It's really difficult to decide where to eat; my wife and I want something different, but the family wants Chinese food. I discovered Crab Grabber in Pasadena, which serves both Chinese and boiling crab-style cuisine. Crab Grabber is a plus in Pasadena because it has its own parking area in the back. The restaurant is quite large, with plenty of space and tables. We bought two sets of Combo A with Green Mussels, Headless Shrimp with Green Onion, Ginger, and Garlic Flavor, which includes Fried Onion Rings, Steamed Chicken Juicy Dumpling, and Crunchy Breaded Shrimp. We also ordered the Roasted Fish with Garlic Flavor. The alternative Combo A that includes Friend Chicken Wings, Steamed Chicken Juicy Dumpling, and Garlic Bread, Scallion Pancake Beef Rolls. As I was taking pictures, I noticed the owner with photos with multiple Hollywood people. I spoke with the owner while we waited for our food to arrive. The owner is very kind and caring, and I can see how she takes care of her employees. Not to mention, the restaurant provides free appetizers with a variety of options such as seaweed, pickled vegetables, duck neck, duck wings, kimchi, pig ears, chicken feet, gizzards, and dessert. I love the Old Fashion Aiyu Dessert, which brings back many memories of when I was a kid in Taiwan and used to ride my little bike to buy it with my sister. Bring the family and friends to Crab Grabber to experience the incredible seafood, Chinese cuisine, and scrumptious wonderful appetizers; this will undoubtedly be your location! Come and support the business!!

We came here yesterday with some friends and loved the idea of a Szechuan twist to seafood boil! They come with a bunch of free side dishes which were actually quite yummy and their spice definitely has some spice to it. I have mixed feelings about this place because there were some items we loved, but some that were so mid and the service was extremely slow. We got 2 Combo As doing mostly snow crabs and some shrimp, trying both Chinese flavors and Sweet Potato Fries/Steamed Dumplings. Note we also requested regular fries and never got those. I asked about this maybe an hour 45 min in and they still never came. The steamed dumplings came maybe an hour and a half in and were straight up cold. The sweet potato fries were ok but nothing special. I will say the actual seafood boil was delicious and the szechuan flavor was really good. The corn was delicious and the sausages were great add ons. Note 1 lb of snow crab is literally one cluster and that's it. We also ordered the Spicy Fried Chicken and Cucumber Egg dish. The fried chicken was so good but definitely very spicy. Our first dish came more than an hour in which was only 1 seafood boil. By the time it had hit 2 hours, we still hadn't received the cucumber egg. We asked them to cancel it if it wasn't made yet and they eventually brought it out but did take it off the tab. The owner tried to explain to us that they were down a chef and that's why things were just a tad slower today, but I think it was way more than a tad. Overall, definitely some yummy things but make sure you are allocating 2.5-3 hours to dine here.

Currently sitting here while waiting for half the order to come out. We got seated at 6:08. It is now 7:43pm. No one came to apologize for the long delay. We asked a server to check on our order and never came back to update us. We asked a second waiter and he noted that something happened with the kitchen and it's been really busy for them. If you're running a business, you need to be considerate of other people's times. Don't seat and take people's order more than you can take, only to piss them off and not tell them it's going to be a 2 hour wait for food to come out. Not to mention, they have a self serve bar. Nothing was being replenished. There are 3 wait staff and they weren't going around being apologetic that the kitchen is being slow. I might've been more understanding, but 2 hours for this experience is awful. We received our seafood plate 1.5 hour into being seated. All our sides didn't even come out yet and we were already finished eating the entire seafood. We're also missing an entree still. Almost 2 hours. Never coming back. Go to boiling crab. Food isn't even that good.

2nd time coming. This time for my bday! We were ready to order the combo again, but they got a new extensive menu and zoomed in on the roasted fish!! My friend doesn't like spicy so we got the garlic sauce and side of rice. This fish fed 3 people! Plus we were munching on the free appetizers. Fish was phenomenal! We got the same server. Perfect service as always! She even remembered us from the previous time!

