This waffle house is somewhere in between a diner and a higher end brunch spot. It has all the makings of a regular diner but is a little better in terms of service and quality of food. When I went, there was no wait and we were immediately seated on a weekend during peak brunch hours for a party of three. I had a chocolate waffle and was expecting something similar to iHOP but was very very pleased at the quality. It was perfectly crunchy on the edges and softer to the middle of the waffle and the toppings they added on top complemented it well. They also have gluten free pancakes which my cousin absolutely loved and said that they tasted much better than other GF pancakes either at home or in restaurants. Have eaten here 50,000 times! Like Marie Callender's, but much more popular. Also, you are allowed to come here even if you're not an old person. Well okay, 50 000 might be a slight exaggeration, but we have eaten here a lot. We come here every Sunday at brunch time. In general, the service has been excellent. On busy days there is often a wait out front. They have free coffee out there, along with a lot of soft chairs to sit in. It's usually just about a 5 or 10 minute wait. We have tried just about all of their dishes, including omelettes, waffles, pancakes, oatmeal, you name it we tried it. In general we are very pleased with our meal here. In all the times we have eaten here, I think there is only one time where we actually had to have them redo the order. The servers are usually quite friendly and helpful. Usually the hostess will come up quickly, getting your drinks for you. However, I am still mad they don't have Diet Coke! In case you are a senior, they have a senior menu with good options, which include a free drink. Of course, I am a very long way from being eligible for that menu. Also, don't forget that they offer 5% Yelp cash back! Don't forget however that you need to sign up for this feature in order for it to work. The only gripe we have with this restaurant is that in this very noisy inside. It is actually difficult to carry on a conversation. I should also mention that the interior is sort of dated. It's sort of like Marie Callender's, if you remember those restaurants. The parking should get pretty busy out front, but you could park on the side where it is much easier to find a spot. read more

The bacon was undercooked, white and flimsy. We all ordered pancakes and they DID NOT include butter OR syrup with any of our orders. WHO EATS PANCAKES WITH NO SYRUP OR BUTTER?!?!? We had to. We had no choice. This restaurant SERIOUSLY LACKS in any kind of customer service. Food was under cooked and flavorless. We had great service and the food was perfection. I ordered the mini California omelette with fresh fruit and sourdough bread. My boyfriend ordered the Monte Cristo special made with French toast. My omelette was perfectly cooked. The bacon, avocado, tomato balance... mmmmm! The monte Cristo sandwich was picture worthy but we failed in getting a pic. It was decadent! Soooo good! Country Waffles has been around since I moved to the Tri-Valley over 20 years ago. This week because of the PG&E power outage I decided to have breakfast there. I get a coupon in my newspaper every week tauting a $8.99 1/2 waffle, two eggs, and 1/2 a ham breakfast. The restaurant is like a small town diner/coffee shop. Its very busy with lots of senior citizens. I was seated right away but there was a line to get in when I was leaving. Plenty of servers, bus persons and hosts. Service is fast, the food was ok. Minus star for the bland bland weak coffee. $2.50, suggest bring your own Starbucks. Its located in the Lamps Plus shopping center right next door Hana Japan Tappenyaki. Plenty of parking. read more

Staff service and food were disappointing we were food portioned with order looked more like a child's meal the chefs were staring at us after we asked for a bigger portion. This was so small that you could fit your corn beef hash in a tablespoon and the same for the hashbrowns. literally are we ask the waitress why the food look so small in portion and she said oh because it's smashed. That didn't make any sense at all. This place is dirty and the staff just stare at you and don't even see the plates that can be cleared off the table while we are try to eat. Although very busy, we were quickly seated. As our server took our order, I asked if the corned beef was fresh. She said yes. I said great, told her the rest of my order and that I'll have the hash brown, crispy. She asked potatoes? No hash browns crispy. She smiled and said ok and took my husband's order. When our plates came, it was clear that the corned beef was from a can (Mary Ellen's?) with country potatoes instead of hash browns. My husband's order was perfect. I didn't want to send it back, as we were under a time line and also thought maybe she misheard me due to it being noisy. With all that said, food was decent. Best part was the half Belgian waffle and eggs cooked perfectly. Another person took the bill and our CC and brought it back w/o a pen. Took us another five minutes to track him down to get one. We mostly get the breakfast items. All of them have been fresh and tasty. The Joe's scramble/skillet is our favorite with toast and waffle on the side. Side note- you can share the Joe's scramble/skillet between two people. They have lunch and dinner stuff but we never have tried that part of the menu. It seems to be only a breakfast spot for us. My recent experience with the chicken and waffles dish at Country Waffles was less than satisfying, the waffles were gritty with a sans paper texture and for some reason salty!. The chicken was dry and overcooked, breading clearly over seasoned. while the waffles were unevenly cooked and lacked the desired texture. Arrived at 8:45 AM on a Sunday morning and snagged one of the indoor tables. Under COVID, they are having every other table occupied for 50% indoor occupancy, with a handful of tables available outside. Within about 10 minutes, all of the indoor tables were full. Lots of busboys and wait staff, but the busboys seems to congregate too much and have to get the same thing done (e.g., two people required to delivery coffee, cream and sugar). It makes for a less than efficient system of coverage. We had a mix of waffles and the meat lovers omelette (with fruit and a 1/2 waffle). Good food, but I prefer a few other places instead. I have not been to Zac's since the pandemic, but have frequented Bill's Cafe and Jim's Country Style in Pleasanton instead. read more

