Sunrise Pancake Special with soft scrambled eggs.
    Gina R.

The General Store always conjures up a sweet memory when you look at the candy. I was seated by the door, not a place I'd really recommend due to the traffic of diners coming and going. My server arrived, no introduction, and asked what I'd like to drink. I ordered a decaf coffee. I was in the mood for pancakes and they didn't disappoint (my stomach could only handle 1, sadly ). The pancake sunrise offers 2 pancakes and either 2 eggs (cooked to your preference) or 2 sausages/bacon. I picked the eggs, soft scrambled and added a fruit cup. The eggs were softer than they looked and tasty with pepper and Cholula hot sauce! I must say that I was satisfied. As I sat, the place filled up and the conversation levels increased. It was my signal to head out.

    Tierra - the best server!!

I have to say that tiara provided exemplary customer service today! Despite having only two stars on her apron, she deserves five! Her high level of attention to detail at ensuring the customer received exactly what they wanted and how they wanted is beyond reproach. Her genuine smile and pleasant demeanor just makes you wanna talk to her even more because she treats you like you're her most important customer. I even listen to her talk to another table where they were not being very nice and the way she managed that dialogue was outstanding. Tierra is a true role model.

At 10 am on a Saturday there was no wait to be seated. This is very unusual. Cracker Barrel usually has a line due to the close proximity to the interstate and people traveling from outside the southeast thinking this is the best southern food available. The menu has been changed over the years and some of the best meals have been eliminated. That would be a corporate decision and probably due to rising food cost making proving some of these options unreasonable. Anyway, we were seated right away, the server was prompt to get our drink order, came right back and took our food order. She was a little bit snarky but I think she was just having a little fun. The eggs were fine, the country ham isn't very salty and the bacon was perfect. The quality of the biscuits has really gone down.

You can't go wrong at Cracker Barrel. Consistent comfort food. Love the dumplings and the fried chicken

I love the old southern style of a good cracker barrel. The shop gives you something to do while waiting for a table. The food was great and we enjoyed the server who was awesome and made sure we had everything we needed.

Ordered soup & salad with our meal After waiting over 20 minutes, our server brought everything at one time They keep lowering their standards for plate ware., New small plastic soup bowls, no soup spoons, no saucer for hot tea had to put the teabag on the table, no bread plates And worse the food was like warm. I still miss the oil lamps, there is still a hole in the table where they used to secure them, no music playing.

Leo was our waiter. Very nice and professional. Our beverages and dinner orders were promptly served. He checked to make we were happy with our meals... I like the fresh look inside, replacing the antiques and old tools. We had the Wednesday dinner special: broccoli cheddar chicken. Very tasty.

The honey mustard that comes with the chicken and waffles is so good, the chicken has a great crunch and the waffle was perfectly crunchy yet chewy. The raspberries with the white chocolate was a nice sweet and sour balance. It is pricier than you'd expect for what it is but it was a nice treat. The ham was below average, with one hard bit. My wife didn't like that there was so little pineapple in it. Our Napoleon pastry was pretty good, and I might get it again ($5 for a small one). We both preferred it to the brownie ($4). I don't particularly like brownies, but this one looked particularly appetizing, and the order-taker said it was one of her favorites, so we tried it. That was a mistake. Perhaps I should have tried the mini cream puffs, which are a favorite of mine (3 for $5), instead. Among other things I usually like, they had carrot cake for $7 and a cup of cheesecake for $9 (which seems steep). Their fruit shaped pastries looked beautiful (and a couple next to us said they loved the mango one), but were $12 each. Their fruit-topped Danishes also looked delicious, but weren't available any more at lunch time. They also offer milk shakes and loaded (sweet) croissants. There are only four stools here next to a bar, if you want to eat in. The bathroom was pretty good. I probably wouldn't come here again, but if I were in the area I might try some of their other pastries or sweet treats.