Came here with my husband and our twin girls, and it turned out to be such a great experience! We ordered Combo A and went with 1 lb of shrimp and 1 lb of crawfish, plus fries, corn, and potatoes--medium spicy with the mix of all sauce. Everything came out flavorful, saucy, and messy in the best way possible. The sauce combo was seriously delicious, and the spice level had just the right kick without being overwhelming. One thing that really stood out was their complimentary sides bar--it's kind of like a mini buffet with lots of options to add to your meal, which we didn't expect but definitely appreciated! The portions were generous too--we actually had leftovers and made sure to take extra sauce to go (it's that good). What really made the visit extra special though was the owner. She was so sweet and thoughtful--on our way out, she gave our twins some snacks, which totally made their day. Great food, great service, and a welcoming, family-friendly vibe. We'll definitely be back!

Good addition to the East Pasadena dining scene with a variety of Chinese/Cantonese style dishes as well as their popular seafood broil. We opted for the flavorful garlic butter, but there are lots of spicy options if you want some heat. There are self serve appetizer and snacks stations included with your meal selection. Nice owner and plenty of parking in the rear lot.

A great spot for sharing a seafood boil! The four of us ordered a combo with clams, snow crab legs, and a double portion of peeled shrimp. It also came with vegetables, corn, and potatoes, and we chose the garlic butter flavor, which was delicious. The combo includes a choice of sides as well, and we went with onion rings, egg rolls, and XLB. Before the seafood arrived, we helped ourselves to the self-serve bar, which had a variety of small dishes like cucumber salad, shredded potato salad, tofu, and seaweed salad. There were plenty of options to choose from. I did noticed many items were spicy so watch out. The service was friendly and welcoming, with smiles all around. We arrived early around 5pm, but the restaurant quickly filled up and was packed by dinner time on a Friday night. We had a great meal here and would definitely recommend it--and happily come back again.

This is a popular, relatively new seafood boil place that also mixes in Chinese food on their menu. I would have to say that our experience was overall pretty good, with a few hiccups that hopefully they will work out in the near future. First off, they opened in a really nondescript building in what is now one of the sketchier, abandoned areas of East Pasadena now overrun with homeless, prostitutes, and mentally ill people wandering around. While this is not their fault in the least, it does make someone who knows the area wonder why here. The outside is still the same bleak, run down exterior of the previous tenant - a long running, now closed Japanese restaurant. The interior, though, while nothing fancy has cleaned up nice. They offer a rather large free buffet bar for all diners full of all kinds of specifically authentic Chinese appetizers, from cucumber salad to sweet red bean soup to all kinds of innards and spicy tofu. So, people seem to really enjoy all that free stuff. Parking is also easy here, either on the street or in the lot they have in back. Tonight, on a Sunday, it was very busy. While there was no wait to be seated, there was only one server and one host. Then a couple more male servers seemed to appear to help out over time. The fact they're so understaffed is one of the bigger drawbacks right now. The servers are friendly and helpful in general, but when it is packed they can only run around so fast. They need to hire more staff for when they are busy. I assume the kitchen has the same issues, as it took almost an hour to get scallion pancakes and 25 minutes to get a 1/2 lb of sausage we forgot to originally order with our meal (This must be one of the only boil places where they don't include sausage but give you broccoli). We got the Combo B, which was $90 for 4 lbs of seafood, four half pieces of corn that add up to one cob total, a couple of potatoes, two hard boiled eggs, and broccoli, along with your choice of 3 "fried items". We got 1 lb. of snow crab and 3 lbs. of peeled shrimp in their everything sauce, spicy. It was a good sauce and a large amount of shrimp. The potatoes were quite a bit hard and undercooked, but oh well. For the fried items we had the onion rings, which were chewy inside and still a bit raw, the french fries, which they completely forgot to salt at all, and the garlic bread (2 pieces). The sides weren't great. Real bad was the $10 for 1/2 lb. of average sausage, not andouille, as is custom. It didn't finally make it out until everything else was eaten. And, worst of all were the $11 scallion pancakes. They took nearly an hour to come out, came out way near the end of eating, and were dreadfully uncooked, floppy, and drowning in oil. One bite and I threw in the towel. Don't order the sausage or the scallion pancakes! So, would I go back? I think so. I did like their sauce. I might try their Chinese food menu items for their lunch specials. It will be better once they get their liquor license, which they are still waiting on. Lose the broccoli and put a 1/4 lb. of sausage in the regular boil. And please find more staff as soon as possible. Still, despite these problems, probably due to the fact they've been open less than a year, people seem excited to try the place and I believe things will get better and smoother. Give it a try.

I've never tasted such disgusting crayfish in my life. It was called "hand-held seafood", but in fact, it was just pre-marinated bagged seafood. The ingredients were very old and the seafood was all frozen. The taste was extremely bland, lacking any flavor or distinctive features. It was even bitter.

