Finally got to try this newer Ethan Stowell restaurant. It was fairly easy to make a reservation here for a large party during a week night, even the night before, which was great. Overall, our dining experience, from service to food to ambiance, was very solid but nothing super stand out. As for food, we tried a bunch of items but my favorites were the Prosciutto di Parma (SO smooth!) and Gnocchi al Telefonica (has a bit of a kick!). The Linguine Nero was a disappointment unfortunately. I was optimistic after reading reviews but after eating it, the flavor was really one-dimensional and lacking for me. There was also maybe only 2 small pieces of lobster. The breadcrumbs gave it a nice texture though. My colleague had the Tonarelli Carbonara, which was good but not your traditional carbonara. This version is actually a bit lighter and less rich than most carbonaras I've eaten. Sometimes they are so rich you can't eat much. That isn't the case here. However, the pasta is thicker so that will fill you up quickly! read more

This rating and review is in regards to their coffee bar at Two Union. TERRIBLE AND LACKING SERVICE... How can the service be HORRIBLE if there are 4-5 people working and NO line?!? I was standing there waiting after the girl helped the 2 people in front of me. She NEVER came back to help me. They were walking in circles and not one of them were at the registers. Still no line but me patiently waiting at the register wanting to place my order. Now 2-3 more employees show up....now there is a line behind me...still waiting for service...as I decide I've waited WAY too long and leave the line, ONE of the employees FINALLY approached the line and asks if any of us needs help... It's new, I get it...but it's ruined it for me. I won't be back and I've told my office to expect or not expect any service. Client FTW!! After eating at a different restaurant a client recommended going to Cortina as his friend owns the restaurant. And I am not even trying to suck up to the client to the owner, anything. For those of you who don't know, I am an Italian food snob because for the most part, it is not the most difficult dish to make (usually). But if everything is by hand... holy crapoli batman. It takes it to a crazy level. Cortina delivered. The starter pizza was delicious and not too expensive (take everything with a grain of salt because I wasn't paying). Crust was crispy and soft. Noodles - I tried a little bit of everything and will have to say as a summary for all of them, they were perfectly cooked to melt in your mouth deliciousness. My favorite was the gnocchi I don't know I just felt like I was in Italy. And by Italy I mean the United States, wait what? Here is the dishes in order of best to worst (nothing less than good most everything was great) Gnocchi with red sauce - Sauce was amazing and classy. Spaghetti and meatballs - the classic dish cooked to perfection. Meatballs were juicy and tender and paired well with the read sauce. Gnocchi with black stuff - I really like the gnocchi, but the sauce on this not so much but hey we were trying everything for you guys. Egg on top noodles - I hate raw egg the only reason this gets knocked to near bottom. Squid noodles - Great but honestly they aren't squid noodles they just look that way... my eyes couldn't get past that. Dessert - Canoli didn't do it for me. Chocolate pudding was oh so delightful and I wish we would have got two of these. THE VERDICT: It is new and I haven't been to many restaurants in Seattle but this is the one that I will for sure return to. First time in Seattle. Last time at this place! Made reservations ahead of time for a party of 8 on a Tuesday night. The restaurant overall is very clean, modern and open concept. We ordered multiple apps and in one of the apps we saw a dead fly at the bottom of the bowl.. When we made the waiter aware she apologized and they only took off less than 10 dollars. Meh, just couldn't get excited about this place despite the funky design and appealing menu. Service was friendly, though it took forever to flag someone down to order more drinks. The bar seemed to be a little understaffed for the crowd because they took longer than I would have imagined to arrive. Food was hit or miss. - Tried two of their cocktails- a rif on the negroni called the Tempest ($13) was served looking half empty- especially when compared to the same drink ordered by my dining companion. My second drink was The Cortina, a manhattan-style drink. It was a decent-sized pour and tasted fine, but not worth $16. - Grilled octopus ($16) was terribly overcooked and the cubes of melon it came with looked and tasted like they had been sitting in water. - Fries ($8) were forgettable and the aioli didn't taste much like parm or garlic - Smoked fish bruschetta ($14) tasted ok, but was a mess to cut and difficult to eat. Perhaps the bread would have been better with a bit of a toasting? - Treviso salad ($14) was the best of the bunch