We looked forward to going to Cotto on this trip to Seattle. Last time we dined here it was really good. So I got a reservation for my wife, son and grandson to enjoy this dining experience. Sadly we had to eject. We got there and asked the host about the "Happy Hour Menu." He said: "Sorry, that's only available at the bar or on the patio." So, I asked if we could move to the patio. He looked and said "no." There were three two person tables and it would have been simple to move them together. Since our grandson is nine we asked if they had a children's menu? "No." In almost every restaurant I been in they always offer to accommodate a child Will a simple plate of spaghetti or maybe a small pizza. How hard is that? Next I asked him about the "Small Plates" that are advertised on the sign out in the front (see my picture). He told me he had no idea what the small plates were. He had no idea what I was talking about. Exasperated, I asked him to walk outside with me and look at the sign. I showed him the sign and he said: "I'll have to check on it." He then went into the back and after 4-5 minutes he came back. At this point we were so frustrated that I told him we were leaving. I told him that his actions made it very clear they didn't want to meet the needs of their customers. I'm 80 years old and in my entire life I have never walked away from a restaurant, never ever. I have never dealt with a host in a restaurant that was so oblivious. I thought maybe this was one of those candid video shows but it wasn't. BTW, we walked down the street to another restaurant. As irony would have it, the host asked if we wanted to eat on the patio. They then put two tables for two together to serve our needs. We were looking for a nice local place for good food and the reviews led us to Bar Cotto in Belltown. It did not disappoint- though we didn't have reservations, we were seated quickly. The menu has just enough variety but not so crazy that you wonder whether they can possibly do all the dishes well, a quality I really like at a restaurant...just enough variety without overreaching. We started with focaccia and a watermelon salad with feta, Persian cucumber, pistachio and a Serrano vinaigrette. The focaccia was fresh and delicious and the watermelon was really outstanding. I ordered the gemelli with brisket genovese as recommended by the bartender/manager (guessing) and my friend had the americano pizza. My pasta was so delicious... the brisket melted in my mouth and the sauce and the pizza was perfectly done, crispy crust topped with a lovely sauce, fresh sausage and pepperoni and basil. It was a delightful end to a wonderful summer day in Seattle. There was a street festival happening with punk bands, bike and skate ramps and so on but it added to the charm of the Belltown vibe and didn't disturb our dining experience at all. Great late lunch at this restaurant with family of 6. We were wandering around trying to decide on a place to eat and the owner/chef was outside and struck up a conversation asking what kind of food we were looking for. We have one vegetarian so that is always a consideration for restaurants. He said he had a bunch of dishes that could accommodate us. The restaurant is smallish but clean and neat, high ceilings with industrial look and an open kitchen. We took the chef's recommendations for a couple of pastas, pizzas and burrata to share family style. All of the pasta was fresh-made and the sauces were delicious. The same for the burrata, which changes seasonally. It was so good that we had to order another. One pasta was a pork ragú and was tender and perfectly cooked. The other pasta was a pesto, also fresh and every bite was eaten. If I lived in the area, I would make this place a regular stop. read more

The drinks (aperol spritz and twilight in Parma) were good but not too standout for me. We also had the burrata and the focaccia which were good too. SRW limited menu. What great little new Italian restaurant. 4 of 5 stars because the starters and desserts were lack luster. But the pastas were delicious! Chop salad was soooo salty, I couldn't eat it but my husband finished it! The meatballs were actually quite tasty and reminded us of grandma's home cooked meatballs. Stopped in for late night dinner after work with a friend and I was so impressed! The space is gorgeous and the holiday decorations were so pretty but not overdone. Service was perfect, attentive and fast. The number one thing for me was the food. I am honestly normally underwhelmed with Italian food (because I can make better at home) but this was so so incredibly good and made me want to come back and try the entire menu. We got the broccoli, the pappardelle and the bread. Sea Wolf bread is always delicious, the seared broccoli was insanely good & the pappardelle blew us away. Definitely want to try more of the pasta dishes in particular. Drinks were also good! I personally liked the al limone the best. I'll definitely be trying more cocktails and getting into the wine menu in the future. Extremely positive experience after a long day at work, which I also want to note, this spot is great if you work late because it closes at 11. I wanted to wait and gather my frustration with this restaurant located in a Culturally diverse neighborhood. I walked in with good vibes, seeing that it was late night happy hour. I proceeded to the bar and order my first drink a black Manhattan. There was no presentation and the drink itself was depressing. The bartender seemed to be for attentive to other guest at the bar. When I asked about an appetizer, brussels sprouts. Did they come with a sauce, it felt I was bothering the bartender. I told him never mind I will order a pizza. I ordered my pizza. To my surprise the brussel sprouts came out. Dry and over cooked. 4 minutes later a soggy pizza arrived looking undercooked. At that time I stated I can no longer eat or drink at this business. This is the worst service I have ever received from a restaurant in Belltown. I expressed my frustration after leaving to friends, they also expressed their own concerns with the service of Cotta. I will be filing a complaint to the city if Seattle. read more

