We had a few hours to kill in Savannah and stopped in the parlor. The building and the inside are a fun nod to Savannah history. The hostess was super sweet and we were seated pretty quickly. We started with fried green tomatoes which could have been a meal, they were so good and the horseradish cream sauce was super yummy. The flounder Ruben was tasty and HUGE! The bleu chips were delightfully different. Kids menu was perfect and the portions were really big, our kiddos could have split. Our waiter was cheerful and helpful. Wow. We stumbled upon this place for dinner on St. Patrick's Day. This was such a find! We didn't actually get beer, but their menu is extensive! We started with 6 of the Greek wings. Oh my gosh they were divine. Like one of the best things I've eaten. I got a Caesar salad for dinner and added grilled shrimp. It was perfect and hit the spot. My hubby got the meatloaf burger with chips. You can see in the photo how HUGE it was!! It was good, and he definitely enjoyed it. We split the peach cobbler for dessert. Absolutely amazing. Stopped in to try the local brews! They have a nice long local draft list, plenty of bottled beer and a bunch of wine!! I really liked their offerings from Service Brewing co, Southbound and Monday Night. All 3 of these local breweries are delicious! Hop'lin from Southbound was as my favorite. I love that Crystal's will pour you a $3 shorty so you can try a bunch of brews. As for food, I got the fried green tomatoes to start. They were huge, came with 5 big slices and a delicious dipping sauce. I really recommend getting these. For my entree, I got the pimento pig sandwich and it was delicious. I wish it had come with BBQ sauce though to dip in. The pimento cheese has great flavor and texture and isn't spicy. The pork was very tender and tasty. I also got the sweet potato fries which were good. I would have liked more salt on them. Boyfriend got the Au poivre Burger and he loved it!! We came down to Savannah for a weekend getaway and decided to try the Crystal Beer Parlor for a late lunch. The directions on the gps were kinda weird, but we finally found it. Parking seemed to be street only and we had to pay for the space, but it wasn't much. Maybe $2. Now the entrance was also kind of weird. We had to walk all the way around back through this tent to get to the hostess station. There was no hostess there when we entered so we sat and waited, observing the decor. Very rustic and homey feeling. Like an upper scale Cracker Barrel. Finally the hostess came and sat us at a booth with menus. Our server, Sabrina, came up soon after. She was excellent! She wore a mask the entire time and offered explanations for any questions we had about the menu. We decided to get the bison burger and the deviled crab cakes. The only reason I took one star off is because they put way too much mayonnaise on the burger and my husband specifically requested no mayo. Because he hates it. I don't mind mayo, but it was way too much on the burger. But it was cooked to perfection, and the crab cakes were simply divine! There is a warning when you order the crab cakes that some shell may be inside and there was. I didn't mind because that's how you know it's real crab. Now the star of the meal was the fried pound cake. I've never tasted anything like this. It's fluffy and crispy and comes with ice cream and whipped cream and it's truly heaven on a plate. It came with caramel sauce and I honestly had to stop myself from licking it all up. We didn't get any beer or liquor because we were going to an event later, but the bar looked amazing, and the drink list was very extensive. I'm coming back again for more of that pound cake asap. I was looking for a good burger and CBP fit the bill. I'm not knowledgeable on beer (I'm sure you are shocked as IPAs are all the rage right?) but they had a lot of beer on tap and I saw different shades of ale from light to dark being delivered to thirsty customers left and right. Not to be out done by the beer, they also had a reasonably extensive bourbon list. I was there for lunch, so my bourbon ordering was kept to a minimum. I ordered the fried green tomatoes and the standard cheese burger. The fried green tomatoes were excellent and my pro tip for a CBP burger is to save a couple of the FGTs and put them on the burger. Consider it an "off menu" burger. It was awesome and the fries were good to boot! You'll note from the photos they still use Heinz in the glass bottle - known for being the only ketchup Jesus and the disciples used on their fries. Enjoy! My Standardized Yelp Ratings 5 stars - This is for a place that I see as one of the best at what they do (steaks, sandwiches, BBQ, seafood, etc). 