with fresh veg and good cheese. Though I love dates, I didn't quite understand how they fit into this caesar salad. - Grilled castelfranco ($13) was kind of mushy. - Bucatini ($23) and linguini nero ($26) pastas were both cooked well, but honestly didn't think either was worth the price. - My friends liked the Staple & Fancy pizza, but I was sad about the super crispy zucca ($19) which was dry/crunchy missing the honey. - Desserts were not much better. The tiramisu ($11) served in a cup, not classic-style and lemon tart ($11) were both pretty, but forgettable. Credit to the restaurant for having a friendly staff and for not making us feel rushed through dinner. What an amazing little place! My coworkers and I stopped in tonight and were blown away. After a long time of battling over what to get, we settled for a margherita pizza, bucatini and gnocchi - which were all so delicious. But what really sold us was the top notch service. Wishing we could have gotten our server's name! He was so personable and made us feel so at home - and clearly had good suggestions for our meals! Welcome new spot!! They did a makeover or what!! The old Sullivan got a major makeover. Once what was an older, classic steak house style spot got a cool new modern make over. Stunning wood, floor to ceiling glass, so much more open! And bright!! A little too bright!! It is gorgeous though! And the menu has a mix of Ethan Stowell's other spots: hamachi crudo, beet salad with dungeoness crab like Gold finch! And pizza & pasta! Which he doesn't have it at gold finch!!! It's a mix of all the top dishes in one!! What's not to like! Happy hour is 3-6 pm. The prices for items are around 20% off I believe. You get the same big portions, no HH sizes. Pretty good. The burrata: usually it's my favorite dish was on the smaller side. Still good. Not the big homemade one as I'm used to back in Italy. But it's still good. The vegetable that came with it was a bit hard to eat! The beef tartare was beautiful. I debated this and the octopus but glad I went with this! It's delicious! Loved it! Bucatini!! With meatballs!! A little too soft ( not al dente) for me but it's a massive size serving!! With a pretty massive bucatinis!! On happy hour for $12 is a good deal. Now the drinks! Their Italian sodas are gorgeous!!! And delicious!! I had their gin cocktail. It was refreshing! But the Tina! If you want a kick, that's the drink!! And the sodas just go down so easy!!! Place fills up pretty fast too!! I normally don't leave reviews but the experience at Cortina was so bad I felt it important to share. We had reservations for Valentine's Day for their pre fix four course menu ($95/person). We were promptly seated (8pm) and placed our drink order immediately which came out fast. Unfortunately, that the highlight of the meal as the rest of the night went down hill fairly quickly. It took twenty minutes for our waiter to take our order and another twenty minutes to get our first course (reminder: it was a set menu) Both the salad and the soup were good. For the second course, which came out after 9pm, my husband ordered the crab pasta when it came out there was no crab but shrimp. When we asked our waiter he insisted that there was crab in the pasta but it was cut up extremely small. We are foodies and I'm a pretty good cook myself...there wasn't any crab in the pasta! He later came back and admitted that the kitchen ran out of crab so they sub the shrimp but no one told him in advance (dude you have eyes and it's a set menu). We waited another 30 minutes to get our third course which came out around 10pm. At this point we were tired and asked if we can just pack up the dessert to go (one chocolate option and one almond cake). Well, we finally got the check and our to go dessert at 10:36pm! We paid for our meal and the 22% gratuity/service charge which was already included in the bill. I looked in the to go bag to find two almond cakes...I tell our waiter that we had ordered one chocolate cake and he said they ran out so he made an executive decision. Well, my husband is allergic to nuts! Exhausted we just left. I understand that the kitchen can get backed up but there was no acknowledgment or apology by the wait staff. Everyone we were sitting around was in complete shock and we all laughed about the fact that we felt we were in purgatory. Literally, it was a four course meal that included 22% service fee...there was nothing we could do except sit there and wait for two and a half hours. The wait staff were nice but lacked the experience to make guest feel at ease even though behind the scene everything is blowing up. We were never asked if we wanted to order another drink or offered a complimentary drink for the wait. These are the details that make a restaurant worthy of charging more. Oh, and all of the food was just okay, like barely okay. We've been to other ES restaurants, Red Cow being one of our favorites and this place just missed the mark. read more

