Well, this is an update from a review a few years ago. It is back to what we remember when they first opened. We have been about six times this year and each visit very good. We have learned to get the paper towels ready for the fried shrimp and catfish. We move them off the plate and the paper towels soak up any unwanted grease. Perfect solution to any fried food. We always get either the 15 medium shrimp and an extra two pieces of crispy fried catfish. When we go with others we order the fried seafood by the pound. Always get the coleslaw and potato salad. The fried shrimp and catfish are always cooked perfectly. The potato salad is some of the best in the city. Rating of 4 versus 5 because we they are so very, very slow. Ordered via Uber eats and got the shacktastic platter for one. It was good and the perfect amount of food for me, and I have a fairly decent appetite. I used to live in New Orleans so I know what traditional seafood boils should taste like, and this is it. This isn't the place you get seafood smothered in oily garlicky Asian-Cajun fusion sauce, which is good too, but this is like traditional spicy salty boil goodness. All the seafood seemed very fresh and good. While the crawfish was probably frozen, they did a good job cooking it so it tasted like live boiled crawfish. Mussels were good and large, snow crab was fine as were the shrimp. I do wish they had included some lemon wedges but it was still a good meal that reminded me of my time living in New Orleans. read more

I very much enjoyed my meal here. I had heard about the place, and finally had the occasion to visit. Once for lunch, and then again soon thereafter for dinner. Overall, I am really pleased with the experience. For lunch, I had a shrimp po-boy. It was freshly made and tasty. My only "complaint" is simple: It seems like the plate should have had more food on it for the price point. Otherwise, it was good. The second time, we went and had a steamed seafood platter for two. I have to give these guys some serious credit here. Because we inadvertently showed up with fifteen minutes to go before closing. And they still cheerfully served us. (Even if they gave us a spicy platter when we asked for no-spicy stuff at all.). The seafood was fresh, and it was freshly prepared. And for the first time in my life, I ate a big pile o' crawfish. I've been here several time since my initial review, but until today it had been a while. I doubt I'll ever be back. The cashier was playing a game on her phone with her back turned. I mean c'mon if you're gonna don't that at least look out for customers BUT you really shouldn't be doing that as the cleanliness of the place looks questionable. This place was recommended by a friend and I must say I was very pleased with my food. I will be back. The atmosphere is kind of a family friendly one. It's too big to be called a "hole in the wall" but it's not fancy. It's the type of spot you would go to if you are out and looking for something good that's not fast food. I had the fried jumbo shrimp with Cajun corn on the cob and sweet potato waffle fries. Now I must say I was not impressed with the sweet potato waffle fries- especially considering there's an up-charge for them. I tried some of my friends crawfish that were very good! This was my first visit here so prior to coming I read the reviews. They were mixed between poor service and cold food and poor taste (lack of seasoning) nonetheless I took a chance Hoping the not so good reviews were just off days. After my personal experience I will NEVER come here again. I was duped. This is like the Taco Bell of crab boils. I've tried quite a few different New Orleans themed spots around the Metro area and they were all phenomenal (Juicy crawfish- Norcross/ Juicy crab- Duluth/ The crab spot- Johns Creek) so I'm thinking how could u mess up a crab boil??? ‍ The south is going through a New Orleans renaissance right now with all the new crab boil restaurants popping up in the last couple yrs and they have been on a roll. This place found a way to destroy a crab boil for the same prices as the more popular places. I ordered the "boiled special". Because the only two options were either boiled special or fried special both start at $28 each. So I picked boiled which should come with crawfish, snow crab, shrimp , mussels, clam, corn and red potatoes. She explained we are out of musssels you can pick one of the other items to substitute (anything except the crab). I asked for extra red potatoes and subbed out the clam for more shrimp. My kids had 2 shrimp kids meals (kids meal includes 5 butterfly shrimp with fries $6 each) and side order of mac n cheese poppers $3.50. It took almost 45 mins for her to bring my food out. The boil was NOT SEASONED PROPERLY AND WAS SITTING IN A POOL OF WHAT TASTED LIKE WATERY HOT SAUCE. The shrimp were not cleaned properly and full of green bile. They slit the backs of the shell but made no effort to remove the digestive tract. I called the waiter back immediately. Telling her This food doesn't taste like anything. She says "mild" is just steamed, we don't season it. So essentially It should be described as seasoned or UNSEASONED not HOT OR MILD. And it was still spicy bc of the hot sauce they pour in the bottom of the bowl. She said there's some red season on the