I called Cruiser Tech following a poor experience at another Land Cruiser specific shop in LA. My 94 80-Series started making a pretty substantial knock after a 1500+ mile trip from Southern California to Oregon. I called Cesar with a list of questions and he answered them promptly. After being sent a video, he told me that he suspected that he suspected a rod bearing was shot and that they could either replace the rod bearings from below (and explained the longevity, but understood from a cost standpoint that it might be necessary) or, what he recommended, which was a full rebuild. My car was has low mileage, so I decided to have them rebuild it. I spent a fair amount of time talking to the techs there who clearly live and breathe these things. They worked quickly and Cesar sent me updates/photos throughout the process. They even went so far as to sending me home with one of the shop's cruisers when I had brought the car back to address a check engine light that came on (bad o2 sensor). My only gripe is that their invoices are not all that detailed/precise, so if you're a nut-and-bolt detailed bookkeeper like me, know that going in. Overall I definitely recommend these guys. Their shop is constantly full of high-dollar projects and they're great people to geek about Cruisers with.

Cesar and team are hands down the best 4x4 mechanics in Orange County. I would even say they are the best Land Cruiser shop in all of Southern California. Over the past several years, Cruiser Tech has been my go to shop for everything. Not only is the service quick, but the pricing is fair and the communication is top notch. There are other good shops in Southern California, but none of them have the breadth of expertise and service options that Cruiser Tech provides. For those wondering, Cruiser Tech has done the following on my Land Cruiser and 1st generation Montero: - Transmission rebuild - Turbo install - Engine refresh + new crank / main / rod bearings - Custom bar work - New cooling system (radiator, hoses, thermostat, etc..) - Knuckle rebuild - Suspension installation - Sensor wiring and installation

When I first met Cesar I was expecting a burly mechanic in a blue button down shirt with navy khakis and a sweaty brow. Instead Cesar Calzadilla is all business, and his award-winning builds are quickly gaining value. In 2017 I brought my first vehicle, a 4Runner that I wanted lifted, with grilles, lights and running boards and the budget came in under the original quoted price of $8500 at less than $7k. I attached a pic of the finished project 4-Runner. Then in 2019, I bought a 40 Series FJ and Cesar, was willing to come out to the sellers location and offered a free check up and opinion on price. Surprisngly Cesar guessed the exact sale price despite it not being listed online yet. That build only took approximately 4 months and included restoration of every major body panel, something that most shops including the shop right next door to his always outsource which can lead to bigger problems when things are not aligned or welded correctly. My point is that Cesar takes responsibility for his shops' work and Ive experienced the nightmare of a custom shop passing the buck on shoddy work in the past and thats not a problem at Cruiser-Tech. Finally Cesar is active in the Landcruiser community and has taken me with him to shows and meets and stands by his work. Five Stars

We've been through so many shops in the process of our restoration. Many mechanics think they can handle it but just don't have the knowledge to work on these vehicles. What a relief when we found Cruiser Tech! Incredibly knowledgeable & thorough. The team works super fast. Prices are much more reasonable than you would expect for a specialty shop. We've referred a few friends who are equally satisfied.

Cesar and his entire team are amazing. Knowledgable, professional, proficient, detailed and friendly shop. I won't take my fj80 to any other shop. I would recomend taking your 4x4 to Cruiser Tech.

Cesar has done a phenomenal job with my 1988 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ62. I took it in to TLC 4x4 in Chatsworth to have it fully inspected, and brought the inspection report to Cesar. He worked his magic, and made my Land Cruiser my daily driver. It runs great, doesn't leak at all and I love the way it rides now. It is nice to know I can confidently take my LC to him if I ever need.

Working in automotive service for a long time now, you get to learn that knowing about cars is not exclusive to male or female these days, but for many working in the business, you often encounter that the employees are just working - they don't know anything or take an passion or interest in cars and how they work. So I have dealt with both males and females who just don't know anything, and it's rather disappointing. Everyday customer are relying on their expertise. Kennia is amazing. She is thorough, detailed, and goes out of her way to help and find other solutions, proactive, when me, a little shop - is in need of something. She is very knowledgeable. It doesn't take a lot for someone to take the extra step - and it shows. She doesn't have to, but she does anyway. Too many times, these days, we all become satisfied with doing the bare minimum, and don't think about the business or where our heart is it with doing the right thing and the best job we can. I pray she receives the recognition she deserves, because she makes it a pleasure to work with - you can trust what she does and recommends. Great job!

