It's Cracker Barrel. Pretty simple formula. Cute old-timey store. Comfort food. Relaxed environment. This would be among my last choice options for food in LaGrange. I went on Monday and they had a Pork chop special. It was sooo not special. It was the driest piece of meat I had ever been served in a restaurant. I ate a bite and just couldn't eat any more. I asked if the pork chops were usually like this and the server said she hadn't eaten them. I was offered a re-make and I reluctantly agreed (I hate sending food back). The replacements had a little more life to them but were still very dry and had zero seasoning. I drowned them in sauce and choked them down. Aside from that, my salad was fresh and the cheesy hash browns were ok. Orders were wrong. Glasses set empty for a while. My mom asked for vinegar 4 times before she got it. This is our local Cracker Barrel, we have given this place at least three try's to improve , but almost everytime my food is not very warm , like it has been sitting on the bar for awhile . This last time we were seated and not even given silverware. The server was not very attentive, couldn't get a refill of water , seemed like she was not really wanting to be there. At least fake it for the customer! Our food took over an hour to come out, the good wasn't too bad , but it never seem to be hot off the grill at this location. When we did get our order, it was wrong, items were missing, and it was so cold the butter on the pancakes would not melt. Our waiter told us several times they were short staffed. Every time I go to this Cracker Barrel I say its going to be the last time but like a dummy we tried again after a few months thinking they may have gotten their act together. Nope even worse than ever. Four kids on the hostess stand telling people no kitchen help. Um why are you guys not back there helping instead of four people telling people you can't seat them? Corporate really needs to step in and straighten out Lagrange Cracker Barrel or just close it down, this store gives the company a bad reputation. We called ahead and when got there were up on the list while they were telling people 45 minutes yet after watching people from several tables leave the dining area complaining they still did not seat anyone for the hour we waited. Very disappointed, I grew up in La Grange, was passing back through going home, stopped to grab a bite to eat. Every dish and utensil we had at our table was dirty, thought at first it was a few spots from their dishwasher but inspecting further there was greasy grim all over everything, you could feel it on the glasses and plates, we left shortly after receiving our meals, the only pleasant thing about going there was that our waitress was very nice, still tipped her for the meal, not her fault the dishes were dirty. First, I would like to say that my rating of this restaurant has nothing, absolutely nothing to do with our waitress. She went above and beyond for me today, which I will explain, and I made sure she was well rewarded for that. We really had a difficult time trying to find a restaurant that was open on Thanksgiving. We finally gave up and went to Cracker Barrel. There are usually a few items I can have at Cracker Barrel, so we figured it was a safe bet. First thing we noticed is it was very, very crowded! We were told our wait would be 35 minutes and we both shrugged and walked around the country store. I don't think we waited more than five minutes which was good. When we sat down they gave us menus. Not only do I have to eat gluten-free and I cannot have pork, but I also am losing my eyesight, so I asked for a braille menu. Of course they didn't have braille menus of the current menu being used today. Again, not the fault of our waitress. She was just doing her job and she did it very well. Nearly everything, and I do mean everything, had gluten in it. I finally picked out roast beef, no mention of gravy whatsoever, potatoes and carrots. Turns out they cook the roast beef and gravy. The waitress was quick on her feet and asked me if I could have grilled chicken breasts. Of course, I was happy to accept that as my meal and they brought me extra carrots along with my potatoes for the trouble. My son got a breakfast. He got sausage patties and one of them appeared not to be cooked completely. He went ahead and ate it, but it was a little bit concerned about doing so. He said the eggs were good, as were the pancakes, but the eggs were not nearly as good as the ones we raise on our farm even though they are advertised as "farm fresh." I went to pay the bill for us and was surprised at exactly how much it cost us to eat that relatively ordinary meal. I made sure I tacked on a very good tip for the waitress because she really was amazing. If it had not been for The waitress and the delicious food, we would not have rated this Cracker Barrel as high as we did. And to not be prepared for people with vision impairments who have special diets is really not a good thing. I suspect there was something with gluten in something I ate, as my stomach has been having horrible cramps all evening. Apparently they don't have any way to separate the food in their restaurant so that people who cannot have gluten won't be exposed to it. This is extremely disappointing, especially once you get the bill. So, the food was excellent, it tasted very good, but the price was high. The restaurant was extremely crowded, which we kind of expected for a holiday, even though we personally don't celebrate holidays. We were seated much faster than we planned on. Overall it was a decent meal and we were happy with it except for the price vs quality. read more