table u can use to add your own flavor. (Shown in the picture- cayenne pepper sauce, Louisiana hot sauce, and old bay) I was appalled that she thought that is what makes the flavor better. Where's the lemon garlic butter base?!? She gave me a small container of cocktail sauce for the poop filled shrimp. The crawfish tasted overcooked like it's been boiled multiple times to warm them up and bland as well. I left them in the bowl. They gave me one huge Idaho potato, it was not RED potatoes which are more tender, have thinner skin, and smaller in size which means they soak up the flavors in the boil better. The extra side of potato that I substituted for the items they ran out of wasn't included. The one cluster of snow crab was decent bc I was hungry and had to make the best out of a bad situation. I honestly wanted my money back. The mac n cheese poppers were delicious but I'm sure I can find them in the frozen food section at Kroger and fry them at home. The kids shrimp meals was came out about 10-12 mins after I had gotten my boil (I had to remind the cashier that we didn't receive it) the fries were plain unsalted as well although it states on the menu Cajun seasoned fries. Over $40 later - we left hungry and unsatisfied. There was no manager available to hear my grievances. Clearly this place was just jumping on the band wagon with no actual experience in cooking New Orleans Cuisine. Absolutely mediocre po boys. I googled "best shrimp poboys in Atlanta" and Crawfish Shack came up so I gave them a shot but let me tell you, they aren't even close to the best poboys in Atlanta. I tried the fried shrimp poboy. After a solid 30 minute wait my sandwich finally made its way to my table. It tasted as though it had been sitting out for 5-10 minutes before being brought out. The shrimp were barely lukewarm and while I can tell that they use quality bread, it was not fresh tasting. On a positive note, the shrimp had good flavor and the sauce was delicious. I would have probably given 3 stars if it wasn't for the lack of value here. I paid $10 for the sandwich PLUS another $3.50 for the order of generic you can find them anywhere came out of a bag probably the same ones I had at my high school cafeteria fries. You can find way better poboys loaded with WAY more shrimp and served with far better fries for $5 less. Even though this is a counter service restaurant, service is still important. Ordering was a process of about 20 minutes because the service was a little slow, and it took about 20 minutes to make the food. A friend of mine could not stop raving about the seafood and insisted that we go to Crawfish shack. Being a Baltimore native it's hard for me to judge seafood so I will just explain my experience. The resturant is in the middle of a small shopping center. Upon walking in I saw fresh seafood on ice and was given a friendly welcome. Fortunately when we arrived at 6pm the place was practically empty but the rush flowed in around 630pm. The atmosphere was perfect for eating crabs, Crawfish, and crab legs, so I would not recommend dressing fancy. The dining area was clean and the restroom was very clean so I was comfortable eating there. I wanted to try the seafood combo but I have an intolerance for mussels, and don't like Crawfish so I opted to go off of several reviews and try the lobster Roll MP was $24 so I figured It would be as delicious as all the reviews said. My niece ordered the shrimp Po Boy which was $10 for a whole sandwich. We agreed to split our meals and I'm glad we did. The entire lobster Roll was smaller than 1 half of the Shrimp Po Boy. I was not impressed with the lobster Roll, it was tiny....a tad bit bigger than a small dinner roll filled with lobster meat that lacked flavor, it was ridiculously overpriced, and only came with a bag of chips it was a total fail. The shrimp Po Boy was decent, very large, the fried shrimp were tasty not as flavorful as it could have been but compared to the miniature roll it was outstanding. Their lobster roll is YES. Did that make sense? No! Because it is out of this world! Aside from the hyperbole, their lobster roll is on point. You literally get a fresh whole lobster. So as you would imagine, it is not cheap, but man if you're fixing for a lobster roll, try this! I've tried the Cousins Maine Lobster food truck and for the price it's good enough to satisfy your craving, it might take some time to chew through the lobster chunks, but Crawfish Shack's fresh lobster roll just allows you to inhale that succulent meat. I've now had the pleasure to also try Luke's Lobster's roll and I gotta admit, Crawfish Shack's lobster fared slightly better. The roll is crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. Not too much butter sauce. Sauced just right. Their combo plates and the mountainous Cajun boil are all great offerings. I love the Vietnamese influence because it packs some heat! The fresh seafood and tasty sauces make for some good eatin'. I've had the pleasure to try the fresh oysters, and they are seriously good! Who would've thought shucked oysters would be good in the middle of Georgia, but we were pleasantly surprised. The meat of the oysters were on the larger end of what we usually experience, but they weren't too briney--down to even the juices. I ordered a poboy, that was super