Amazing in every way .....The food, the vibe, and the bar drinks. We started with the Bruschetta and really enjoyed it. All the ingredients are so fresh and it really makes the difference . We decided to order the margarita pizza before our main course because we heard it was great and wanted to try it. It was delicious! It focuses more on the fresh tomatoes than the cheese. Because we were pretty full I ordered the gazpacho and my boyfriend ordered gnocchi. The gazpacho was so different and delicious!!! The best I have ever had and the Gnocchi was so yummy but couldn't finish it. We had wine and bar drinks as well . Great place , very reasonable for what it is. Stopped by Cortina prior to our show at the 5th Ave theatre. Very convenient as it's just around the corner. We weren't hungry so we opted for drinks only. I ordered the happy hour red (decent); a friend ordered a dry martini (and she remarked how perfect it was), and another friend ordered a house cocktail, Behind the Green Door, which is gin, lemon, cucumber, elderflower, rosemary, and celery bitters. I had a sip, and it's definitely refreshing, but perhaps better on a summer's day. The food smelled and looked delicious, so I'll definitely be back to try that. We were in Seattle on business and met up with local friends for dinner. The restaurant was not busy at all and we were seated right away. Our service was good, very attentive waitress. It was happy hour so thought we would take advantage of the happy hour specials. Very underwhelming and expensive. I would hate to see what regular pricing was! 3 meatballs for $15.00, and they were not very flavorful. We had the Rigatoni and Strozzareti as well. Both were also very bland. Very underwhelming food experience and then the bill was crazy, even included a surcharge for "rising cost of good and non-labor expenses 100% of this surcharge is retained by the restaurant" We went to many other restaurants during our stay and this was by far the worse. read more

Service: To start off, we made a reservation ahead of time through Yelp, but when we arrived ON TIME they said they had no record of our reservation. It wasn't a huge problem, though, because we were a party of two and they had plenty of seating open. We were seated at about 7:35pm and ordered at 7:45pm. We only ordered one appetizer and two entrees--the appetizer arrived about five minutes after ordering, but we did not receive the entrees for another 40 minutes. For a restaurant that was probably only about 40% occupied, it felt like an excessive wait. Also not sure if this was significant or not, but one thing we noticed is that each time someone came to take our order/check in on us, it was a different person each time. Food: The food was actually pretty good. We got the focaccia for appetizer, and the gnocchi and the rigatoni. Ambiance: Simple and elegant. In fairness, I would give 3.5 stars, but the wait time for two pastas was actually pretty ridiculous. Even with the good food, I probably won't be back. read more

The location is great if you want to have dinner before a performance at the 5th Avenue or ACT theaters. The food is well prepared and the service, while slow, is attentive without being smarmy. The décor is smart and mod, yet you can still have a conversation without a lot of background noise. So why the 2-star rating? It's simply the prices. This is one of the most overpriced restaurants in Seattle (and that's saying a lot). Simple pasta dishes with no sides will cost you $25-30. A pork chop with polenta will set you back $45. Then add the 22% mandatory gratuity charge, and plan on spending at least $75 per person to eat here. It just isn't worth it. The reason we ate here is because we were going to the theatre with a person with walking disabilities. If your feet are fit, consider somewhere else. read more

I came here on my anniversary weekend with my boyfriend because I was craving pasta. The appetizers here looked sooooo good and the dining atmosphere looked very modern and simple -- both wins in my book. Upon arriving, the reservation I made through yelp fell through but fortunately we were able to get seated right away. My bf and I ordered a TON of things, our server (who was super nice and friendly) even joked around thinking we couldn't finish. If I remember correctly, we ordered the bruschetta, beef tartare, fries, and two pastas and drinks. The wrong bruschetta came out so we actually had two at our table. While I can say the appetizers were absolutely amazing, the pasta as okay at best. At the time, I considered coming back just for the appetizers. Now why do I give my experience three stars? I woke up at 5am the next morning with food poisoning and again 3 hours later throwing up everything I had in my stomach. I've never had food poisoning before so it was absolutely brutal. Suffice it to say, my boyfriend ate all the same things I did and he was totally fine. The only difference was that I ate the carbonara and he had the rigatoni. Although having a shitty experience afterward (literally), I would recommend this restaurant to others but not entirely sure I would come back. read more

Lucky me, showed up at 5:30 and it was happy hour. The HR menu is amazing with great full size options. Had the Burrata with olives for $8 and it was delicious and a large serving. Then had the pasta with pepper and parmesan $12. Super simple, clean and flavorful. Generous portion, I could only eat about half of it. Also, the service was perfect. Super attentive, without being overbearing. Highly recommend you check this place out.. Final thought, love the atmosphere. Honestly the food was really good, but due to the service I don't think I'd come again. For a nice restaurant we were pretty disappointed with service. We made the mistake of saying "no" when asked if we had a show to get to- and proceeded to sit for 45 minutes waiting for our food while two other tables beside us sat down, and received two courses in the time we waited for one. We had a reservation and we weren't in a rush, but a 2 hour meal when everyone else was in and out in under an hour was disappointing. We are fairly certain our order got pushed behind EVERYONE going to a show- one or two in a rush wouldn't have been a big deal, but that was a really long time! Also, no one even noticed it had been that long- not even a "sorry for the bit of a wait". But the food was good! We got the burratta, bruschetta, and ravioli and al were really tasty! I'd say average to smal portion size which is fine because they're all pretty rich food I'm not sure I could have eaten more of it (or I was full on water from my free time, you decide). All in all, maybe it was our server, maybe it was an extra busy night? Not sure but I likely wouldn't be back or recommend to a friend based on our experience. read more