Throughout this situation, I tried to remain professional and respectful and expressed my willingness to resolve everything amicably. Yet, after paying nearly $4,000 for a re-gear service, I discovered a massive gear oil leak covering my driveway the very next morning due to an improperly secured axle. This left my driveway stained and reeking of gear oil--with professional cleaning estimates ranging from $400 to $600--and I spent the entire weekend in anxiety, questioning whether my truck was even safe to drive, and eventually having to return it on Monday, which disrupted my business. During this process, I was communicating with my assigned service advisor, but responses were often delayed, unclear, or evasive; messages went unanswered, questions were redirected, and clear answers were difficult to obtain. When I brought the truck back, it was described as "just a loose axle" and claimed fixed, yet no documentation was provided proving that the differential or internal gears were inspected after I had driven it for an hour while leaking. Their claim that "there is no problem" or "everything is fine" is something no reasonable person could trust. With re-gear work, any mistake or improper setup often only becomes apparent after several thousand miles of driving. This is why a formal guarantee is not just a request, but a necessity. When I requested a formal written warranty, they only gave me a $0 invoice with no actual warranty terms or duration. For days, I calmly requested two very reasonable things: a formal written warranty and a fair resolution for the driveway damage. I never demanded compensation for emotional distress or lost business time; I simply asked for accountability. After experiencing this, I looked through other reviews and realized that my experience was not an isolated incident. I strongly urge everyone to READ THE 1-STAR REVIEWS FIRST before coming here. You will see a chilling and habitual pattern: dodging responsibility, being 'afraid of standing behind their work,' and sneakily adding extra charges--then claiming they are unavoidable. In fact, I later realized the overcharge I experienced was just a small fraction compared to what others have reported. You will also notice that the owner's responses to negative reviews are always the same--robotic, defensive, and dismissive. They publicly ask customers to 'contact us' to give the appearance of being helpful, but it is nothing more than a deceptive marketing tactic. If they truly intended to resolve these issues, my driveway wouldn't still be stained, and I wouldn't be left with a useless $0 invoice instead of a real warranty. The fact that these 1-star reviews remain unchanged proves that their 'invitation to talk' is a sham and nothing ever gets resolved. They have a template for excuses but no manual for accountability. I am sharing my experience and my filing with the Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) so that other victims know there is a formal way to seek accountability. After seeing so many similar complaints, I strongly encourage anyone who has had similar experiences with their safety, property damage, or deceptive billing to file a formal complaint with the BAR as well. As a business owner for over 20 years, I understand mistakes happen, but I cannot accept a refusal to take responsibility. I am now filing a formal complaint with the Bureau of Automotive Repair and initiating a credit card dispute. A strong online presence means nothing if a company fails to protect its customers' safety and property. [UPDATE: Response to the Owner's Reply] The owner's response below is exactly what I warned about: a robotic, defensive excuse that shifts the blame. They claim a 'failed C-clip' on an aftermarket part, but as any professional knows, this is a clear sign of improper installation, not a part failure. They also claim they 'verified' no internal damage, yet they provided zero technical proof or a detailed inspection report after I drove with no oil for an hour. Mentioning a '90-day warranty' now is laughable--if that were true, why did they refuse to provide a formal written warranty when I asked for it repeatedly for days? Their response is just another marketing tactic to look responsible in public while remaining unaccountable in private. My filing with the BAR and the credit card dispute will proceed as planned.

Well turns out my car isn't that easy to pull the battery out of but he remained friendly and patient and helped me get the battery replaced. With most of the smaller auto parts stores like this one you go there because it is the closest one to your place. I go to this Kragen because it is close. For the most basic needs you'll be ok. Outside of that you might have better luck winning the lottery than you would getting knowledgeable help. It's not even that the people that work there don't know anything about cars, its that they know just enough to look up a part and tell you the price. However I don't go in to places like this expecting a lot. This is more of a "you wont be surprised" review than anything else. My only beef with this place aside from being entirely underwhelming is that most of the staff can't seem to be bothered when you need help. Come in Lo-riding your expectations and possibly leave listening to "You cant always get what you want" by the Rolling Stones, because, really, you can't always get what you want but if you drive here sometime you might, get what you need.