dry, IT DOES NOT COME DRESSED and crawfish tails. Get to my car, check my food. Half of my order is wrong after waiting 20 ADDITIONAL minutes, I'm glad I didn't drive home and immediately asked for a refund. I will never come back here again, and please let your floors dry all the way before opening so your customers are not complaining about "squeaking" noises while they are simply walking in your establishment. I really hate to write a bad review of a locally owned, one-off restaurant but the Crawfish Shack earned their bad review today. I made a special trip from Alpharetta down to Chamblee because I had the desire to have good fried crawfish and I thought a place called the Crawfish Shack should have such. When I walked in the front door and saw the disappointing Health Dept. rating score of only an 80, I almost turned around and left. I regret that I didn't follow my first instincts to leave. I placed my order for the fried Crawfish Sampler plate which came with one side item. I selected Onion Rings as my side. The charge was $14.00 for the Crawfish and a $1.75 up charge for Onion Rings over fries or slaw. The Iced Tea I had to drink was $2.50. My bill came to $19.53, including tax, which I feel is a bit high for a self-service restaurant where you order and pay at the front counter and you have to fix your own drinks. This restaurant doesn't have napkins but instead has a roll of brown paper on each table that you tear off a piece to use as a napkin. I hate going to a restaurant and having to use paper towels off a roll, where other people containment the edges of the roll with their hands while they hold the hold to tear off a piece of paper towel. Frankly I don't understand why the Health Dept. allows restaurants to things like this. I timed how long it took to get my food after ordering because I saw a sign on their wall that stated every order was cooked to order. It took 32 minutes to receive my food after paying for it at the counter. 32 minutes is a long time to wait for food that I found out after getting it wasn't prepared fresh but instead was factory pre-made frozen that only had to be deep fried for 3-5 minutes to cook. It was also bad that my Onion Rings arrived cold, not hot. The crawfish tail meat was breaded in a heavy crust breading that I find on frozen shrimp I find at the grocery store. I expected a specialty seafood restaurant to fresh bread and fry the crawfish, not use factory frozen pre-breaded crawfish to just heat and serve. I confirmed with the person at the register that indeed the crawfish was factory breaded and frozen, not restaurant prepared. The Onion Rings were also factory battered and frozen like the beer battered ones you can buy at the grocery store. My almost $20 meal didn't even come with any sort of bread or hush puppies. In my opinion this restaurant is way over priced for what you receive. This was my first and last time eating at the Crawfish Shack. My advice to others is you can get much better fried crawfish at the Popeye's chicken chain when they offer it for a short period each year. I still reek a little bit of seafood, and it's like the sweetest perfume I've ever used. I apologize to anyone who will be seeing me later on this evening. This place is just as good as everyone says, maybe even better. The crawdads, while spicy, were delectable. The blue crab was equally phenomenal... better than a lot of places I ate in Maryland. The hushpuppies were like a symphony of fried goodness in my mouth. All in a little strip shopping center on Buford Highway? Who knew?! This is why I heart Yelp. The real surprise here was the shrimp. I am a bit of a shrimp connoisseur, only eating the little buggers when I'm in the lowcountry and can eat them directly off the boat. I decided to break my rule here, and I am immensely glad in my decision. Best shrimp I've ever had. Seriously. Better than those served in Charleston, Beaufort, and Savannah. I couldn't believe it. These little fried suckers had more flavor than any shrimp I've tasted before. I will crave these for days and days to come. Most importantly, we got 4 blue crabs, ~20 shrimp, 6 hushpuppies, 6 crawdads, and 2 drinks for $22. Good luck beating that anywhere. I dare you to try. Plus they had the friendliest service around. I'm the type of dude that likes to eat spicy seafood noms, until they burn my hands and mouth. I'm the type of dude that wears the lobster bib. I'm the type of dude that would consider slapping a friend's hand if it means getting the last crab leg. And the food served at Crawfish Shack Seafood (CSS) is the type of the eatery that would make me to do all of these things that I listed above. ****** I. FOOD & DRINK This Vietnamese-Creole restaurant has various types of fishes, shrimps, crabs, crawfish, lobster etc... that can either be boiled, steamed, or fried. They have different meal combinations, various foil food containers and plastic bags for large multi-pound orders, po' boys, and more. So, pretty much everything that can be found in the ocean. (Maybe not raw oysters. Not sure.) They have your typical soda options, as well as a sugar cane drink. And, in typical New Orleans fashion, they sell Café Du Monde; it's a coffee that has chicory (gives it a distinct taste). Anyways, things that I've tried: *Crawfish w/ Cajun seasoning