Crust is officially my go-to for several things: 1. Pizza -- their pizzas taste amazing, the dough has a great texture, and it's huge. This can definitely be shared among friends. 2. Pasta -- I did a takeout of their pasta dishes, and I thoroughly enjoyed them. Grandma's Pasta and Tortellini alla Panna was good as a takeout, I can't wait to taste it fresh from the Crust kitchen. 3. Pizza Dough -- Crust has some solid pizza dough, so whenever we want to have some fun for dinner, we buy the dough and make our own pizza at home. The dough makes all the difference! The restaurant can get a little loud, but it's a popular spot for hanging out at a bar so it's understandable. Creates a good atmosphere in my opinion. The only downside is sometimes the wait, but if you don't have kids, I think it's worth a short wait. read more

We tried Crust Simply Italian out tonight, our first time at this restaurant. We weren't all that hungry and decided to go with a couple appetizers. We had the calamari $14.50 and a meat & cheese board $16.00, both of which were over priced and the Calamari was spotty in it's cook as some parts were over cooked while others had turned to a rubbery texture. The meat and cheese board would've been more appropriately priced at $11.00 given the amount of each item on the board definitely not a board for more than two people. The ambiance was nice and there were many dinners which initially gave me hope for great experience. We had a couple mixed drinks that were very well done. The servers checked on us multiple times and were very courteous. We will return sometime to try a pizza which looked very tasty. The overall experience was nice. read more

Looking for a new restaurant to try out, how about 'Crust - Simply Italian' in Gilbert, AZ, their newest location. Amazing food, super friendly and knowledgeable staff, especially Allison, very clean establishment. This was our first visit to a place that has just a few discreet monitors over the bar area, no overload of TVs. The restaurant area is spread around the outside walls, great light in the whole place. We tried to eat four dishes, ALL were great, but we were unable to finish them with just two people, the portions are very generous. We had a very authentic Rustica New York, my hometown, taste and consistency were right on. Also a great Meat Lasagna and Tortellini Alla Panna. But the most amazing item was the Spicy Garlic Knots, besides being huge, they had a very tasty filling, with just the right spicy to them. I highly recommend them! I ran into the chef, Isreal, their food preparation director, there to set this location up right. I was so impressed by quality, variety and presentation, that I gave him my feedback, only to find out that the owners are indeed from the East Coast and Italy. Food was just ok. We ordered calamari to start which was cooked well and tasted fresh and flavorful. My wife and I both had the same pasta dish with a Alfredo sauce, mine with chicken added, and hers with shrimp. No protein came with it so for 25 dollars with chicken and 29 dollars with shrimp I was expecting a great dish. My wife's pasta was sauced well while mine was very dry. Keep in mind it was the same dish. We asked for salt because they don't place salt on the table and while the waitress was happy to oblige, she never actually returned to the table and after 5 minutes of waiting my wife found a shaker at a serving counter. Staff was friendly and attentive with the one exception of the forgotten salt. The meal after 20 percent tip was close to 90 dollars for two with one appetizer, two pasta dishes with added protein and two soft drinks. Ambience could've been warmer/more inviting but had a mix of sports bar feel and cafe. The roll up doors were all open as the weather was nice, but that meant mosquitoes also and I got bit three times. If it were less expensive it would be worth another try but I don't think we'll return sadly. read more

The crust on the pizza is soft yet crispy and the marinara is very good. We went for lunch so I cannot comment on the pasta but we plan to be back! My son and I were in the area and decided to try this restaurant. It's locally owned and we love to support small businesses. And, it's hard to find good Italian food in Arizona. Upon arrival, it took awhile to greet us and be taken to our table. We considered leaving. But, my son was hungry and they came just in time. We also noticed right away how loud the restaurant is. I'm guessing this is due to the high ceilings. Not the best place for a date or to enjoy dinner if you'd like to have a conversation. The menu has a lot of options. I was happy to see a lot of non-pasta options because I try to avoid pasta due to some health issues. There's also a good variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. I thought it was nice another server grabbed our drinks until our waitress was able to come over. So, the waitress was nice, but....I had to ask twice for sweetener, she poured water in my son's glass that had Sprite in it and we asked for our dessert to go but it was brought out to us on a plate instead of a to go container. I was in the restroom or I would've asked for it to be taken back. It had ice cream on it already. My son is shy so he didn't say anything. I think the waitress noticed we didn't finish it even though we were sharing a fairly small portion so I told her we wanted it to go. She apologized. Since we asked for boxes and didn't finish our meal and I'd mentioned that I'd probably get a dessert to go at the beginning of the conversations, I thought she'd remember. The food was great! The bread is light and airy while just a bit crispy. The toppings on the bruschetta were fresh and flavorful. My son loved his calzone! The chocolate peanut butter cake was just okay. Definitely had more of a chocolate flavor. Since it was gluten free I wasn't expecting it to be as gooey; it was almost lava cake like. I appreciated that a manager checked on us, too. I'd go back...good food, okay service. We spent about $65 for a calzone, appetizer and dessert...a little pricey for a weeknight meal, but we have leftovers. read more
