Its fine and seemed relatively clean. For this visit, we arrived about 9AM early in the work week, the restaurant was at about 20-25% capacity. There were 3 waitstaff on the floor and one showed up shortly after we were seated, this brought the total number of servers to 4. The staff immediately seemed put upon by our presence. I usually try to seem more friendly when I am confronted with folks like this, but they would have none of it. My friendly smiles were met with blank stares. Once we were seated, the drink question was asked of us. But the staffer was multi tasking, and when we responded, it was acknowledged as if we'd rudely interupted them. Further interactions went similarly. Our food arrived on the slow side but in a reasonable amount of time. The waffle was fluffy and crisp, the pancake thick and on the dry, soft, cakey end of the spectrum, (vs thin, buttery and crisp). Fruit was your standard food distributor pre-cut variety of melon, red grapes and pineapple, the same stuff you get at the supermarket. My scrambled eggs were overcooked, dry and rubbery but I have had worse. Bacon was similarly dry, probably reheated, not cooked to order. Italian toast was from a real Italian loaf, thin but decent. Homefries were pretty good. Once the food arrived, no one came by the table again to check on things until well after we'd finished eating. I initially thought there were no refills on the weak coffee until I heard an adjacent table being offered a refill. We were never asked if we needed anything else, or if the food was okay. That said, the food at the Orchard Grill isn't bad, it's just mediocre.. Paired with the bare minimum of unfriendly service, it was just not worth the 40+ dollars for the adult and two kids meals. Waitstaff treat you like a task, not like patrons, not like people seeking a positive experience. At the Orchard Grill you are an obstacle to be oveecome with the very smallest amount of effort you can get away with without seeming overtly hostile. Each of my preceeding visits were similar experiences.

The manager who greeted and seated us was genuinely friendly, setting the tone for a great evening. Our servers were equally wonderful and took the time to answer all of my questions about the gluten-free menu. I was especially excited to learn they have a dedicated gluten-free fryer, which is always a huge plus for those with food sensitivities. We started with a couple of summer spritz cocktails. They were light, refreshing, and perfect for a warm evening. I ordered their take on a Hugo Spritz and really enjoyed it. My boyfriend chose the Limoncello Spritz. It wasn't quite my style, but it was still well made and delicious. For dinner, we both ordered the steak tips with steamed broccoli and mashed potatoes. The steak tips were cooked perfectly, the mashed potatoes were incredibly flavorful, and everything on the plate was delicious. It was one of those meals where you're tempted to lick the plate clean. Between the friendly service, gluten-free accommodations, and excellent food, this was an easy five-star experience. It was really delicious. It was as described - it was sweet with a nice kick. The wonton crisps were tasty and brought some nice texture to the dish. The salad was dressed very well, too. The server was friendly but soft spoken. It was a bit hard to hear her as it was on the louder side in the restaurant. But it was open and airy - no crowded feeling. That's the whole reason, written in a box probably designed for doctor's appointments. Then I walk the two people who raised me out to the car and drive them to a restaurant they've probably eaten at many times before any of us needed permission to go anywhere. They just can't remember the last time they were there. We went to the Greenwood Inn. There are restaurants that spend a lot of money trying to look retro and cool. Greenwood doesn't have to. The place has been feeding travelers and locals in one form or another for nearly 300 years. It was once a stagecoach stop. When the Stonington Railroad came through in 1837, it became a railroad station. Later it was a saloon with a reputation for fights and rowdy crowds. Then Henry and Norma Papa took over in the 1950s and began turning it into the family restaurant Warwick knows now. The Papa family is still running it, three generations later. The room looks like it has lived some of that history. Dark wood. Big exposed beams crossing a high white ceiling. Old-fashioned lanterns hanging between them. Green leather booths. White tablecloths covered with brown paper. A massive stone wall cutting through part of the dining room. TVs over the bar showing golf. Nothing about it feels designed for 2026. Good. Then you open the menu. Calling it large doesn't quite explain it. Steaks and chops. Fried seafood. Italian dishes. Burgers. Sandwiches. Wraps. Homemade chicken soup every day. Senior and children's menus. Sixteen beers on tap. An extensive wine list. Greenwood describes itself as American, Italian and seafood, which sounds less like a concept than three restaurants agreeing to share a kitchen. Mom got a meatball sandwich. Dad got a BLT with bacon crisp enough that you could hear it break. I got the chicken parm sandwich. And because I help run RI: The Pizza State, I ordered a pizza. "Research." At least that's what I told my parents, anyway. Half cheese. Half pepperoni. It arrived on one of those raised metal stands, looking slightly ridiculous in the middle of a table already covered with sandwiches and fries. Greenwood Inn has almost every excuse imaginable to make mediocre pizza. Pizza isn't the identity of this place. It isn't even close. With a menu this big, they could put some sauce and cheese on perfectly serviceable dough, bake it until everything melted and call it done. Instead, somebody back there knows how to make pizza. The crust is hand tossed. It rises unevenly around the perimeter, with bubbles and little folds where somebody actually handled the dough. The rim is light inside and browned outside, with enough substance that nobody is going to mistake this for a New York slice. The sauce has body and plenty of garlic. The cheese melts into it instead of sitting in a heavy layer on top. The pepperoni curls into cups, darkens at the edges and brings a little spice. Then I turned a slice over. That was the moment. Look at that bottom. Deep brown almost from edge to edge. Darker in spots. A dusting of flour or semolina still hanging on. No pale center. No soft patch where the oven never quite got there. They pushed the bake. And they nailed it. The bottom had real crunch while the dough above it stayed chewy. This isn't some pizza obsessive's shop with a special oven and a seventy-two-hour dough program printed on the menu. It's the Greenwood Inn. Pizza could easily be the twentieth thing this kitchen does reasonably well. Instead, it's quite good. Maybe that's what impressed me most. Nobody needed this pizza to be this good. The restaurant has been around for generations. The dining room was busy. My parents were quite happy with their sandwiches. Pizza is one small part of a menu that barely seems to end. But somebody in that kitchen looked at that crust and knew it wasn't ready yet. Somebody cared about the bottom. They didn't have to. They did anyway. Eventually the research ended, which is another way of saying I ate more pizza than anyone who had already finished a chicken parm sandwich had any business eating. Then I drove my parents back. For most of my life, they were the people taking me places to eat. Now I get to take them. I don't know how many more lunches like this we'll get. None of us knows those things while they're happening. So I took the pictures. I'm glad the pizza was good. But that's not why I'll remember it.

I was skeptical, but it was tasty and definitely lobster. I did eat the whole thing. I was, however, missing the chunks. Cole slaw was really good, and the fries were fresh, hot and crisp. My sandwich looked nothing at all like the picture showed on FB. Other than that, I would now question what does the lobster salad look like before ordering this again.

We were so full but had a few bites of the fish tacos and pasta - the fish was cooked to perfection and the aioli it came with topped it perfectly. I can't forget to mention the dessert, a great selection from the Sysco Bakery. I've been for lunch and dinner and the service is fantastic. Every waitress is friendly, attentive and doesn't rush you out. Don't be fooled by the ratings. I'm very picky and if you want great service and consistent food quality, this is the place!
