I think most people will enjoy it here, but I'm a stickler for biscuits and gravy. The gravy was mid, and the biscuits were mid (as the kids say). Neither tasted like it was made there. I saw pieces of meat in the gravy but it didn't taste great. The biscuits had the texture of Pillsbury canned biscuits with no buttermilk tang. However, I did enjoy that that the scrambled eggs weren't overcooked but the ham chunks and diced onion in the scramble weren't caramelized at all. The sliced breakfast potatoes were somewhat crispy, but seemed like they were cooked much earlier. They were seasoned nicely. I appreciated the mile chunky salsa on the side. All in all, not bad, if not original. Service. Atmosphere. Bathrooms, all 5/5 hence the 4/5 overall score. read more

8/27/23 Located at the corner of Cherry & E. Spring St. ...let's see if this place will wow us for breakfast. Thanks to Yelp & Evan K from his review yesterday-we found this joint. We were immediately seated to the booth of our choosing. It's pretty straightforward, no frills but great service & good food. We ordered the Machaca special & my Denver omelette (we both opted for cottage cheese instead of home fries) one banana pancake, all arrived in good time. My omelette was standard & was fairly bland so I added black pepper & ketchup to season, ate half of it & gave to Hubby to finish. His machaca was not seasoned well either. Kristine, our friendly & efficient server, offered salsa that added some flavor to it. The banana pancake was the highlight of our meals-I love that it had plenty of bananas cooked within the batter that it didn't need syrup at all. We'd come back simply for this pancake. The homemade biscuit n gravy was good. Overall, not wowed except for the banana pancake that was fluffy, moist & had the perfect amount of banana slices & chew to it. Perhaps we'll try other items in the menu. The service was attentive. The restaurant is small that gas 11 booths, 3 servers & a busboy who looked a bit uninterested (he's attentive enough but just blah about it lol). Otherwise the servers were spot on. The food was so tasty and delicious you could taste the homemade in everything we ate. I asked if they bottled their country gravy as it's so delicious! The service was fantastic and the people are so welcoming and friendly. It's in strip mall and some may dismiss it based on location. They would miss out on some great home style food if they do. My new breakfast go-to. After driving by this little spot dozens of times, I finally stopped in and I'm so happy I did. I got a good feeling as soon as I walked in. The restaurant is small but bright and clean. I was greeted righted away and taken to a corner booth. The service was friendly and efficient and the food was delicious. I had the veggie scramble which was comprised of fluffy eggs, fresh veggies, and their yummy home potatoes. My husband had the hobo omelet which he said was really good. The banana pancake (which is how I judge breakfast places lol) was fluffy and dense which is what I like. Their home potatoes are not chunky like typical ones but rather like thick hash browns - which is awesome. Note: Come early on weekends. It's not packed but since there's limited seating due to the size of the restaurant, there could be a wait. They also close at 2:00. read more

Country Roads take me home to Country Kitchen in Long Beach! Absolutely loved this gem of a brunch spot and I feel like it's slept on in Long Beach. I came here with my girlfriend on a Saturday to enjoy a late brunch and we met Tony the owner. Great guy and talked about the menu with us for a bit. He recommended the Portuguese Sausage plate and the Granola pancakes. We decided to order the Eggs benedict with avocado & bacon which was above average. It was very simple and I loved pairing it with their house potatoes which were super crunchy (in a good way). We also got their Country Fried Steak, highly recommend this dish with their potatoes as well. We lastly split their Granola pancakes which were unique and had a different texture than other pancakes due to the granola. I would come back for this and we were happy to order just one pancake. My husband and I spent a weekend in Long Beach and we stayed near the airport and found this gem on a strip mall near a 7 Eleven. We were encouraged to try it out due to the reviews on Yelp and we were not disappointed. In fact, we loved the experience we came and had breakfast here twice during our visit to Long Beach. We came on a Saturday morning and was seated right away. Several customers came after us and the place filled up but did not feel crowded. It just has a pleasant country kitchen small diner feel. Susan, our server on both occasions has excellent customer service and made us feel right at home. She highly recommended the Granola Pancakes which were 2 pancakes with granola, blueberries, banana and almonds. It was a great way to start our morning with freshly brewed coffee. I didn't feel guilty since I shared this with my husband. I enjoyed the freshly made Breakfast Burrito which was a flour tortilla stuffed with 3 scrambled eggs, cheddar cheese and sausage. It came with home fries and freshly made salsa. My husband enjoyed his Denver Omelette which also came with their home fries. Unlimited freshly brewed coffee and ice cold water was much appreciated. Before our departure from Long Beach, we had to bring our friends who were also looking for a place where we can enjoy a hearty breakfast without feeling rushed. This place is a great LBC find!! We ordered the granola pancakes, side of Portuguese sausage, hobo omelette w/ California spuds upgrade & biscuit w/gravy. The star of this meal was definitely the granola pancakes! Usually I'm a plain pancakes gal & would usually never order granola on a pancake, but the mix of blueberries, banana and granola topped with lots of butter was so delicious (didn't need the syrup). Don't second guess the many recommendations, just try it! We also enjoyed the California spuds & adding their housemade salsa made it even more delicious! Everything else was pretty tasty (the gravy on the biscuit was the only disappointment). I can't believe I haven't left a review as many times we have ordered and come here to eat. The food is always on point. Today we found out they have some Mexican food item specials, we had the chilaquiles which were amazing. The hobo omelette is the best, in my opinion. We took a burger home for my son and it looked really good. The people are always friendly and super helpful. Asked how we liked the special, explained how the chef prepares them. The seating space is small, so come early there is a list to be seated when it's busy but totally worth it. The to go is what we normally do, but you can't go wrong either way. Got home found out there were no vegetables and avocado in the scramble. Called the restaurant and went back to get the replacement. The host was polite and offered 2 orange juice. When handed the food over to me she told me she checked and were all good to go. How surprised when I get home that they forgot avocado again. Didn't drive back again for the avocado. STEPH JUDGEMENT: OK diner-style food with friendly service. The hubby and I were looking for a breakfast spot before hopping on the freeway and this place seemed like a good candidate. There was a short wait, and then we got a booth by the window. I got the Tuna melt with fried zucchini (discs, nice and crunchy), and the hubby got the grilled cheese with fries, which were the frozen crinkle cut variety, and not that well done. The place has a peasant enough ambiance, but the bathroom seemed weirdly worn down. Overall fine, but probably wouldn't seek out, with all the better options around. read more
