After a long drive to San Antonio from Dallas, we decided to stop at the Cracker Barrel for lunch in San Marcos and then look in a few of the shops at the outlet mall. We had a short wait to get a table. Sometimes the menu can be a bit overwhelming. I selected their low carb grilled steak. Notice it didn't say low fat because it was covered in cheese and had tons of egg on it. They bring out the cornbread and biscuits on a big plate. The cornbread was a bit undercooked but still tasty. The salad was good. The service left a lot to be desired but I guess that was because it was crowded. Cracker Barrel is great in a crunch, but not always tasty or service oriented. read more

We come here every time my sister is in town. The shop is cute and good so we can browse around while waiting to be seated. Usually, we come around lunch time and its pretty crowded, but we haven't had to wait too long. We always eat breakfast.... why not? they serve breakfast all day long. Plus, its cheap! Breakfast is good and their portions are good enough to get you full. I haven't tried their lunch or dinner menu but we see other guests getting other foods other than breakfast so I'm sure its just as good. read more

After a long walk at the outlet mall, a delicious hearty meal is needed; however, Cracker Barrel did not do much more than fill my stomach with a well served meal. I ordered, their new oven fried chicken, which is a healthy option, but healthy does not mean a dry chicken breast, either. The breading was tasty, but I needed every last sip of my iced tea to finish off the chicken. On the bright side, Cracker Barrel does serve fantastic cornbread and biscuits, so that did bring a smile to my face. Also, the restaurant was very clean and the service was solid. read more

My coworker and I ate lunch here Saturday and as usual, busy. Had a really nice waitress and enjoyed my house salad that was large and had plenty of goodies in it. My coworker ordered one of the breakfast with sunny side up eggs..the whites were way undercooked and still transparent..I would have sent them back but he swallowed them pretty much whole...I'll be back, but won't order sunny side up eggs!! read more

Horrible! The service was great but who ever was cooking sure doesn't know how to cook eggs or bacon. Bacon raw and scrambled eggs just done on a flat top. Not scrambled, just folded, they were still liquid inside! Told the manager Lonnie and showed him and said it was cold and not cooked. He went back and had them make it over. Came out worse! So Lonnie went back to make it, even though we told him we no longer wanted it. He brought it out and we told him again we don't want it, it ruined our appetite. Apparently Lonnie doesn't listen to his customers. I won't be back. Cracker Barrel has gone down hill with the quality of their food. Seams they don't know how to cook. I'm a Cracker Barrel fan, I'll be the first to say. I think their food is wonderful, and they have a wide variety. I'd even say Cracker Barrel is one of my favorite restaurants. However, after coming across 2 rats out front, I will never return to this one. I do understand the rats are outside, but they are close enough for me to never be back. Since NOV 27 I have been trying to received a $50 GIFT card purchased from my daughter. It was to be my birthday gift 11/28. I NEVER got confirmation of the card. I did, however. received an email from my daughter showing where THE $50 was taken from her credit card. NOW, several weeks later, I have NO card, 2 CSRs cannot find the 19 digit gift card number and there is NO ONE who has the IQ to find the problem....except to charge $50 for NOTHING!!! HMMMMM....my advice, LEARN from my experience!! read more

Love it here. Great wait staff and the food is always great. If you haven't yet try the hash brown casserole it is worth every calorie.