and butter: In my humble opinion, this could've used a lot more butter and some garlic. I would've preferred the seasoning to be toned down a bit more, too. The meats of the crawfish were pretty good. It's the best I've had in Atlanta, but I don't think would order it again. *King Crab (same seasoning as above): The crab itself is pretty good, however, I would've preferred more butter and some kind of garlic. I would recommend this over their crawfish, though. *Boiled Shrimps: Pretty tasty. Probably my favorite thing to get boiled. **Catfish Po'boy: Not the best I've had, but it's pretty tasty and will satisfy your craving. Meal Number One (Shrimps with catfish and two sides) **Fried Shrimp: Covered in cornmeal, it's crispy and wonderfully tasty. It also comes with a tangy cocktail sauce. Can be lightly fried or extra crispy (more fried). **Fried Catfish: Yum! Also comes with a nice tartar sauce. **Corn on the Cob: Soaked in seafood juices (I think). This is very tasty. **Hushpuppies: Probably my least favorite side. Really thick. **Fried Mac & Cheese Balls: OMG! Yes. This is amazing. Get this. II. SERVICE The food takes a while to come out, since they don't pre-cook it (which is a good thing), so plan on waiting. People there are really nice, though. Don't come in being an a**hole, because they won't serve you. (At least, according to their sign behind the counter and hi on the wall.) III. ATMOSPHERE/ DÉCOR I really like the place! There are a few tables for two against the wall and several long picnic tables inside. (Outdoor seating is available, too.) I dig the fishing-like décor (nets, lobsters, etc...) as well. They also have two TVs to watch sports or news, and a public sink in the back to wash your hands. Very casual. IV. PRICES -$8 per pound for crawfish -$10-$15 for a meal combo, and various market prices for different types of fishes and crustaceans. Considering that the ATL is not not located on the ocean, I think the food is reasonably priced. V. I read the reviews prior to coming and they are spot on when it comes to the taste and quality of the seafood here, but today my patience was truly tested. THE EXPERIENCE You don't want to be in a hurry for lunch if you come here!!! We arrived at 1:16 pm on a Wednesday, stood in line about 5 minutes (only about 6 people ahead of us), and didn't receive our food until 2:06 pm!!! The only exception was the gumbo, which came out about ten minutes earlier than the rest of the order (1:56). Lunch was not very cheap all things considered. Coke is offered only in cans or 16.9 oz bottle for $1.75, which I thought was unreasonable considering it's size and the fact that you couldn't get a refill. I ordered the Meal #1 - catfish, shrimp, hush puppies and Cajun fries, along with a Coke and 1/2 dozen oysters which came to $22.19 w/tax. My son, who came to have lunch with me, also ordered the #1 plus sweet tea and gumbo for a total of $17.64. THE FOOD *The Catfish (rating = 4.5) was flaky, golden, juicy, well seasoned and just plain GOOD!!! You have a choice of lightly battered with corn flour or crispy battered with corn meal. Worth mentioning is the tartar sauce, which was very tasty and complimented the fish well. Fries were good, but were served luke warm instead of hot. *The fried shrimp (4.5) & fried oysters (5) were very flavorful and fresh. I'm not a huge oyster fan, but I could be if they could always taste this great. Cashier made it a point to tell me they shuck all their oysters, but it was kinda pricy for such a skimpy plate! He voluntarily told me he was a regular and that it doesn't normally take that long to receive your order. So for that reason I'm willing to give them another chance at lunch! The day was strange enough. Pick up my friend from his office, listen to him negotiate legalese on his cell while another lawyer on the other end undoubtedly annoys HIS friend sitting nearby, ultimately arriving at the Chamblee police station to get fingerprinted. Oh, did I mention that said friend had talked me into getting a concealed weapons license and the first step is going to get your prints done? Actually the conversation went more like this: "Yeah, I need to renew my license. Want to come with and then grab lunch?" "Uh, ok." "You can get one too!" "Wait, we're not talking about driver's licenses, are we?" The things you're talked into when you're a Man of Leisure (otherwise known as "going on month 3 of unemployment.") With our prints done and us being near Buford Hwy, I suggested The Crawfish Shack. Most Yelpers have described it adequately. Small, clean, with a large case of sea life on ice dominating the room. There is, at best, seating for a dozen people in there. (When the weather cools, more tables will be added outside, the proprietor assured us.) I ordered a pound of crawfish and some extra hush puppies. My friend ordered a fried tilapia and some boiled shrimp. Both of us were quite pleased. My crawfish (oh, how I keep wanting to type "crawdads") were spicy and delicious. I mean it; if you're one to steer tang from your tongue, you may want to avoid these mudbugs. I was in heaven. Tails in my mouth, tang on my tongue, and I sucked the head too. It was a sexual innuendo trifecta. The proprietor stopped by to see how we were liking his food. Along with the outdoor seating, he told