Move over Marie Calendars! Okay, so I stopped by this place a couple of times so far. Item #1: a few days ago I bought a GF carrot cake loaf that was decent. I say decent only because my coworker also tried it with me and her review was that it was a little bland, but in my opinion it was good. Especially once I was able to take it home and heat it up before enjoying a slice. And I doubt she's been subjected to GF options as much as I have, so I think the cake is a winner. Item #2: The roast beef pot pie. It was so good I realized I had to write a review but I couldn't stop eating (hence the photo of 3/4 eaten pie...sorry about that ‍). The crust is very light and flaky, and the filling is tender and flavorful. The last time I had a pot pie was probably a decade ago during my college years...but let me tell you that these pot pies are nothing like the frozen fare you'll find in the grocery aisle. I would love to write a positive review - But! I am in Virginia, trying to order a meal for my daughter who is in Los Angeles, alone on Thanksgiving Day....I called the people there and was told I had to order through Grubhub or UberEats and there was nothing else they could do for me....Hell, I would have paid them $100.00 to deliver it, but Customer Service in US is long gone....I tried UberEats, but because I am in VA, my Uber App won't let me order from a Los Angeles restaurant....So I call Customer Service for Uber Eats, - after speaking to two CS reps who did not speak or understand English, and I was hung up on twice - the third time would be the charm....This time, though the CS agent could not speak or understand English, after telling me to do things and visit screens on my app that did not exist, she told me that she would 'escalate" my issue and I would hear from an UberEats expert by email within the hour....hours went by...no one contacted me...So I contacted a friend who lived in Los Angeles and they ordered the meal through their Uber Eats App....All was confirmed....Success! Except a half hour before the meal was scheduled to be delivered the charge on my friend's credit card was removed and the meal was not delivered.....I, still in VA started calling Crustees to see if they were open and of course I get a pre-recorded message, that won't let me leave a message, because their "messages are filled" W-T-F-! Both UberEats and this place failed....I will find somewhere else to order Peach cobbler in Los Angeles and these guys missed out....DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THESE UNPROFESSIONAL WANTABEES! Okay, if you're going to make a peach cobbler, it better taste like this one! My hubby, Simon has a friend that brings us these cobblers straight from my hometown of Los Angeles. Our first one was back in 2014 or 2015. We had the peach cobbler with its light and crumbly double crust, loaded with delicate balance of peaches and spice. This is a treat that hits the sweet tooth right on the money. I also like the mini pie portion just large enough to get 2-3 servings or in a shareable size. Just ordered the chicken pot pie, beef stew pot pie, gumbo and mixed berry cobbler. All were fresh, well seasoned and distinguishable. The winner was the chicken pot pie. It was creamy with a flaky yet moist crust that made me wish this was a cold winter evening in January. The berries in the cobbler were sweet and not overcooked-- burst in your mouth fresh. The beef in the pot pie was soft and in bite size chunks --not too big but also not too small. The gumbo isn't overdone. It's a flavorful soup with seafood and sausage. Got the pecan topped sweet potato pie for thanksgiving and it was divine! Among the various pumpkin and derby pies we had at our 20 person dinner that were homemade and from other bakeries, Crustees' sweet potato pie stole the show. It was the perfect texture with the best marbelized crunch on top. This will definitely be my go to present for holiday parties, housewarmings and other events going forward.
