I really wanted to love this place. I had high hopes for some good Southern comfort food, and while there were definitely some positives, the food just didn't do it for me. First, the good stuff...the staff was super friendly, the country-style decor is fun, and I love the rocking chairs out front. There's plenty of seating, the prices are reasonable with options starting around $8, and they have some great deals. We were also given complimentary biscuits and gravy before our meal, kind of like getting chips and salsa at a Mexican restaurant, which I thought was a nice touch. Unfortunately, the biscuits and gravy were a miss. The biscuits were hard, dry, and pretty flavorless, and the gravy didn't have much flavor either. I added quite a bit of salt and pepper, but it didn't help much. I ended up scraping off the gravy and adding honey to the biscuit just to make it edible. I ordered the Sausage Hashbrown Casserole, which looked SO pretty when it came out. Unfortunately, it was another flavor disappointment. I couldn't really taste the different layers, except for the occasional bite of onion. I ended up eating mostly the hashbrown layer on the bottom. The surprise highlight was the Loaded Tater Tots! Crispy on the outside, warm and melty inside, and perfectly seasoned. The only downside was that the cheese wasn't actually melted. It looked like it had just been sprinkled on top. Since you pay extra for the cheese and bacon, I would have liked to see everything melted together. Overall, I think I'd give it another chance, but I'd probably skip breakfast and try something from the lunch or dinner menu or skip the meals all together and just order the tots! I think the experience has a lot of potential, but unfortunately the food didn't live up to the Southern comfort food I was hoping for. read more

Decided to try eating in the restaurant today instead of takeout , because our takeout has usually been a disaster with things missing and incorrect. We have the fried cheese and onion petals as appetizers and they were hot n yummy. Our meals arrived hot, tasty, and complete. The kid's meal actually had two oversized sliders with a side. My Fried chicken was crunchy and delightful and my husband's chicken fried steak with gravy was excellent, as well Our Server Trevor was fabulous. He was there when we needed anything from drink refills to ranch dressing. Don't remember the last time we had such a fabulous Server. Thanks a million Trevor. You made our meal that much more enjoyable. I guess we were beating the dinner hour because the restaurant was pretty empty when we arrived. Restaurant was clean and well lit. Parking is always easy. Cracker Barrel has usually been a reliable stop for us. The chicken and dumplings have always been good and satisfying, and the other staples, like their meatloaf and chicken dishes, have been pretty consistent in quality--not mind-blowing, but definitely good value in terms of quantity and quality for the price. We've always found the service to be warm and friendly, and the environment, with its quaint wall decorations and the little country store, to be cheery and charming. This last visit, though, made it seem like things are slipping a bit. There was no line, but we still ended up needing to get someone's attention (after about five minutes of waiting) to seat us, and then we ended up having to go get someone's else's attention (again after about five minutes of waiting) to come and take our order. The person who initially seated us and then chased down our server (Adrienne or Adrianne) was apologetic, but the manager, who came by to take our drink order because the server was still backed up with another order, was not. All of this was already a concern, but then unfortunately the food was way too salty--the chicken in the chicken and dumplings was inedible, and the trout I ordered was just past the borderline of being too salty. The meat in the pinto beans side dish was WAY too salty. So, just not really a good experience at a place that's usually been fine for us. We appreciated that when we paid our bill the manager discussed the quality of the food with us, but there wasn't really any gesture beyond that to acknowledge that multiple aspects of our visit were subpar. read more

Dang! They need more of these spots in California. Stopped at this one right if Interstate 80 before checking into my hotel. Promptly seated and served by the most gregarious server ever. Great positive attitude and a recommendation on almost everything on the menu. The restaurant was quiet for a mid afternoon lunch but it has all the charm of a country kitchen. Considering your other breakfast options in Reno, this is top tier baby! I came here to get some real food in my tummy and this hit the spot. As with all Cracker Barrel's the place is clean, the parking lot is clean, the service is quick, the bathrooms are working. My waitress was quick on the orders and coffee refills. I got The Country Boy Breakfast and everything tasted great. The ham was a little hard to cut because it contained a bone and my butter knife wasn't do the job. Introduced to Cracker Barrel years ago on a work trip to Kentucky, I have been a fan ever since of their chicken and dumplings, various sides, and nostalgia-filled storefront, seeking out locations while on trips for work or vacation. Yes, some of my friends and relations have found it amusing, but since there weren't any locations near my home, it was a fun addon to my itinerary. So, I was inordinately pleased to discover this Cracker Barrel now so close to home! I've enjoyed a visit at this location a handful of times, and since at least a month or two has passed since the last one, decided it was time for a chicken and dumplings dinner. Things started out a little rough, and got rougher. We arrived 30 minutes prior to closing, and waited and waited to catch anyone's attention to seat us. Finally had to interrupt a very lengthy transaction at checkout to ask if they were done seating for dinner. The hostess immediately apologized and got us seated. But then we had to go back and ask if anyone was going to take our order after sitting again unnoticed. The manager came out and took our drink order followed by our long-awaited waiter. The food arrived pretty quickly, but sadly, this was the worst part of the visit. The chicken in the dumplings was so incredibly salty I actually couldn't eat it. I hate returning food, but I had to ask if something could be done. The waiter consulted with the manager, and they brought out a freshly cooked chicken breast made "without any seasonings." This is surprising since I've had bland chicken before, but here there must have been so much salt left in the cooktop, this "unseasoned" version actually came out pretty perfectly seasoned. Three stars instead of two because of loyalty to the brand concept, as well as because of the excellent customer service provided by the hostess and manager. Both did their best to ensure a good experience, and the manager also asked for feedback after the meal. I'm pretty nervous about ordering from here again, but I hope some changes are reflected in the seasoning levels, and that there's a return to the former well-loved recipe. read more