us his plans to serve po boys in the near future. Oh yeah, sign me up. I can't wait to get 12 inches of po boy into my mouth. "This is SERIOUSLY the s---", my wife enthused as she tore into ten jumbo fried shrimp. "This may have been the best shrimp I've had in Georgia." I'd raced home around Plaza Fiesta to get them to her before fried shrimp became steamed shrimp. "So, uh. You'll get me MORE shrimp later, right?" Well, maybe. Their prices are fantastic -- even after adding two Cajun corn cob-ettes as a third side, the total was about 8 bucks. We're trying to spend less on restaurants, so while I won't suggest the Crawfish Shack for fear of inculcating an expensive habit, I'll definitely mention it every time she hints at Red Lobster. Crawfish Shack is a lot cheaper than the big boys. And as far as I can tell from her orgiastic munching, it's a lot fresher and tastier. And now for one final thought from the latest Crawfish Shack addict: "These are GOD'S OWN SHRIMP. Why are you still reading this review? Seventeen stars!" I've been hit with "Yellow Fever." It started out with Tom, my previous nail tech, whose foot massages were so good I was convinced I needed to learn Vietnamese to "spit game." How do you say marry me in Vietnamese? Now I've been bitten again. The Vietnamese/Chinese owner and counter boy at Crawfish Shack are easy on the eyes, provide excellent service, and serve up some mean seafood. Pretty much all the qualities any woman needs. The hubby and I hit up the Crawfish Shack after reading many rave Yelp reviews and snagging a free Restaurant.com gift certificate for the restaurant. At first I'm not gonna lie I thought, "What will Vietnamese people know about hush puppies, catfish, and crawfish?!" Honey when I say the devil is a liar, believe me! He's a mutha "shut yo mouth" lie! In the words of my momma, "That food was on hit!" Our gift certificate required we spend a minimum of $35 to get $25 off of our bill so we ordered quite a bit of food. I ordered the 2 piece catfish & 4 jumbo shrimp meal, with hush puppies and potato salad for the sides. The hubby ordered the tilapia & 4 jumbo shrimp meal, with potato salad and a ear of corn for his sides. That in itself was more than enough, but it didn't add up to the $35 minimum so we ordered 2 sweet teas and 2.75 pounds of crawfish. We had the choice of lightly battered in corn flour or crispy battered in cornmeal for our fish and I, a sucker for a cute face and a smile, got boggled up and ordered my catfish fried in corn flour rather than cornmeal. We also had a choice of boiled, steamed, or fried shrimp, but after finding out the boiled shrimp had a kick to it we both decided on boiled shrimp. The preparation option for the crawfish was similar, boiled or steamed, and being a spicy lover I choice for us the boiled option. Let me just say the word spicy does not describe the fire in the hole sensation you get when you tear into a boiled crawfish. I was literally coughing. It was a beautiful thing. As far as the fish, it was excellent. I prefer my fish fried harder than what I ordered but otherwise it was seasoned, fresh, and cooked to order. Now the hush puppies?! Good lawd, it was heaven in my mouth. I've never had hush puppies so damn good. Usually they are either too hard or dry, but those 3 little balls of heaven were just right. When it comes to the potato salad I literally kept saying, "this is good, oh my goodness, this is made from scratch," over and over. Like seriously I've never had potato salad taste like that in my life. Needless to say I will be back! And the good thing is the owner is a Grady Baby so I don't even have to learn Vietnamese to say "what yo name is?" Score!!!! read more

The three and a half star rating is perfect, that's just what I'd give it. It's located in a Cajun themed strip mall. Before we arrived, I already knew that it was an order at the counter kind of place, but when we first walked in, I immediately thought that the decor and set up were strange. The raw fish is displayed on ice when you first walk in. You can purchase many, if not all, of the options raw. For example, the snow crab legs were $9.99 per pound raw, or $14.99 per pound prepared. There were black and white paper menus stacked on the soda cooler cases. The soda coolers or refrigerators, whatever you call them, somewhat served as a guide for the line that apparently form during their busy times. So look for those menus, before you get to the register. We were there on a Friday around 6, and we didn't experience a line. The tables were occupied though. People seemed to be in a trance, with their gigantic seafood filled silver bowls in front of them, they didn't even look up as we walked past them. The soda is served in 12 ounce bottles, so there "isn't refills" on soda obviously. But they have sweet and unsweetened tea, those you can get free refills of. I appreciated the fact that they offered ice water too. Some places that sell bottled water, won't offer ice water, so be thankful. One odd thing was that the ice was in a cooler and you had to scoop it out. Literally, a cooler, like the ones that you have at home. There was very little ice in the bottom of it and I noticed people were reaching their entire clothed arms down in there scooping the last chips out. The guy who took our