Just loved to the area and I am on a challenge to try a new restaurant a week. So Crust was up. I had the rustico Long Island special and added prosciutto and had a limoncello spritz. Both were fantastic well scratch that. The drink is really sweet so I added a touch more Prosecco and it turned out perfect. I would definitely come back. Wish the music wasn't as loud as it was. We were here for dinner early on a Thursday evening. There were very few customers. There seem to be enough servers but the service was beyond terrible. After sitting for an extended period of time a young man rushed over to our table and asked if we had been helped. We said "not yet". He took our order. I had a problem with the iced tea I ordered and was trying to get his attention and he was busy running around the restaurant and never even looked our way. Finally, the couple next to us got his attention for us. The chopped salad was good. We are NYers and the pizza tasted nothing like NY Pizza. It was bland, absolutely no flavor at all. You can tell they do not use quality cheese and the sauce was practically non-existent. I would say it is probably the worst pizza we have had in Arizona. To top off the evening the check included the iced tea that I returned and I had to ask the server to remove it. Terrible service and terrible pizza. We will not be going back. read more

Crust is my new favorite pizza place. The ambience is great and the food tastes amazing. It can get really busy on the weekends, so I would recommend getting their early to beat the rush. It can also get really loud in there so if you are looking for somewhere more quiet, it might be best to go on a weekday. I always order the Long Island Special pizza. It has ricotta, mozzerella, pepper, and honey. I think it would also taste great with some prosciutto on it. I have also tried the Mediterranean Farm Salad. It is fantastic! The salads are portioned for 2-3 people, so they are great for sharing or a meal in itself. Ingredients taste fresh and food comes out consistent. read more

The GC given by the manager to make up for the bad meal turned out to be invalid and deactivated due to an error in their POS system. The new manager Timothy made it right and asked to try the Gilbert location again as they have made measurable changes. While we've been proponents of the chandler location for food and service for over 5 years, we'll give the Gilbert one another try. I hope with good management, the staff really ups their game and doesn't misuse their management stepping up. Appreciate Timothy showing good customer service and going above to make the past experience right. read more

The fact that this place has a 4.2 star review is shocking to me. I love Italian food so obviously I was so excited that we had another option for Italian good around my neighborhood. But listen, I have not been this disappointed in a while! The food had zero flavor, no seasoning, not even salt! The pasta was overcooked and sticking together, the red sauce tasted like canned tomato sauce without an ounce of seasoning. There is a serious need to evaluate the recipes in this establishment. However, I would like to say, the service was amazing. The waiters and waitresses were very kind and responsive. I normally don't right reviews but I had to say something. Yumm! This place has some of the best appetizers! The garlic knots are to die for! Giant dough balls with giant pieces of garlic and butter on them. The spicy calamari amazing! Not to spicy and very enjoyable with a charred lemon to really add to it. The meatballs are huge and plenty to share!! The pizza is also good but the leftovers get soggy and are not the same. First time ever being here after 1 year and a half. Just got to go, but wow Cooley Station is super cute! Caitlinn who took my order via phone was very friendly and accommodating. Thursday afternoon about 3PM. Tried to order ahead online but the payment part would not load. So just went there and ordered in person. The music was horrendous, it sounded like I was at Olive Garden (Sinatra, just really old and cheesy music, Olive Garden music). Not a comparable you want to make if you are Crust. Music at Crust should be much more upbeat and current. Service was fine, it just lacked energy. Bartender looked sad. I got the Pizza to go and it was MEH, very very average, borderline soggy. Seems like Crust has stopped trying and is content to be Olive Garden. read more

