The vibe is very hole in the wall with some nice fleur de lis touches. If you're looking for a fancy place for a date, this may not be it. for anyone who has not heard about the Bayou market in Louisville, Texas, you have to try it. A friend of mine took me there about a month and a half ago and I've been back several times since. Everything is fresh, cooked well and just off the chart I took my wife there Wednesday and she loved it. She had the catfish Poboy potato salad and ear of corn. She absolutely loved it. I only bought 1 pound cause I wanted to see if they did a better job cleaning them this year. But no. You may do better buying them live from them to clean and boil yourself but they most definitely are not properly cleaning them before they boil. Of all the places I buy boiled crawfish I have never seen ones this dirty and can actually taste the dirt when eating them. I literally put them in a bowl to rinse them and the water was muddy. Ok so my husband is a LA native, from a small town near Natchitoches. He wanted fried catfish. A friend that lives in Lewisville recommended this place (we live in Frisco). He ordered fried catfish platter with fries and his puppies. I ordered a half po boy with fried okra. The hush puppies are my type, not oniony with a hint of sweetness! This would be the only reason I would return and why they get 4 stars. The fried okra wasn't bad but nothing that blew my mind. I agree with another reviewer that there is also nothing special about my shrimp po boy. Iceberg lettuce, tomatoes and pickles. My husband felt the same way about the fried catfish. I'm not on here to knock a small business thats been around forever. The price is right and the people in there are sooooo nice. I had a meat pie and it was good too. I went in and ordered a pound of crawfish new to this restaurant and ordered a few other dishes I got home opened the crawfish started eating and looked and saw a water bug not just one but two water bugs in my crawfish absolutely disgusting the crawfish had dirt on them and I could taste the dirt went back to get a refund and one of the ladies there acted surprised but the other just acted like it was a normal thing NEVER AGAIN! My wife and I been looking for a Cajun place for a while in Dallas. We found one of the best so far in Bayou Market. Owner is from West Bank and I met some locals in there who swore by her cooking. She also has a mini market where you can order of all things the Gambino's bread for po boys, both beans (depending on your preference) for red beans and rice. Some packets for making beignets. Pretty good mini representation of New Orleans food. I tried a platter which has everything. On the menu is a full collection of po boys as well as a daily special. Then the familiar run of gumbo, blackened fish, crawfish etouffee. A little different chicken and sausage gumbo (but good). Boudin balls, hush puppies. I don't know what to say except it's worth the trip and quite frankly the locals there make it seem just like I was back in my wife's Kenner neighborhood. Flavors as close as any I've had and very few misses on this menu. Score one for hole in the wall Cajun place here. I visited the tail end of crawfish season and they had some. I realize these days they have farms for crawfish, but not sure if they have it year around or it was just a bit longer season this year. read more

Super nice folks with excellent flavor on the crawfish boil. Corn, potatoes, shrimp and sausage is boiled separate to keep it from being too salty. Crawfish included a really good sausage in with them that had a familiar breakfast sausage flavor. We had people digging through the crawfish for the sausage! One of the only places that would fill our order mid-week. Wednesdays are apparently a tough day of the week to get live fresh crawfish since many pick up in Louisiana before the weekends. We will definitely order from the Bayou Market again! Have not tried the other dishes but may update the review if/when we do. read more

I wanted to try this place out and see how their crawfish compared to other places in the area. The place looks like a nice mom and pop shop but different than what I was expecting. I ordered a pound of crawfish and asked for mild but was told it only has one flavor option but it's not too spicy and corn and potatoes are extra. I only wanted potatoes (they charge 50 cents for each one) and a side of okra and hush puppies. When I got there, they scooped the premade crawfish out of a plastic cooler you'd take camping and weighed it then bagged it up. The service was good and you could see them cooking and cleaning the kitchen so you know it's clean but don't be expecting traditional restaurant vibes. It's more of a restaurant you'd find in a small rural town. As for the food, hush puppies are more of the sweet kind and good, the okra was ok but I've had better and the crawfish and potatoes were dry as in no juice or spices but like they just came out of the steamer. The potatoes had absolutely no taste, just a dry baked potato and the crawfish did have seasoning when it was being cooked but I guess they drained them when they were done and put them in the plastic cooler. It would've been great if they had some juices to go with them. Although I'm giving 4stars, I probably won't be back because there's a few other places in Lewisville with better crawfish and okra. Fish and Tails and the Crab Station are amazingly good and I was even able to reuse the crawfish juice left over to make Cajun fish at home that turned out equally delish! read more