order, ended up filling the cooler back up and carrying it back out, but I was turned off by the fact that people had already touched all up on the inside of it. I ordered a pound of the snow crab legs, boiled... which had a Cajun kick to it. There wasn't a meal option, just legs by the pound. I added an order of pickle fries, not really knowing what they were, I figured if it says pickles, I'll like it. Pickles are my favorite food, I could literally eat a half a jar at one sitting, btw. The pickle fries came out first, before the meals. It's a basket of small speared pickles, covered in fried batter. The pickles seemed a bit off, maybe they were sweet pickles. The batter wasn't flavorful, but they were fried evenly. Meaning, that weren't too battered and were fried long enough. The sauce that came with them was odd too, so I sprinkled them with the Cajun rub that was available on the table, in a shaker, along with a few sauces. Nothing went well, or gave the pickles the flavor that I thought was lacking. So, I wasted them. The crab legs were ok. I've had better at Joe's Crab Shack. They gave me a cracking tool and a regular cheap fork. If you're not going offer a peeling fork, at least make sure that your forks stand up and aren't the thinnest, cheapest ones in Georgia. I destroyed the fork within the first two legs. I almost felt guilty, until I remembered that at Joe's, they gave me three peeling forks/crackers, or whatever you call them. The crab meat was strange. It stuck to the sides, not like the easy kind that you can just crack and pull. You really have to use that fork and work at getting the meat out... exhausting. I had this place bookmarked for a while and decided to try it, on a busy Friday evening. Upon entering there was a long wait just to order, this was fine as it gave us a chance to look over the menu and decide what we wanted. 20 plus minutes pass and we finally make it to the counter we order Lobster Roll and Shacktastic Platter for one along with the seafood boudin balls, my bill was $60 bucks in the end. I had no interest in eating there as the floor was dirty and the tables were sticky. I opted to get everything to go so I could eat at home, we waited for another 25 plus minutes and finally they brought our food out. We got home (we live only a short drive away) and the food was lukewarm which I did not understand since everything is made fresh/cooked to order. My lobster roll was good just not worth the money (a piece of white bread rolled over a small lobster tail), it was way too small and dissapointing. The Shacktastic platter was Ok it was mostly crawfish and it was seasoned ok, also it didn't come with any garlic butter, tartar sauce etc... ask for it or you won't get any (it would have been nice to just include it). Not the best I've had at all, it certainly did not live up to the rave reviews here on Yelp in my opinion. One of the most unique places to grab a meal in Atlanta. You just get a ton of crawfish and tackle it like an animal. I do however have a few complaints: 1. Pricey - crawfish is typically cheap. The prices you pay here are simply ridiculous. To get filled up, you need to spend close to $40 a person. Ridiculous. 2. Size - the crawfish are just so tiny here. I've bought crawfish before, they are typically at least twice as big and on many occasions 3-4 times as big. You go through a lot of effort to get to the meat, so having a bigger crawfish is important. 3. Check your receipt, you may have been double charged for some of your items. 4. Oysters were just not that good here. 5. The crawfish are prepared so spicy that it gets overwhelming. I like spicy food, but I want to be able to taste the crawfish too. read more

The Fella and I finally made it to Crawfish Shack last Sunday after a couple of failed attempts - thanks to their silly weeknight hours. But we'd been talking about it ever since, so I was glad we finally made it happen. I ordered the boiled platter and The Fella got the fried one...and boy was there a ton of food (and also a $74 bill, so...)! The line to order was short, but took for-freaking-ever, which I didn't understand. The drinks are by the bottle, so no refills - but that didn't bother me. The Fella, who tends to drink a lot, was smart enough to buy 2 while in line so he didn't have to stand in that 20 minute line a second time. We both thoroughly enjoyed our food and I thought I'd go back until I read the owner's response to Roy's review below. That kinda made my mouth drop open and now I'm not so sure this is a place I want to support. Hey owner - not cool. You can be as pissed as you want, but I'd probably not post it in that manner. Crawfish Shack is tucked into a small unobtrusive strip mall on Buford Highway. sandwiched between some auto body shops and other restaurants. I initially I drove right past it looking for signage, and had to check my GPS and circle back. Ambiance is very casual and laid back. The chalkboard-painted walls are labeled with daily specials, market prices of the fresh seafood offerings, and estimated wait times for your food to be ready. (The sign said 35 minutes when we ordered but I doubt even waited 20 minutes.) There was no wait to order around 5pm on a Sunday afternoon despite a steady steam of people in and out. It looked like there were a decent