The place is huge and can accommodate large party! All the entrees come with a large selection of cold dishes. Spicy beef with tongue, duck necks, edamame, fried peanuts, sweet Chinese dessert soup and many others. We had mild combo A with shrimp and spicy beef dry hot pot. The dry hot was very, very spicy for us and we can take the heat. The combo A served with different type of sauce and we had the Cajun style. It was mediocre, didn't taste the Cajun spices at all. All the portions are huge when combined with the cold dishes appetizers bar, we didn't even make a dent. The services are excellent and very attentive. Plenty of free parking in the back and off street parking as well.

Looking for a unique dining experience that perfectly blends Eastern and Western flavors? Crab Grabber in Pasadena is your next must-visit spot! Start off with unlimited Asian appetizers -- yes, you read that right: UNLIMITED cold dishes including salads, spicy duck feet and pig ears, desserts, and much more. For the main dish, the Cajun seafood is the star -- so delicious and perfect to pair with all those appetizers. We also loved their new items, especially the tea-smoked duck. IG: socalhkfoodies

We came to Crab Grabber with friends after seeing many glowing reviews and raving TikTok/reel videos, which were already a bit suspicious. Crab Grabber offers seafood boil and also traditional Chinese dishes, so it seems to be very abundant in options. The crab boil deals also seem to be such a steal since it includes your seafood of choice as well as sides. They even have a serve yourself buffet area where you can get some salads or very niche Chinese dishes that you don't typically see which is really cool. However, I feel that with so much that Crab Grabber is trying to do - complimentary buffet section, crab boil, Chinese food, they fall short in truly excelling or doing one exceptionally well. Crab boil is what we came for and it was pretty lackluster in flavor. Not enough seasoning. Do not be expecting your typical Cajun experience here. They're pretty skimpy on the sides. We were rationing them between our group. We didn't particularly like any of the complimentary sides either. Same thing - big batch but no flavor. I think the price point is very compelling so this is would be a great option for crab boil on a budget!

"Dry" spicy fried fish dish - so good!

This place is off of Colorado in Pasadena - close to the Cadillac dealership. Don't be fooled by the outside/signage - this place is delicious and very generous with their portions. I'd describe it as a combination of boiling crab and Phoenix Chinese restaurant. The service by Kelli was outstanding! They have a large parking lot in the back and street parking in front. We tried kung pao shrimp, the fried "dry" spicy fish, cabbage dish, and the peeled shrimp with corn, potato and eggs. You can customize your spice level for every dish. They have a complimentary snack. Will definitely be back!

This time, we ordered the Shrimp with Cashew Nuts and the Beef with Chinese Broccoli. The Shrimp with Cashew Nuts was absolutely delicious, but unfortunately, the Beef with Chinese Broccoli was extremely salty. After just one bite, I honestly couldn't eat any more of it. I have always liked this restaurant and have been coming here frequently over the years. I've enjoyed their lobster several times with my family, and almost every dish I've tried here has been delicious. That's why I was especially disappointed with the Beef with Chinese Broccoli this time, as it was far too salty. Despite that, I still think this is a great place for lunch. Their lunch specials are reasonably priced, the service is always good, and the portions of rice are very generous. One thing I especially appreciate is the complimentary orange slices they serve to every customer after the meal. The oranges are always fresh and sweet, making a nice ending to lunch. One other thing I noticed during this visit was that the restroom now has a new premium hand soap. I don't remember seeing it before, and it was a nice little upgrade that added a touch of luxury hand soap to the overall experience. Overall, I still enjoy coming here and will definitely be back. Hopefully, the kitchen can be a little more careful with the seasoning next time .

Both cocktails were light on the palate with enough of a hit, not too sugary. Paired well with Oysters. The House Pan Roast. Without question I'd recommend to anyone who's visiting here the first time. I was originally going to settle for some market price lobster pasta but decided since everyone posted the House Pan Roast Steam the most might as well. Great choice regardless. Bartender Manager very professional. You feel taken care of. Ambiance without question excellent dine in atmosphere, very modern decor. So I just came back from a dispatch to Lansing Michigan and ate at one of their Seafood Boils...does not compare to this establishment in Temple City Los Angeles!!!