I used to come to this location alot with my friend. We would run a half assed two miles and then stuff our faces with waffles. Two days ago I came for a late breakfast and we ordered the club sandwich with fries and blueberry waffles, and two coffees. Service is friendly and personable. The club sandwich was toasty and tasty. The crinkle fries were crispy but not as tasty so we had to eat them with ketchup. My waffles was so delicious and huge. I could only eat half of it. Simple, no-nonsense breakfast items....came here today around 9am and no wait but i can see this place being swamped on the weekend as they have chairs outside for those waiting. Came here with 2 friends and ordered the eggs benedict, basic ham, egg, toaste, and a scramble with linguisa....all were cooked perfectly especially the hashbrowns...crunchy on the outside and soft inside...eggs poached perfectly and they have this sauce called Palo Alto Fire Fighter sauce....of course, i accidentally poured at least 1/4 cup onto my eggs benedicts and thought "oh lawdy its gonna be spicy!"....surprisingly, it was not but smokey with depth and light heat....really good stuff...i'm now on a quest for it! Service was good...attentive with refilling coffee, checking up on us, etc. Better run that the Union City location but then again, it wasn't a busy weekend. read more

It was our first visit at this place. We liked the casual feel that suits our 2 little toddlers. And allowed us to relax while we enjoyed our meal. The activity sheet that they provide in the beginning helps to keep the kids busy. Our food were prepared well. The chorizo scramble and the sides were tasty and filling. I like the spicy taste if the chorizo and the spicy salsa that furthers enhances the taste. The dish also came with hash brown, toast and mashed beans, which I found very filling for my appetite. Our kids loved the waffle and chicken strips. I like how they have the fruit option instead of just french fries. Service was prompt and accurate. I just think that the floors need a little cleaning. YES I am a fan of Country Waffles. As much of a shocker that may be to some. I can, of course explain. I really enjoy a good waffle. And I can consistently get that at Country Waffles. I never deviate from a waffle. The only thing I may change up is the the topping. The peanut butter and banana is pretty yummy. I am usually torn between the strawberry and the blueberry topping (blueberry normally wins). And of course I want the whipping cream too. Obviously some much to enjoy about a visit here. I cannot contribution much outside of my opinion of a delicious waffle, since that is the only thing I get. FYI this location is the one I frequent the most. On our recent road trip to San Fran we stopped here. We opted to sit at the bar area, because we like to watch all the action. The waitress came over in a couple of minutes, the place was slammed, so the wait was expected. The food was made to order and tasted good, the staff was friendly and it definitely looked like they could have used a bit more staffing to alleviate the rush, but they handled it well. Oh my...I ordered the combo with two eggs, country potatoes, biscuit and fruit cup. While you can't really mess up fresh fruit and the biscuit was decent, the main part of the breakfast combo was terrible! I bet my dog can fry up potatoes better than whoever was making the skillet meals. I asked for fried eggs with hard cooked yolks, expecting that the whites and yolks would be distinct. What I got was a sorry little omelette like thing that tasted like it was made from powdered eggs or something. I forced myself to down the "egg" mat, washing it down with hot coffee. I couldn't bring myself to gnaw on the potatoes no matter how much coffee I might have consumed. I had the biscuit with my coffee and ate the fruit. We ordered Sunday brunch today for the first time during Covid. Tried connecting from website to order and was having issues. Was stating out of my range even though I was picking up. Eventually I just went directly to DoorDash.com and was able to order off my computer. Brunch was ready within 15 minutes, 7 minutes earlier than estimated. Pickup was easy. It was there waiting for us and sealed for safety. We ordered the southern fried chic-wich and Swedish fruit roll up with strawberries. The chic-wich my love thought was a little dry and he wish he had some gravy or syrup to add on his waffle. I loved mine and was the perfect portion. They even listened to my side note requests and did one bacon/sausage and gave me some strawberry jam on the side. Didn't like how you have to pay extra for utensils though. This is a cute, unpretentious breakfast/brunch joint. The decor is simple but pretty cozy, with booth seating. I came here with a friend on a Wednesday morning for brunch and while it wasn't packed, there was a steady stream of customers. Our waitress was casual and nice, even bringing us lemons and a teapot full of hot water so we could refill ourselves if we wanted. Service was fast and efficient. I've read that some people dislike the fact that the menu has calorie counts printed next to each item, but I personally appreciate it. That way, you know what you're putting in your body and can cut back a little if you're watching what you eat. I don't know if they account for the extra toppings such as syrup and whipped cream though. Fresh strawberry waffle: Their waffles are delicious! They're cooked to the exact crispness where the edges are crispy and toasted but the inside is still soft. We ordered the strawberry one per the waiter's recommendation because it has fresh strawberries and glaze whereas the blueberry one has blueberries in syrup. If you're looking for a lighter option, I would say ask them to go easy on the glaze because it's pretty sweet and can overpower the freshness of the strawberries. It pretty much serves as syrup for the waffle itself. There's also a huge mound of whipped cream on top, which went very well with the waffles. Fresh Garden Omelet: This was really good, not too oily and heavy with spinach mixed into the egg and a generous portion of zucchini and other vegetables folded within. We ordered it with a side of hash browns, and these were some of the best hash browns I've ever had. The outside potatoes were crunchy and browned (but not oily) and the inside was tender and hot. So good with some ketchup splashed over them and eaten with the omelet. Overall, I really liked my experience here and will be coming back.