I love visiting Cracker Barrel more for the store than the restaurant. That being said, I went to lunch here and decided to try the summer special, Campfire Beef. It came out wrapped in the foil it was cooked in, which was ok but a little annoying to eat around. The meal itself was very good with tender carrots and potatoes and corn on the cob. The beef was pretty good but a little fatty. I wish it had a little more spices but it definitely reminded me of dinners around the campfire when I was a kid. I had a glass of their sweet tea, which I love. The biscuits that came with the dinner were nice and fluffy. They were served with a side of gravy, butter, and honey. I didn't try the gravy because I am not a fan. It was clear that they were a little understaffed because the waiter wasn't as attentive as they usually are. Other than having a bit of a slow service, everything went well. They have excellent fried chicken. We had the chicken and dumplings and some delicious sides to go with our food. They have a very nice place with a lot of things to look at and you can also shop if you want while you wait. We had a very nice waitress, she had a name tag that said EM on it. The grits were alright, but the main entree was so bad. The biscuits were super dry, chicken fried steak had no seasoning, and the gravy. Y'all, I was so sad. It had no seasoning and the texture was just bad. Like not gravy texture at all. I could've formed it into a shape and it would've held form. Bad. My son didn't even want to eat his grilled cheese. How do you mess up grilled cheese? By not letting it get melty. It was more like toast with slices of American cheese. The location is nice with lots of parking. And the store inside is cool and can find some amazing treats and decor. We intended to go for Mexican but the night went sideways and we were headed to in n out but the line was long, so we decided to try Cracker Barrel. The portions are insane and for your own sake don't look at the calorie counts...yikes. The Nashville hot chicken was indeed spicy which I was surprised by. The skin was so fried that it just felt like a big bite of oil though. Hard to find the actual chicken meat! The honey butter fried chicken was similar. In our group the burger was the best tasting entree. The biscuits were deliciously warm but needed no additional butter, wow. Service was friendly but slow. Driven past many Cracker Barrel. Never tried it. Wife had to fill in at the pharmacy on Rob Drive so thought she would get some food to go. They Have a nice website ordering system. Pretty easy to navigate. They have a pretty good selection. We decided to try quite a few different things. What we ordered: Classic country sampler (meatloaf, chicken and dumplings, fried chicken) for the choice of two sides my wife got coleslaw and mashed potatoes with brown gravy Tuesday special: two pork chops with the choice of two sides (turnip greens, steak fries) Coca-Cola chocolate cake Biscuits and corn muffins included with the dinner Five dollar add-on dinners (meatloaf, and macaroni cheese, southern griddle chicken with mashed potatoes So with the sampler we got to try quite a few different things: chicken and dumplings, meatloaf, fried chicken. Then we got the chicken fried pork. The main thing to take away from this is they do not seem too happy to give enough gravy or sauces . The pork chop dinner had a drizzle of gravy as you could see in the picture. The meatloaf had none, fried chicken I thought came with white gravy, there was none. Even the smoked chicken with mashed potatoes, the mashed potatoes had no gravy. Gravy or sauce is the cheapest thing to make in a restaurant. And can really enhance the food. I've never had mashed potatoes given to me with no gravy.... Even my wife had some gravy on her mashed potatoes and there was not enough. On the bright side, the fried pork chops for thick and juicy and tender. Not quite sure how they could do that because it was not pounded or tenderized. They had a good flavor, but again I needed some more gravy on them. The five dollar take-home dinners are frozen . Just an add-on bonus I guess for the next day. So technically, we got four dinners. I definitely would not call it chicken and dumplings. More like chicken with homemade thick noodles. Nothing even remotely similar to a dumpling. Good flavor. My wife did enjoy the coleslaw. And she said the potatoes taste good. The brown gravy was good (again not enough) the steak fries were mushy. Had a total of five. Not sure if some of the juice from the turnip greens helped to cause this problem. The coleslaw has a separate container, maybe the turnip greens should have their own container so they don't cause everything to be wet? There's a lot of potential here. Some good flavors and good textures. Maybe brown gravy on the mashed potatoes and meatloaf. Add some white gravy on the fried chicken and more gravy on the fried pork. Prices were good, so definitely will try it again. Might just do a sit down dinner, that way we could actually ask for some of the gravy and sauces. But now we know. read more