The food arrived within 10 minutes of ordering. The crab roll was packed full of crab meat inside the toasted bun. I love whatever sauce they put on top + the lemon which made the crab meat ridiculously refreshing. The side of salad helped me feel better about eating healthy too and was a nice textural break from the crab roll. Overall, the crab roll tastes relatively similar to what I had at Lobster and Beer. It was very satisfying and I can't wait to come back for the lobster roll. Until I find out they switched to a poke shop instead. What a loss.

The place was spotlessly clean, the staff were genuinely friendly, and right at the entrance you're greeted with Top Yelp awards, which immediately sets the expectation high (and they deliver). We ordered both the Classic lobster roll and the Connecticut-style. The bread was warm, crispy, and perfectly toasted, the lobster was fresh and generously portioned, and nothing felt overdone or skimpy -- just balanced and done right. The sides paired perfectly with the rolls and rounded out the meal nicely. The tatertots and fries were crispy and satisfying and well seasoned! Highly recommended!!

We ordered French style beef, house special fried chow mein, honey walnut shrimp and steamed rice. First of all, the serving portions were very generous. All came in very large plates. The beef was saucy, tender and flavorful. In other restaurants, they add mushrooms to fill the plate. Here, the plate is full of just large chunks of beef. The shrimp in the honey walnut dish were large prawns. They were moist, succulent and tender. It had a rich flavor because of the mayo. The chow mein was full of chicken, shrimp, squid and octopus. It was perfectly crispy and saucy at the same time. We ate to our heart's content and ended up taking home plenty of leftovers enough for another meal. Our total bill was a little over $108 with tip. We will definitely be back. Parking is valet only and cost is $5.

Everything was good and nothing missed the mark, except the lobster had a ridiculous amount of green onions and they skimped on the noodles. I felt that the noodles were also overcooked and lack flavor of their own. For a Chinese restaurant, there was pretty quick service. Waiters frequent the table to collect dirty dishes and refill waters

We were seated right away when we arrived, although it took a while before anyone came to take our order. We started with the sizzling razor clams, and honestly, they were the highlight of the meal, perfectly cooked, well seasoned, and a great start. Unfortunately, things went downhill from there. I ordered the Bun Bo Hue, and it really missed the mark. Several ingredients felt poorly prepared. The tendon was so tough it was basically inedible and had to be pushed aside. The pork blood tasted like it had been cooked separately since it had none of the broth flavor soaked into it. Even the beef slices felt out of place, almost like they had been pulled from a pho bowl and dropped into the BBH at the last minute. The broth itself lacked the richness, spice, and strong lemongrass flavor that normally makes Bun Bo Hue stand out. It just tasted flat. There was also a mix-up with our order when the wrong dish came out instead of the lobster. When the lobster finally arrived, it was badly overcooked and much smaller than what was shown on the menu. On top of that, the music was blasting the entire time, no one really checked in to see how things were going, and it took multiple attempts just to get our check. When we mentioned the food issues, the response was basically, "We'll let the chef know." Not exactly the kind of service you hope for after a disappointing meal. Really wanted to like this place, especially after such a strong start with the razor clams, but overall it ended up being a letdown.

We ordered Cured Pork Carbonara, Sesame Oil Chicken & Poached Egg Risotto and Sweet & Sour Fried Chicken Waffle. Some very distinctive and classic Taiwanese flavors came through in the dishes. I appreciate the chef trying to accentuate the essence of Taiwanese food. However, some combinations seemed a bit forced. Like the pink sauce in sweet and sour chicken and waffle is reminiscent of the pink sauce on Taiwanese "meatball". But when it's on the fried chicken with popcorn chicken seasoning, it doesn't really go together. The classic Sesame Oil Chicken & Poached Egg Risotto is very generous in the ingredients and the sesame oil chicken flavor is spot on. But the menu says "risotto" and the actual dish is like porridge with the rice kernels broken apart. We all thought the cured pork in Cured Pork Carbonara is overpowering the carbonara and lacking the creaminess from the egg and cheese sauce. The service was excellent. The waiter came multiple times to refill our water. The moody interior is beautifully designed. Even the bathroom is well appointed with Aesop hand soap. Again, I applaud the restaurant for elevating Taiwanese food but the flavors could use some tweaking so it's not so forced. It's nice to have a delightful space for a Taiwanese forward cuisine that's not a hole in a wall. Pro tip - their menu and hours change periodically. The happy hour menu and time we saw on their instagram post from a month ago is no longer offered.