Their service needs improvement. My husband and I tried this place 2 times but the service is ridiculous the first time our waiter had zero personality and took forever to come by. Luckily his wife worked there and saved the day . The next time we sat at the bar and the same thing took forever to be given a glass of water then we ordered food and asked for additional sauces finally the second time they brought them . Ok, delightfully surprised! Definitely coming back. Here's some highlights: Atmosphere: B Still pretty calm, not packed at all in a Sunday night. Good atmosphere, modern mixed with Italian pizza kitchen. Super clean inside. Could do away with the high tops, to create more seating for date nights. Food: A Ok, this was actually a delightful surprise. We split the Chicken Caesar Salad (fairly straight forward but still very good) and the Long Island Special Pizza (This is a must try! Totally unique and absolutely delicious. Light honey and ricotta that melts in your mouth. It's more of a light sweet than savory, so factor that in before you plan dessert. This could double as filling the dessert craving. Definitely recommend! But I wouldn't call it a pizza, if you're looking for a transitional pizza. We finished with the warm butter cake. Very tasty, just very sweet. We couldn't finish it, but good enough to share with 4 people. Price: B Very reasonable. Ended up being $50 for everything shown (salad, pizza, dessert and a drink). Service: C+ Gotta say, wasn't super impressed with the service. Friendly, but a little slow. No one seem to be helping on refills. Had to wait quite a long time for a server. We sat by the kitchen and saw some food sitting out ready to be taken to table, but no one taking it out, despite a bunch of workers standing around. The ambiance and service at Crust is top notch. They had great music selections and a well decorated dining area and bar. The service was spot on and very attentive. The food was good, but not anything special. We tried several things on the menu, my favorites being the Burrata appetizer and the Angel Hair Pomodoro. We arrived at 7:21pm for drinks and dessert. We sat at the bar thinking we wouldn't be long. Aside from the bar having plenty of available seats, the place was pretty busy. There were 2 people manning the bar, but it took a while for them to come over to greet us and give us a menu. I ordered a "Sorry, not Sorry," which came out quickly and tasted good. It had a boozy strawberry Kool-aid taste to it, which I find fantastic. Although we were only there for drinks and dessert, the spicy garlic knots caught our eye, and we ordered it. It took a while for it to come out, and when they finally did, it upheld the spicy label to the fullest. The garlic knots themselves had a great crust and soft inside. The spicy sausage that they curl into one side of the bread really completed the dish. My only complaint would be, it was soooo oily. Once we finished, we waited again. Mouths burning and empty water glasses. Empty "Sorry, not Sorry." We placed our empty plate and empty cups where they were visible, but still nothing. When the dishes were finally taken, I wasn't offered another drink, which I did want. But instead of feeling like a bother, we just ordered our desserts... And began to wait again. Our desserts came out, and we had to scarf them down as it was now 8:10pm. I'm sure the dessert would've been much more enjoyable had we been able to breathe between bites. I will say that the tiramisu my husband got was gigantically portioned, which, again, had we not had to scarf them down. would've been lovely. My warm butter cake was good, too... but again, time. We waited for our check, and when my husband started getting antsy, he stood up. Even then, it took time for them to hand us the check. We paid and left. 1 drink, 1 appetizer, and 2 desserts took 1 hour and 5 minutes. I guess it's not the place to be for drinks and dessert unless you have time to spare, which normally we do, but tonight, we really just wanted a nice place with nice options. I guess you would say- have time, so you're really not sorry. Hahaha. read more

First time here, very underwhelming. Upon walking in you're hot with more of a gastro pub then Italian restaurant. Nothing wrong with that. Service was great so no complaints there. We started with the meat and cheese board. It was ok but more cheese could have been on it. Three slices of mozzarella and a couple of pieces of Parmesan. The wife got the bruschetta, artichoke, fig and mushroom. I liked the artichoke the wife preferred the fig and we both thought the mushroom packed flavor. I got the spicy rigatoni and sausage. Loved the spice, the sausage was really good but just the pasta and sauce by itself was lacking in flavor. The food was ok and if we were passing by and in the mood for Italian we might stop in but there was really nothing that made us want to go back. read more

The only reason for a 3 star rating was the service. We walked in for happy hour, sat down at the bar. There was no greeting, no acknowledgment that we had even entered. When the bartender finally noticed he slammed the menus down in front of us, rudely. I enjoyed the cocktail I ordered and the fried cheese with marinara was delicious. We also ordered the calamari. It was good but the sauce was really just okay. The calamari tasted better with the marinara from the cheese appetizer. The plaza location is really cute, what a nice patio. read more

Meet the Business Owner: Michael M.

Michael spent his childhood learning and perfecting his family's Italian recipes until it was time to join the family business. Francesca's, the family's pizzeria on Long Island, is where Michael's father created Pizza Rustica in celebration of the Pizzetta from back home. The Pizza Rustica stands as the cornerstone of the menu for Crust Simply Italian when the first restaurant opened in 2007. The combination of growing up and learning the Italian culinary traditions, making mealtime family time, and working tirelessly in his family's pizzeria have all culminated into the inspiration to create Crust Simply Italian. A neighborhood gathering place where his family could share the culinary traditions of Italy, his family, Long Island, and his own passion for cooking and serving others. The service was great and prompt despite our large group. They were even able to split the checks up for us. I went to the other side of the restaurant where they have gelato and other desserts. I got a couple of cannolis and they were delicious! I didn't try the gelato but they looked really good, I'll definitely try it next time!