Stopped in for a quick bite after 3pm this afternoon. Five at the table ordered salad. 10 minutes later our waitress informed us they were out of lettuce. One substiituted kale salad. 10 minutes later, she was informed, no kale today. 40 minutes later our meals arrived. Grilled catfish was good but the fried catfish looked like last weeks fish. Dried up and freezing cold. :-( Two in our group had 5 minutes to eat before needing to leave for the airport. The new piece of fried catfish finally made it to the table but half of our party was gone. This was not the down home, good feelin, comforting lunch experience we expected from Cracker Barrel. When we're coming back from Cincinnati or somewhere else in the northeast & the hunger is increasing as we get closer to home, we always stop here. All of them are the same. People like to say great home cooking... Pfft! If I want cooking like this, then I'm going to make a trip to my parent's house. Leaps & bounds over anything a restaurant can throw at me. I normally order breakfast here. Typical toast. Edible eggs. Burnt bacon(when will places learn that extra crispy bacon isn't the best bacon)?! Puffy pancakes. Sweet syrup. It's better than any other fast food alternative that you'll find in the area. It is fun to go here & look around the store sometimes. It's an easy way to holiday/birthday shop for your family. With all of the nostalgic candy everywhere, you'll definitely feel like a kid no matter how old you are. Any other Cracker Barrel in the area would receive 2 stars from me. Avoid this restaurant! We just stopped there on our trip from Louisville to Pennsylvania and it was terrible. I usually love Cracker Barrel on road trips because it is consistent, but this restaurant was anything but that. My oatmeal was hard and served with only a few pieces of dried fruit and apples. At my local CB, it comes with apples on top and dried fruit, pecans, brown sugar and milk on the side. I had to ask for milk at this place. I still couldn't eat it though...it tasted like it was a couple of days old! It didn't get taken off of our bill though. My husband's gravy tasted undercooked (it tasted too much like flour). This is a really nice and relaxing little restaurant. A lot of people come here for thanksgiving because of the meager little things they do for the holidays. I like to come eat late dinners there when the sun goes down because they light all the little lanterns on the tables and they keep the fireplace going. Especially in the Fall. They normally have a lot of new employees working there so if You want excellent service with Zero mess-ups then please ask to for your server to be someone who is no a new employee so that you won't have to worry about them getting your order wrong. read more

Worst service ever! First we waited five minutes for someone to stop by our table for him to tell us someone had taken his pen so he couldn't take our order. I asked if he could get our drinks. He took the drink order. Five minutes later a different server brought our drinks and said the other guy was too busy and he took our order. During our 45 minute wait for our food, I finally got up and went to the kitchen and asked for biscuits because we never received any. Finally got the biscuits no jelly and no plates. Our server brought plates a few minutes later and the bottom plate was dirty. Food was brought, had to ask ANOTHER server for napkins and ketchup. Waited 15 minutes for our check. They were not that busy, steady but not slammed. Got up to the cashier, was telling her how terrible it was so she called the manager. The only thing he did was say he would talk to the server. Avoid this Cracker Barrel! Usually Cracker Barrel is a place we can count on for consistency and good food. Not this one. They don't even know how to cook an egg over medium. My husband and went for breakfast and ordered two eggs over medium and "thick sliced" bacon. Got thin bacon and two eggs that were barely over easy. We went there twice because it was close to our hotel. I urge you to go somewhere else. The first time we went we had such a bad waitress that we had to ask for a new one. She was quite lazy and did not want to give us silverware or our water. She slammed the waters down in front of me and told me to pass them to everybody. Our second waitress was awesome that's the only reason this place gets three stars. We ended up getting two meals free, and all her desserts for free. The reason for this is they ran out of our meal but didn't tell us until all the other meals were ready. So we had to wait an extra 15 minutes after everyone have their food. The food was quite good. But upon returning two nights later for dinner. Most of us got the exact same food, But it was very subpar. Mine was overcooked and dry. My husband's fish that was phenomenal tonight earlier was just not very tasty. He said it was mediocre. My mother who really liked her chicken BLT the first time we were there really did not like it the second time. The second waitress was OK. We figure that Cracker Barrel must not train their waitresses very good though. She never cleaned off our table unless we ask her to take a plate. She just kept piling new plates on. It was packed today at lunch but I was still seated quickly. I tried the new trout dish (southern style under 600 calories) it was fast and the broccoli was fresh. I work at a nearby retail establishment and we like to order takeout every week for dinner. The last time we ordered the food was completely wrong on 3 of 5 orders and we were overcharged. The manager was great and gave us 3 meals for free to make up for this. Kudos for him trying to make it right, but this time our coworker had to wait 45 minutes for our order, 2 of the 5 orders were incorrect, obviously everything was bone cold, and we were overcharged, again. Cracker Barrel is one of those places that you can eat a hot home cooked meal. It's very cozy restaurant with great food. And in the fall and winter you have this huge crackling fireplace that smells so good and adds to the ambiance of the room. Makes you want to Come again and again. My favorite chicken fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans and milk gravy drizzled over the chicken and mashed potatoes. Yum yum yum! And one can not visit Cracker Barrel without looking at everything in their gift shop. All the new seasonal Knick-knacks. Which make great gifts for that very special person. Or better yet, in your own home. This is one restaurant I will go to again and again!! read more
