First time here I love how convenient it is. We went to Table Rock beach today and finished off beach day by eating our dinner at Coyote Grill. The food is similar to El Torito. The service is great and everyone is hustling hard to provide great service. You can valet here for $6 and we noticed most people use valet here to conveniently to park and go to the beach. Small relaxed hole in the wall close to the beach serving some delicious calamari tacos! They were a bit on the salty side but very tasty. The coconut shrimp was also very delicious and I loved how the sauce had a kick to it. Our server was very kind although could have been a little more on top of the drink refills. read more

We started with a couple of their bloody Mary's which as said on the menu " they are award winning" We have tried many in and around in Laguna- Dana Point area and this is one of the best by far. The only plus is the view and location - service is bad, food is mediocre. We picked the place based on reviews here and we ended up disappointed. "Hostess" is a server too (so, she is running around and you need to wait for her to just put your name on the list - we waited at least 5 minutes, inside, having no clue what to do as there was a sign to wait to be seated but nobody there for a while). She finally showed up and she was rude - not sure why she works there when she clearly doesn't like people. She attended a different party before and she was full of attitude. Coyote Grill is a solid watering hole in south Laguna with some awesome Smoked Serrano Chile margaritas. On this day I went with the trusty calamari taco with red cabbage and some mago sauce (served by request only!) which was on point. Then had the agua chiles of shrimp which were ok. Closed out with the carne asada quesadilla that I also added mago sauce and was very tasty. Lobster season ended in March so these were good alternatives. They also have a good rewards program that gives you cash to spend based on certain benchmarks that must be achieved. I believe 200 points is $20 back. Can't beat it! Happy hour everyday from 3-6 with margaritas only costing $7 with an additional $1 upgrade on tequila of the day. read more

This place is full of ugh. The valet car service was cash only, so we had to find another place to park as we didn't have cash. Then we get in and are 4 mins early for our reservation, they told us they didn't have any space for us and it would be a wait.... What's the point of a reservation. Almost 20 mins later we were finally seated. They are not vegan friendly at all, so disregard their menu. The waitress let us know that the fryers are all shared between all of the foods so they would not be able to accommodate for an allergy. This was fine. I just changed what we ended up getting. But also if it's vegan and prepared vegan, it cannot be sharing fryers. My husband got steak fajitas with a side salad and a bacon wrapped jalapeños. The appetizers seemed like they were the frozen ones from Costco. I got chicken fajitas with a side salad and they were OK but not as good as what I've had elsewhere. Really enjoyed our food and time at Coyote Grill! They were quick to seat us, the staff was very attentive and super friendly. They had valet parking for $4 which was great considering it's on PCH. we all really loved the chips and you could tell they were freshly made and hot. I got the carnitas tacos and my husband got the carne asada tacos and shared one of each. We both agreed that they were good, but nothing spectacular as we've had better tacos before. There's limited seating on the patio but nice views of the ocean. They had big cushions for the booth seating which was so comfy. The bathrooms were nasty - looked like they hadn't been cleaned in a week and with the amount of sand in there I assume everyone came straight from the beach. Certainly a beach community joint for drinks and some good tacos. Their menu is diversely short highlighting a good array of flavors and a variety to cover the bases. This is a good sign for a place that focuses on the important things. The seafood items are fresh and prepared well. Their sauce that heightens the fish and shrimp tacos is very pleasant and delicious. The tacos are big and the two that accompany the rice and beans are portioned just right. With the exception of the refried beans tasting far too healthy, the entree was delectable. The bar and drinks is what the abundance is about. Happy hour is everyday, and the margaritas made just right without hold backs. The staff is excellent. Service is with a smile and very attentive. Weekends are a bit packed. The dining room has an excellent vibe during sunset since the view is excellent. Valet parking is $2, so give the hard workers a good tip. read more

To start, we got chips and salsa, and a side of fries because even though it wasn't exactly on the menu, they looked so good with the burgers, but we weren't in the mood for burgers. Although I am a local, for some unfathomable reason I never ate here. What a mistake! We decided to try this gem and thoroughly enjoyed it. First of all, the location is perfect, with an ocean view. The servers are so nice and good at what they do. We had Katie and she was fabulous! Of course, all of this would be nothing without delicious food and in that respect , The Coyote Grill does not disappoint. Every bite was better than next. We started off with the grilled corn appetizer. We also had guacamole, salsa and chips. Our entrées were the fish ( mahi-mahi ) tacos, which came with black beans and rice and the Carne Asada burrito. I can see why this is a local favorite! Yes, get the calamari tacos--they are great! I didn't realize that they come both fried and blackened--I got them blackened, per my waiter's recommendation and they were amazing (and less guilt). Currently, during COVID, they have both patio seating and opened part of their parking lot for outdoor dining. Service is quick and friendly and it seems this place is always pretty crowded. I went on a Sunday afternoon and there was just a short wait--not bad at all. They also have takeout. Coyote Grill is the epitome of a Mexican American restaurant. Free chips and salsa. Delicious and strong margaritias. Generous portions, high quality and flavorful food. They have a large menu and while I haven't tried it all, the locals I've talked to assured me it's all good. I ordered my food to go since I was going to eat my food at Monarch Beach. I ordered chips, salsa, one shrimp cocktail, one fish taco and one shrimp taco. I asked for lemons, and Tapatio packets to go, along with water. The packaging was different from the last time I've been here. I'm not sure if they give more or less in regards to the shrimp cocktail, but I did notice they went eco friendly packages and straws. This is one of our neighborhood eateries where we often choose to eat, particularly when we have visitors, which is why we chose this place last night. We will think hard about choosing this restaurant over our other two great options (Neapolitan & Ahba) next time. Mistakes happen, however how management handles them reveals all about how committed they are to customer service, or returning guests. Last night, after our server spilled 3 cold drinks, full of ice on our guest and drenched his top and pants - we stayed to eat as we were hungry and chose not to leave. Other than our server (Kaeli) no other staff acknowledged or apologized that our guest had to sit for dinner with wet, cold clothing! Not one staff member asked if they could bring us towels, or help in any way except move us to another table! When we received our bill I was so shocked and disappointed to find Coyote Grill chose to compensate our table (group of 5 adults) by removing / comping us for 1 appetizer!!! I acknowledged to Kaeli that we realized it was a terrible mistake but wanted to speak with the manager about why he chose to add insult to injury by being so cheap and essentially ignoring the bad situation. When he came over I was shocked to see it was a staff member who had passed our table several times without offering his apology or acknowledging in any way, what had happened. He had nothing to offer and essentially stared at me with a blank expression when I questioned his gesture of comping us with an appetizer. I had actually mentioned to Kaeli that hopefully the restaurant management would at least comp us for the drinks that drenched our guest! Later I wondered if he was actually the manager at all and realized the reason we often chose to support this local restaurant was due to the bar ambiance rather than their quality of food or service. Next time we look to enjoy a meal and support our local restaurants, this will definitely not be the place we choose. Very disappointing experience due to a total lack of concern. read more
