The restaurant is decorated very modern. It's very clean and spacious inside. Seems they specialized in brunch but they also offer a wide variety of dinner entrees options. We ordered the buttermilk fried chicken, chicken Alfredo pasta, bbq chicken pizza and buffalo chicken pizza on gluten free crust ($2 extra). The food was average, way too much bbq sauce on the bbq chicken pizza. I think it's because they don't put on many toppings and tried to disguise that by loading on a ton of sauce. I showed my server my Yelp check in for a free soda but was told they do not accept any coupons or discounts. I'm not sure what happened but towards the end of our meal when I went to the restroom to wash my hands, my husband told me they "felt bad" and gave us a free soda. In addition, they were dry and dense, not fluffy or light, and the amount of sausage gravy was not adequate to clean up the biscuits. The country potatoes on the side were good, creamy and flavorful. The coffee was also good. Would like to try the savory/sweet side of the menu next time, perhaps the fried chicken and waffles. All in all, good spot. After a long day at Comic-Con, we found this restaurant near our hotel. We arrived around 5 PM and were seated promptly with no wait. I worked till the wee hours of the morning and then had to get up early to run errands in the Fashion Valley area. Still groggy, I passed Crust Kitchen, which I have always wanted to try. Walking in, Vera, the waitress greeted me with a hearty hello helping me to wake up a little. She had a big smile and looked me in the eyes. She continued to be consistent with all the guests that entered. She even hugged a few of them. You can tell she really likes being at Crust and she makes sure everyone is well taken care of. Our first day in San Diego for my cousins wedding we had to eat lunch. This Crust Kitchen place (we thought was pizza) was right next to our hotel. She had GREAT recommendations and yet even explained how I would probably not like something based in my tastes. The Mexican omelet was bursting with flavor! The salsa, jalapeños, lots of cheese, and don't even get me started on the flavor of the fresh coffee... It was to die for! I've had lots of coffees in my lifetime but their house black coffee is hands down the best! From piping hot flavors, to even when it was room temperature. We were staying at a nearby inn and wanted to order some breakfast before Sea World. I called in and Alex answered the phone. He was super friendly and personable.