I'd understand if it was a packed house full of hungry clients but this place was a ghost town and I think I can see why. My server was Jessie B. a three star general or whatever her apron signifies. I didn't get any refills on my iced tea, which is sacrilege for a server. I get it, all the young kids want to be engineers working hard at kissing Elon's tail. But if you're going to waitress you need to be more on it. To top it all off you didn't give me any utensils or napkins with my to-go order. What kind of sick practical joke is that? I had a feeling she isn't cut out for this work when I asked for over medium eggs and I said "fry them good" and she sneered at me "I don't know what that means, so you're getting over medium eggs" You mean to tell me you work at Cracker Barrel and you don't know what eggs with crispy edges are? Maybe you should ask your manager, because I'm sure they would give you the thump your skull is crying out for. I have been to cracker barrels in Arizona, Nevada and California. Today was the first time that I didn't eat all my meal. My son didn't eat anything and my daughter at half. I had scrambled eggs and sausage. The sausage was dried out like a piece of leather. And then the assistant manager had the balls to tell me that it's because we're used to the sausage from California. My son's hash browns were soggy. Almost like they poured a cup of water on it before they sent it out. My daughter's loaded hash browns tasted like they dipped it in sea salt before they brought it out. And my wife's steak was overly cooked. We asked for medium rare and it came out well done. She sent it back and it was medium rare but very chewy. I'm sure they use a very low quality steak at this place. I think it was the assistant manager. She told me that she was going to adjust the bill. Let me be clear. We didn't complain. They came to our table and asked us how our Mill was so we told them. When I got the bill it didn't look like there was any adjustments made. I paid the whole thing but I did not leave a tip. Which bothered me because it wasn't the waitress's fault but I figured they already got me for 62 bucks. I was in Atlanta. Get me for anything else. Stopped by here on our way home from Reno. I was very impressed by the store attached to the restaurant. The store alone was worth the stop to me. The restaurant had plenty of space and bathrooms. I've never had a dining experience as frustrating as this Cracker Barrel visit. Our waitress took a while to take our order, which was fine because we were still deciding. But after finally ordering, she came back 25 minutes later to tell us she "forgot to click submit," but assured us it was in now and brought cinnamon rolls to go as an apology. Those cinnamon rolls ended up being the only thing we got. We sat for another 45 minutes with absolutely no food, while multiple tables around us came in after us, ate full meals, and left. Our waitress was nowhere to be found - we literally couldn't even ask her to switch the order to to-go because she disappeared. We finally had to flag down a manager. The manager checked and came back to tell us we still had about 25 minutes of people ahead of us. We had already been there for an hour and a half at that point - with nothing but empty stomachs and a to-go box of cinnamon rolls. He handed us a ticket to come back another time, but honestly? I doubt we'll use it. We left starving, irritated, and blown away that a place could be run this poorly. Worst restaurant experience, period. Still love the shopping though. read more

Came here last night for a quick bite to eat with my husband and daughter and we walked right in no wait at all. Our waitress Mae I believe is her name was absolutely phenomenal she was quick on top of it and very sweet! I got chicken fried chicken and shared with my little with a side of mac n cheese mashed potatoes & fried apples, I always love getting the fried apples they are delicious. My husband got the herb roasted chicken and said it was absolutely delicious!!! We all three got desserts! Overall everything was good and we love all the decorations inside. read more

Used to love Cracker Barrel but the service has steadily become worse and worse. I had a major complaint about the crummy service and lazy employees my last visit. I got an email asking if my visit was excellent. I replied with the same comments I told the hapless manager on duty. I got a reply with an apology offer of a free dessert (up to $6 value) with the purchase of dinner (dine in only) I wasnt looking for anything free I only wanted to lodge a complaint. But that respose, to me, was almost insulting. Anyway I guess it's Black Bear Diner from now on for me. read more

Update of review from 2 months ago. 5/1/25. My wife wanted to revisit Reno's Cracker Barrel just off the Keystone exit. It was simply a lovely meal. They had completely revamped the menu since we were last there. I selected the dish that tickled my southern longings. Fried chicken and Custard French Toast. OMG, I thought I died and went to heaven it was so good. The chicken had a "crackily crisp coating" covering moist perfectly cooked chicken. So yummy. The service was prompt, accurate and attentive. This is our third or 4th visit to this Cracker Barrel, and I must say we have yet to be disappointed. This last visit on April 10th, 2025 was probably our best visit yet! Our server, Adam, was easily a Server Superstar! Polite, pleasant, efficient and knowledgeable, you couldn't ask for a better person to have as a Team Member in a fast paced demanding environment like a restaurant. He will most definitely go far. The salad was crisp with the crispy ChickenTenders, and the loaded mashed potatoes were tasty as was the Southern Fried Chicken. SO MUCH FOOD! Delicious biscuits and corn bread too.