This place is sooo good! We're from Nola and when we first moved to the area, there weren't the amount of places like this that you could get a real pi-boy on leidenheimer bread! They also have boiled crawfish, shrimp that are just like we do as well as sell sacks of live ! This place has been around for years and I can't say enough good things about them! The last time I ever visited this restaurant, the cashier definitely forgot to pass my order to the cook, probably because was so into her phone. After watching four customers, who arrived after me, receive their orders, I asked about my to go order. Not only had I ordered food, I'd spent a pretty penny on their merchandise. When my food came out close to 30 minutes later, I asked to speak to the manager. I was a regular and clear on the customary wait time. The tall, white, extremely slim, older cashier told me she was the manager, when I asked how I could contact the owner, she claimed to be the owner, and when I tried to return the MERCHANDISE, not my order, she told me to 'get out' in a low quiet growl, which was strange because she'd clearly made a mistake. I hadn't raised my voice or made a scene, so I was confused. After receiving guidance from my bank and returning, I learned that she was not the owner nor did she hold authority. I did find the manager/owner to be a huge disappointment as she only came from her hiding spot to apologize after watching another worker intervene to understand my experience. I've never been back and in being forced to try other places, I'd give the seasoning 5 stars, price for what you get 3 stars and service 1 star. read more

Let me say that I'm from New Orleans. Grew up eating crawfish, po' boys etc. This place is good, if desperate, but it ain't nearly Nawlins. Crawfish too spicy and some too bland; in the same bag! It is Like they don't have a good balance of water, seasoning and ice. The po' boy, again don't bother. We all know a good sandwich starts with the bread. This bread is not fresh. Period! I am so disappointed in the management at this restaurant. I've been going here for years. I purchased a 30lb bag of live crawfish last weekend. When I got home almost all the crawfish were dead. I called and they said to bring them back. They had been having this happen. Went back, got another 30lbs. Got home and same issue. We had to throw away the entire bag, they were disgusting. Looked like mold on them. Manager called next day and said there was nothing she could do. Proceeded to tell me that you never put crawfish in water to clean them. I was born and raised in Louisiana! Found this spot on YELP and decided to check it out. I can't say that I had high expectations of their crawfish because I've hit up so many crawfish spots in the DFW metroplex and have been disappointed. The spot-Cozy little spot sort of hidden in a strip mall that you can't really see from the road, as there are businesses in front of it. The inside reminds me of a lil spot in Baton Rouge that I frequented a lot in college. Mardi Gras decor was up in full effect. They had a freezer with food and brands "authentic" to Louisiana. I did see Cafe Du Monde coffee along with Savoie and Poche's products. Not a huge spot. Roughly about 9 tables varying in sizes. The customer service-When I entered all tables were full and there were 3 couples in front of me in line placing orders. Once I made it to the front of the line the cashier and employees were extremely personable and courteous. I ordered 4lbs of crawfish. Again, I didn't have high hopes at all. The food-The crawfish was the BOMB! Hands down better than Baton Rouge spots that I love! The seasoning was boiled into the crawfish, not souped on top of the crawfish Asian style. It had the perfect amount of kick to it. Every tail was flavored to perfection. I will say that I couldn't suck the heads back to back because the spice level became too much for me! But I do plan to ALWAYS come back to this spot during crawfish season as long as they are around. So glad I found a lil taste of Louisiana heaven in the heart of DFW! I dare you to try it. I visited Bayou Market because my wife had a taste for poboys. Although they were not close to where I stay. I can say, it was worth the drive. The staff was friendly and helpful. We ordered 2 poboys and fries. Their poboys are probably the closest thing to New Orleans poboys, in the Dallas area. The bread is exactly like what you would find in New Orleans. It's like a French bread, with a flakey exterior and soft interior. The shrimp were a nice size. The breading on the shrimp was flavorful. Since the sandwich is authentic, you won't have to worry about them sneaking tartar sauce on the sandwich. The Mayo, lettuce and pickles are in proportion to the sandwich. Meaning the sandwich isn't stuffed with greens to make the sandwich look bigger. The fries had an outer crisp while still being fluffy and hot, inside. The fries have a Cajun spice on it. It's not a seasoning, so if your seeking a salty flavor you will need to add additional seasoning salt. But this doesn't mean that the fries weren't good, because they are. I came with the wife and kids. The owner gave my 1 year daughter a sample of the gumbo, and she loved it. I was able to taste it, but after that taste, my daughter wasn't allowing anyone else to have any. From what I tasted, the gumbo was tasty with complex flavors. I will have to get a bowl on our next trip. I also plan to get extra shrimp on my poboy, next time. I will probably try the gator platter or crawfish. Lastly, they offer a freezer/fridge area with items from Louisiana. That you can buy like, andouille sausage, gumbo file, frozen crawfish, Cafe Du Monde coffee, Abita Root beer, Louisiana fish fry, and the list goes on.