I've eaten here a few times while at school at Texas State and have never had a bad experience. I will stay that I stick to fairly safe options as I would never go to Cracker Barrel for a steak dinner or a fancy salad. Our company had a manager function yesterday in Austin. So on the way we stopped and had breakfast here. I have ate here before for dinner but not for breakfast. For a group of 20 they did wonderful! 2 servers constantly moving and filling glasses and coffee cups. I had the Momma's French Toast which consisted of 2 eggs, choice of sausage or bacon (I chose sausage, very good) and 4 pieces of french toast. Yes, 4 pieces! Very good french toast may I add. And little bottles of syrup. So cute! looked like the bottles you used to get on airlines with liquor in them. The morning was a little cool so they had the fireplace going! That was awesome! The gift shop is def setup for Christmas! Several of us bought Christmas gifts(with gift wrapping I might add) and ornaments for their tree. Great start to our morning! Breakfast for dinner! Friday night date with my family. We were immediately sat and greeted. My children had pancakes which were hot and fresh. I had biscuits and gravy which was to die for and my husband had the country skillet which he said it was okay. Portions were perfect. Well this was our last visit to Cracker Barrel at any location. This one was absolutely horrible food. Ordered the Reuben Platter. The "Reuben" consisted of about a pint of Russian dressing, one thin slice of meat (it certainly wasn't Pastrami or Corned beef) and one slice of cheese. It was so soggily that it could not be picked up. My wife's omelet was much better. We don't think don't think it was made real eggs. If we could give negative stars we would. read more

Horrible experience at this location! Part of my meal came out wrong. Instead of taking the whole meal back they just fixed the part that was wrong. In the mean time the rest of my meal got cold & soggy because I wanted to eat it all of it together at the same time. The manager comes by and asks how things are, I let him know I'm not happy with the meal and he didn't offer any retribution at all. He apparently really just did't care. Then when paying the bill the cashier guy asked how it was, I let him know and he didn't seem to care either. Eat at Cracker Barrel often, but will not anymore. read more

Born and raised here and we love going to eat there on the weekends, and at lunch with my co-workers. Never disappointed, their breakfast is delicious...always fresh, hot and worth your money..our grandkids love eating there as well. During lunch they are always fast since we are limited to about 45 minutes...Chance is by far is a great waiter, very polite, always greets you with a smile and is always on point bringing out whatever we need. It's always busy for breaskfast on the weekends but we can always browse around in their shop why we wait, they always have wonderful stuff to look at and purchase. read more

My family and I decided to take a break from shopping and grab a quick dinner at this location. It was a big mistake!!! We began questioning our order because others who had ordered after us got their food before us. It took about 50 minutes for us to finally get our meals. After questioning the waiter, he notified us that there was a mix up with our order. The manager and waiter were very apologetic. As if that wasn't enough, they wanted to charge us for a salad that was ordered as one of the three sides. I would rather let the NY Giant's kicker kick me in my face with him thinking that it is 4th down 4th quarter and they are down one point at the 50 yard line with 1 second left than to eat at that location again. read more

NEVER AGAIN!!!!! Last week, on my Birthday, I ordered the Sunday Chicken special. The fryer was so hot (should not be over 160 degrees for chicken or breaded items) that the hot grease knocked the breading off of the top of the chicken, leaving my chicken only half-breaded. This restaurant cuts one chicken breast in half and calls it two. This restaurant is dirty, with tables not being promptly bussed, which leaves a foul odor behind. The biscuits were not even browned on either the top or the bottom and were raw in the middle, this kitchen is in a hurry to turn over too many tables. The corn muffins had been sitting about two hours before they got to our table, and were stone cold, as were my husband's fries. My mashed potatoes had raw lumps in them. lumps are okay if they are cooked, but these are RAW! The fries were so old they were concave, and looked as though they had been under the heat lamps all day. In my opinion:This restaurant is VERY POORLY MANAGED, and I believe it only stay open because they have one of the top outlet malls in the world on their back-porch. I won't go here again, even though I live in the area. The food is substandard; the waitstaff are disengaged, as is the manager who spends a lot of time texting on his phone, and it is my opinion the owner should be in another type of business, such as running a gas station, not a food establishment. There are many adults in the San Marcos area looking for jobs, the bimbo wait staff should immediately replaced, as should the cook, and also the OWNER. We sit down; he walks up, takes our drink order and asks if we are ready to order, like he's in a hurry or something. We hadn't even had a chance to open the menu yet, no, we aren't ready. He finally brings us our waters and we still aren't ready, that menu is huge!!! He leaves. We figure out what we want in like the next 5 mins and then wait for him to come back. And wait. And wait. He finally shows back up almost 15mins later and we order. I order the ribeye and ask for it to have some pink, he says medium well and I say, no, a bit more pink then that, make it medium, I also sub out my 3 sides for the salad and baked potato and he asks if I want it loaded, it doesn't say it's an extra price on the menu and he doesn't say it is so I say yes, no chives. He leaves. We get our food in about 10ish mins after ordering and then the complimentary bread (which is the best part of this trip by the way) and I cut into my steak. It was like shoe leather. No pink, tough and tasteless. It's a $15 steak, so I add salt and ketchup and choke it down. We get the ticket and my meal is $16.48, per the menu it should have been $14.99!!! I ask him why and he states that I upgraded my potato and I say, but there isn't anything on the menu about an extra $ up nor did you say anything. He doesn't care, says oh, sorry and walks away. We weren't impressed with him at all and our tip reflects that fact. The young woman that checked us out was very nice and tried to get me to talk to someone, but I just want to leave (just worked 2 jobs that day and was tired) and don't want to have to wait, so we leave. Came in on Easter weekend with a party of 9. Have never had a bad experience at this particular Cracker Barrel. Our party was called, when we were ready to be seated a larger party that came in behind us was rushed through. When we asked what happened we were given the run around by the hostess and were told multiple excuses of the mishap other than them admitting fault. The wait staff was attentive, but the hostess needs to do a better job of scheduling and seating. read more