They aren't shake off the bone tender but I liked the gentle chew they provide. I was about ready to write the place off. But then Aubrey, our server, came through and saved the day. She noticed that I wasn't really feeling my first dish and recommended her favorite dish on the menu. And let me tell you, it was amazing. Like, seriously one of the best things I've eaten in a while. And Aubrey's attitude was just so pleasant and welcoming, it really turned the whole experience around. After being seated by the hostess and given a menu, I waited for a long time for someone to take my drink order. Despite my patience, no one came. To make matters worse, two families were seated after me, and their orders were taken before mine. It felt as though my presence was completely ignored, and after a considerable wait, I decided to leave. The pizza was reheated and "little Caesar's" quality. The salad looks sad hell, and the ranch was sooo watered down. We spent $70 for lunch and we would love to have enjoyed any part of this lunch. The food came out super slow, I ordered empanadas to start, the waitress said they burned the first order (I appreciated that didn't just serve me overdone empanadas lol) once they finally arrived they were just unfortunately bland, and just kind of lacked authenticity. When she finally brought out my main dish, she even apologized for the wait and said "I had to go yell at them". For a main entree I ordered the French dip with onion rings, another reviewer mentioned they were the best they had had. The meat was kind of tough and dry (which is odd for a French Dip, and everything just lacked flavor. Even the au jus really had no kind of salt or much flavor to it. I really hoped after seeing how everyone else rated this place that I had found that little hole in the wall spot putting out killer food that we all long for, sadly this wasn't it.

My son had ordered food from here as takeout last year. The food taste was interesting, though, I really like the cheese dip for the pretzel bites. The bites were pretty big. Lots of tables at this location, a bit warm. But our party of 14 was easily accommodated. Our daughter chose this place and it was quite loud. My husband and I are quiet people, so if we were to choose again, probably not here because of the loudness and all the TVs all over the place. But for those who like it loud, TVs and do not mind the prices on the menu, have at it. I don't remember our server's name. If she told us, I couldn't hear what she said. She was alright. Honestly, I had a hard time hearing even my son who sat next to me, and hearing my sister who sat one seat over in front of me, I couldn't hear what she was saying. Loudness is an issue for me and I do not have hearing issues. Our bill with tip came to over $700+. That was the most expensive lunch we've ever spent for our party of 14. Typically we're in the $400-500 range. But it was a special occasion. My husband and son got the 36 hr ribs. My husband really loved them. My son said it was okay. I didn't ask my brother and BIL who also got the same dish. I know my BIL was unhappy that he didn't get the side he requested and when they gave it to him (asparagus, I think), it was cold and he wasn't pleased about this. I got the hub burger and it was okay. There was a lot on the burger, but the patty itself, didn't have that much flavor. Some of the "Starters" or appetizers things were salted too much, but the burger did not taste like it had any salt. I had eaten too many starters so when my food came, I wasn't very hungry and took most of it home and ate for dinner another night. My husband and son do not like coleslaw and I ate theirs. THIS I really liked and tasted much better than KFC. I loved the sweetness and that the cabbage was shredded bigger than KFC. The pretzel bites were good. We got wings, and they were so-so. The roasted brussel sprouts were too salty. The deviled eggs were okay, but pricey for 2.5 eggs, which I do pay at Trader Joe's for organic free range pasturized eggs I could've gotten over 2 dozens. But, yes, I pay for the service and ambiance. I really thought there would be more than 5 halves for the deviled eggs. We got the nachos and they were okay. The melted cheese sauce was the best part. My mom got the fish and chips and she seemed to pick at it. She didn't want to take home, so it must not have been that good because she almost always takes a doggy bag home. My sister had the salmon and it was in a huge bowl and didn't look to be that much food. It was pricey. One of my SILs got something I didn't recognize and she said it was okay. No one I could tell was over the moon with the taste of the food and I heard the word "interesting" quite a bit. It's not that it tasted bad, but it didn't really taste good good. You know what I mean? I did bring a special order cake I got at Nothing Bundt Cakes in Gilbert. I asked Culinary Dropout if we could borrow a cake cutter. They didn't have one. Weird. This was a Red Velvet cake and this was absolutely divine. It was moist. The frosting was some sort of yummy cream cheese frosting. The cake was perfectly sized for our party of 14. The cake was the best part of our meal and it didn't come from Culinary Dropout. I would pay this much for a meal at Roy's for lunch for this sized party, but alas, all the Roy's in the valley are closed down. So sad. I'm not saying this place is bad or the food tastes bad. It's okay and pricey. If the food was great or amazing, we don't mind pricey. We have paid over $1K for meals for our big party, and happily do so when the food is equivalent to the price.