5s are for places I've been several times (typically) at least and never had an "off" experience. The food quality, service, price and atmosphere are all going to meet or exceed expectations. 4 stars - This is for a place that is good, I would drive a little out of the way to go, and the food and service is good, but maybe not amazing. Also for me, this could also be a great place that serves Pepsi products - automatic 1 star loss - bad management decision. 3 stars - This is for a place that I view as standard. Nothing special, nothing lousy, not a place you'd avoid like the plague, but a place that is not one you really look forward to either. 2 stars - This is for a place that had something go wrong or something perpetually wrong. The food and or service is likely consistently suspect here (they probably serve Pepsi too). 1 star - I can't see wasting time writing a review on a place that gets a 1 star. Crystal Beer Parlor was on-par with what everyone said it would be. Locals and tourists alike love: the fried green tomatoes, crabs stew, and burger. We got all three and everything was solid and comforting. This is the oldest operating resto in Savannah. Off the beaten path find street parking, stay near the lit areas if you can. The wait for this spot even at 5:30pm on a Friday was 30-1 hour which was SHOCKING to us given how huge the restaurant is. But in true Cindy nature we stocked a couple at the bar and snagged their spot within minutes, ordered at the bar and was finished before even one couple we stood next to in the front had been sat. Why the people won't eat at the bar still baffles me. Pro tip: the bar is huge, scope out a spot, hit up the bartenders for local suggestions on a nice brew. Take in the history. read more

We have recently moved to the area and have been told by quite a few people that we must try this place, that it is where the locals go and not as touristy plus really neat atmosphere and good food.. It's right at the end of Jones Street which is such a beautiful walk, and then we saw it on the corner and immediately felt like it was an historic place. There was a short wait so we ordered cocktails which were absolutely delicious and well crafted. We watched a server hustling around and commented that we hoped that we got her, and we did. Her name is Morgan and she took great care of us and made our experience so much better. The fried shrimp was very tender and lightly breaded, delectable. Pretty great beer menu for starters! Had the sweet chili duck wings for an appetizer which were pretty great. This may be a special item though, not sure if they have it all the time. Took my daughters fiance here for his birthday. We ordered fried green tomatoes and giant pretzel for appetizer. The tomatoes were excellent and light. The pretzel was amazing. For dinner my daughter ordered shrimp salad sandwich. Her fiancé ordered turkey rueben, my wife ordered country fried steak, and i ordered the greek lamb burger. The burger was great and i smashed it. I tasted the country fried steak and it was good. No complaints from the kiddos as they really enjoyed theirs. Just arrived in town, got settled and ordered a to go order. Spoke to Eddie on the phone and the. Met him in person. The order was a GIANT PRETZEL, DOUBLE DECKER CLUB and THE CLASSIC CRYSTAL BURGER. Both sandwiched came with French fries. The burger was not only cooked perfectly to order but was absolutely amazing, juicy and came with fresh toppings (onion, lettuce, pickles). The club was loaded with what I believe was fresh roasted turkey slices, crispy thick bacon, toasted perfectly bread. Each bite got better as it went. The lettuce was crispy and flavorful and the tomatoes were juicy. Now for the pretzel. When they say GIANT... it was the size of a steering wheel. It was warm, soft on the inside and salted perfectly. I have had this place on my radar for a while. Seating was a little unorganized. We came in one door and winded our way to an outdoor entrance and eating area. We were told it was at least a 1/2 hour wait for an inside table. The temp was in the 50's so we opted for the wait and went to the gift shop. There was a huge group of creative gifts, scarves, carvings. The meal was very good. The Crystal Beer Burger was a little flat and probably pre- formed. It was good. The Gawgi Nacho's were excellent. The waitress was very attentive and recommended a Wheat Beer South Bound Scotters Britt. Wow! Either I was really thirsty or this beer was the best think since sliced bread. It was absolutely excellent. The decor of the restaurant was a collection of old framed stories and pictures. A long bar dominated the space but there were smaller rooms pff of the bar. The music was the best collection of Classic Rock ever. People were singing along on a Tuesday afternoon. I will return to this place for a spirited meal experience. read more
