I've wanted to visit Cotton Patch Cafe for a while now. Since I was babysitting three hungry girls, I thought, what better place to go to than this restaurant with the coolest name ever? I wasn't impressed. What we were served was more akin to cafeteria food (canned corn anyone?), and the host didn't seem very welcoming. Our server was also pretty dry--she seldom smiled and was a bit awkward with us. The kids ordered burgers and root beer floats, which looked pretty decent. Service was prompt, so we can't complain about that. I ordered a bowl of my favorite stew, chicken and dumplings, which was very small. I was super disappointed. The dumplings weren't dumplings but looked and tasted like a wide, chewy noodle and the chicken was amiss. The best part was the dining room itself, which was pretty rustic and cool-looking. I love the Grapevine Cottonpatch & had no concerns about trying their Lewisville counterpart. Unfortunately, I called in a to-go order, only to be told that they had "run out" of my entree when I walked through the door to pick it up. They had my phone #, a courtesy call would have been appreciated before I wasted my time. At the very least, they could have comped the side items or something, rather than charging my for a side of baked squash and a roll. That just seems insulting at this point. I won't come back. Several years back I was in Dallas for business. Never having been in Texas before, I had no idea where to eat. Thanks to a few yelp reviews, I decided to give this place a try. The server recommended the chicken fried steak, and when in Rome..... My food arrived, and was enough to feed two grown men. It is by far the largest chicken fried steak I have ever seen. Size aside, it was pretty tasty. It was done correctly, served hot, with an adequate amount of gravy and tasty mashed potatoes. Even though I stood no chance of finishing my meal, the server managed to talk me into dessert, to go. It wasn't a hard sell, corporate was reimbursing me for all my meals. She packaged up my leftovers, and some warm blackberry cobbler. As I drove back to my hotel, the smell of the cobbler was beginning to get the better of me. As I put my leftovers in the fridge, I decided to take a little bite of the cobbler. Boy, was that a mistake. It was so amazingly good that I ate the entire thing, on the spot. I went back and got blackberry cobbler to go for the last 2 days I had left in Dallas. Shameful, but true. They messed up my order. I drove 25 miles to get there 25 miles home then discovered they forgot part of my order. So drove back to get what they forgot because my sick mother had asked for their potato soup. Got home and found part of the rest of the order was wrong. Place to noisey. Won't go there again. To be fair to this 1-star review, I haven't been back to Cotton Patch Cafe in a few years. But that's because the last time I went there, I got horrible food poisoning when I stopped by for lunch. It hit me shortly after I got back to work and then spent hours curled up in the fetal position instead of actually working. When I finally got sent home, I went HOME to be sick until some time in the next afternoon. While it was more than likely a one off "oops" on my chicken fried steak, a mean and nasty bout of food poisoning will tend to make people steer clear of a restaurant... and that's exactly what's happened here. Which is moderately unfortunate because since the Black Eyed Pea in Lewisville shut down, options for 'home cooking' style food in the area are basically nil. Mercifully, I now live in Addison and 10 minutes away from the Black Eyed Pea I went to as a kid. And nowhere near a Cotton Patch. read more

I have been to this Cotton Patch Cafe more times than I can count. I started with the the Traditional dishes like Meatloaf and Chicken Fried Steak. The meatloaf is okay, but I think all meatloaf is just okay, so I've come to the realization that I'm probably just not a meatloaf guy. The chicken fried steak here is huge and tender. (And probably a ton of calories!) I can usually finish any meal, but sometimes I can't with this. Lately, my wife and I have been ordering from the Grilled section of the menu. My wife is quite fond of the Grilled Norwegian Salmon; it's normally blackened, but my wife asks for it not blackened as she can't take spicy food. We also like the CPC Sirloin Steak and the Steak & Shrimp. These are the best inexpensive steaks we have found. They are quite flavorful and always cooked as we asked. With the included salad, loaded baked potato, and hot rolls these entrees are filling and priced right. read more