This place is one of the few which manages to have a slightly casual vibe inspite of such a classy decor. The place is really well lit and is ideal for groups. Their menu is short which I really like. The food is really good as well. I went with a large group and was able to get reservations for Friday night easily. They don't have parking but you can always find street parking close by. I got to try their linguine Nero, gnocchi and my husband got their burger. For appetizers we got their focaccia, white bean bruschetta and their fries. The appetizers were decent. Fires were a little over seasoned and the focaccia would have been better if it was warm. Loved their bruschetta though, many textures and flavors. Their gnocchi was delicious, creamy, pillowy and cheesy. Most of our group got this and really liked it. I got their linguine Nero and really liked it. It's just a tad too sour. I think the peppers is what makes it so, if I knew I would have got mine without the peppers. The crab and the pasta itself is delicious though! My husband loved his burger. Perfect cook, perfect flavor. The drinks are unique. They do serve usual versions of the drinks if you ask though. Incredibly welcomed by everyone from hostesses to waiter and bar staff. They have a huge bar area and this will be THE place to go if you work nearby. It is a little bit of a hunt if you enter the building from 6th Ave. I shared an evening for dinner with 3 of my coworkers and we were all pleased with the ambiance, decor, service, and food. Appetizers we shared: Castelvetrano olives with orange, garlic, and chili. Nice little spice and sweetness. My favorite olives, ever! Burrata with charred rapini, calabrina chili, fried garlic and served with a few well-toasted baguette slices. Delightfully light and creamy. Peperonata Bruschetta with caciocavallo and olive oil. Robust, hearty flavor. There were 3 slices to an order so we had to split it up a bit. I would have gladly eaten the whole plate by myself. Beef tartar with oyster vinaigrette, horseradish, parsley, also served with toasted baguette slices. Not usually a fan, but this was well-seasoned and easy to eat. Mains: Pappardelle - beef and pork ragu, tomato, chili, oregano. This was good, but not great. Somewhat flat on flavor and very pasta forward (yeah, I know that it's a pasta dish). The pasta was so thin that there was no al dente feel, at all. Do not make the mistake of thinking meat sauce to the rescue here because there is very little sauce and even less meat. It was barely enough to coat the pasta. Bucatini - Beef and ricotta meatballs, tomato, grana padano, basil. Excellent al dente pasta that I know and love. The meatballs and sauce were great too. Ricotta Ravioli - morel mushroom, ramp, asparagus, meyer lemon. The absolute best thing I ate, bar none. Superb delight to the palate with the gentle ricotta filling and nice burst of citrusy cream sauce. Will order this and eat the whole place by myself next time!! Linguine Nero - Spicy lobster, nduja, chili, garlic, pangrattato. It's hard for me to eat black pasta (squid ink), for some reason. I used mind over matter and got a bite down. Good flavor, nice spicy heat to the dish. Will take a bit of someone else's, but just can't order on my own (my personal problem!). We shared a dessert, Tiramisu. This was one of the best I've ever had. The ladyfingers were not soaked beyond belief, which normally makes this dessert a mushy mess. There was great flavor, not too sweet, and easy to eat. My mouth was ready for seconds, but my tummy couldn't take it! Will definitely be back here in the very near future!! read more

Came here before a show for happy hour. They didn't seem busy but seemed to have a bunch of reservations all the time. The porch tea is super heavy bourbon flavors. The modern love was nice and refreshing. The rigatoni was delicious. A bit al dente for me since I like it just a smidge softer noodles. But the sauce was delicious and it tasted fresh. I am glad I got it on happy hour. Good portion. The fries were expensive still, basically same price as not happy hour. The parmesan aoli unfortunately smelled and tasted sour. Usually I love a good aoli with fries. The burger was still good but not as good as partner remembered from last time. The sauce in it reminds me of big Mac sauce but fancier. The patty was heavily seasoned and grilled to perfection for partner. Still hoping to come back and give it chances but not as good as the first time we came. Maybe third time's the charm. read more
