When I looked a little deeper into their menu, I decided to get their BBQ pork platter not knowing that they did in-house smoked meats. DELICIOUS! I love bbq sauce, but it wasn't necessary. Having finished my meal 10 minutes ago, my smoky bbq breath leaves me wanting more. My sister ordered a short stack of buttermilk pancakes, which she deemed 13/10 stars and "the best I've ever had." My brother-in-law got the mushroom scramble and noted that it was well-balanced. If Crooked Tree Cafe was in our neighborhood, we'd be frequent diners. read more

The food here is really good, the staff is always super friendly (with the exception of the very UNfriendly male host). My husband and I have been here a few times for breakfast, but each time we go there, we get the feeling that we're interrupting a Klan meeting. There is always a group of white men sitting near the door. They'll stare, so my husband will speak, and they won't respond. We're usually seated near the restrooms, where they'll walk back and forth, being sure not to make eye contact. I thought perhaps it was just our perception, so I asked my neighbors who have also visited this restaurant on a separate occasion, and they had the exact same reaction. This restaurant can't control its clientele, but this sure makes for an unpleasant visit for minority customers. Our waitress was really nice, but we didn't understand why we had to wait a while to order our food- there wasn't many people there. Have eaten here several times for breakfast/brunch but today tried lunch. Another delicious meal of burgers, fries, and green beans. We had the Brunch Burger with homemade pimiento cheese, bacon, and over easy egg and the Crooked Tree Burger with pimiento cheese and pulled pork. I loved that they asked if I wanted it extra crispy or not :) our waitress also brought out butter and two types of jelly for the biscuits. Today they had peach (yum!) and pineapple (which sounded usual but was absolutely delicious). You can also buy their jellies to take home with you! I googled this place looking for a spot to have breakfast with my friend and this place popped up. I look for vegetarian options and they have plenty. I ordered the smoothed biscuits and vegetables gravy. The gravy was bland and the biscuit was bland I'm not sure how they can make a bland biscuit ‍ and the vegetables tasted like the meat I smelled in the back cooking. Needless to say I didn't eat the food for fear it was cooked on the same grill as the bacon and sausage. I do enjoy the food here. They have some unique options, particularly the biscuits and chicken gravy. Parking can get pretty tight when they are busy. They also have a number of spots that look like parking but apparently are not, as I've had the staff write a snarky note on my windshield before. The food is good, but waiting 10 minutes on menus, another 10 for drinks, another 10 to place orders...that's setting me up for a 2 hour breakfast when I could have went to Waffle House and been out the door in 45 minutes after waiting 10 minutes for a table. There were plenty of other waitresses that appeared to be on staff, it just seemed they spent more time talking with each other than keeping things moving. Have only been for breakfast a couple of times. The food is good overall, the service is friendly, and the prices are reasonable. Pancakes are very, very well done and the home-made jam is quite good as well. Egg dishes have been a bit more uneven and the brisket was flat-out mediocre. Yelp describes their 3-star as "A-OK." which has a more positive connotation than I would prefer for this restaurant. I give them a 3 but wish the description were simply "Average". There was nothing memorable (either good nor bad) with our experience, 2 adults eating 2 entrees during a normal lunch and it was just..."average". The service was okay, the location and setting were a little below average but fine, our meals that day didn't live up to the hype of the reviews that brought us here but not bad. Didn't wow us but nothing majorly wrong. Just "average". *Maybe a more concrete way of measuring how we felt is that we haven't returned since. There were only 3 other groups there at the time so there was no wait to be seated. The wait staff was friendly and the restaurant was spacious. Food: +Blueberry Granola Pancakes - We got the short stack which was 2 VERY LARGE pancakes that came with syrup and butter. Tbh, the pancakes were quite underwhelming. The granola wasn't crunchy which isn't a huge deal, but the pancakes themselves weren't good. The pancakes had this dense, chewy texture as opposed to light and fluffy. Wouldn't order these. +Veggie Scramble over a potato hash - This was quite delicious! The potato pieces were crispy and the veggies were incorporated into the scrambled eggs well. The dish came with a piece of plain toast which was fine, but I wish there were jams/jelly that came with it. +Coffee - Sadly, not good. Overall, this place was pretty good, especially for the price. I'm on the fence about whether I'd come back again though. We found the Crooked Tree Cafe and visited for the first time today. So glad we did. The service was beyond friendly. The prices were good and the food was PHENOMENAL. I cannot say enough about this little gem. Everything appeared to be homemade (which is something I personally love when selecting a restaurant). The homemade goodies ranged from the sausage (they have pork as well as chicken sausage) down to the biscuits and jellies . For our meal my husband and I both tried the Smoked Brisket Hash. (Caramelized Onions & Peppers over Red Bliss Potato Hash & Topped w/ 2 Eggs, Seasoned w/Crooked Q BBQ Sauce). Probably the best brisket I have ever had. It also came with white toast which was perfectly lightly toasted and had a slight taste of butter which was a surprise because youcould not see that the chef had put butter on it but it definitely had a light butter taste. While I am not really a biscuit person we also each tried a biscuit. We asked for the homemade jellies and a side of gravy so that if we didn't like one we could try the other. O.M.G. Probably also the best biscuit I have ever had. Super soft and unlike most other biscuits these did NOT fall apart! I was really impressed. The sausage gravy was devine but those homemade jellies.....ooohhhh those sweet homemade jellies....lol The had Strawberry which was great and nothing like other strawberry preserves from a jar. The other was even better and it was peach mango. Just a little piece of heaven. The place has a super charming feel and plenty of parking. They have dinner offerings which range from feeding 4-8 and come with meat and sides. We will give that a try another time. We have had them cater breakfast a couple times - I am a fan of crispy bacon, and it has showed up crispy every time! (many times catered bacon is was underdone.) The homemade jams were so very tasty, the biscuits good, pancakes HUGE, potatoes excellent, scrambled eggs are scrambled eggs. Grits were a little runny, but if that's the biggest complaint - that's nothing. We will definitely have them cater us breakfast again. read more
