 years. I can't forget to mention their salad bar it's honestly the best in Fort Wayne and is really something that can fill you up. Be prepared to stand in line for your salad because it's a small area and it gets busy-it's that good!! You can choose their soups instead but In my opinion they aren't very well put together and often come out like warm and meh tasting. Other meh tasting items are their chicken entrees and I have had an occasional seafood special of the day entree that was mediocre too. The steaks are top notch as well as their shrimp appetizers. And the famous mud pie dessert is to die for over and over again. Another to die for item they serve is a cocktail, or after dinner cocktail, called PIMA. stands for pain in my ass. I am not sure what it all has in it but one or two makes you feel warm and toasty deep in your soul. So tasty and I highly suggest ordering one when you have completed your meal. Another awesome adult beverage they make is a Dirty Martini. The blue cheese olives are hand stuffed on site and it's worth ordering one just for those scrumptious olives. Oh yum!!! There are many things to love about this place and keeps you coming back. Mostly it's the food. Others say it's the salad bar and most people say it's the service. I vote for the salad bar! They are also open for lunch hours too. I recommend going. It's def a date night, special occasion kinda place but it's for sure a once in a lifetime of living in the Fort experience. read more

Hadn't been here since before Covid. It was everything I remembered and more! Our server Allison (Allie) was incredible. She knew the menu very well and made several good suggestions. She had a good knowledge of the wine list as well. I had the filet mignon and my husband had the salmon - they were both cooked just right. The salad bar was, as usual, very good. It was not too loud and we had a very nice romantic evening. All in all I would recommend this restaurant to anyone unsure. It is not the cheapest but you definitely get what you pay for. I had dinner with another couple on a Friday night around 6 PM. Off street parking was available and when you walk in, you can tell right away it is classy place. The décor is very warm with tables, fireplace and a country or rustic theme. Cloth napkins, great wine and spirit collection and draught beer (+1). The menu is cleverly put on a meat cleaver (no sharp edges though ). They have a great salad bar that comes with your meal or you can chose the soup of the day; which was clam chowder and it was excellent. I had the blackened Mahi Mahi and my guest had the Halibut. Our other guests had the filets. The one thing that struck me when my meal came is it was very hot as were the other meals, it did not sit on the chefs table long. Our fish was cooked perfectly and our guest commented that the restaurant ALWAYS cooks the steak perfectly. That is good because she wanted hers, medium well medium; just some pink but no blood and that is what she got. We ordered a bottle of wine that was a "screw cap" which we did not know. That would be a disappointment if I had a date and was trying to impress her; screw caps on an ordered bottle of wine, just seem wrong LOL. The service and meals were excellent and are right up there if you like Ruth Chris or Morton's Steak Houses but I think a little more reasonably priced.
