I got the Tuna melt with fried zucchini (discs, nice and crunchy), and the hubby got the grilled cheese with fries, which were the frozen crinkle cut variety, and not that well done. Unfortunately, it is on the higher end of the price spectrum for breakfast burritos. I was pleasantly surprised that this was a sit down restaurant in light of being located next to Jimmy John's and 7/11. Got home found out there were no vegetables and avocado in the scramble. Called the restaurant and went back to get the replacement. The host was polite and offered 2 orange juice. When handed the food over to me she told me she checked and were all good to go. How surprised when I get home that they forgot avocado again. Didn't drive back again for the avocado. I try to visit a diner everywhere I go, and my recent trip to Long Beach was absolutely no exception. We decided on Country Kitchen, and it was an incredible decision! Susan was a great waitress and recommended the granola pancakes (over the banana ones they have a sign for on the wall). She was right. Biscuit had some hardness and density to it, but flavor was good. Gravy was more on the creamy side and could use a bit more sausage pieces/flavor. It was a side item and not the star of the show, but def noteworthy. My kids had the country steak and eggs and corned beef hash. No complaints from either child. SERVICE was pleasant. Ma and pop shop-type service. Order taken, tabled checked on, and glasses refilled. Table cleared and the young bus staff was very attentive. AMBIENCE was not country, but was not expecting it anyway. Def was not looking for a cluttered Cracker Barrel atmosphere. This place is a storefront, simple and clean. In the south, you'd get linoleum and dated booths with the greasy cafeteria smell. Not here. After picking up my sister and friend from Long Beach airport, we came right over for brunch and this place is happening. We wrote our name on the list and we waited about 20 minutes to be seated which was worth the wait. It's a cute little place, maybe family owned, but very clean and the service was top notch. This is a great, new breakfast place in Signal Hill. I was hankering for some breakfast and saw the photos of biscuits and gravy and had to give the Country Kitchen a try. I wasn't disappointed, and it's a nice new choice for when my neighborhood spots (jongwards and blackbird) have long lines. I had the bacon and eggs with biscuits and gravy. First off, they were really generous with the bacon! Four big slices. The home style potatoes were also very good, and cooked crispy like I like them. I liked the biscuits and gravy, but I wish the gravy had more of a sausage taste. I like the looks of their lunch menu too. The service is fast, the food is delicious, and the prices are comparable to Denny's or IHOP. My go-to order are the banana pancakes and I get a combo since I just HAVE to have my eggs and bacon on the side. My server was awesome (I wish I could remember her name). She checked back several times to see if there was anything else I needed and how I liked it. My bill for CB hash with scrambled eggs and home fries plus 2 chocolate chip pancakes and hot tea and tax was $36. More than I expected but it is what it is and the prices are on the menu. Hubby had eggs Benedict & I had the blueberry pancakes w/ eggs & bacon. The potatoes were OH SO YUMMY, and the pancakes had tons of fresh blueberries. Hubby said coffee was very tasty as well. A relative of mine had an early morning surgery that I did not wanna wait or eat at the cafe. So I decided to try this place instead since it was nearby, and I'm glad I did. Here's a little bit about this little country kitchen: ~ Arrived on a Tuesday morning around 7:15am, and I was the only one there. The sweet lady in the kitchen said I can sit wherever I want. Excellent service by her btw, as she came out and was the only person I interacted with. ~ There were about eleven tables, so I took a window seat in a booth. ~ My order: The Country Fried Steak ($16.75) with two scrambled eggs, some tasty home-fries kinda like potatoes au gratin but without the cream and cheese. And a fresh homemade biscuit with a savory sausage gravy. As for the CFS itself, it wasn't my all-time favorite CFS, but was still crunchy good. Also topped with that salty (but a good salty) sausage gravy. ~ To-go order: The Breakfast Burrito ($12.50) with three scrambled eggs, cheddar cheese, and sausage. This too came with home-fries and a side of salsa. The burrito was big and well worth it! I was asked if I wanted the home-fries inside the burrito, but I chose for them on the side. I can just imagine how much bigger the burrito would be if it were inside. ~ Later, more patrons arrived, but luckily I wasn't forgotten. My sweet server came back to check on me, and my coffee mug was refilled. Again, excellent service! Country Kitchen is a decent stop for breakfast.