I've been to Bar Cotto before and this was my first time to Cotto. The happy hour deals were really great. My family ordered the bolognese, meatballs, brussel sprouts, pepperoni pizza, cheese pizza, the mafaldine, and short ribs. The only thing not on their happy hour menu was the short ribs. Excellent unexpected happy hour! Came here after a long afternoon at the Space Needle and Chihuly. They had a Sunday happy hour, and a lot of the menu (pizzas, pastas, and apps) were on it. My friend and I split the mushroom pizza, the meatballs, and the brussels. Portion sizes were very good, and we ended up taking some home. I didn't care for the texture of the mushrooms on the pizza, but everything else was delicious. They have been supportive when I've approached with a limited budget and I was grateful to work within their parameters to provide great evenings for larger parties. The pizza was spectacular, perfect crust and sauce and delicious toppings. We went to Cotto Belltown for our anniversary...really excited to try it because of all the greats views I read. To start out, the food was DELICIOUS. Those chefs were working their butts off and I could see that. The problem we had was with the service, he was not very friendly. He seemed like he was there to do a job and leave. We sat towards to the back and could see the waiters expoing and packing up patrons unfinished meals. When it was our time to pack our unfinished meals, he simply gave us two boxes. Meanwhile I'm seeing him and the other waiter box up others foods. Wondering why I don't get that same treatment. Then on top of that, we were celebrating something and I told them that in advance...not expecting anything but not even to mention anything. So weird. I am always one to leave a great review but working in the service industry, you need to at least look like you're treating everyone equal. Thanks to the chefs for the good food. read more

Really nice fancy-ish date spot. Ambiance is really nice and its lively without being overbearing. Service was super friendly as well, and very attentive. My boyfriend and I came here for prom and it worked great. We got the focaccia, the seared broccoli, mafaldine (a creamy lemon sauce), gemelli (brisket, more stewy in flavor), and tiramisu. The broccoli was amazing, perfectly cooked and really well seasoned. The focaccia was more like flat bread but also super delicious. The pasta sauces were unique, but I felt that the pasta was overcooked. My favorite part was definitely the tiramisu, as it was nice and light yet still juicy with the coffee flavor. Overall, the portions were great, and the pricing was very reasonable. We were able to eat this much for around $88 before tips. I think that I would definitely come here again, but maybe pass on the pasta next time for a pizza (just because I am a bit picky about the noodle consistency). Nice spot! read more

I'll first start off by saying that I don't leave reviews.. I should start doing it more often but just need to find the time. This restaurant though warrants time out of my life to leave one. I'll break it down by reviewing the service, ambiance and food... Service - This is a small restaurant so not surprising the owner is also making the alcoholic drinks and servicing the guest along side the waiter. We called the night of and though they were fully booked, they squeezed me and my family (4 of us) in without being snobby or mean about doing such a service. When we arrived, they friendly greeted us and sat us down right away. The server was patient and explained all the dishes and made recommendations. After receiving our food, a gentleman came over and asked us how everything was, then mentioning he was the owner. He was very nice, spent time talking to us since we are just visiting Seattle and also gave recommendations of other restaurants based off of our food type of preference. Ambiance - The restaurant is medium size so definitely make sure to make a reservation. Everything is clean and so are the restrooms. There is NO loud music so you can have a nice conversation during dinner with whomever you are dining with. There is also plenty of lighting and not dark like some restaurants that you might need a phone light to see the menu. Food - I like the simplicity of the menu. The owner mentioned that mostly everything they serve is made in house like the pasta and dough for their pizza. Their tiramisu is also made in house. Whenever my family tries a new restaurant we like to order multiple dishes to try. We started with 3 appetizers, the Brussels sprouts, Ceasar salad and bruschetta. All were very good, yes you can't really mess these dishes up. The bruschetta had sliced cherry tomato's on them and were vey tasty. The Brussels sprouts had a nice balsamic vinegar taste to it and were perfectly fried. For our main course we ordered the Pappardelle pasta, Gemelli pasta and the Margherita pizza. I'll first say that I loved the fact that all our main course dishes came out steaming hot. I can't review the Margherita pizza but my 2 kids polished it off, crust included. We all shared the 2 pastas and have to say that we all really enjoyed them. I would say I personally liked the Gemelli pasta more than the Pappardelle. The Gemelli meat is very tasty and you can't taste the marinate in the beef. The pasta was cooked al dente and overall was fantastic. The pappardella pasta was also delicious but the pork rags was a little saltier for my taste, but the meat and pasta with still very good, my wife loved it. For desert, the owner offered us a complementary tiramisu that like mentioned was made in house. For context, I really don't like Tiramisu, but the one that they serve is AWESOME. It was smooth in texture and the taste of each flavor was NOT overbearing. Every layer had a good amount of taste and the strawberries on top just put it over the top. I am shocked that this place doesn't have a lot of reviews but the rating speaks for itself. The service, ambiance and food are all top notch. I did read the negative reviews and it's not what represents the restaurant, do don't let them detour you from trying out this place, you won't be disappointed. Next time my family and I come back to Seattle from Los Angeles, we'll definitely be coming back to this place. We are here from 2 more night and my kids want to come back tomorrow. read more

Attentive but not overbearing service with staff checking on us frequently. Pasta was fresh and cooked just right. The brisket pasta was dressed with just drippings from the brisket and it was AWESOME; did not need anything else. Got (fried) brussel sprouts. It was a nice serving, not just a few leaves. Also got the bar snacks because I like pickled veggies and it did not disappoint with a small portion with carrots, peppers, cauliflower, not just a big pickle cut up that we got at another recent restaurant stop (and some nice olives and almonds also).