Cotton Patch makes one of the best chicken fried steaks ever! Really big and surprisingly tender. And the gravy is sooooooooooooo good. Same goes the pork chops. Big, juicy and tender. I came in here for lunch with a party of about 10 and where able to be seated pretty quickly. This restaurant does get busy during lunch but does not take reservation so get there early! I had the cornbread which comes in it's own cast iron skillet and it was awesome! only $1.99 too! Also tried the chicken strips with mashed potatoes and broccoli cheese rice, very tasty!. Our first dinner at Cotton Patch Cafe and it may be our go to on those tired weekday nights. Lots of people thinking the same thing as it was a busy Monday night. Service was attentive, and timely. Good home cooked meal for two was $25 and that included a soda and two soups. The restaurant is clean, homey atmosphere, and can seat big groups. Inconsistent food, sometimes it's very well prepared and tasty. Other times like NOW, the entire staffs main concern is to leave their shifts on time. We are from California and just moved to the area. We have a place back home that is famous for their fish tacos, we had the Baja fish tacos here and they blew us away! They had a nice spice, cake with amazing queso dip. It was such a good experience. Ashley was our server and she was super sweet and made sure we were enjoying our time. First I want to say their food had always been A+ and the service has pretty much always be wonderful which is why I come at the least 2-3 times a month... But this evening this server struck a nerve that is a huge in my opinion... I consider it sooo disrespectful for the person who is serving "me" to call me anything but ma'am... I realize I just gave full stars for a chain but in my defense I have to say it's so hot outside I needed a decent salad and they are hard to find and I was next to this place. I mean I usually pass cotton patches by simply because it just like many other chain places. Very glad I stopped here. I had a Tex Mex salad and it was delicious the inside was exactly like any other I've been to but what stood out the most. What is it they have that no one else has. My waiter! This guy ( Name is Adam) is on top of his job. He's very attentive and I am completely impressed. He is among the top waiters I've ever been lucky enough to get. My husband and I have tried this place before, and we weren't impressed. At the time, we had a coupon that didn't fit with what we wanted to order, which put us off the whole experience. We have been watching our weight, so we decided to give this place another go. When you're trying to eat healthy, you need to spend a bit more than the typical burgers and fries. Tonight we both had sirloin steak, and I had the garlic mashed potatoes and cinnamon apples. My husband had the Caesar salad and shrimp. All the food was good, and with the calorie counts on the menu, it was easy to see what we could have. I can't wait to come back and try the veggie sampler. There are so many side dishes on the menu--other places could take a hint. The service here was friendly as well, though they seemed to be very busy. Very good experience! read more

Horrible lunch experience. After ordering and waiting for a well done burger with bacon and no tomatoes or condiments, it came out wrong with tomatoes, jalapeños and ketchup. I asked for the same order but to go. Everything looked ok but no bacon. I get home and cut it in half and it's raw!!!!!! The waiter is such a loser. I called and returned the burger. The manger said the waiter told her medium rare and that's how she made it. The manager credited my card back and wished me a happy weekend. #disgusted I should have posted the pic. I frequent this place from time to time and we always have a pleasant experience. This time was not it. Although the food was good, the service was mediocre. Our server, Graham (I believe that was his name), came to our table, didn't introduce himself or anything. Just went straight for drink orders. My partner ordered a Long Island iced tea, and he asked for his ID. Pretty normal since my partner looks younger than what he is. The server proceeded to look him up and down and questioned him asking why he didn't have glasses on in his license picture. Umm contacts duh but he looked at him and at me and finally gave the card back after making more sly comments. We ordered a our dinner some minutes later and that was the last time he stopped by our table outside of pouring a glass of water. Didn't ask if we were ok or needed anything, but stopped at every other table (a few weren't even his) to make small talk. He obviously wasn't feeling us for whatever reason and we DEFINITELY wasn't feeling him. He rubbed us the wrong way as soon as we sat down and didn't make it any better. The service was inadequate to say the least and was even rude at times. The food failed to satisfy standards and was simply low quality. The atmosphere was bland and not well kept. However, the pricing reflected this and was not horrible, likely because the restaurant knows their food is of low quality. This restaurant and specifically this location will not be receiving any further of my money. I would not recommend going here to enjoy a nice dinner. There are much better restaurants that can serve you the same cuisine style of higher quality, with a more pleasing atmosphere and better service. read more

This is the best food i have ever had for the price. The chicken fried ... menu is awesome. The wait staff has always been fast and genuine. We had a half order of fried mushrooms, larger than most restaurants. My fiancee had the strawberry pecan salad, it was beautiful, tasty, and of course huge. I had the chicken fried steak, my first time actually liking this entree. I figured, the chicken fried chicken was so good last time, i would give this a shot, and man wad it good. For me it was ok. We wanted to eat there for quite sometime. The service was really good I got the 8 shrimp and catfish basket which was very tasty we got our food pretty quickly. My husband ordered the chicken tender basket from lunch menu the prices are reasonable. The only negative thing I have to say is that I got a refill on my dr.pepper and the glass was cracked at the top I didn't notice until my finger made contact with the broken glass. Wow! In regards to quality of the food, it is a striking resemblance to what you might find in a shotgun Mississippi home! Ingredients are great and of-quality, the uniqueness of what is offered varied dish to dish, but the presentation is lacking. The best in town? Not sure, but it is definitely worth throwing it's name in the hat! They offer great classics, along with wonderful spins on those classics. I had the meat loaf and chicken n dumplings.