number of sizable to-go orders. Prices are great for the quality / freshness of the seafood and the portion sizes. We tried the shrimp po boy, which you can order as a half ($7) or a whole ($10). The sandwich doesn't come with a side but portion is so large that if you're thinking of adding one, I'd recommend the half sandwich. The po boy bread is a pretty standard crusty white bread (soft on the inside) and your choice of filling is topped with a spicy remoulade sauce, shredded lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles. The fried shrimp had a nice crispy batter on them. The "Meal 2" ($11 for 10 Shrimp - your choice of Cajun boiled, steamed, or fried - and two sides) was a great deal. I ordered steamed with mac and cheese bites and hush puppies. The meal took a bit longer to come out than the po boy did but I was really pleased with the quality and freshness. The shrimp were absolutely huge, served in shell with a side of cocktail sauce. Four mac and cheese bites came in my order. They're delicious but exactly what they sound like - a spoonful of deep-fried macaroni and cheese. You really can't go wrong with these. (Note - the bites were a $1.75 up charge.) I love anything fried but I don't think I'm alone when I say that I thought the hush puppies were the best thing I tried. The spice mixture in the batter has a little Cajun kick to it but not too much to overpower the sweet cornmeal. Two thumbs up. I'll absolutely be back to try some other offerings. Another One Bites the Dust.......Here's what you need to know........ Prices up Health score down Quality down Possibly a victim of their own success this placed has changed and not in a good way. Portions are the same, prices have gone up considerably and the place still has the community picnic tables. I ordered the Grouper plate, previously priced around $8 - $9 is now $14 ! drinks are $2.50. The broccoli was lukewarm and the corn was nearly cold. The fish was hot and wasn't fishy smelling but the loss of focus on detail and dramatic price increase has moved this place off the favorite list for me. I was really excited to check out Crawfish Shack Seafood for some mud bugs, knowing they were out of season I made the trek up to Duluth anyways. Unfortunately for me they sold out earlier that day, so I'd recommend calling ahead and learn from my mistake. I decided to go with some Cajun fare and wasn't disappointed. The boudin balls were fantastic and so was their steamed shrimp. Because the restaurant is Asian Infused, I decided to try the Korean BBQ Po-Boy they had on special. Man it was awesome and id really recommend ordering it if they still have it when you visit. This place is great and I can't wait to check back in March to eat a metric ton of crawfish. Prices were very reasonable and the staff was really cool. Plenty of parking as it's in a strip mall. We drove past it since theres a bit of construction around their place so just keep an eye out and you won't miss it. read more

Arrived here on Sunday afternoon to a relatively quiet dining room. There was nobody on line and it was my first time here so I politely struck up conversation with the guy behind the register. He recommended the light battered fried catfish or Cajun boiled shrimp. Me being the fatass that I am ordered both plus Cajun crawfish. With three sides of broccoli, slaw, and fries, the total came out to less than $30. We found a table outside and our food was brought to us in about 10 minutes. The food was delicious and everything was a hit. The crawfish was larger than other crawfish boils I had visited and had a very strong Cajun kick to it on the tail end. Afterwards, we were giving wet naps and felt like disgusting human beings for consuming enough fried food to kill a small horse. read more

After reading the reviews on Yelp, I decided to try this place with a coupon on Restaurant.com. My boyfriend and I got the Shack-tastic platter for two and were disappointed when they told us they were out of blue crab, but we couldn't substitute it with snow crab-only shrimp, crawfish, or mussels. Everything is simply thrown in a big tub, which may be a turnoff for those who prefer presentation. The snow crab was great, but I was very disappointed with the crawfish. They seemed anything but fresh. The sweet potato fries were great, though. All in all, I would definitely avoid the crawfish and stick to the snow crab. read more

This place has gone down hill!!!! We have not been here in a year, maybe two, and we sure will not be coming back. We found ourselves on Buford Hwy one evening and decided to have a early dinner. My husband reminded me we liked the food in the past, but ultimately stopped coming because the price was too high for what you got. We both got the meal combo #5: 15 (fried)shrimp 2 sides and 2 hush puppies. We both got two sweet teas but he got fries and corn on the cobb and I got potato salad and cold slaw. When we sat down there were approximately 15 ppl in the dining area but only one table ahead of us waiting on food. It took 20 plus minutes to get our food and during that time we both drank half a glass of sweet tea. While drinking the tea I noticed my stomach started to feel strange. I figured I was just hungry until i saw my husband sticking his fork around in his tea. My husband said his