Don't be in any type of hurry or rush to be seated at this Cracker barrel. We were told 15 to 20 minutes to be seated as a party of 5 and after 40 minutes of waiting and two parties of 5 behind us were seated ahead of us, we left. We've been to other Cracker barrels(Denton, WICHITA Falls, Fort Worth) and have always had positive experiences. We were very disappointed in this one. read more

I eat breakfast every week here at least once. Food is home cooking good. Hashbrown casserole is better than home cooking actually. It's all greasy diner style food, but there's a huge variety to suit any taste. They keep your coffee cup filled, and the staff is great and mighty friendly. At least twice I came in with my wife or dad, sat down and for at least 15 minutes no one even took our drink. Being busy I can understand, but there were only like 3 tables being used at the time. I bought the recomended dishes from my friend which is pancake with blueberry topping & country fried steak.The pancake was fluffy & soft like what he said, but the steak was just OK. Terrible. We LOVE eating Cracker Barrel when we travel. So, since it was right across from our hotel, we knew what was for dinner! Our group of three walked in just after 9, restaurant was almost empty. We stood for 5 minutes before anyone greeted us and took us to our seat. We ordered our meal (all three of us wanted chicken and dumplings. We sat at our table for well over 20 minutes when another employee (presumably the cook) informed us that they were completely out of dumplings. When I asked why they took more than 20 minutes to let us know that, he said that he was just handed the ticket from our waitress. He asked if we wanted something else, but after waiting so long with the waitress not taking care of her job, there was no way I was giving this restaurant my business. Now, it's almost 10, too late to go to another restaurant, so we have to opt for a drive thru. Very disappointed. read more

We were on vacation. This is the ONLY Cracker Barrel that I have ever had a bad experience at. We waited about 12 minutes to be greeted. When Keith (waiter) asked if we'd been waiting long and we said yes, he began to lean over us and yell. The waiter Keith made us feel physically threatened. Then when we asked for a different waiter, Keith stood by the kitchen and pointed and laughed at us until I asked for the manager and told him I refused to be bullied through my meal. The manager kept Keith away from us after that. Two waitresses told us that they'd heard from other customers that Keith could be brutal to customers. The manager never came and checked on us again. In fact we never saw the manager except the 2 times we had to ask for him. They didn't even offer a discount. While shopping in the store, I told 2 more employees what happened and they did not seem surprised. They gave me the District Manager's phone number. The DM was shocked and promised to take action.