Well... we finally stopped in, and it did NOT disappoint! For me, the bread can make or break a sandwich, and this was hands down some of the best sandwich bread I've had in a long time. My husband, on the other hand, isn't nearly as enthusiastic when it comes to food. So when he said--and I quote--"This may be the best sandwich I've had in a very, very long time," I knew that was the highest praise this place could get! The edges on the pancake were crispy - just the way I like it! I had no issues with my eggs, which usually turn out medium to hard scrambled. THAT alone was a huge plus! The turkey patties were spicy and they even had actual hot sauce, Louisiana with the red dot, and not tabasco sauce, as if it's the same thing. This establishment did my breakfast and me right! New Berlin Fish House is actually one of my favorite seafood restaurants. I've eaten here quite a few times and have had good experiences in the past, which is why what happened on September 8th around 7:30 p.m. was so disappointing. When my partner and I walked in, I could tell the restaurant may have been running behind. There were quite a few occupied tables, but I noticed that many people were still waiting for their food. We stood at the entrance for approximately five minutes without being greeted before Savannah E. eventually told us, "We'll be with you in a moment." She then went to another table and began clearing a table. Another waitress passed us and also said someone would be with us shortly. By this point, we had been standing there close to ten minutes. Eventually, Savannah returned, grabbed two menus, and was preparing to seat us. I politely asked if we could sit in a booth. Her immediate response was, "I guess," followed by an explanation that they were short-staffed and were trying to close down one side of the restaurant. Being short-staffed is completely understandable. Wanting to close a section of the restaurant is understandable. What I didn't appreciate was the attitude behind "I guess." A simple, "We're actually trying to close this section because we're short-staffed, but let me see what I can do," would have communicated the exact same thing while still making a customer feel welcome. What Savannah didn't know is that I have back issues, and sitting in a booth helps me remain upright and more comfortable while eating. I shouldn't have to disclose my medical history to make a simple seating request, but had she politely explained the situation, I would have gladly explained why I was asking. Afterward, she took the menus and walked across the restaurant toward a table without saying anything to us. There was no "right this way," "follow me," or even an indication that we should follow her. She simply walked to the table and looked back at us. At that point, I told my partner that I no longer felt comfortable staying, so we left without ordering. For context, I know Savannah's name because she has actually served me before. She was our waitress when I came to New Berlin Fish House the morning I was getting married, and I had no issue with her service then. I also keep photos of my receipts, so I was able to confirm her name from that previous visit. I'm mentioning this because I don't want anyone to think I am randomly identifying an employee or guessing who assisted us. I understand that restaurants get busy. I understand being short-staffed. I understand employees having stressful nights. What I don't think customers should have to accept is feeling like they're an inconvenience simply for walking through the door and asking for a booth. For someone who doesn't get out often, this was supposed to be an enjoyable night out. Instead, we left before we ever had the opportunity to eat. That's especially disappointing because I genuinely like New Berlin Fish House and have chosen to spend my money there many times before. Customer service matters just as much as the food. When I spend my money somewhere, I don't expect perfection, but I do expect to feel welcome.

Unfortunately, I'm not in the area that much, and only once did I make the journey just to come here. What is the draw, you may ask? Great beer, great food, great atmosphere, great vibes! , That said, every meal I have had here has been delicious. The beer is pretty darn good & cold too! Of course, with the long drive...ya gotta limit it. But it's worth it for anything on the menu. I don't know where to start food-wise, I am trying to eat my way around the menu. The gator tail and fish dip are two of my favorites for small bites/appetizers. The Elk burger, the Taphouse burger, and the Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich are always amazing....and then there's the cole slaw...yummy! Delicious food, and they have more than just sandwiches. The menu offers a little something different. The atmosphere and vibe are always inviting, and the staff is super friendly. The prices are fair, portions are ample, and there is plenty of parking. The decor is fun too! Not to mention, they give a veteran discount with proof of ID. What more can you ask for? Well, I know what I can ask for! To the owners: pretty please, with sugar on top, consider opening a location in St. Augustine. Not in the downtown area, but the folks north of town need something; they need you! Around the Palencia & Kensington area, off US 1 to be exact...or anywhere nearby in that area. The folks there would love something they can walk to, ride bikes to, maybe even use a golf cart to get to...and yes, a short drive is good too. Jus' sayin'!