tea had somthing in it... our food came and he stopped trying to fish it out. He figured it was a lemon seed. I ate two shrimp before I noticed over half of shrimp still had a partial mud vein in them... I deveined several, but stopped eating after 5 of them because the fact I was pulling poop off my food combined with the stomach discomfort was enough for me to call it quits. My husband deveined 13 of the 15 shrimp and ate them all. He had 2 glasses of tea. Fast forward to 3.5 hours later... and I am vomiting. He was vomiting an hour after me and always claims to have a stomach of steel. I'm going to guess the tea containers need to be washed better and more frequently, as well as less sugar. I felt sooooooo much better once I got ill. While the shrimp was gross, I don't think it was to blame. Why take the time to butterfly the shrimp, very time consuming, and not do a good job deveining? We've tried to get into this restaurant before but the line stretched out the door. It has a huge reputation in the Atlanta area as the best place for seafood. We took advantage of the scant crowd (everyone out celebrating) and came on July 4. My dining partner chose the full-size oyster Po boy. $15, no sides. There were six heavily coated deep-fried puffs of - something - coated with remoulade sauce on a bed of lettuce. I chose the tilapia and shrimp plate, and added on a few more shrimp. Let's face it, folks - it's hard to screw up shrimp, but they did it with bells on. They were tough and overcooked, and had the consistency of leather - or perhaps a dog chew toy. The tilapia was OK, the fries decent, and the slaw was on par with anything you might find at a KFC. The tea was good. But next time we want fried fish, we'll probably head to Captain D's. We were completely underwhelmed by this overrated place. Also - they advertised that they would stay open till 3 o'clock. At 2:30, they turned up the radio and started turning chairs upside down. They also locked the door as we left. I saw nothing but young people working, and my dining partner wondered if perhaps the owner took the day off and let them run the place. Bad move. Buford Hwy- never disappoints. Good Stuff: The crawfish- of course!- they were excellent. Really spicy, like burning my lips spicy, but delicious. Service was good, fast, and friendly. The Downside: Meal came with hush puppies and corn on the cobb but I was a bit disappointed in the portion size of the sides. The corn on the cobb was itty-bitty and I only got three small hush puppies. Was hoping for more to use to soak up the yummy crawfish juice :( Smells kinda funny- mixture of fishy smell and cleaning supplies. But once we got the food, we really didn't notice it anymore. No patio. They had placed a couple tables outside, so you could sit out there and eat, but its not really a great set up- so in my opinion it's inside only eating. Maybe I should have gotten the name's sake? Went in about 8:30 and was told I could only make a to go order which was fine by me because they closed at 9:00. I ordered the Platter #2 (I believe) which had 2 pieces of catfish, four shrimp, and two sides (somehow I ended up ordering two potatoes red potatoes and regular fries). The wait time was abt 20 mins. My biggest complaint was ringing in at $11.50, I kind of feel I got skimped. The fried catfish was the size of store bought frozen tilapia, the fried shrimp were runts (I nearly missed them in the box), handful of regular fries (the ones where you get choked on first bite because they are so thick), one huge potato (about the size of a baby's first) and two smaller ones (about the size of a gum ball) . My biggest compliment were the runt sized shrimp. Although, small they packed a mighty punch of flavor. Maybe big things really do come in small packaging after all? read more

I must pay homage (however it is spelled). The main reason why I joined Yelp was because of stumbling across the review on Crawfish Shack Seafood. We are like 60 reviews deep now but when I first read up on this place, there couldn't have been more than ten (and that that time, the reviews were on the money)! I had to find a venue to replace the short lived New Orleans connection (god bless that place)!!! If you followed my limited reviews, I stated I would be stingy with 5 stars but this place by default is awarded and is deserving of 5 stars! and here's why... Price: All the good stuff is under $10 ('nuff said). Even if you don't like what you ate, it isn't like you went over $10 Food: Seafood fan - this is a WINNER! Fried catfish is on the $. Grouper is on the $! Tilapia is on the $ The shrimp, the scallops, they are all fresh and reasonably priced. The sleeper - the crawfish. They are comparable to places in the Bayou. Nice size crawfish and very spicy! I've probably came to this place for the crawfish alone at least on 5 seperate occasions (and I reside on the other side of town). Last time I had the crawfish here was championship sunday before Jets/Colts game and the party that had em Destroyed the crawfish worse than the Colts did the jets that day Portion(s) - they give you a good amount of portions for the price, can't finish now, you shall later! I think this place delivers if you are within driving distance. If you reside in the Buford Highway area, you sure are spoiled.
